Issues With The Patriot Act
There are numerous issues with the US Patriot Act. It has forestalled numerous assaults on us from
terrorists; however would you truly need to surrender such a great amount of opportunity by
keeping in mind that the end goal has better control of terrorists. Numerous individuals would
bolster the demonstration since it does offer more assurance against those assaults. Other be that as
it may, would absolutely differ with the demonstration. The USA Patriot Act is really disregarding a
large portion of our Constitution rights. The demonstration will permit the government rights to
investigate your own life. In the event that the legislature has enough confirmation this
demonstration will give the chance to investigate your own things, for example,

The Declaration Of The Patriot Act
We use technology every day, all day, for pretty much everything we do. Any information about
ourselves, messages we send, or phone calls we make, it all takes place on our phones. However,
they are also the biggest risk to our personal security as they are very vulnerable. They are not just
vulnerable to scammers and hackers but also to our own government. Following the attacks of
September 11, 2001, the president at the time, George Bush, responded by passing an act. This act is
known as the Patriot Act. It allows the government unlimited access to phone records, emails, and
text messages without a warrant through National Security Letters and Sneak and Peak Searches.
Why do they do this, why was this act passed, they claim it's for our safety. Both can be obtained
and carried out without a judge's approval, without a warrant, and without the knowledge of the
person who is being searched. The Fourth Amendment is the right of the citizens to legal and just
searches, with a warrant, with probable cause. These are not required under the Patriot Act to search
through call histories and messages. The Patriot Act clearly infringes on the Fourth Amendment and
the rights of the everyday citizen and does not accomplish its original goal of stopping terrorism.
The great American patriot Robert F. Kennedy once said in his famous "Day of Affirmation
Address" that the first and most critical element of "individual liberty is the freedom of speech; the
right to express and communicate

The US Patriot Act
Introduction Americans have always held the rights and liberties close to their hearts. Ever since we
became an independent nation. After the tragic events that happened on September 11th, 2001,
Citizens of America began to ponder if some of their rights and liberties should be sacrificed to
prevent such an attack in the future. National unity took over the country and Americans bonded and
held each other up. They stood up in the face of terrorism and the Presidents approval rating soared
through the roof (from 54% to nearly a whooping 86% which is the highest level it has ever been).
Sadly, the American public rallied behind the Government and provided support for an Act that will
come to violate their freedoms that they cherish so much. Congress drafted the US Patriot Act in
only 45 days (which leads some to believe that it was already pre–made and was just a combination
of a "wish–list" that the FBI had and was waiting for the right time to implement). Still filled with a
sense of national pride and deeply scarred by the terrorist attacks which occurred on September
11th, 2001, americans accepted the Act to blatantly avoid being labeled unpatriotic in the eyes of
their peers and government. Still, in the face of being labeled "unpatriotic", many thousands of open
minded individuals who saw what this Act could in the future openly question the Government
though their cries where heard by mute ears. When the House sent the US Patriot Act to the Senate
for approval in 2001,

Compare the movie "The Patriot" with Historical Reality?
Movies are made to be sold and not history to be perfectly told. If movies include a complete
history, it wouldn't be known as a movie anymore. However, it would be called a documentary,
which most people get fed up of. So interpretations, exaggerations and idealistic scenes are added to
the movie to make it more interesting for the audience. "The Patriot" is a similar film made during
the modern day time about a time period in which none of the experienced the real revolution.
Politically, socially, and culturally, "The Patriot" attempts to give a sense of the scope of aspects
involved in the American Revolution. Despite succeeding in this regard, it still lacks details that
reveal the true complexity of the mixed sentiments present in ... Show more content on

They were also very organized in battle as shown in the movie, and that's why they didn't know how
to deal with militia men. However, the brutality wasn't as much as shown in some parts of the
movie. It is done to show the evilness of the British and so when the patriots killed any British, it
seemed that they are taking revenge and so the brutal actions of the patriots were acceptable. In one
scene, the British regulars order the execution of a colonial soldier captured in uniform. In fact, such
war crimes by regular troops rarely happened. In the most incongruous scene, the people of the
entire town are locked in a church which is then set on fire. It is very hard to believe that any British
soldier would actually burn a church, because mostly everyone at that particular time was either
Puritanical or Catholic. To desecrate such a sacred ground would be tantamount to sin; something
that a British general would never order, nor would his soldiers follow, even if the order was given.
As historian Thomas Fleming puts it: 'Of course it never happened. If it had, do you think
Americans would have forgotten it? It could have kept us out of World War I' (Online). The events
that people were exposed to in the film, were extremely violent, not to mention, only one side of the
story is given.
The colonists on the other hand were no more humane than the British, even though in the movie it
tries to show that they were working on becoming more humane. This assumption comes

After 911 attacks on the World Trade Center, Congress passed a new law: "The Patriot Act" which
has accomplished exactly what it was designed to do," Bush said. "It has helped detect terror cells,
disrupt terrorist plots and save American lives." The five main provisions that took place in 2006
while Bush was President are: (1) telephone taps, internet taps and voice mails – which allow the
government to tap these devises – with a court order. All telephones used by the individual/suspect
may be tapped without a separate order from the court for each devise in question. The government
is also able to seize voice mail/messages that are in question as being evidence. This is something to

If deportation and/or if the individual is not charged for the crime in question, then they will remain
in detainment if they are deemed a risk to security. (4) The government now has the power to track
money that they suspect as being "laundered money" across one border to another or from bank–to–
bank. In 2013, The Treasury Department took action in arresting The Liberty Reserve, as a money
laundering organization, using powers under the Patriot Act to effectively cut the company off from
the U.S. financial system. The executives faced charges for laundering $6 Billion dollars in cyber
money. (5) The Patriot Act provisions – allow for an increase in penalty for any/all terrorist crime
with the statue of limitations eliminated. The key to the Patriot Act is empowering the government
to do the right things – while exercising oversight to prevent any abuse of authority. As long as
lawmakers keep a vigilant eye on police authority, the federal courts remains open, and the debate
about governmental conduct is a vibrant part of the American dialogue, the risk of excessive
encroachment on our fundamental liberties is

Patriot Act The 9/11 terrorist attacks caused a great panic in the United States. They threatened the
safety of everyone as a nation. On September 11th, 2001 19 men associated with the Islamic
extremist group named al–Qaeda, hijacked four airplanes and they carried out suicide attacks
against the United States. Two of the airplanes were flown into both towers of the World Trade
Center in New York City, the third airplane hit the Pentagon just outside of Washington, D.C., and
the fourth airplane crashed in a field in Pennsylvania. More than 3,000 innocent people lost their
lives that day (Soma). The Patriot Act is a U.S. law passed because of the September 11, 2001
terrorist attacks. The goals of the Patriot Act are to strengthen national security and broaden the
powers of law–enforcement agencies with regards to identifying and stopping terrorists (Justice).
The passing and renewal of the Patriot Act has been extremely controversial. Supporters claim that
it's been helpful in several investigations and arrests of terrorists, while others argue the act gives
the government too much power, threatens civil liberties and weakens the very democracy it seeks
to protect (Smith). I believe the patriot act is an invasion of privacy and it belittles our fourth
amendment. Title one of the patriot act authorizes federal money to accomplish much of the act's
necessities and authorizes the Secret Service to create a nationwide electronic crime task force. This

