Textual Analysis – Newspaper

Newspapers
Newspapers such as Daily Mail and The Times would be
relevant for my newspaper advertisement because they are
stereotypically higher class. However, these newspaper
advertisements are more prestigious and do not contain
television shows advertisements. Therefore, publishing my
advertisement in one of these newspapers would been
unsuitable. Yet, there are different printings of another
newspaper, The Sun. There is a National, South, North and a
Scottish version of The Sun. Therefore, I would advertise our
new TV Channel in the National version, so it would be more
likely to result in higher ratings and a large variety of people.
The Sun, also, has had the highest amount of readers between
January and December 2010, followed behind The Daily Mail.
The Sun is also one of the cheapest newspapers in Britain and
the most available making it more accessible.
Audience
The Sun is primarily aimed at teenagers and adults both
male and female aged between 18-25. I believe this age
range will be interested in a new TV Channel because of
the links to their ages. Younger people don’t generally
read newspapers, they prefer to use the internet and read
magazines. Therefore, the newspaper advertisement will
reach the older audiences, whereas the double page
spread and the website, introducing the new TV Channel,
will reach the younger audience. The newspaper
advertisement will be aimed at adults. Due to teenagers
having a lack of interest in newspapers, the website will
be suitable, due to teenagers stereotypically receiving
news online.
TV Channel advertisement
Channel 4 adverts usually have the house style of the TV Channel. The key features are:
Introduction
The short introduction
gives the name of the
show(s) and then a brief
sentence overview of
what the show is all
about. This is usually in
the bottom left hand
corner and is in a
contrasting colour to the
rest of the picture, to
make it stand out. The
text is simple and in block
letters to make it easier
to read. The introduction
with the important and
relevant information is
important to stand out
and be memorable to the
reader.
Logo
The Channel 4 logo would be included on all Channel 4 linked advertisements and is placed suitably out of the way, yet
in clear view. In this example, the logo is on the opposite side of the introduction and is in white to suit the house style.
The white contrasts against the dark background to make it stand out and, again, be more memorable.
Further information
Where you can access
further information has
been presented in white
text to stand out,
however, has been
aligned at the bottom of
the page so it is out the
way. Giving the website of
the channel gives younger
people the chance to look
online and find out more
information about, either,
the advertisement which
has been advertised, or,
more information about
the channel itself. The
show also becomes more
accessible to read about.

Advertising a New TV Channel in The Sun Newspaper

  • 1. Textual Analysis – Newspaper Advertisement Danielle Watkins
  • 2. Newspapers Newspapers such as Daily Mail and The Times would be relevant for my newspaper advertisement because they are stereotypically higher class. However, these newspaper advertisements are more prestigious and do not contain television shows advertisements. Therefore, publishing my advertisement in one of these newspapers would been unsuitable. Yet, there are different printings of another newspaper, The Sun. There is a National, South, North and a Scottish version of The Sun. Therefore, I would advertise our new TV Channel in the National version, so it would be more likely to result in higher ratings and a large variety of people. The Sun, also, has had the highest amount of readers between January and December 2010, followed behind The Daily Mail. The Sun is also one of the cheapest newspapers in Britain and the most available making it more accessible.
  • 3. Audience The Sun is primarily aimed at teenagers and adults both male and female aged between 18-25. I believe this age range will be interested in a new TV Channel because of the links to their ages. Younger people don’t generally read newspapers, they prefer to use the internet and read magazines. Therefore, the newspaper advertisement will reach the older audiences, whereas the double page spread and the website, introducing the new TV Channel, will reach the younger audience. The newspaper advertisement will be aimed at adults. Due to teenagers having a lack of interest in newspapers, the website will be suitable, due to teenagers stereotypically receiving news online.
  • 4. TV Channel advertisement Channel 4 adverts usually have the house style of the TV Channel. The key features are: Introduction The short introduction gives the name of the show(s) and then a brief sentence overview of what the show is all about. This is usually in the bottom left hand corner and is in a contrasting colour to the rest of the picture, to make it stand out. The text is simple and in block letters to make it easier to read. The introduction with the important and relevant information is important to stand out and be memorable to the reader. Logo The Channel 4 logo would be included on all Channel 4 linked advertisements and is placed suitably out of the way, yet in clear view. In this example, the logo is on the opposite side of the introduction and is in white to suit the house style. The white contrasts against the dark background to make it stand out and, again, be more memorable. Further information Where you can access further information has been presented in white text to stand out, however, has been aligned at the bottom of the page so it is out the way. Giving the website of the channel gives younger people the chance to look online and find out more information about, either, the advertisement which has been advertised, or, more information about the channel itself. The show also becomes more accessible to read about.
