Two Spirits Native American Culture
Culture is a complex concept that incorporates society's beliefs, values, arts, attitudes and more.
People like to be able to categorize animals, objects and unfortunately people. This idea of
categorizing people has been around all throughout history. Whether it be race, religion, politics, or
gender, people like categorization. Ideas that stray from tradition and challenge cultural norms lead
to discrimination and ignorance. For example, in the late 1800s and early 1900s women did not have
the same rights as their male counterparts, and women continue to struggle to receive full equality,
the wage gap. Transgender or "Two Spirited" is when a person's personal identity and gender does
not correspond with their birth sex. The movie "Two Spirits" ... Show more content on

It's really unfortunate our culture doesn't view transgender people the same as the Navajo tribe.
Transgender people and families of trans people have to cope with discrimination and hate daily.
The process of coming out is a lot different for transgender than coming out as gay. The coming out
process is very difficult and emotional for families. Going from having a daughter to a son or a son
to a daughter is a challenging, emotional process for families. Parents and families have to accept
new pronouns and name changes. That is if the family is understanding and accepting of having a
transgender son or daughter, unfortunately some parents are unaccepting. When parents don't want
anything to do with their child, the transgender person has no immediate support system. The child
has to cope with all the physical, mental, and emotional trials on their own. Not only does the child
have to deal with discrimination from society, they have to deal with discrimination from their own
parents, who are supposed to love them. Forty–one percent of people in the transgender community
have tried to commit suicide. Like the documentary "Two Spirits" said, everyone has a purpose, we
should not discriminate against innocent transgender children or adults, or anyone for that

An Informative Essay About Halloween
Halloween
When you hear the word Halloween you often think about candy, costumes, and children having
fun; but how much do we know about the holiday itself? Maybe everybody should know what the
origin of Halloween has. The first paragraph deals with how this celebration started. The "trick or
treat" part. Why is this the most important part of the of this celebration. How will this contribute to
the pagan Halloween origins? Why is this part of the Halloween celebration? Could this be also part
for the economy? Costumes! Halloweens is also known for its dark color for clothing and part for
scaring away people. Just how much do we know about them? This celebration we should no longer
be considered a holiday. The origin of Halloween where did this international holiday come from.
The word Halloween comes from a shortening of All Hallows' Evening also known as Hallowe'en or

The Celts wore frightening masks so that evil spirits would mistakenly think the wearers were spirits
and would leave them alone. The church gradually came up with using customs with the feasts of
All Souls and All Saints. Later, celebrants went from house to house wearing costumes of saints,
angels, and devils. Many civilians fear that this tradition might be mistakenly a not so innocent
tradition. Others say it is a way of contacting evil spirits such as demons, and the devil. As much as
this celebration consist it should not be a worldwide celebration. Many religious rituals, economy

American Exceptionalism
American Exceptionalism is defined in literature as Americans' deprecation of power politics and
old–fashioned diplomacy, mistrust of powerful standing armies and entangling peacetime
commitments, their supposedly moralistic judgements about other people's domestic systems, and
belief that liberal values transfer readily to foreign affairs. The reason for American Exceptionalism
could be chased back to American Culture and American Spirit. Even though the United States
system is not subject to the same contradictions and influences as other countries. The belief in
American superiority finds its foundation in some of their culture's basic religious and cultural
constructs. And it's being confirmed that the mental and moral superiority of Americans being
actively reiterated by American culture to the American public via movies, television and political
rhetoric. The American Spirit is being realized for all Americans are told in media that only they
know how the world really works, and only they know how it should be worked. So the American
Exceptionlism is the result of American culture and spirit.
Harold Koh and Ted Bromund are keeping different opinions based on the influence of American
Exceptionlism. It is a debate between "pure" virtues and "both good and bad". In my opinion,
American Exceptionalism has both good and bad sides and we should try to reduce the double
standards by following better angles of national nature.

Mental Health America Research Paper
Since 1949, Mental Health America and its affiliates have celebrated Mental Health Month in May.
In 2016, the theme for Mental Health Month is – "Life with a Mental Illness". Therefore, Mental
Health America is calling on individuals to share their stories about what life with a mental illness
feels like, for them. So, our ministry is also taking action to share this message and to provide you
with a platform to share your mental health stories. So, here are a few ideas to get us started. Of
course, feel free to share your stories and continue this discussion. According to the Nedley Health
Foundation (2016), about 26% of Americans have some serious mental health condition. If those

Be physically active– Yes, go out and get some exercise. Again, God made the body to release
certain hormones during exercise and just by taking those steps, or going for a swim, one's mind and
body can be refreshed and renewed. Again, in the Bible, several verses address exercise from both
the spiritual and physical perspectives. For instance, in 1 Corinthians 9: 24–27, we are asked, do you
not know that in a race all the runners run, but only one receives the prize? So run that you may
obtain it. Every athlete exercises self–control in all things. They do it to receive a perishable wreath,
but we an imperishable. So I do not run aimlessly; I do not box as one beating the air. But I
discipline my body and keep it under control, lest after preaching to others I myself should be
disqualified. So, just move and God will do the rest. The healing process is started when we dare to
go out in the fresh air and sun and move our bodies. In summary, while mental health conditions are
plaguing Americans, if we meditate on God's word, confess our sins and pray for one another, eat
well, and exercise, we can renew our minds and be healthy in body, mind, soul, and spirit. We hope
that all our readers had a wonderful mental health month. Please give us a call at 404–500–9204 to

Narrative What Are Ghosts Essay
In the middle of the night I was sound asleep, until I got this weird sensation throughout my mind
that made me feel like I was being watched and awoke. When I sat up I noticed an average–looking
man standing in the darkness of my bedroom. Frightened, I grabbed my blanket, moved closer to the
wall, and followed the man with my wide–open eyes. Eventually, he made his way into my half–
open closet door. I ran to turn the light on faster than a wimpy kid who punched the tough guy in
school. Unlike most people would, I went straight to the closet door; when I opened the door, I
found nothing. It's easy to assume that I didn't get too much sleep that night. I am not positive what
happened during that mind–puzzling night, but I think the man ... Show more content on

There are many factors that contribute to the transformation of a spirit: whether or not one did good
deeds, the amount of spiritual practice, destiny, death cause, funeral, spiritual rituals, self–esteem,
have desires that weren't fulfilled, negative thoughts, anger, harmed people during lifetime, or
doesn't have spiritual thoughts or practices (What Are Ghosts). Occasionally, the ghost will attach to
a person, place or object.
Some ghosts are rather weak and highly dependent on the place or person they are attached to. They
are sometimes called earthbound spirits. Some other ghosts have gained so much energy that they
can move around and even make objects move with their energy. These are called poltergeists.
(What to Do)
Poltergeists are one kind of ghost that one would not enjoy to have in their company. "Very strong
poltergeists have a limited ability to slam doors or make objects fall on your head" (What to Do).
"They derive pleasure out of exerting control over and tormenting humans and other subtle–bodies"
(What Are Ghosts). Ghosts take the energy from their victim's breath and use the breath to provide
the them with energy. Ghosts that had addictions to chemicals, such as addictive drugs and alcohol,
will feed off of humans with a similar addiction (Spiritual Compass). Spirits "can feed off of your
fear" (Spiritual Compass). "Emotionally they can scare you, but only if you are afraid of them"
(What to Do). The fear is what

Everyone Defines Happiness Differently, Everyone Enjoys
Everyone defines happiness differently, everyone enjoys different things but, we know happiness
when we experience it. The phrase is used to describe a variety of positive feelings, including
fulfillment, gratification, joy and appreciation. Happiness comes when we are pleased and
contented. Happiness is a feeling of contentment that life is just as it should be. The right happiness,
enlightenment, comes when you have all of your needs satisfied, because when we let ourselves be
happy, it becomes easier said than done. According to Thomas Moore, enchantment is an
ascendancy of the soul, a condition that allows us to connect, for the most part, lovingly and
intimately, with the world we inhabit and the people who make up our families and ... Show more