Is The Patriot Movie Historically Accurate
The movie "The Patriot" starring Mel Gibson was an excellent film that was produced in 2000. In
the movie " The Patriot" it portrayed the life of Patriots fighting for freedom , the life of their
families, and the colonies. But many say that this movie is not historically accurate at all. Benjamin
Martin isn't a real person, The battle didn't end in South Carolina it ended in Saratoga New Jersey. "
The Patriot" has its moments of being historically inaccurate and accurate. On my honest opinion
"The Patriot" is historically accurate and in these 4 paragraphs I'll tell you why.
First, with Benjamin Martin. tTo first start the guy isn't real he some made up man that the director
Ronald Emmerich fools you to believe this man help us become the big 50 states. Well you might be
thinking well this movie is supposed to help us learn about history not make it up, well you are
correct but Benjamin Martin symbolizes many of the people who does help build the big 50 states .
To be exact Benjamin Martin exactly could represent Andrew Pickens according to The Patriot Film
Fact Or Fiction : People Andrew Pickens was a militia soldier with a large family and a strict
Presbyterian. Just like Benjamin Martin was. Or Benjamin Martin could symbolize Thomas Sumter
who was known for how he was a an extreme hot head and stubborn just like Benjamin Martin at

How Is The Patriot Historically Accurate
The Patriot Movie is a good movie that is an emotional that explains how the American
Revolutionary War and how things were done. The Patriot is a 2000 American historical fiction war
film directed by Roland Emmerich, written by Robert Rodat, and starring Mel Gibson, Chris Cooper
and Heath Ledger. The film takes place during the real–life events of the Southern theater of the
American Revolutionary War. In the summer of 1781, after six years of war, the American Army
was struggling. The British occupied New York City. The movie The Patriot is somewhat historically
accurate. In The Patriot Movie Benjamin Martin a veteran of the French and Indian War and
widower with seven children is called to Charleston to vote in the South Carolina General. In the
movie Benjamin does what he can to avoid fighting in the Revolutionary War. When his oldest son
Gabriel joins the Patriots and his second born son Thomas is killed, he takes it upon himself to join
and fight with the colonial militia. He is nicknamed "The Ghost" by the British. In the movie Mel

worthless of defeating them. He is a very skilled officer in the British army. In history General
Cornwallis was not as arrogant as shown in the movie. Also in history General Cornwallis was

history General Cornwallis did not attend the surrender ceremony saying that he was not feeling

This is especially true for groups of people in the United States. Immigrants, especially of Arab
origin and those with Islam as their religion are seen as terrorists. This is blatant racism and
discrimination which is also completely against what this country stands for.
Also concerned is the American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU). This is an organization that is
dedicated to raising awareness of civil liberties. The PATRIOT Act, as the name suggests is
supposed to protect the citizens of the country from attacks across its borders. It defeats its own
purpose in attacking from within the very people it's supposed to protect. In fact, it does almost the
opposite by provoking a fear and paranoia that tends to remind us of such wonderful events like the
Spanish inquisition or the Salem Witch Trials.
The ACLU talks about several groups that are unfairly targeted by the Act to the extent that the
constitution is being violated. I have already talked about Arab and Muslims but even neighbors are
supposed to report anything that "appears" suspicious. Turning people against each other is not only
a reminder of the above mentioned historical events but it also leads to fear in a place where none is
needed.
The Act gives law enforcement the right to search any building or residence that might prove
suspect. It seems that such suspicion is easy to provoke making it likely that an innocent law abiding
citizen will find himself

Patriot Act
Public Law 107–56 otherwise known as the USA PATRIOT Act was signed into law by President
George W. Bush on October 26, 2001. USA PATRIOT Act is an acronym which stands for Uniting
and Strengthening America by Providing Appropriate Tools Required to Intercept and Obstruct
Terrorism Act. (justice.gov) This law was instated in response to the terrorist attacks on September
11, 2001. The Islamic terrorist group known as Al–Qaeda, coordinated four different plane
hijackings killing 2,996 people, and injuring 6,000+ others. (9/11 memorial.org) Just weeks after the
attacks congress rushed to pass this bill, passing the senate 98 to 1, and the house 357 to 66
(justice.gov), so that we can have more security controls within the United States. It gives the
United States government the same powers and tools used to investigate organized crime and drug
trafficking in decades prior, to investigate current suspected terrorist. The Patriot act has several
different titles that cover different grounds, all which have the same purpose of preventing future
acts of terrorism. The patriot act allows the government to track and intercept any form of electronic
communications of suspected terrorist in order to prevent any acts of terror, and also for intelligence
gathering. The act also aids the government in securing borders, and removing those that are here
with the intent to cause harm.

The Importance Of The Patriots
The reigning Patriots, maintaining the title undefeated for ten games in a row, were striped of the
honor by the Broncos on Sunday, November 29. The final ended with the Broncos breaking the tie
in overtime with a touchdown, winning by a score 30–24. On average, the Patriots have defeated
these opponents by 14 points. This one loss, however, strikes to be more significant to the players
and fans than the winnings themselves. At first, the Patriots started strong in the first quarter as
Wide Receiver Ron Gronkowski made a 23–yard touchdown. However, this action led the Broncos
to strengthen their defense only to be met with more losses as the safety and defensive lineman were
carted off with injuries. In the second quarter, Patriots

September 11, 2001 was one of the worst days in U.S. history. Many Muslim men hijacked planes
and crashed them into the world trade center buildings, and the pentagon killing almost 3,000
innocent people. After this incident, every Muslim was seen as a terrorist so the U.S government
enacted the patriot act, which gave more power to the federal law–enforcement and intelligence
gathering in suspected terrorist crimes. The patriot act gives the government power to do whatever
they want for "national security" and take away the civilians civil rights. The government can tap
into cell phones and listen in on conversations or even watch what people are searching on the
internet. Since the passing of the patriot act racial profiling has grown in the past years especially
towards Muslims. The patriot act may have seemed like a good idea at the time but in reality it just
gives the government a way to strip citizens of their rights, is unconstitutional, and it needs to be
removed. Once the patriot act was enacted racial and ethnic profiling spiked. Now Muslim men are
65% more likely to be stopped for "random searches" at transportation hubs such as airports.
According to Ibrahim Hooper, "American Muslims have already lost many their civil rights and All
Muslims are considered suspects" (Bork). The biggest sign of this is supposedly ethnic profiling that
is now occurring all over the country but mostly in airports but other places as well. "This form of

Movies are a brilliant way to immerse yourself into a wonderful story, full of well–developed,
interesting (well, there have been some exceptions) characters. People in the film industry work
hard to come up with a plot line that can draw in many viewers. There are not only movies that are
created as a work of fantasy, but also ones that are inspired by real events that has transpired. Many
have been based on historical events that we learned in history class. Yes, a movie might be able to
teach you a thing or two about the past. What better way to learn history, right? Unfortunately, the
ones making the film don't always portray the most accurate of content relating to history. It is a

The Battle of Camden was shown briefly; it was being observed from an abandoned house by
Benjamin and Gabriel when they left to join the war. Benjamin criticised on how Gates led his
troops. It was on August 16 when this battle took place. General Horatio Gates lost to Cornwallis's
army in the movie and in history. The final battle of the film was based on the Battle of Cowpens
and the Battle of Guilford Courthouse. The Battle of Guilford Courthouse has less similarities to the
end battle of the movie than the Battle of Cowpens. On January 16, 1781, Daniel Morgan took
charge of the militia at the Battle of Cowpens. Instead of Morgan in this battle, we have Benjamin
Martin taking the spotlight. Morgan knew that militia might try to retreat, so he made it to where
they cannot run. Behind him and the men was the Broad River, which cut off an escape route. This
made it so the militia would have to choose to fight or die. The battle in the movie did not show any
kind of river around the area. "Morgan put his rawest militiamen in the front line, backing them up
with seasoned men from Virginia and his veteran Continental troops" (Phillips). Even the British
pointed out in The Patriot how the militia was front and center of the troops. What the British didn't
know was that Morgan also had many more troops behind them. Each line of troops was spread
about 150 yards away from each other and had a larger number of troops who were more trained the
further it went back. Martin had a similar setup going on in the film. Martin and Morgan had the
ones on the frontlines to open fire at the last minute aiming for the officers. They would have to fire
two shots, then run back to the next line of troops. The British, in turn, would chase after them.
Then the next line would do the same thing and go to the back of the main line to form up together.

