Sapir-Whorf Hypothesis <ul><li>Sapir-Whorf hypothesis – the language that you use determines or influences the way in which you view the world </li></ul><ul><li>your language limits or extends how you are able to talk about; increase in communication skills increases HOW you can talk about he world around you </li></ul>

How Words Work <ul><li>Denotative – the dictionary definition; objective (means the same to everyone) </li></ul><ul><li>Connotative – the feelings associate with the words; subjective (depends on your experiences, background, etc) </li></ul><ul><li>The connotative meanings of words can cause problems or miscommunication </li></ul>