"The Soul is mortal meaning that it dies, it is one's inner self what pleases it is it needs to stay
lively" (148). "A relationship to disenchantment could be destroying a strip of an establishment such
as shopping malls and Grocery stores" (146). Thomas Moore gives several examples of Re–
enchantment that he thinks are disenchanting. You do not have to look far for ruins. Ruins are
enchanting, the ruins that he calls enchanting are not really enchanting but instead disenchanting
because the functions of these things once fulfilled has gone off likes a bird flying away from the
nest. "We are left with objects that have a hollowness that we can fill with our own wonder and
fantasy" (86). Moore provides examples throughout his book which supports his theories of
everyday life. I credit Moore and his theory of enchantment in the world, which can and does differ
from other human resources. You are surrounded by "real," individual things not imitated. When you
appreciate the individual surroundings that are an enchantment, you're honoring the exact qualities
that make a place special. "We need Physical images to embody the spirit that has polluted towns
and wilderness, because enchantment can't be achieved into the abstract" (146). By connecting with
other places far away with different ethics, we can take enchantment home with you. An example of
this would be sharing personal interests and enjoying similar music to conjure up the

African Americans Spread The Spirit Of Freedom
Throughout history, Americans have sought to spread the spirit of equality, which is believed to be
the realization of true freedom. Before establishing this freedom, every American had only one
question stuck in their head: What is freedom? Our country received it in the year of 1776 from the
British through a series of difficulties and wars. African Americans defined it as an escape from
slavery, while immigrants defined it as their acceptance into a new society. More yet, women of the
women's suffrage defined their freedom as their recognition into society and for their rights to be
equal to that of every other man. These different perceptions of cultures/groups in America tied
together to form an American view of freedom. Freedom is ... Show more content on

The American Identity, one that defines us all, would therefore be our courage and devotion among
all other emotions to stand up for our rights, independence, and our freedom. The War of 1812
signified a military conflict between the USA and the United Kingdom of Great Britain. It's known
for many things, but the most memorable event in this period was the writing of the Star Spangled
Banner by Francis Scott Key. His devotion to his country and inspiration to do anything for freedom
led him to write this song, which eventually became our national anthem. He once said, "It seemed
as though mother earth had opened and was vomiting shot and shell in a sheet of fire and
brimstone." (Francis Scott Key) The feeling that came across Scott's being was a realization of true
freedom. Both sides of the war had suffered losses, but America gained an ability to sail and trade
freely. Freedom shed light once again. Probably the most re–known civil rights movement was the
struggle for former slaves to attain freedom. Among these slaves was one who not only freed
herself, but also freed a numerous amount of other slaves that she encountered. This woman is
known to us all as Harriet Tubman, but was known by the slaves as a "saint" who helped them get
their freedom. As said by Richard in Black Boy, "My life as a Negro in America had led me to
feel...that the problem of humanity was more important than bread, more important than physical
living itself; for I felt that without a common

Romanticism In The Awakening
Romanticism can be characterized by its emphasis on emotion and individualism as well as
glorification of all the past and nature. There was a strong recourse to historical and natural
inevitability, a Zeitgeist, in the representation of its ideas. That there is this spirit that All people aim
for freedom and most fall short to reach their ultimate goal of total freedom. I will argue that Edna
Pontellier and Hegel are trying to find freedom during their era, but are unable to reach it. In "The
Awakening," by Kate Chopin, we find our main character Edna who has this longing for freedom
and no matter what she tries she feels trapped in a society that she feels intrudes on her freedom.
During this time in age, Edna is expected to perform her domestic duties and care for the health and
happiness of her family. In this time of the Zeitgeist, victorian women were prevented from seeking
the satisfaction of their own wants and needs. During Edna's gradual awakening, she discovers her
own identity and acknowledges her emotions and desires actually are. The water symbolizes
freedom, escape, independence. Edna's awakening truly begins in the water, because this is where
she learned how to swim. This was something she has always previously been afraid of and after
this incident, her mind begins to turn with new possibilities of independence and the future. "As she
swam, she seemed to be reaching out for the unlimited in which to lose herself (Chopin, p. 32)."

Faith Community Nursing Essay
"Disease of the soul are more dangerous and more numerous than those of the body"–Cicero. Wow
was my first though after reading this quote. It spoke to me on so many levels. From my
understanding, I believe it's saying healing is not only for the body, but for the soul as well; not
treating the soul is way worst then not treating the body. The body is the physical which is seen with
the naked eye while the soul is the inner most part of the body which is unseen and in most cases is
left untreated. In my opinion healing the body is just as important as healing the soul. When I

Analysis Of ' I Descended ' By William Shakespeare
Throughout the history of literature, classic tales have been adapted and rewritten by various
authors. As a result, retellings are only a natural occurrence in literature and can oftentimes convey
the basic story in new and exciting ways. On the other hand, retellings can also miss the mark,
failing to produce a story that can triumphantly stand on its own as a work of art. An example of this
is Robin Talley's As I Descended, a modern telling of William Shakespeare's Macbeth adapted to fall
within the genre of young adult literature. Without a doubt, Robin Talley's As I Descended follows
the basic plot of Macbeth–the rise and fall of an ambitious individual who resorts to evil deeds in
order to obtain prestige that is "predestined" to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
First, Maria describes a weird mirror on her grandparent's back porch that she would stare at as a
child. But, as stated by the narrator, "She never saw anything except her own reflection" (Talley 14).
While Maria believes that the mirror had some sort of paranormal quality, there is no real experience
to back up this claim–it was only a feeling that Maria had. On the other hand, further on in the
novel, it is described that Maria once saw a little boy, who said her name, sitting at the foot of her
bed. Considering the fact that these two mediocre examples are supposed to prove Maria's seasoned
past with spirits, it is only logical for readers to feel deceived. Talley went out of her way to declare
that Maria had a history with the supernatural in the first chapter of the novel, and even repeated this
fact several times throughout the story. However, she failed to effectively elaborate upon this,
instead providing two examples that were nothing short of unfulfilling. As a result, readers start the
novel wanting to know more about Maria's past, but are only met with an incomplete backstory,
leaving a feeling of frustration after the novel is finished. In connection to Maria's incomplete
backstory, Talley's second false step was the introduction of a supernatural being known as La
Llorona. Specifically, readers are introduced to two very differing accounts of this spirit. According
to Maria's nanny,

Racial Slur : Native Americans And It 's A Racial Spirit...
Over the years there has been many controversy over the topic of the redskins name change.
Apprehension from both sides of the name change is rising up and everyone is getting involved. The
question everybody is waiting for is if team manager Dan Snyder will crack under the pressure to
change the name or will stay with his statement of "Well never change the name". People of the side
to change the name say the main issue with the name is it 's very derogatory to the native americans
and it 's a racial slur. They find it very repugnant and are not going to stop this war until the redskins
change it. On the other hand, People of the side who wants to keep the name say the name is not
racist or isn 't intended to be . That its a name that represents America 's history and it captures the
spirit of the Washington redskins team, fans and nation. My claim is that the name is very disturbing
and is indeed a racial slur. Native americans don 't deserve this injustice. The reason why i say this is
because as a African american kid in america have faced multiple times where I 've been called very
negatory racial slurs and treated different based on the color of my skin and I was always aversion to
these names.Knowing i 've faced the struggles of racism I would loathe if someone else had to go