The two provisions that were struck down revolved around the 4th Amendment of unreasonable
search and seizures in regard to intelligence gathering. This ruling stems from a case where the
federal government arrested an attorney in the United States in connection with his alleged
involvement with the 2004 Madrid train bombings. The lawsuit stated that the FBI illegally and
secretly broke into both his home and office to gather evidence and were being protected under
provisions of the US Patriot Act.
Looking at an article titled How the Patriot Act Violates Virtually the Entire Bill of Rights written
by Hamilton, S in 2011. Hamilton takes a hard look at the Bill of Rights from the U.S. Constitution
as a whole and begins to bring parts of the US Patriot Act the violate the given amendment. Most of
the first ten amendments have at least one article or portion of the Patriot Act that clearly violates
the unalienable rights that American citizens were afforded at the time the U.S. Constitution was

The Declaration Of The Patriot Act
When we approach people in any country around the globe and ask questions as to who are
terrorists and the word terrorism which brought to the Unite States the birth of Patriot Act as well as
the controversy surrounding the Act as a whole, we will see that the patriot act went too far because
certain provisions seem to violate the constitutional rights of the citizens of this country.
First, I see terrorism as war and a terrorist in my view is a soldier going to war for certain purpose
and reason to destroy. If captured, they should be treated as prisoners of war. What comes to the
mind of terrorists is always war such as in military actions because they believe they have a cause to
fight for. They are not countries declaring war ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In his writing, he stated that war is intrinsically vast, communal (or political) and violent. It is an
actual, widespread and deliberate armed conflict between political communities, motivated by a
sharp disagreement over governance" (p.135)
Without terrorist, there will be no patriot act. Terrorists commit aggression; they have their own
armed forces. They have the capability of sending their soldiers to violate other citizen's rights by
kidnapping, causing atrocities and harm to innocent people. This is why they deserve to be punished
and made to suffer any consequences for their actions. They commit aggressions and only conduct
business by violence, especially against innocent civilians and creating fear to all nations. Thus, the
immediate federal response to the World Trade Center attack by some terrorist group was the
creation of the Patriot Act which contains the following contents with some to strengthen domestic
security and ethical issues. According to the U.S Department of justice.gov. "It stated that the

The Patriot ( 2000 )
The Patriot (2000) follows Benjamin Martin (Francis Marion) a widower with 7 children and
veteran of the French and Indian war. He is reluctant to join the fight against the British until
Colonel William Tavington (Lt. Colonel Banastre Tarleton) kills Benjamin's son and burns down his
house in South Carolina. Benjamin Martin leads his militia and attacks against the British with
guerilla warfare until the climax battle, where he takes revenge for his son and kills Colonel
William. What is wrong with The Patriot? It may have gotten the big picture, which was that the
British taxed the colonists unfairly and the colonists took action by forming a militia to win the war
through guerilla warfare, but that's one of the few things that are historically accurate about the film.
Important things that are historically accurate are the ambushes that Benjamin Gates took part in.
Attacking head to head was not an option because the British soldiers were obviously more
powerful so the militia used surprise attacks and ambushes to beat the British. Also the character
Colonel William Tavington, who was based off of the British soldier Lt. Colonel Banastre Tarleton,
was probably the most hated officer in the British army. His tactics were cowardly and evil because
he would shoot the enemy after they surrendered. The film did a great job at showing how menacing
Lt. Colonel Banastre Tarleton really was. Nevertheless, the film was mostly inaccurate and could be
considered an American version

Is The Patriot Movie Historically Accurate
Have you ever seen "The Patriot"? If you have do you know the truth behind it because some parts
really happened and some parts didn't. Meaning that "The Patriot" is somewhat historically accurate.
The Patriot is somewhat historically accurate because the main character Benjamin Martin was not a
real person he was based on Francis Marion, the Battle of Cowpens was exactly the same because
the colonist had extra help to fight off the British, and the surrender of Colonel Cornwallis was
somewhat alike because his army could not get around the French and the colonist in history and in
the movie. So "The Patriot" has many differences and similarities to history. First, according to the
Patriot Source Benjamin Martin was not even a real person. Martin was based off of Francis
Marion. In the movie Francis was depicted as someone who took care of his kids and made sure
they were safe and when troops were hurt and they landed on his plantation he took care of them
and bandage them up. In the movie Martin goes into the army after his two older sons to make ...

The Patriot Act : The Consequences Of The Patriot Act
Forty–five days after the September 11 terrorist attacks on the United States, Congress passed the
USA PATRIOT Act, also known as the "Uniting and Strengthening America by Providing
Appropriate Tools Required to Intercept and Obstruct Terrorism" Act, or more simply, the Patriot
Act. The Patriot Act was created with the noble intention of finding and prosecuting international
terrorists operating on American soil; however, the unfortunate consequences of the Act have been
drastic. Many of the Patriot Act's provisions are in clear violation of the U.S. Constitution–a
document drafted by wise men like Benjamin Franklin, James Madison, Alexander Hamilton, and
George Washington in order to protect American rights and freedoms. The Patriot Act encroaches on
sacred First Amendment rights, which protect free speech and expression, and Fourth Amendment
rights, which protect citizens against "unwarranted search and seizure" (Justice). The Patriot Act
authorizes unethical and unconstitutional surveillance of American citizens with a negligible
improvement in national security. Free speech, free thinking, and a free American lifestyle can not
survive in the climate of distrust and constant fear created by the Patriot Act. The great American
patriot Robert F. Kennedy once said in his famous "Day of Affirmation Address" that the first and
most critical element of "individual liberty is the freedom of speech; the right to express and
communicate ideas, to set oneself apart from the dumb

