Peek at the Week:
o This week in Reading was our Unit 1 Test Week!
o We identified letters, identified initial and medial short
/a/, initial and final /n/.
o We continued to review sequencing story events,
using pictures in stories and practiced reading and
using the high frequency words.
o We practiced using left to right, identifying colors and
the terms “first, next, last”.
o The students continued to print the uppercase and
lowercase letters Aa and Nn and worked on printing
out names and numbers.
o In Math we practiced using the digits to make two
digit numbers. The teen numbers can be confusing!
We also practiced “ten frames” to model numbers 0-
10.
o In science, we were learning the basic definition of an
animal and exploring animals in your neighborhood.
o The students also identified local organizations and
businesses in our area.
Coming Up:
o In Reading we will begin Unit 2. Our
letter will be Dd and the HF words will be
“and, do, up and me”.
o Also, in Reading, we will recognize
rhyming words, be introduced to the
letter Dd, blend syllables, use character
and setting to understand a story,
segment syllables, , and blend onsets
and rimes.
o In Math we will be writing numbers for
sets of items and making a pattern
macaroni necklace. Students will use
dice to roll and record numbers.
o In science, we will discuss bugs, their
attributes, and where they live.
o Next week is also Buddy Lunch! The
students are very excited to have visitors.

We are in the process of reorganizing our high frequency
words for the students. You will get more information at
parent conferences.
The end of the marking period is October 26th
. I will be
retesting letter id, number id and sequence of numbers
next week. Please practice this weekend if your child has
difficulty.
Our class is in need of magazines for students to use when searching for letters and words. Try to
avoid ones with ads/pictures that are not appropriate. We also are collecting magazine pictures, if
anyone has time! These would be in the following areas: foods, animals, plants, transportation,
weather, school, house items.