How Spirit Airlines With American Airlines Essay
WHY I CHOSE THIS COMPANY
Founded in 1964, Spirit Airlines actually began operations in the trucking industry under the name
"Clippert Trucking Company," based in Michigan. In subsequent years the firm encountered many
changes in name, headquarters, as well as shifted into different industries entirely. In 1983, the
company branched out into the charter tour operating sector, as "Charter One." Particularly, they
provided tours to entertainment destinations such as Las Vegas, Atlantic City, and the islands to the
southeast of Florida known as The Bahamas.
Almost three decades late in 1992, the company officially changed its name to the ultra–low cost
passenger carrier company we all know today as Spirit Airlines, which is based in Fort Lauderdale–
Hollywood International Airport, under CEO Ben Baldanza. These series of changes in industry, in
combination with the fact that I am an avid "Spirit flyer," definitely sparked my interest in further
investigating the financial stance of the company.
PURPOSE
The purpose of this study is to compare Spirit Airlines with American Airlines using the financial
ratios of liquidity, activity, debt, profitability and the market, and to derive some concrete
conclusions about the financial nature of Spirit Airlines. According to Spirit Airlines (2015)

which is outstanding. Thus, Spirit Airlines will be used as a benchmark in terms of comparing

among the men of Plains Indians tribes where warfare was an almost sacred preoccupation and
where the male role placed the high emphasis on demonstration of pride, bravery, and daring

Spirits: From Miracle Medicine To The American Revolution
Spirits
From miracle medicine to The American Revolution, this drink has made an appearance in many
events throughout history. Old–World inhabitants consumed spirits back then just how modern day
Americans consume coffee. As Tom Standage states in his novel A History of the World in 6 Glasses
spirits "helped to shape the modern world by helping the inhabitants of the Old World to establish
themselves as the rulers of the New World". Spirits had the most impact on the world as it strongly
influenced multiple countries in the past including the United States, England, and medieval Spain.

Theme Of Language Devices In The Joy Luck Club
In The Joy Luck Club, language devices such as figurative language, diction, sentence structure, and
significant detail are used to characterize the different characters in the book. These language
devices capture the characters' emotions, personality, qualities of mind, and goals. Amy Tan uses a
variety of language devices to characterize Ying–ying's emotions of sorrow, disconnection, shame,
love, her passive, careless personality, and her quality of mind of determination.
The use of language devices creates Ying–ying's emotions of sorrow and her passive personality and
quality of mind. Throughout the novel, Ying–ying mentions that her daughter Lena and she are
ghosts. The ghost becomes a symbol of passivity, a symbol of not taking action to stop bad things
from happening. The ghost symbol creates Ying–ying's voice by representing her passive personality
and quality of mind. Additionally, the author uses significant pieces of detail. In "The Moon Lady,"
Ying–ying gets lost. She observes her shadow and describes it, "It was shorter this time, shrunken
and wild–looking. We ran together over to some bushes along a walkway and hid" (80). This piece
of detail shows a personality shift in Ying–ying. It describes the changes in Ying–ying's shadow
which represents the change of her restless personality to a passive and silent one. Another language
device used is diction. When introducing "The Moon Lady," Ying–ying says, "And I want to tell her
this: We are lost, she and I, unseen and not seen, unheard and not hearing, unknown by others" (64).
The words "unseen," "unheard," and "unknown" are related to one another at a certain level, and
they create a general picture of Ying–ying's emotion. Ying–ying feels anguish for not doing anything
in her whole life and letting herself become a ghost. The diction also reveals Ying–ying's anguish for
letting her daughter become a ghost like herself.
Language devices capture Ying–ying's emotions of disconnection and her careless personality.
Ying–ying starts to talk about her daughter Lena and the effect her passive personality has on her.
Ying–ying explains how she lived in America, accepting everything that came her way and how she
accepted Lena's American ways. She says,

In a time when technology is the focal point of attraction, people spend more time sitting in front of
a screen than getting out and being active. Video games used to be simply a game, movies used to be
a treat, and phones were only used for talking. Now, these things are considered hobbies! As a
result, more and more people sit around with technology instead of pursuing healthier activities. In
order to fight the increased lack of physical activity of today's society, many schools, employers, and
organizations have invested time and money into programs directed at getting people up and active.
Countless programs and hobbies have emerged over the years to capitalize on this active movement,

After Reformation period, the allegorical biblical interpretation was criticized and rejected by
contemporary biblical interpretation theory, and a lot of Christian evangelical churches. However, as
a long tradition stems from the early church, allegorical interpretation has never been disappeared;
on the contrary, it was one the most important exegesis tradition in the history of Chinese Protestant

Jia Yuming is one of the representative figures. The aim of this paper is to present the characteristic
of Jia Yuming` s allegorical biblical interpretation, and to explore the contribution of his exegesis in
Sino–Christian theology. Jia` s allegorical biblical interpretation was influenced by several
theological thoughts. Graduated from Presbyterian seminary, he accepted reformed theology, and
then he was influenced by pietistic theology and Charismatic movement, turned to allegorical
exegesis. In this paper, I will take Jia` s interpretation of "Exodus" and "Song of Solomon" as
examples to analyze its characteristics. The book of Exodus consists of two genres, narratives and
laws, which were interpreted by Jia` s allegorical method. The "Song of Songs" is considered to be
the most obscure book to interpret in the Bible, and is often interpreted as an allegory.

The Truth About Ghosts And Demons Essay
"Oren Peli once said, 'The thing I find really scary about ghosts and demons is tat ylu don't really
know what they are or where they are. They're not very well understood. You don't know what they
want from you. So it's the kind of thing you don't even know how to defend yourself against.
Anything that's unknown and mysterious is very scary.'" Controversial topics range from global
tragedies to the newest video game. One that has lived for centuries, is whether or not the
supernatural and paranormal exist. Like every discussion, there are believers, and there are skeptics.
Scientists tend to be the skeptics, while those with an adventurous mind tend to be those who
believe that some other–world being exist. Scientists use experimentation to give explanations as to
why someone would have a paranormal experience, and most have been successful in what they
were proving, but those who are believers also give excellent points to why their experiences have
no scientific proof with them making it hard to choose a side. Since the dawn of time, there were
ghosts, and every person has their own belief, but many might not know for sure because of the
variety of explanations. French from the University of London calls belief in ghosts a
"misinterpretation of natural phenomena" (French, October 2014, para 1). He explains that from a
psychological perspective, it is almost impossible to believe in such an idea. Modern neuroscience

American Spirits Were Exceptionally High At The End Of The...
American spirits were exceptionally high at the end of the War of 1812 which brought about a defeat
of the British once again. In the years that followed the War, a sense of national unity materialized
throughout the country as a One Party System grew out of James Monroe's presidency with the
disappearance of the Federalists. The Columbian Centinel proclaimed that this time period after the
War of 1812 was an "Era of Good Feelings", a phrase applied to Monroe's presidency ever since.
But contradictory to this label, this time period in American history was actually turbulent, for
sectionalism propagated and a nationwide panic heightened. Therefore, with emerging sectionalism

During his presidency, Monroe supported the American System in which the government supported
economic growth and protective measures for domestic manufacturers from foreign competition.
Unfortunately, not everyone favored the American System. In the South especially, Southerners
opposed such a protective tariff for it only supported Northern manufactures, while hurting the
Southern economy at the same time. The South, primarily agricultural with a large exporting
economy, had to import all of its goods having to pay up to ⅓ it's price in tax in order to comply
with the American System. John Randolph, a Southerner, expressed his grievances to Congress
hoping to alleviate the struggles of the South by saying, "no one interest in the country should be
sacrificed by the management of taxation to another... the agriculturalists bear the whole front of the
war and taxation" (Document A). In saying this Randolph not only questioned Congress 's intentions
of collecting revenue and favoring the North, but also its job to regulate commerce, not taxes. The
American System clearly drove a wedge between Northern and Southern interests.
The institution of chartering a Second National Bank also stimulated many controversies. Once
again, the Bank, an element of the American System created to strengthen national currency, placed
commercial interests of the North over farmers and agriculturalists of the South. In the

Democracy In J. Allen Smith's The Spirit Of American...
Discussion Democracy flourished in America where it had previously floundered in Europe. As
early as 1907, J. Allen Smith attributed this to the fact that the colonists were "more active,
enterprising, and dissatisfied" than the typical Englishman, in his work The Spirit of American
Government,. He noted that the Revolutionary War was not sparked by colonists hating the
monarchical system, but by the negative relationship between England and its newest colony. This
attitude, coupled with an active revolution, created the perfect outlet for democratic theory to be
expressed and enacted (Smith, 1907; Thoman, n.d.). In creating an independent nation, the founding
fathers looked to various forms of government, both ancient and modern, for inspiration.