Martin, a veteran of the French and Indian War, thinks of himself as a battle–weary peacenik (his
eldest son joins the army against his wishes), but if he believes in liberating the colonies from the
tyranny of King George III, he believes even more fervently in smiting the holy bejesus out of the
soldiers who have torn his family apart. That these aristocratic oppressors happen to be the same
redcoats who are fighting to quash the American Revolution is, shall we say, a matter of the highest
moral convenience.
Written by Robert Rodat (''Saving Private Ryan'') and directed by the heavy–tromping blockbuster
maestro Roland Emmerich (''Independence Day,'' ''Godzilla''), ''The Patriot'' is set in fields, forests,
homes, and backwaters, and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
At first, the opposing armies, in their red and blue uniforms, line up in stately rows, absurdly
organized, like marching bands with muskets. As the guns crack and the soldiers fall, the battles
become a stately ritual of mass suicide. The revolutionary forces are the underdogs, ragged and
barely equipped. It's Martin who has the idea of uniting a militia to stage pinpoint ambushes in the
woods. Attacking by stealth, he becomes a fearsome legend, a ghost of a fighter. In one juicy scene,
he sneaks out of hiding for an impromptu negotiation with Lord General Cornwallis (Tom
Wilkinson), who leads the British troops in the South. Cornwallis is actually an honorable fellow,
and that's his problem. He approaches armed conflict like a gentleman; he believes in war as a
civilized assertion of Empire. What he can't wrap his mind around, because it has barely existed
before, is the notion of a soldier who fights as an individual, without rules.
As long as it stays on the battlefield, ''The Patriot'' is a brutishly compelling broad–canvas
entertainment. But the movie is also inflated with clichés from the screenwriter's manual. There's the
motley crew of loutish ''colorful'' proles who join Martin's militia, the squeaky–clean romance
between Martin's soldier son (Heath Ledger) and a local lass (Lisa Brenner), the vacuously noble
slave–turned–soldier (Jay Arlen Jones) who counts down the months before he's freed from
servitude, and, of

Supporting the Patriot Act will continue to be a great stepping stone towards terrorism as well as
other issues that have inflected the U.S. The Patriot Act was establish after the terrorist attack of
9/11 to ensure the security of U.S citizens. I have gather enough information to state that it will be a
beneficial decision to support the Patriot Act. First of all, the increase in security, has made it harder
for terrorist to plan and carry out attacks. This means that the implemented factors allowed by the
Patriot Act, have been working. Since the drastic event of 9/11, "[A]t least 30 planned terrorist

The Patriot Accuracy
Is The Patriot accurate or not? This is a controversial question. I think the movie is partially correct
because some events did happen and some were made up. Even some of the characters were made
up in this movie. This movie is somewhat accurate because some events were real and some were
made up, some characters were not real and some where real, and some of the settings are not true
and is true. This is exactly why "The Patriot" is somewhat accurate. First, this movie is somewhat
accurate because some events were real and some were made up. Like , the battle of cowpen did not
happen like that in the Revolutionary War, this is probably why the director left this battle unnamed.

The Patriot Movie Historical Accuracy
The Patriot The movie, The Patriot, was released in the year 2000. It is a drama/action film that
relates to the American Revolutionary War. Although the plot of the movie is fictional there are
many aspects that relate to what happened in the war, but some have discrepancies. The Patriot is
the story of a South Carolina plantation owner, Benjamin Martin, who is played by Mel Gibson. It is
more a story of a family during the war then the war itself. When all of the men from Charleston
gathered to the town meeting to discuss whether they should join the war effort and separate with
England or not, Martin speaks of taxation without representation, which in fact was a major factor in
the war. To me, this proves that the movie tried to be as factual to history as possible. Originally,

They had already lost their mother; he was all they had left. When William Tavington, a ruthless
British Colonel, kills one of his sons and takes another prisoner, he is left with no choice but to fight

was a heartless murderer. Martin uses guerilla warfare to stop the British from getting supplies and
attack outposts in order to slow General Charles Cornwallis from joining the British troops in the
North. Although the purpose of the movie is to entertain the audience, it can also be viewed as
history. It does follow historical events from the beginning of the Revolutionary War. However,
many details have been altered to create drama and action for the viewer's entertainment. One scene
in the movie that was created solely for the purpose of entertainment is when the British grouped
many colonists and locked them inside of a church that they then set on fire, burning them all alive.

The Importance Of The Patriot Act
After the attack on September 11, 2001, the United States implemented the Patriot Act. This new act
was signed by President George W. Bush on October 26, 2001, and brought about many changes to
make the United States strong by making changes that would help guard against terrorism.
The Patriot Act was implemented right after the September 11 occurrence. This act revised the
electronic surveillance which allows the administration to eavesdrop on anyone. Although Patriot
Act was rejected before the September 11 incidence, the legislative body overturned their decision
by the Bush Administration. Although some members of the committee did not have a chance to
review the Patriot Act, but it was voted in successfully and signed by President Bush. Before the
Patriot Act went into effect, surveillance was limited by the authorities (Surveillance Under the
USA/Patriot Act, 2017). As stated by Hall (2015), "The USA Patriot Act amended existing
surveillance statutes. When the Fourth Amendment and these statutes are viewed as a whole,
electronic and wire surveillance can be divided into four categories, each with a different level of
privacy protection" (p. 487). Previously, authorization was limited to only designate offences to
listen to discussions on the telephone; furthermore, there never a distinctive understanding if a
warrant or summons was mandatory in listen to voice messages. Even when any warrant was

By establishing these bills, we will save this nation from another September 11th. If we fail to act
upon our threats, we will be no different from other oppressed nations. Chief Justice Robert Jackson
says, "The Constitution is not a suicide pact. Failing to take strong measures to defend our nation

nation's efforts to fight back to defend freedom and liberty."
The ACLU has also influenced Congress to limit the sharing of information obtained through wire–
tapping. The Act has removed major barriers between communications of law enforcement,
intelligence and national defense communities from talking and coordinating their work, to
protecting the American people and national security. Senator John Edwards (D–NC) said about the
Patriot Act, "We cannot prevail in the battle against terrorism if the right hand of our government

In the wake of the terrorist attacks on September 11, 2001, Congress sprang into action. Within a
month, U.S. lawmakers overwhelmingly approved the USA Patriot Act of 2001, giving law
enforcement and intelligence agent's broader authority to fight terrorists operating in the United
States.
Signed into law by the President on October 26, the Patriot Act is designed to fight terrorism on
several fronts. First, it gives the U.S. government authority to hold foreigners suspected of terrorist
activity for up to seven days before charging them with a crime. The legislation also gives

the titles of books an individual has purchased or borrowed or the identity of individuals who have
purchased or borrowed certain books. The Patriot Act authorizes the use of devices to trace the
telephone calls or e–mails of people who are not suspected of any crime. American citizens and
permanent legal residents' investigated and sought information on the basis of activities protected by
the First Amendment.
The Patriot Act allows investigators to use the tools that were already available to investigate
organized crime and drug trafficking. Many of the tools the Act provides to law enforcement to fight
terrorism have been used for decades to fight organized crime and drug dealers, and have been
reviewed and approved by the courts.
This Act allows law enforcement to use surveillance against more crimes of terror. Before the
Patriot Act, courts could permit law enforcement to conduct electronic surveillance to investigate
many ordinary, non–terrorism crimes, such as drug crimes, mail fraud, and passport fraud. Agents
also could obtain wiretaps to investigate some, but not all, of the crimes that terrorists often commit.
The Act enabled investigators to gather information when looking into the full range of terrorism–
related crimes, including: chemical–weapons offenses, the use of weapons of mass destruction,
killing Americans abroad, and terrorism

The Patriot Movie Historically Accurate Analysis
The Realism of "The Patriot"
I think that the movie "The Patriot" was somewhat historically accurate. I think that it was
somewhat historically accurate because of Benjamin Martin, Colonel Tavington, and the Battle of
Cowpens. Also because some things that were demonstrated in the movie; are true facts. Some
things that happened in the movie are not, some things are fabricated by the producers of the movie.
So the movie cannot be completely historically inaccurate, and the movie cannot be completely
historically accurate. So I think that "The Patriot" was somewhat historically accurate.
The first reason that I think that "The Patriot" was somewhat historically accurate is because of the
man named Benjamin Martin. Benjamin Martin is based on a man named Francis Marion.

