The purpose of filmopeningsistoattract the viewersimmediatelysothattheyare hookedintothe
film.The filmopeningshouldalsostate the genre of the filmandwill mostlikelyshow the
protagonistor/andantagonist.The conventionsof afilmopeningconsistof editing, sound, mise-en-
scene,props,characters, costumes, locations, andcamerashots. Ina zombie genre filmthe opening
of the filmcontainsenigma.
Enigmameansmysteryandis a veryimportantconventioninfilmopeningsandisusedinmostfilm
openings,nomatterwhatgenre. Itmakesthe audience attached,questioningwhatishappeningand
wantingtofindout.This makesthemwantto continue watchingthe filmtofindoutwhatis
happening.
Enigmacreatestensiontowardsthe zombiesanddrawsthe attentiontowardsthe audience.In
termsof enigmainourfilmopening,similarlytomainotherfilmsopeningsmakesthe audience

audience tofindoutwhathappensto the maincharacters.

create tensiontoa film.Forexample ahorrormovie withnoaddedsoundthere wouldn’tbe any

on topcan alsohelpthe viewersestablishthe genre of the filmthattheyare watching.

occur at the start,at the endof sometimeshave themcome upacrossthe time of the filmopening.

productionlogoafterourinitialstogether.The productionlogoisfollowedbythe film.Thenthe film
title comesupina weirdredcolour.The redcolourwas usedto connote danger.Thishelpsestablish
the genre of the filmforthe audience.The namesof the actorsappear whentheyare introduced.
Theyoccur in an appropriate positionsotheyaren’tinthe waybut yetvisible.Howeverwe didn’t
include all of the actors name,onlythe maincharactersdue to themnot actuallyappearinginthe
filmopening.Ididthisdue tonot followingeveryothergenre butkeepingthe conventionsof the
zombie genre. Ibelieve the waythatwe deliveredthe three conventionshave beendone effectively
for the zombie genre.