Ghosts And Spirits By Elisabeth Kubler-Ross
Unfinished Business:
Ghosts and Spirits
The average person may think of ghosts and spirits as something disguised in a white sheet with
holes for eyes, a ragged figure dragging chains and moaning. In addition, something floating
through the air and that can enter and exit rooms without the need to open doors. This is an example
of the way ghosts and spirits are usually described in stories or depicted in movies. It has been said
that ghosts and spirits are souls that cannot pass into the next world or dimension once they have
died on earth. Although, truth be told that all ghosts and spirits have a purpose to be able to travel
through two different worlds, life and afterlife. Ghosts and spirits proves to be a dominant symbol in

It is also not uncommon to meet former family at the time of death that delivers help to the afterlife.
All of these guides will normally always create a successful transition in and out of the world.
Pursuing this further, Elisabeth Kubler–Ross describes that "it is important to know that every single
human being, from the moment of birth until the moment when they make the transition and end this
physical existence, is in the presence of guides or guardian angels that will give you aid to the
transition from life after death". Basically, the psychopomp is another way to help the spirits get
through to the other side (animals, friends, former family and guardian angels). The psychopomp is
a person that is born with this talent in guiding with the transitions. It is also a skill that can be leant,
the primary function is not to reconnect the living with the dead, but to help the spirits cross over.
Angels. Guardian angels. Spirit guides.
Angels, Guardian angels and spirit guides are really the "good type" of ghosts, althoughthey fit more
in the description of a spirit. In the Hebrew Bible and the New Testament, angels are known as
God's messengers. Common Knowledge of angels also knows that they are sent by God to watch
over the human race, to guard and protect from danger, as well as to give humans signs to excel in

We Choose To Go To The American Spirit Speech Summary
John F. Kennedy's Passionate Appeal to the American Spirit: "We Choose to Go to the Moon" On
September 12, 1962, John F. Kennedy gave a rhetorically sound speech at Rice University in
Houston, Texas with the intent to rally American support for his space exploration proposition.
Kennedy had proposed his plan to congress a couple months before and this speech was his call to
the American people to stand behind him. While the speech is remembered for its famous line, "We
choose to go to the moon," it was a carefully constructed piece of rhetoric. Kennedy's immediate
audience extends beyond the people that were in Rice Stadium that day. His message was intended

Kennedy utilizes a form of the known–new contract towards the beginning of his speech to show the
audience where they stand in reference to history while creating a sense of urgency. In his approach
to the known–new contract, Kennedy conveys where America has been and where America is going.
Kennedy first conveys America's scientific position by stating, "Despite the striking fact that most of
the scientists that the world has ever known are alive and working today... the unanswered and the
unfinished still far outstrip our collective comprehension." While the first sentence could have been
worded better to express that there are more scientists active than ever before, this section of the
speech conveys that America has many unanswered questions, but it also has the scientific
manpower to answer these questions in order to make space travel a reality. As Kennedy progresses,
he condenses human history into a 50–year timespan with an emphasis on scientific advancements
in order to give the audience perspective by establishing where humankind has been. As he goes

The booked started off talking about how birthing worked in Laos. In Laos their home floors were
made of dirt. The mother would slightly deliver their baby making sure not to let the baby touch the
floor. The father would take the placenta and bury it. For a girl it would have been buried under the
parents' bed and for a male it would be buried in an honorable place so he could watch over the
household. This was important to do because once they died they believed their spirit would return
to get this jacket and fight a long journey until they found their ancestors. Back in Laos they would
rely on the shaman if something went wrong during their pregnancy. The women would also watch
that they were eating, making sure to pay attention to their cravings. This was some of the thing they
did to prevent the malevolent spirit (dab). Once the baby is born they would have a ceremony to

These are said to get a high reading of electromagnetic frequencies whenever a spirit is present. A
lot of people think the readings are fabricated, from the EMF detector having a malfunction and
short circuiting from a wiring problem, but there is an explanation behind the readings. Einstein had
a theory that energy can be converted into matter and matter into energy ("Six Types of Hauntings").
Because people are made up of matter, on a level it is believed that we in a way also exist as energy
and this energy surrounds us while we live. This energy that surrounds us is sometimes known as an
aura. It surrounds us and projects our thoughts and feelings around us. When we die, people are said
to lose six ounces instantly. Some people believe that the reason we instantly become lighter is
because when we die the aura that constantly surrounds our bodies, leaves our bodies ("Six Types of
Hauntings"). Although many people doubt the existence of auras, it explains the weight loss at death
and the reason why ghosts can be picked up by EMF meters. Spirits tend to be peaceful, but slightly
sorrowful , mourning a life that has passed them. The reasons why a spirit may stay around is
because it felt incomplete with it's previous life and still believes that it has a purpose to serve

The Split Horn Life Of A Hmong Culture Summary
In this documentary, The Split Horn Life of a Hmong Shaman in America focuses on the religious
containment of the Hmong people. Their rich history goes back to the time in a village in North East
Asia where they believed that the Shaman were the great healers for the sick. The Hmong were
living a peaceful life until the Vietnam war broke out and destroyed their village. Many of the
Hmong villagers fled their beloved homeland in order to seek refuge form the war. Many were
fortunate enough to find shelter in Thailand where they stayed for the majority of the conflict. Some
were even lucky enough to get a sponsorship to America. As they slowly came to America the
Hmong were worried that they might lose their religious roots to the American customs.
Some of the Hmong people had to learn English and how to read and write. In their village, they
never had to learn how to read or write because of their background and their religion. The Hmong
people feel that their culture and values still play a major role in their daily lives. Many Hmong
communities rely on the shamans for religious and spiritual support. Without the shamans, the
Hmong culture would be incomplete and slowly diminish.
The Hmong's believe in shamans. Shamans are religious specialists commonly found in small–scale
egalitarian societies. They are believed to have the power to contact powerful cosmic beings directly
on behalf of others, sometimes by traveling to the cosmic realm to communicate with them.

Does Ghost Exist in Real Life? (Argumentative Essays)
Does ghost exist in real life? It has been a popular question been ask for few decades. Some people
encounter the supernatural phenomena, some not. So there are people who believe and people who
disbelieves. Therefore, here are some introduction of what ghost really is, where we can find their
existence, how can we feel their presence and does science proof the existence of ghost. In
traditional belief and fiction, a ghost (sometimes known as a spectre (British English) or specter
(American English), phantom, apparition or spook) is the soul or spirit of a dead person or animal
that can appear, in visible form or other manifestation, to the living. Descriptions of the apparition of

This theory concerning ghosts remains unproven. We ponder if it is also possible that this type of
ghost is just trapped in time, unable to communicate or interact with the living due to severe
emotional trauma – a self–created mental prison, if you will. Both ghost theories regarding non–
reactive ghosts will have to be worked on in the future to see which has merit. Another type of ghost
is called a poltergeist, which many believe to be the projected psychokinetic energy of a living
person that creates movement of objects and various noises. Though the word "poltergeist" is
German for "noisy ghost," this type of phenomenon is not attributed to ghosts by those who have
studied such accounts. It seems true poltergeist haunting activity is typically centred around a female
adolescent in the home who is unwittingly producing the disturbance. The disturbance typically
ceases over time, as the adolescent ages.
A theory regarding ghosts centres around the previously described condition the earthbound spirits
find themselves in. For these reasons, we believe many a haunting occurs, as ghosts are suffering
and in need of assistance in easing the emotional pain. We believe that we are finding most ghostly
activity, such as noises, dreams, visible appearances, various disturbance, communications,
touching, and even attacks, can all be explained by coming to understand the desperate minds of
pained, disembodied spirits.