Patriot" Tavington had a bad relationship with Cornwallis, but history says that Tarleton considered
Cornwallis his mentor. Hollywood also says that Tavington/Tarleton was killed in battle and had a
face–to–face encounter with Martin and his sons. This cannot be historically correct because : 1.
Marion had no kids until after war. 2. Tarleton never actually had a face–to–face encounter with
Marion and his "Son". And 3. Tarleton was not killed in battle. I believe the director added this for a
happy ending. So the character of Tarleton was not captured

Despite the Cinderella Eagles offense, the Patriots are by far the better offense. On the other side of

the ability to bottle up their opponents with their stifling defense. The Pats comparatively have had
their fair share of struggles on the defensive end, but have managed to pick up the play. They are
second in tackles, first in sacks, and fourth in forced fumbles (ESPN). The Patriots have a great
front line, but the weakness of this defense is in their secondary. The Patriots have a solid defense,
but the Eagles all around have the best defense in this game. So far, the teams have been shown to

provision, which allows the government to conduct secret searches of anyone, including citizens,

civil liberties perspective, the surveillance expansion provisions within the Patriot Act are troubling
when considering the possibility of abuse, and the trouncing of fourth amendment rights. Another
troubling consequence of the Patriot Act and the expansion of surveillance powers is the use of

The New England Patriots have been thriving during this 2016 season without their star quarterback
Tom Brady, who has been suspended for the first four games of the season for "deflating footballs"

who has filled in his role admirably and led the Patriots to a 2–0 record. However, Garropolo

Brissett carried the Patriots to a commanding 27–0 victory over the Houston Texans. Garropolo and
Brissett are both the results of a system of finding potential and developing it, yet they were both

Issues With The Patriot Act

  • 1. Issues With The Patriot Act There are numerous issues with the US Patriot Act. It has forestalled numerous assaults on us from terrorists; however would you truly need to surrender such a great amount of opportunity by keeping in mind that the end goal has better control of terrorists. Numerous individuals would bolster the demonstration since it does offer more assurance against those assaults. Other be that as it may, would absolutely differ with the demonstration. The USA Patriot Act is really disregarding a large portion of our Constitution rights. The demonstration will permit the government rights to investigate your own life. In the event that the legislature has enough confirmation this demonstration will give the chance to investigate your own things, for example, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 2. The Declaration Of The Patriot Act We use technology every day, all day, for pretty much everything we do. Any information about ourselves, messages we send, or phone calls we make, it all takes place on our phones. However, they are also the biggest risk to our personal security as they are very vulnerable. They are not just vulnerable to scammers and hackers but also to our own government. Following the attacks of September 11, 2001, the president at the time, George Bush, responded by passing an act. This act is known as the Patriot Act. It allows the government unlimited access to phone records, emails, and text messages without a warrant through National Security Letters and Sneak and Peak Searches. Why do they do this, why was this act passed, they claim it's for our safety. Both can be obtained and carried out without a judge's approval, without a warrant, and without the knowledge of the person who is being searched. The Fourth Amendment is the right of the citizens to legal and just searches, with a warrant, with probable cause. These are not required under the Patriot Act to search through call histories and messages. The Patriot Act clearly infringes on the Fourth Amendment and the rights of the everyday citizen and does not accomplish its original goal of stopping terrorism. The great American patriot Robert F. Kennedy once said in his famous "Day of Affirmation Address" that the first and most critical element of "individual liberty is the freedom of speech; the right to express and communicate ... • 3. The US Patriot Act Introduction Americans have always held the rights and liberties close to their hearts. Ever since we became an independent nation. After the tragic events that happened on September 11th, 2001, Citizens of America began to ponder if some of their rights and liberties should be sacrificed to prevent such an attack in the future. National unity took over the country and Americans bonded and held each other up. They stood up in the face of terrorism and the Presidents approval rating soared through the roof (from 54% to nearly a whooping 86% which is the highest level it has ever been). Sadly, the American public rallied behind the Government and provided support for an Act that will come to violate their freedoms that they cherish so much. Congress drafted the US Patriot Act in only 45 days (which leads some to believe that it was already pre–made and was just a combination of a "wish–list" that the FBI had and was waiting for the right time to implement). Still filled with a sense of national pride and deeply scarred by the terrorist attacks which occurred on September 11th, 2001, americans accepted the Act to blatantly avoid being labeled unpatriotic in the eyes of their peers and government. Still, in the face of being labeled "unpatriotic", many thousands of open minded individuals who saw what this Act could in the future openly question the Government though their cries where heard by mute ears. When the House sent the US Patriot Act to the Senate for approval in 2001, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Compare the movie "The Patriot" with Historical Reality? Movies are made to be sold and not history to be perfectly told. If movies include a complete history, it wouldn't be known as a movie anymore. However, it would be called a documentary, which most people get fed up of. So interpretations, exaggerations and idealistic scenes are added to the movie to make it more interesting for the audience. "The Patriot" is a similar film made during the modern day time about a time period in which none of the experienced the real revolution. Politically, socially, and culturally, "The Patriot" attempts to give a sense of the scope of aspects involved in the American Revolution. Despite succeeding in this regard, it still lacks details that reveal the true complexity of the mixed sentiments present in ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... They were also very organized in battle as shown in the movie, and that's why they didn't know how to deal with militia men. However, the brutality wasn't as much as shown in some parts of the movie. It is done to show the evilness of the British and so when the patriots killed any British, it seemed that they are taking revenge and so the brutal actions of the patriots were acceptable. In one scene, the British regulars order the execution of a colonial soldier captured in uniform. In fact, such war crimes by regular troops rarely happened. In the most incongruous scene, the people of the entire town are locked in a church which is then set on fire. It is very hard to believe that any British soldier would actually burn a church, because mostly everyone at that particular time was either Puritanical or Catholic. To desecrate such a sacred ground would be tantamount to sin; something that a British general would never order, nor would his soldiers follow, even if the order was given. As historian Thomas Fleming puts it: 'Of course it never happened. If it had, do you think Americans would have forgotten it? It could have kept us out of World War I' (Online). The events that people were exposed to in the film, were extremely violent, not to mention, only one side of the story is given. The colonists on the other hand were no more humane than the British, even though in the movie it tries to show that they were working on becoming more humane. This assumption comes ... • 5. The Patriot Act Essay After 911 attacks on the World Trade Center, Congress passed a new law: "The Patriot Act" which has accomplished exactly what it was designed to do," Bush said. "It has helped detect terror cells, disrupt terrorist plots and save American lives." The five main provisions that took place in 2006 while Bush was President are: (1) telephone taps, internet taps and voice mails – which allow the government to tap these devises – with a court order. All telephones used by the individual/suspect may be tapped without a separate order from the court for each devise in question. The government is also able to seize voice mail/messages that are in question as being evidence. This is something to keep in mind: At least 25 police departments own a Stingray, a ... (4) The government now has the power to track money that they suspect as being "laundered money" across one border to another or from bank–to– bank. In 2013, The Treasury Department took action in arresting The Liberty Reserve, as a money laundering organization, using powers under the Patriot Act to effectively cut the company off from the U.S. financial system. The executives faced charges for laundering $6 Billion dollars in cyber money. (5) The Patriot Act provisions – allow for an increase in penalty for any/all terrorist crime with the statue of limitations eliminated. The key to the Patriot Act is empowering the government to do the right things – while exercising oversight to prevent any abuse of authority. As long as lawmakers keep a vigilant eye on police authority, the federal courts remains open, and the debate about governmental conduct is a vibrant part of the American dialogue, the risk of excessive encroachment on our fundamental liberties is ... • 6. Patriot Act Essay Patriot Act The 9/11 terrorist attacks caused a great panic in the United States. They threatened the safety of everyone as a nation. On September 11th, 2001 19 men associated with the Islamic extremist group named al–Qaeda, hijacked four airplanes and they carried out suicide attacks against the United States. Two of the airplanes were flown into both towers of the World Trade Center in New York City, the third airplane hit the Pentagon just outside of Washington, D.C., and the fourth airplane crashed in a field in Pennsylvania. More than 3,000 innocent people lost their lives that day (Soma). The Patriot Act is a U.S. law passed because of the September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks. The goals of the Patriot Act are to strengthen national security and broaden the powers of law–enforcement agencies with regards to identifying and stopping terrorists (Justice). The passing and renewal of the Patriot Act has been extremely controversial. Supporters claim that it's been helpful in several investigations and arrests of terrorists, while others argue the act gives the government too much power, threatens civil liberties and weakens the very democracy it seeks to protect (Smith). I believe the patriot act is an invasion of privacy and it belittles our fourth amendment. Title one of the patriot act authorizes federal money to accomplish much of the act's necessities and authorizes the Secret Service to create a nationwide electronic crime task force. • 7. Is The Patriot Movie Historically Accurate The movie "The Patriot" starring Mel Gibson was an excellent film that was produced in 2000. In the movie " The Patriot" it portrayed the life of Patriots fighting for freedom , the life of their families, and the colonies. But many say that this movie is not historically accurate at all. Benjamin Martin isn't a real person, The battle didn't end in South Carolina it ended in Saratoga New Jersey. " The Patriot" has its moments of being historically inaccurate and accurate. On my honest opinion "The Patriot" is historically accurate and in these 4 paragraphs I'll tell you why. First, with Benjamin Martin. tTo first start the guy isn't real he some made up man that the director Ronald Emmerich fools you to believe this man help us become the big 50 states. Well you might be thinking well this movie is supposed to help us learn about history not make it up, well you are correct but Benjamin Martin symbolizes many of the people who does help build the big 50 states . To be exact Benjamin Martin exactly could represent Andrew Pickens according to The Patriot Film Fact Or Fiction : People Andrew Pickens was a militia soldier with a large family and a strict Presbyterian. The Patriot is a 2000 American historical fiction war film directed by Roland Emmerich, written by Robert Rodat, and starring Mel Gibson, Chris Cooper and Heath Ledger. The film takes place during the real–life events of the Southern theater of the American Revolutionary War. In the summer of 1781, after six years of war, the American Army was struggling. The British occupied New York City. The movie The Patriot is somewhat historically accurate. In The Patriot Movie Benjamin Martin a veteran of the French and Indian War and widower with seven children is called to Charleston to vote in the South Carolina General. In the movie Benjamin does what he can to avoid fighting in the Revolutionary War. When his oldest son Gabriel joins the Patriots and his second born son Thomas is killed, he takes it upon himself to join and fight with the colonial militia. The Patriot Act And The Patriot Act The Uniting and Strengthening America by Providing Appropriate Tools Required toIntercept and Obstruct Terrorism Act, more commonly known as the USA PATRIOT Act, or simply the Patriot Act was