Puritans And The American Ethos And Democratic Spirit
Puritans founded America, and for roughly two centuries, defined American culture. Their
zealousness has created cultural backlashes to many progressive movements, but also organized
community picnics, sent aid to impoverished populations (albeit with perverse logic), and comforted
millions of Americans, both now and in the past, facing an uncertain world. Tocqueville
unequivocally professed the proverbial glue Puritanism has on the American ethos and democratic
spirit: "Puritanism was not merely a religious doctrine, but it corresponded in many points with the
most absolute democratic and republican theories." But American religiosity is diminishing. Other
forces like materialism, globalism, humanism, and science continue to push the world into a new
frontier. Between 2007 and 2014, adults who are religiously affiliated dropped 6%; though, 77%
percent of Americans are religiously affiliated and 58% find religion very important–and those who
identify strongly with religion continue to have the same intensity in belief. With the election of
Donald Trump, many see the dark side of this puritan spirit rising, the parts entangled with our
country's deepest, darkest roots: more racism, sexism, and jingoism. Undeniably, more of these
insidious weeds have sprouted in our democratic field as of late, despite always being hidden a mere

Many people believe not. Ghosts do not actually exist. They don't make any sense, if you can walk
through walls, then why can you pick things up, shouldn't it just slide threw your hand? If a ghost is
something that is stuck here after it dies because it needs to finish an important task on earth, then
does it go to heaven when its done? If so, can people tell when the ghost is gone and when it has left
the earth and finished its task or do people still think its there? in my opinion they are not real, but
spirits are, a spirit is something that is just here. After some people die they don't know where to go
or what to do. When you die, some people linger while they figure out where to go and what to do.
So they stay here, the only reason they can stay is because after you die all the energy leaves your

Objections to Descartes’ Interactionism
In the following essay I will be offering some objections to Descartes' interactionism as is primarily
represented in his works The Passions of the Soul, Part I and Correspondence with
Princess Elisabeth, Concerning the Union of Mind and Body. I will start by describing the basic
features of how Descartes' notion of interactionism works. Namely, that the pineal gland is the
"principle seat" of the mind because it is the only singular part of the brain. The pineal gland also
has a range of movements, which correspond to the body and to the soul to the capacity that it can
be
'thrusted' by either the soul or the animal spirits. After describing Descartes' interactionism, I will
offer three objections that I view to provide ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
When it comes to Descartes reply, in the Passions of the Soul he uses the word 'impulse' when
describing the movements of the pineal gland and gives the impression that many of these impulses
would be very slight and thus unnoticeable due to the fact that they only occur if the opposite
impulse
(from either the soul or the animal spirits) is stronger than itself (Passions, 366). This leads me to
believe he would respond to the first objection by saying something to the effect of the movements
or impulses being so small they are undetectable (at least by the technology available to him).
My second objection applies to the plausibility of a causal interaction between an immaterial soul
and a material brain under the currently accepted laws of physics and more specifically of the law of
the conservation of energy. As it is understood, energy is neither created nor destroyed. If this is the
case, when the immaterial mind causally interacts with the material pineal gland, where does this
energy come from? This energy is not simply created for that would be against the laws of physics.
If it is not created though, it must be coming from somewhere and is likely being stored in a similar
place. The answer does not occur to me to describe where an immaterial mind would store its energy
so as to causally interact with a material brain.
Descartes' possible reply to this might come from The Passions of the Soul in where he describes the
soul as being

Essay about The Grapes of Wrath
The True American Spirit of The Grapes of Wrath
John Steinbeck's novel, The Grapes of Wrath is an excellent portrayal of the common and true
Americans. While it is of course a book of deep thought and incredible symbolism, most of all The
Grapes of Wrath gives these common American workers a voice and a distinct identity, and doesn't
just turn them into a stereotype or cliche.
Steinbeck's book could be regarded as one of the best books from America and perhaps the best on
the subject of the Great Depression. It doesn't focus on the stock market crashing or from the upper
class perspective at all; instead it shows the effects of it on the common man. And, like all great
fictional stories set in historical events, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The book opens with descriptions of the changing land and how severe droughts and dust storms are
taking place. Then we meet a little character named Tom Joad, who is walking along the dusty,
sunny highway just after being released from prison. Along the road he comes across an old friend
of his, a preacher named Jim Casy who has recently lost faith in his vocation. Jim tags along with
Tom for the walk back to the old Joad place, but when they arrive all that is found is the broken
down, deserted house, and a rather looney (or just stubborn) old neighbor.
Tom and Jim eventually find his family, who are staying down the road a few miles, with their
uncle. After a joyous reunion with Tom, they announce they will be leaving for a California in
search of work. And seeing how there's no work around their hometown in Oklahoma because of the
dust storms and droughts, they pack up the truck, load it full with Grandpa and Grandma, two young
children, the older sister and her husband, the teenaged brother and the uncle, Tom and Jim, and of
course old Ma and Pa. They then go on a lengthy epic of a journey traveling from Oklahoma to
California coming across strange characters and desperate ones, all of whom (including the Joads)
are being led to California as a result of fairly deviant scam.
What the Joads and the other out–of–work families from the mid–west

Two Spirits Native American Culture

  • 1. Two Spirits Native American Culture Culture is a complex concept that incorporates society's beliefs, values, arts, attitudes and more. People like to be able to categorize animals, objects and unfortunately people. This idea of categorizing people has been around all throughout history. Whether it be race, religion, politics, or gender, people like categorization. Ideas that stray from tradition and challenge cultural norms lead to discrimination and ignorance. For example, in the late 1800s and early 1900s women did not have the same rights as their male counterparts, and women continue to struggle to receive full equality, the wage gap. Transgender or "Two Spirited" is when a person's personal identity and gender does not correspond with their birth sex. The movie "Two Spirits" ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... It's really unfortunate our culture doesn't view transgender people the same as the Navajo tribe. Transgender people and families of trans people have to cope with discrimination and hate daily. The process of coming out is a lot different for transgender than coming out as gay. The coming out process is very difficult and emotional for families. Going from having a daughter to a son or a son to a daughter is a challenging, emotional process for families. Parents and families have to accept new pronouns and name changes. That is if the family is understanding and accepting of having a transgender son or daughter, unfortunately some parents are unaccepting. When parents don't want anything to do with their child, the transgender person has no immediate support system. The child has to cope with all the physical, mental, and emotional trials on their own. Not only does the child have to deal with discrimination from society, they have to deal with discrimination from their own parents, who are supposed to love them. Forty–one percent of people in the transgender community have tried to commit suicide. Like the documentary "Two Spirits" said, everyone has a purpose, we should not discriminate against innocent transgender children or adults, or anyone for that ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 9. American Religion And The American Of American Culture And... American Exceptionalism American Exceptionalism is defined in literature as Americans' deprecation of power politics and old–fashioned diplomacy, mistrust of powerful standing armies and entangling peacetime commitments, their supposedly moralistic judgements about other people's domestic systems, and belief that liberal values transfer readily to foreign affairs. The reason for American Exceptionalism could be chased back to American Culture and American Spirit. Even though the United States system is not subject to the same contradictions and influences as other countries. The belief in American superiority finds its foundation in some of their culture's basic religious and cultural constructs. And it's being confirmed that the mental and moral superiority of Americans being actively reiterated by American culture to the American public via movies, television and political rhetoric. The American Spirit is being realized for all Americans are told in media that only they know how the world really works, and only they know how it should be worked. So the American Exceptionlism is the result of American culture and spirit. Harold Koh and Ted Bromund are keeping different opinions based on the influence of American Exceptionlism. It is a debate between "pure" virtues and "both good and bad". In my opinion, American Exceptionalism has both good and bad sides and we should try to reduce the double standards by following better angles of national nature. In the ... In 2016, the theme for Mental Health Month is – "Life with a Mental Illness". Therefore, Mental Health America is calling on individuals to share their stories about what life with a mental illness feels like, for them. Again, God made the body to release certain hormones during exercise and just by taking those steps, or going for a swim, one's mind and body can be refreshed and renewed. Again, in the Bible, several verses address exercise from both the spiritual and physical perspectives. For instance, in 1 Corinthians 9: 24–27, we are asked, do you not know that in a race all the runners run, but only one receives the prize? So run that you may obtain it. Every athlete exercises self–control in all things. They do it to receive a perishable wreath, but we an imperishable. So I do not run aimlessly; I do not box as one beating the air. But I discipline my body and keep it under control, lest after preaching to others I myself should be disqualified. So, just move and God will do the rest. The healing process is started when we dare to go out in the fresh air and sun and move our bodies. In summary, while mental health conditions are plaguing Americans, if we meditate on God's word, confess our sins and pray for one another, eat well, and exercise, we can renew our minds and be healthy in body, mind, soul, and spirit. We hope that all our readers had a wonderful mental health month. Please give us a call at 404–500–9204 to set up an appointment to see one of our counselors. Kind ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