signed into law on October 26, 2001, 45 days after the terrorist attackson September 11 th . At the signing of the Patriot Act in 2001, President George W. Bush said thatthe act would provide "important new tools to fight a present danger" (Gerdes). Since then, thePatriot Act and the "important new tools" it authorizes have been subjects of intense controversy. The debate over what the Patriot Act actually allows law enforcement officials to do, however, centers on the balance of national security and protection of civil liberties in legislation. In the United States, civil liberties are the rights individuals have that are free frominterference from the government or others; they include the rights listed in the Bill of Rights aswell as those protected by state or local laws (Boaz). Also, the Ninth Article of The Bill of Rightsstates that "the enumeration...of certain rights, shall not be construed to deny or disparage othersretained by the people", so rights concerning privacy and "others retained by the people" can beincluded under the label of civil liberties. In the past, civil liberties have been challenged andsuspended in times of war. The Patriot Act contains provisions that bring up the issue of civilliberties during wartime. Planes were hijacked and flown into the World Trade Center in New York. Over three thousand people were killed and the impregnable nation known as America was know scared and vulnerable. Almost immediately the legislature began drafting an act that would make the war on terror and the fight for homeland security a little easier to fight, this would come to be known as the Patriot Act "PATRIOT" is an acronym for "Uniting and Strengthening America by providing Appropriate Tools Required to Intercept and Obstruct Terrorism. Immigrants, especially of Arab origin and those with Islam as their religion are seen as terrorists. This is blatant racism and discrimination which is also completely against what this country stands for. Also concerned is the American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU). This is an organization that is dedicated to raising awareness of civil liberties. The PATRIOT Act, as the name suggests is supposed to protect the citizens of the country from attacks across its borders. It defeats its own purpose in attacking from within the very people it's supposed to protect. In fact, it does almost the opposite by provoking a fear and paranoia that tends to remind us of such wonderful events like the Spanish inquisition or the Salem Witch Trials. The ACLU talks about several groups that are unfairly targeted by the Act to the extent that the constitution is being violated. I have already talked about Arab and Muslims but even neighbors are supposed to report anything that "appears" suspicious. Turning people against each other is not only a reminder of the above mentioned historical events but it also leads to fear in a place where none is needed. The Act gives law enforcement the right to search any building or residence that might prove suspect. It seems that such suspicion is easy to provoke making it likely that an innocent law abiding citizen will find himself ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The Patriot Act And The Patriot Act Michael Barrios Dr. Barrett U.S. Government October 4, 2017 Patriot Act Public Law 107–56 otherwise known as the USA PATRIOT Act was signed into law by President George W. Bush on October 26, 2001. USA PATRIOT Act is an acronym which stands for Uniting and Strengthening America by Providing Appropriate Tools Required to Intercept and Obstruct Terrorism Act. (justice.gov) This law was instated in response to the terrorist attacks on September 11, 2001. The Islamic terrorist group known as Al–Qaeda, coordinated four different plane hijackings killing 2,996 people, and injuring 6,000+ others. (9/11 memorial.org) Just weeks after the attacks congress rushed to pass this bill, passing the senate 98 to 1, and the house 357 to 66 (justice.gov), so that we can have more security controls within the United States. It gives the United States government the same powers and tools used to investigate organized crime and drug trafficking in decades prior, to investigate current suspected terrorist. The Patriot act has several different titles that cover different grounds, all which have the same purpose of preventing future acts of terrorism. The patriot act allows the government to track and intercept any form of electronic communications of suspected terrorist in order to prevent any acts of terror, and also for intelligence gathering. The act also aids the government in securing borders, and removing those that are here with the intent to cause harm. Senator Tom Cotton is a ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The final ended with the Broncos breaking the tie in overtime with a touchdown, winning by a score 30–24. On average, the Patriots have defeated these opponents by 14 points. This one loss, however, strikes to be more significant to the players and fans than the winnings themselves. At first, the Patriots started strong in the first quarter as Wide Receiver Ron Gronkowski made a 23–yard touchdown. However, this action led the Broncos to strengthen their defense only to be met with more losses as the safety and defensive lineman were carted off with injuries. In the second quarter, Patriots ... • 13. The Patriot Act Essay September 11, 2001 was one of the worst days in U.S. history. Many Muslim men hijacked planes and crashed them into the world trade center buildings, and the pentagon killing almost 3,000 innocent people. After this incident, every Muslim was seen as a terrorist so the U.S government enacted the patriot act, which gave more power to the federal law–enforcement and intelligence gathering in suspected terrorist crimes. The patriot act gives the government power to do whatever they want for "national security" and take away the civilians civil rights. The government can tap into cell phones and listen in on conversations or even watch what people are searching on the internet. Since the passing of the patriot act racial profiling has grown in the past years especially towards Muslims. The patriot act may have seemed like a good idea at the time but in reality it just gives the government a way to strip citizens of their rights, is unconstitutional, and it needs to be removed. Once the patriot act was enacted racial and ethnic profiling spiked. Now Muslim men are 65% more likely to be stopped for "random searches" at transportation hubs such as airports. According to Ibrahim Hooper, "American Muslims have already lost many their civil rights and All Muslims are considered suspects" (Bork). The biggest sign of this is supposedly ethnic profiling that is now occurring all over the country but mostly in airports but other places as well. "This form of discrimination is felt to be ... Overall in the movie , scenes / events did occur that similarly happened in history and on the other hand other events were not historically accurate. Benjamin was tasked with keeping the Lord Cornwallis's regiments pinned south through guerilla warfare. People in the film industry work hard to come up with a plot line that can draw in many viewers. Benjamin criticised on how Gates led his troops. It was on August 16 when this battle took place. General Horatio Gates lost to Cornwallis's army in the movie and in history. The final battle of the film was based on the Battle of Cowpens and the Battle of Guilford Courthouse. The Battle of Guilford Courthouse has less similarities to the end battle of the movie than the Battle of Cowpens. On January 16, 1781, Daniel Morgan took charge of the militia at the Battle of Cowpens. Instead of Morgan in this battle, we have Benjamin Martin taking the spotlight. Morgan knew that militia might try to retreat, so he made it to where they cannot run. Behind him and the men was the Broad River, which cut off an escape route. This made it so the militia would have to choose to fight or die. The battle in the movie did not show any kind of river around the area. "Morgan put his rawest militiamen in the front line, backing them up with seasoned men from Virginia and his veteran Continental troops" (Phillips). Even the British pointed out in The Patriot how the militia was front and center of the troops. What the British didn't know was that Morgan also had many more troops behind them. Each line of troops was spread about 150 yards away from each other and had a larger number of troops who were more trained the further it went back. Martin had a similar setup going on in the film. Martin and Morgan had the ones on the frontlines to open fire at the last minute aiming for the officers. They would have to fire two shots, then run back to the next line of troops. The British, in turn, would chase after them. Then the next line would do the same thing and go to the back of the main line to form up together. Tarleton's ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The Declaration Of The Patriot Act When we approach people in any country around the globe and ask questions as to who are terrorists and the word terrorism which brought to the Unite States the birth of Patriot Act as well as the controversy surrounding the Act as a whole, we will see that the patriot act went too far because certain provisions seem to violate the constitutional rights of the citizens of this country. First, I see terrorism as war and a terrorist in my view is a soldier going to war for certain purpose and reason to destroy. If captured, they should be treated as prisoners of war. What comes to the mind of terrorists is always war such as in military actions because they believe they have a cause to fight for. They are not countries declaring war ... • 19. The Patriot ( 2000 ) The Patriot (2000) follows Benjamin Martin (Francis Marion) a widower with 7 children and veteran of the French and Indian war. He is reluctant to join the fight against the British until Colonel William Tavington (Lt. Colonel Banastre Tarleton) kills Benjamin's son and burns down his house in South Carolina. Benjamin Martin leads his militia and attacks against the British with guerilla warfare until the climax battle, where he takes revenge for his son and kills Colonel William. What is wrong with The Patriot? It may have gotten the big picture, which was that the British taxed the colonists unfairly and the colonists took action by forming a militia to win the war through guerilla warfare, but that's one of the few things that are historically accurate about the film. Important things that are historically accurate are the ambushes that Benjamin Gates took part in. Attacking head to head was not an option because the British soldiers were obviously more powerful so the militia used surprise attacks and ambushes to beat the British. Also the character Colonel William Tavington, who was based off of the British soldier Lt. Colonel Banastre Tarleton, was probably the most hated officer in the British army. His tactics were cowardly and evil because he would shoot the enemy after they surrendered. The film did a great job at showing how menacing Lt. Colonel Banastre Tarleton really was. Meaning that "The Patriot" is somewhat historically accurate. The Patriot is somewhat historically accurate because the main character Benjamin Martin was not a real person he was based on Francis Marion, the Battle of Cowpens was exactly the same because the colonist had extra help to fight off the British, and the surrender of Colonel Cornwallis was somewhat alike because his army could not get around the French and the colonist in history and in the movie. So "The Patriot" has many differences and similarities to history. First, according to the Patriot Source Benjamin Martin was not even a real person. Martin was based off of Francis Marion. The