When I sat up I noticed an average–looking man standing in the darkness of my bedroom. Frightened, I grabbed my blanket, moved closer to the wall, and followed the man with my wide–open eyes. Eventually, he made his way into my half– open closet door. I ran to turn the light on faster than a wimpy kid who punched the tough guy in school. Occasionally, the ghost will attach to a person, place or object. Some ghosts are rather weak and highly dependent on the place or person they are attached to. They are sometimes called earthbound spirits. Some other ghosts have gained so much energy that they can move around and even make objects move with their energy. These are called poltergeists. (What to Do) Poltergeists are one kind of ghost that one would not enjoy to have in their company. "Very strong poltergeists have a limited ability to slam doors or make objects fall on your head" (What to Do). The phrase is used to describe a variety of positive feelings, including fulfillment, gratification, joy and appreciation. Happiness comes when we are pleased and contented. Happiness is a feeling of contentment that life is just as it should be. The right happiness, enlightenment, comes when you have all of your needs satisfied, because when we let ourselves be happy, it becomes easier said than done. Thomas Moore gives several examples of Re– enchantment that he thinks are disenchanting. You do not have to look far for ruins. Ruins are enchanting, the ruins that he calls enchanting are not really enchanting but instead disenchanting because the functions of these things once fulfilled has gone off likes a bird flying away from the nest. "We are left with objects that have a hollowness that we can fill with our own wonder and fantasy" (86). Moore provides examples throughout his book which supports his theories of everyday life. I credit Moore and his theory of enchantment in the world, which can and does differ from other human resources. You are surrounded by "real," individual things not imitated. When you appreciate the individual surroundings that are an enchantment, you're honoring the exact qualities that make a place special. "We need Physical images to embody the spirit that has polluted towns and wilderness, because enchantment can't be achieved into the abstract" (146). Before establishing this freedom, every American had only one question stuck in their head: What is freedom? Our country received it in the year of 1776 from the British through a series of difficulties and wars. African Americans defined it as an escape from slavery, while immigrants defined it as their acceptance into a new society. More yet, women of the women's suffrage defined their freedom as their recognition into society and for their rights to be equal to that of every other man. The American Identity, one that defines us all, would therefore be our courage and devotion among all other emotions to stand up for our rights, independence, and our freedom. The War of 1812 signified a military conflict between the USA and the United Kingdom of Great Britain. It's known for many things, but the most memorable event in this period was the writing of the Star Spangled Banner by Francis Scott Key. His devotion to his country and inspiration to do anything for freedom led him to write this song, which eventually became our national anthem. He once said, "It seemed as though mother earth had opened and was vomiting shot and shell in a sheet of fire and brimstone." (Francis Scott Key) The feeling that came across Scott's being was a realization of true freedom. Both sides of the war had suffered losses, but America gained an ability to sail and trade freely. Freedom shed light once again. Probably the most re–known civil rights movement was the struggle for former slaves to attain freedom. Among these slaves was one who not only freed herself, but also freed a numerous amount of other slaves that she encountered. This woman is known to us all as Harriet Tubman, but was known by the slaves as a "saint" who helped them get their freedom. As said by Richard in Black Boy, "My life as a Negro in America had led me to feel...that the problem of humanity was more important than bread, more important than physical living itself; for I felt that without a common ... • 29. Romanticism In The Awakening Romanticism can be characterized by its emphasis on emotion and individualism as well as glorification of all the past and nature. There was a strong recourse to historical and natural inevitability, a Zeitgeist, in the representation of its ideas. That there is this spirit that All people aim for freedom and most fall short to reach their ultimate goal of total freedom. I will argue that Edna Pontellier and Hegel are trying to find freedom during their era, but are unable to reach it. In "The Awakening," by Kate Chopin, we find our main character Edna who has this longing for freedom and no matter what she tries she feels trapped in a society that she feels intrudes on her freedom. During this time in age, Edna is expected to perform her domestic duties and care for the health and happiness of her family. In this time of the Zeitgeist, victorian women were prevented from seeking the satisfaction of their own wants and needs. During Edna's gradual awakening, she discovers her own identity and acknowledges her emotions and desires actually are. The water symbolizes freedom, escape, independence. Edna's awakening truly begins in the water, because this is where she learned how to swim. This was something she has always previously been afraid of and after this incident, her mind begins to turn with new possibilities of independence and the future. "As she swam, she seemed to be reaching out for the unlimited in which to lose herself (Chopin, p. 32)." This event in her life ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

It spoke to me on so many levels. From my understanding, I believe it's saying healing is not only for the body, but for the soul as well; not treating the soul is way worst then not treating the body. The body is the physical which is seen with the naked eye while the soul is the inner most part of the body which is unseen and in most cases is left untreated. In my opinion healing the body is just as important as healing the soul. • 41. Analysis Of ' I Descended ' By William Shakespeare Throughout the history of literature, classic tales have been adapted and rewritten by various authors. As a result, retellings are only a natural occurrence in literature and can oftentimes convey the basic story in new and exciting ways. On the other hand, retellings can also miss the mark, failing to produce a story that can triumphantly stand on its own as a work of art. An example of this is Robin Talley's As I Descended, a modern telling of William Shakespeare's Macbeth adapted to fall within the genre of young adult literature. Without a doubt, Robin Talley's As I Descended follows the basic plot of Macbeth–the rise and fall of an ambitious individual who resorts to evil deeds in order to obtain prestige that is "predestined" to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... First, Maria describes a weird mirror on her grandparent's back porch that she would stare at as a child. But, as stated by the narrator, "She never saw anything except her own reflection" (Talley 14). While Maria believes that the mirror had some sort of paranormal quality, there is no real experience to back up this claim–it was only a feeling that Maria had. On the other hand, further on in the novel, it is described that Maria once saw a little boy, who said her name, sitting at the foot of her bed. Considering the fact that these two mediocre examples are supposed to prove Maria's seasoned past with spirits, it is only logical for readers to feel deceived. Talley went out of her way to declare that Maria had a history with the supernatural in the first chapter of the novel, and even repeated this fact several times throughout the story. However, she failed to effectively elaborate upon this, instead providing two examples that were nothing short of unfulfilling. As a result, readers start the novel wanting to know more about Maria's past, but are only met with an incomplete backstory, leaving a feeling of frustration after the novel is finished. In connection to Maria's incomplete backstory, Talley's second false step was the introduction of a supernatural being known as La Llorona. Specifically, readers are introduced to two very differing accounts of this spirit. According to Maria's nanny, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Apprehension from both sides of the name change is rising up and everyone is getting involved. The question everybody is waiting for is if team manager Dan Snyder will crack under the pressure to change the name or will stay with his statement of "Well never change the name". People of the side to change the name say the main issue with the name is it 's very derogatory to the native americans and it 's a racial slur. They find it very repugnant and are not going to stop this war until the redskins change it. On the other hand, People of the side who wants to keep the name say the name is not racist or isn 't intended to be . That its a name that represents America 's history and it captures the spirit of the Washington redskins team, fans and nation. My claim is that the name is very disturbing and is indeed a racial slur. Native americans don 't deserve this injustice. The reason why i say this is because as a African american kid in america have faced multiple times where I 've been called very negatory racial slurs and treated different based on the color of my skin and I was always aversion to these names.Knowing i 've faced the struggles of racism I would loathe if someone else had to go through this The primary argument that addresses my side is that this "name" is very racist and disparaging to native americans. In the article "Redskins and Respect:A longlife Washington ... • 61. How Spirit Airlines With American Airlines Essay WHY I CHOSE THIS COMPANY Founded in 1964, Spirit Airlines actually began operations in the trucking industry under the name "Clippert Trucking Company," based in Michigan. In subsequent years the firm encountered many changes in name, headquarters, as well as shifted into different industries entirely. In 1983, the company branched out into the charter tour operating sector, as "Charter One." Particularly, they provided tours to entertainment destinations such as Las Vegas, Atlantic City, and the islands to the southeast of Florida known as The Bahamas. Almost three decades late in 1992, the company officially changed its name to the ultra–low cost passenger carrier company we all know today as Spirit Airlines, which is based in Fort Lauderdale– Hollywood International Airport, under CEO Ben Baldanza. These series of changes in industry, in combination with the fact that I am an avid "Spirit flyer," definitely sparked my interest in further investigating the financial stance of the company. PURPOSE The purpose of this study is to compare Spirit Airlines with American Airlines using the financial ratios of liquidity, activity, debt, profitability and the market, and to derive some concrete conclusions about the financial nature of Spirit Airlines. According to Spirit Airlines (2015) "Historic Stock Lookup," from 2011 to 2014, the year–end stock prices have increased by 79.4%, which is outstanding. • 73. Theme Of Language Devices In The Joy Luck Club In The Joy Luck Club, language devices such as figurative language, diction, sentence structure, and significant detail are used to characterize the different characters in the book. These language devices capture the characters' emotions, personality, qualities of mind, and goals. Amy Tan uses a variety of language devices to characterize Ying–ying's emotions of sorrow, disconnection, shame, love, her passive, careless personality, and her quality of mind of determination. The use of language devices creates Ying–ying's emotions of sorrow and her passive personality and quality of mind. Throughout the novel, Ying–ying mentions that her daughter Lena and she are ghosts. The ghost becomes a symbol of passivity, a symbol of not taking action to stop bad things from happening. The ghost symbol creates Ying–ying's voice by representing her passive personality and quality of mind. Additionally, the author uses significant pieces of detail. In "The Moon Lady," Ying–ying gets lost. She observes her shadow and describes it, "It was shorter this time, shrunken and wild–looking. We ran together over to some bushes along a walkway and hid" (80). This piece of detail shows a personality shift in Ying–ying. It describes the changes in Ying–ying's shadow which represents the change of her restless personality to a passive and silent one. Another language device used is diction. When introducing "The Moon Lady," Ying–ying says, "And I want to tell her this: We are lost, she and I, unseen and not seen, unheard and not hearing, unknown by others" (64). The words "unseen," "unheard," and "unknown" are related to one another at a certain level, and they create a general picture of Ying–ying's emotion. Ying–ying feels anguish for not doing anything in her whole life and letting herself become a ghost. The diction also reveals Ying–ying's anguish for letting her daughter become a ghost like herself. Language devices capture Ying–ying's emotions of disconnection and her careless personality. Ying–ying starts to talk about her daughter Lena and the effect her passive personality has on her. Ying–ying explains how she lived in America, accepting everything that came her way and how she accepted Lena's American ways. She says, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

In the years that followed the War, a sense of national unity materialized throughout the country as a One Party System grew out of James Monroe's presidency with the disappearance of the Federalists. The Columbian Centinel proclaimed that this time period after the War of 1812 was an "Era of Good Feelings", a phrase applied to Monroe's presidency ever since. Unfortunately, not everyone favored the American System. The South, primarily agricultural with a large exporting economy, had to import all of its goods having to pay up to ⅓ it's price in tax in order to comply with the American System. John Randolph, a Southerner, expressed his grievances to Congress hoping to alleviate the struggles of the South by saying, "no one interest in the country should be sacrificed by the management of taxation to another... the agriculturalists bear the whole front of the war and taxation" (Document A). In saying this Randolph not only questioned Congress 's intentions of collecting revenue and favoring the North, but also its job to regulate commerce, not taxes. The American System clearly drove a wedge between Northern and Southern interests. The institution of chartering a Second National Bank also stimulated many controversies. Allen Smith attributed this to the fact that the colonists were "more active, enterprising, and dissatisfied" than the typical Englishman, in his work The Spirit of American Government,. He noted that the Revolutionary War was not sparked by colonists hating the monarchical system, but by the negative relationship between England and its newest colony. This attitude, coupled with an active revolution, created the perfect outlet for democratic theory to be expressed and enacted (Smith, 1907; Thoman, n.d.). In creating an independent nation, the founding fathers looked to various forms of government, both ancient and modern, for inspiration. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 109. Ghosts And Spirits By Elisabeth Kubler-Ross Unfinished Business: Ghosts and Spirits The average person may think of ghosts and spirits as something disguised in a white sheet with holes for eyes, a ragged figure dragging chains and moaning. In addition, something floating through the air and that can enter and exit rooms without the need to open doors. This is an example of the way ghosts and spirits are usually described in stories or depicted in movies. It has been said that ghosts and spirits are souls that cannot pass into the next world or dimension once they have died on earth. Although, truth be told that all ghosts and spirits have a purpose to be able to travel through two different worlds, life and afterlife. Ghosts and spirits proves to be a dominant symbol in the play ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... It is also not uncommon to meet former family at the time of death that delivers help to the afterlife. All of these guides will normally always create a successful transition in and out of the world. Pursuing this further, Elisabeth Kubler–Ross describes that "it is important to know that every single human being, from the moment of birth until the moment when they make the transition and end this physical existence, is in the presence of guides or guardian angels that will give you aid to the transition from life after death". Basically, the psychopomp is another way to help the spirits get through to the other side (animals, friends, former family and guardian angels). The psychopomp is a person that is born with this talent in guiding with the transitions. It is also a skill that can be leant, the primary function is not to reconnect the living with the dead, but to help the spirits cross over. Angels. Guardian angels. Spirit guides. Angels, Guardian angels and spirit guides are really the "good type" of ghosts, althoughthey fit more in the description of a spirit. In the Hebrew Bible and the New Testament, angels are known as God's messengers. Common Knowledge of angels also knows that they are sent by God to watch over the human race, to guard and protect from danger, as well as to give humans signs to excel in life. Kennedy gave a rhetorically sound speech at Rice University in Houston, Texas with the intent to rally American support for his space exploration proposition. Kennedy had proposed his plan to congress a couple months before and this speech was his call to the American people to stand behind him. While the speech is remembered for its famous line, "We choose to go to the moon," it was a carefully constructed piece of rhetoric. Kennedy's immediate audience extends beyond the people that were in Rice Stadium that day. Kennedy utilizes a form of the known–new contract towards the beginning of his speech to show the audience where they stand in reference to history while creating a sense of urgency. In his approach to the known–new contract, Kennedy conveys where America has been and where America is going. Kennedy first conveys America's scientific position by stating, "Despite the striking fact that most of the scientists that the world has ever known are alive and working today... the unanswered and the unfinished still far outstrip our collective comprehension." While the first sentence could have been worded better to express that there are more scientists active than ever before, this section of the speech conveys that America has many unanswered questions, but it also has the scientific manpower to answer these questions in order to make space travel a reality. As Kennedy progresses, he condenses human history into a 50–year timespan with an emphasis on scientific advancements in order to give the audience perspective by establishing where humankind has been. Bruni also used several statistics and examples to show how the solar eclipse provided Americans in several towns with an opportunity to make a lot of money, and how Americans pounced on it. Two examples of the humor Bruni used were the inclusion of motel rates in Casper, Wyoming, and a statistic showing how long the eclipse really lasted. The mother would slightly deliver their baby making sure not to let the baby touch the floor. The father would take the placenta and bury it. For a girl it would have been buried under the parents' bed and for a male it would be buried in an honorable place so he could watch over the household. This was important to do because once they died they believed their spirit would return to get this jacket and fight a long journey until they found their ancestors. Back in Laos they would rely on the shaman if something went wrong during their pregnancy. The women would also watch that they were eating, making sure to pay attention to their cravings. This was some of the thing they did to prevent the malevolent spirit (dab). Once the baby is born they would have a ceremony to ensure the baby keeps its soul. They believe you became ill due to a lost soul which was common in infants. To avoid this they dressed the baby up, sacrificed two chickens and a pig, and the elders would tie strings around the baby 's wrist binding their soul to prevent sickness. At the age of three Lia had her first seizure. Her older sister slammed the door and she began to seize. Her parents believed that the soul was scared out of Lia and without her soul she had become ill. These are said to get a high reading of electromagnetic frequencies whenever a spirit is present. A lot of people think the readings are fabricated, from the EMF detector having a malfunction and short circuiting from a wiring problem, but there is an explanation behind the readings. Einstein had a theory that energy can be converted into matter and matter into energy ("Six Types of Hauntings"). Because people are made up of matter, on a level it is believed that we in a way also exist as energy and this energy surrounds us while we live. This energy that surrounds us is sometimes known as an aura. It surrounds us and projects our thoughts and feelings around us. When we die, people are said to lose six ounces instantly. Some people believe that the reason we instantly become lighter is because when we die the aura that constantly surrounds our bodies, leaves our bodies ("Six Types of Hauntings"). Although many people doubt the existence of auras, it explains the weight loss at death and the reason why ghosts can be picked up by EMF meters. Spirits tend to be peaceful, but slightly sorrowful , mourning a life that has passed them. The reasons why a spirit may stay around is because it felt incomplete with it's previous life and still believes that it has a purpose to serve whether watching out for a loved one, keeping watch over people who live in the spirits old house, or maybe even reliving moments of their life that they can't let go of yet. • 133. The Split Horn Life Of A Hmong Culture Summary In this documentary, The Split Horn Life of a Hmong Shaman in America focuses on the religious containment of the Hmong people. Their rich history goes back to the time in a village in North East Asia where they believed that the Shaman were the great healers for the sick. The Hmong were living a peaceful life until the Vietnam war broke out and destroyed their village. Many of the Hmong villagers fled their beloved homeland in order to seek refuge form the war. Many were fortunate enough to find shelter in Thailand where they stayed for the majority of the conflict. Some were even lucky enough to get a sponsorship to America. As they slowly came to America the Hmong were worried that they might lose their religious roots to the American customs. Some of the Hmong people had to learn English and how to read and write. In their village, they never had to learn how to read or write because of their background and their religion. The Hmong people feel that their culture and values still play a major role in their daily lives. Many Hmong communities rely on the shamans for religious and spiritual support. Without the shamans, the Hmong culture would be incomplete and slowly diminish. The Hmong's believe in shamans. Shamans are religious specialists commonly found in small–scale egalitarian societies. Some people encounter the supernatural phenomena, some not. So there are people who believe and people who disbelieves. Therefore, here are some introduction of what ghost really is, where we can find their existence, how can we feel their presence and does science proof the existence of ghost. In traditional belief and fiction, a ghost (sometimes known as a spectre (British English) or specter (American English), phantom, apparition or spook) is the soul or spirit of a dead person or animal that can appear, in visible form or other manifestation, to the living. We ponder if it is also possible that this type of ghost is just trapped in time, unable to communicate or interact with the living due to severe emotional trauma – a self–created mental prison, if you will. Both ghost theories regarding non– reactive ghosts will have to be worked on in the future to see which has merit. Another type of ghost is called a poltergeist, which many believe to be the projected psychokinetic energy of a living person that creates movement of objects and various noises. Though the word "poltergeist" is German for "noisy ghost," this type of phenomenon is not attributed to ghosts by those who have studied such accounts. It seems true poltergeist haunting activity is typically centred around a female adolescent in the home who is unwittingly producing the disturbance. The disturbance typically ceases over time, as the adolescent ages. A theory regarding ghosts centres around the previously described condition the earthbound spirits find themselves in. For these reasons, we believe many a haunting occurs, as ghosts are suffering and in need of assistance in easing the emotional pain. We believe that we are finding most ghostly activity, such as noises, dreams, visible appearances, various disturbance, communications, touching, and even attacks, can all be explained by coming to understand the desperate minds of pained, disembodied spirits. ... • 141. Puritans And The American Ethos And Democratic Spirit Puritans founded America, and for roughly two centuries, defined American culture. Their zealousness has created cultural backlashes to many progressive movements, but also organized community picnics, sent aid to impoverished populations (albeit with perverse logic), and comforted millions of Americans, both now and in the past, facing an uncertain world. Tocqueville unequivocally professed the proverbial glue Puritanism has on the American ethos and democratic spirit: "Puritanism was not merely a religious doctrine, but it corresponded in many points with the most absolute democratic and republican theories." But American religiosity is diminishing. Other forces like materialism, globalism, humanism, and science continue to push the world into a new frontier. Between 2007 and 2014, adults who are religiously affiliated dropped 6%; though, 77% percent of Americans are religiously affiliated and 58% find religion very important–and those who identify strongly with religion continue to have the same intensity in belief. With the election of Donald Trump, many see the dark side of this puritan spirit rising, the parts entangled with our country's deepest, darkest roots: more racism, sexism, and jingoism. Undeniably, more of these insidious weeds have sprouted in our democratic field as of late, despite always being hidden a mere few feet below the surface. Objections to Descartes’ Interactionism In the following essay I will be offering some objections to Descartes' interactionism as is primarily represented in his works The Passions of the Soul, Part I and Correspondence with Princess Elisabeth, Concerning the Union of Mind and Body. I will start by describing the basic features of how Descartes' notion of interactionism works. Namely, that the pineal gland is the "principle seat" of the mind because it is the only singular part of the brain. The pineal gland also has a range of movements, which correspond to the body and to the soul to the capacity that it can be 'thrusted' by either the soul or the animal spirits. After describing Descartes' interactionism, I will offer three objections that I view to provide ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... When it comes to Descartes reply, in the Passions of the Soul he uses the word 'impulse' when describing the movements of the pineal gland and gives the impression that many of these impulses would be very slight and thus unnoticeable due to the fact that they only occur if the opposite impulse (from either the soul or the animal spirits) is stronger than itself (Passions, 366). This leads me to believe he would respond to the first objection by saying something to the effect of the movements or impulses being so small they are undetectable (at least by the technology available to him). My second objection applies to the plausibility of a causal interaction between an immaterial soul and a material brain under the currently accepted laws of physics and more specifically of the law of the conservation of energy. As it is understood, energy is neither created nor destroyed. If this is the case, when the immaterial mind causally interacts with the material pineal gland, where does this energy come from? This energy is not simply created for that would be against the laws of physics. If it is not created though, it must be coming from somewhere and is likely being stored in a similar place. The answer does not occur to me to describe where an immaterial mind would store its energy so as to causally interact with a material brain. Descartes' possible reply to this might come from The Passions of the Soul in where he describes the soul as being ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

While it is of course a book of deep thought and incredible symbolism, most of all The Grapes of Wrath gives these common American workers a voice and a distinct identity, and doesn't just turn them into a stereotype or cliche. Steinbeck's book could be regarded as one of the best books from America and perhaps the best on the subject of the Great Depression.