Patriot Act : The Consequences Of The Patriot Act Forty–five days after the September 11 terrorist attacks on the United States, Congress passed the USA PATRIOT Act, also known as the "Uniting and Strengthening America by Providing Appropriate Tools Required to Intercept and Obstruct Terrorism" Act, or more simply, the Patriot Act. The Patriot Act was created with the noble intention of finding and prosecuting international terrorists operating on American soil; however, the unfortunate consequences of the Act have been drastic. Many of the Patriot Act's provisions are in clear violation of the U.S. Constitution–a document drafted by wise men like Benjamin Franklin, James Madison, Alexander Hamilton, and George Washington in order to protect American rights and freedoms. The Patriot Act encroaches on sacred First Amendment rights, which protect free speech and expression, and Fourth Amendment rights, which protect citizens against "unwarranted search and seizure" (Justice). The Patriot Act authorizes unethical and unconstitutional surveillance of American citizens with a negligible improvement in national security. Free speech, free thinking, and a free American lifestyle can not survive in the climate of distrust and constant fear created by the Patriot Act. The great American patriot Robert F. Kennedy once said in his famous "Day of Affirmation Address" that the first and most critical element of "individual liberty is the freedom of speech; the right to express and communicate ideas, to set oneself apart from the dumb ... Patriot Essay Martin, a veteran of the French and Indian War, thinks of himself as a battle–weary peacenik (his eldest son joins the army against his wishes), but if he believes in liberating the colonies from the tyranny of King George III, he believes even more fervently in smiting the holy bejesus out of the soldiers who have torn his family apart. That these aristocratic oppressors happen to be the same redcoats who are fighting to quash the American Revolution is, shall we say, a matter of the highest moral convenience. As the guns crack and the soldiers fall, the battles become a stately ritual of mass suicide. The revolutionary forces are the underdogs, ragged and barely equipped. It's Martin who has the idea of uniting a militia to stage pinpoint ambushes in the woods. Attacking by stealth, he becomes a fearsome legend, a ghost of a fighter. In one juicy scene, he sneaks out of hiding for an impromptu negotiation with Lord General Cornwallis (Tom Wilkinson), who leads the British troops in the South. Cornwallis is actually an honorable fellow, and that's his problem. He approaches armed conflict like a gentleman; he believes in war as a civilized assertion of Empire. What he can't wrap his mind around, because it has barely existed before, is the notion of a soldier who fights as an individual, without rules. As long as it stays on the battlefield, ''The Patriot'' is a brutishly compelling broad–canvas entertainment. But the movie is also inflated with clichés from the screenwriter's manual. There's the motley crew of loutish ''colorful'' proles who join Martin's militia, the squeaky–clean romance between Martin's soldier son (Heath Ledger) and a local lass (Lisa Brenner), the vacuously noble slave–turned–soldier (Jay Arlen Jones) who counts down the months before he's freed from servitude, and, of ... Although the plot of the movie is fictional there are many aspects that relate to what happened in the war, but some have discrepancies. The Patriot is the story of a South Carolina plantation owner, Benjamin Martin, who is played by Mel Gibson. It is more a story of a family during the war then the war itself. When all of the men from Charleston gathered to the town meeting to discuss whether they should join the war effort and separate with England or not, Martin speaks of taxation without representation, which in fact was a major factor in the war. Within a month, U.S. lawmakers overwhelmingly approved the USA Patriot Act of 2001, giving law enforcement and intelligence agent's broader authority to fight terrorists operating in the United States. Signed into law by the President on October 26, the Patriot Act is designed to fight terrorism on several fronts. The Patriot Act allows investigators to use the tools that were already available to investigate organized crime and drug trafficking. Many of the tools the Act provides to law enforcement to fight terrorism have been used for decades to fight organized crime and drug dealers, and have been reviewed and approved by the courts. This Act allows law enforcement to use surveillance against more crimes of terror. Before the Patriot Act, courts could permit law enforcement to conduct electronic surveillance to investigate many ordinary, non–terrorism crimes, such as drug crimes, mail fraud, and passport fraud. Agents also could obtain wiretaps to investigate some, but not all, of the crimes that terrorists often commit. The Act enabled investigators to gather information when looking into the full range of terrorism– related crimes, including: chemical–weapons offenses, the use of weapons of mass destruction, killing Americans abroad, and terrorism ... • 32. The Patriot Movie Historically Accurate Analysis The Realism of "The Patriot" I think that the movie "The Patriot" was somewhat historically accurate. I think that it was somewhat historically accurate because of Benjamin Martin, Colonel Tavington, and the Battle of Cowpens. Also because some things that were demonstrated in the movie; are true facts. Some things that happened in the movie are not, some things are fabricated by the producers of the movie. So the movie cannot be completely historically inaccurate, and the movie cannot be completely historically accurate. So I think that "The Patriot" was somewhat historically accurate. The first reason that I think that "The Patriot" was somewhat historically accurate is because of the man named Benjamin Martin. Benjamin Martin is based on a man named Francis Marion. William Tavington is based on a man named Banastre Tarleton. Also according to 'patriotresource.com', Hollywood is correct about the fact that Tarleton/Tavington being tories. They are also correct about Tarleton/Tavington being sent by Cornwallis to fetch Martin/Marion, and not accomplishing the task. Hollywood was wrong about some things though. According to "The Patriot" Tavington had a bad relationship with Cornwallis, but history says that Tarleton considered Cornwallis his mentor. Hollywood also says that Tavington/Tarleton was killed in battle and had a face–to–face encounter with Martin and his sons. This cannot be historically correct because : 1. Marion had no kids until after war. 2. Tarleton never actually had a face–to–face encounter with Marion and his "Son". And 3. Tarleton was not killed in battle. I believe the director added this for a happy ending. So the character of Tarleton was not captured ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 33. Write An Essay On Patriots The Super Bowl is the biggest game of the year. This year's game will be an amazing one. The Eagles will face the Patriots in a rematch of the Super Bowl 13 years ago. The Patriots are the favorite of most, but the Eagles, after a breakout season, are going to give the defending champs all they can handle. Here's why: Is there really much to say about the Patriots offense? They are the leaders in offensive yards and the second highest scoring offense of the year (ESPN). They are led by the transcendent quarterback Tom Brady and exemplary offensive mind Bill Belichick. On the other side, the Eagles are led by Nick Foles and Doug Pederson. The Eagles are third in passing yards, fourth in rushing yards, and fourth in points in the postseason (ESPN). ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Despite the Cinderella Eagles offense, the Patriots are by far the better offense. On the other side of the ball, the Eagles' defense is their real strength. They are fourth in sacks, second in interceptions, and third in fumble recoveries (ESPN). But these stats do not tell the whole story. The Eagles have the ability to bottle up their opponents with their stifling defense. The Pats comparatively have had their fair share of struggles on the defensive end, but have managed to pick up the play. They are second in tackles, first in sacks, and fourth in forced fumbles (ESPN). The Patriots have a great front line, but the weakness of this defense is in their secondary. The Patriots have a solid defense, but the Eagles all around have the best defense in this game. So far, the teams have been shown to be very evenly matched. The Pats offense matching up with the Eagles defense will balance out their advantages. This game might come down to the play of their special teams. The Eagles have a solid unit as ... On a smaller scale, would you oversee the safety and well being of a sibling, a family member, a neighbor? Even if it meant, checking up on them from time to time. The Patriot Act may seem invasive, but at the end of the day could save hundreds of innocent lives, including yourself and your family. On a larger scale, the government has the responsibility to protect its people from foreign and domestic terrorism. • 35. Essay on The Patriot The Patriot, written by Robert Rodat, takes place in South Carolina and reveals a widowed father's love for his family and trying to keep them together, despite the Revolutionary War that had begun. Trying to keep his demons from reappearing, Benjamin Martin faces his fear of his past coming back to haunt him after serving in the French and Indian War. Martin is a South Carolina farmer who lost his wife, Elizabeth, and reluctantly signs up to join the Continental Army after his eldest son, Gabriel joined the regulars to fight against the British. After a battle began on Martin's plantation, Benjamin helped wounded soldiers from both sides and was approached by William Tavington, a colonel with the British. During this confrontation ... Between Gabriel's dedication to the cause and Benjamin Martin's military experience, the dedication of the men fighting, the cause of freedom was fought on all fronts. However, during the fights, many men were lost, including another of Benjamin Martin's sons, Gabriel. After Gabriel's death, Martin's fears were solidified and vowed not to fight for anyone's causes. However, he realized that being a true patriot was the only way to honor his son's deaths, so he fought for the cause of freedom and was truly victorious in his fights. While The Patriot was a very successful major motion picture, characters from the movie actually mirror those of characters that were indeed real. Colonel Tavington's character is based on the life of Lt. Col. Banastre Tarleton the subordinate of Lt. General Charles Earl Cornwallis of the British Army. Benjamin Martin's character was based on Francis Marion (which is also now a famous hotel in historic downtown Charleston), also known as "Swamp Fox" fought Indians. In the years since the passing of the Patriot Act, there has been much controversy and debate regarding the positive and negative advantages, and consequences of this bill. Along with this expansion of surveillance powers is the "sneak and peek provision" (The USA–PATRIOT Act and the American response to terror; panel discussion, 2002). During a discussion panel in 2002, David E. Suchar discussed this provision stating the "sneak and peek provision, which allows the government to conduct secret searches of anyone, including citizens, without notifying the person that they have a search warrant and that the search is authorized". Suchar further stated this provision is "a very broad standard that probably could be met in a tremendous number of cases and not limited to fighting terrorism in any way, shape, or form" (The USA–PATRIOT Act and the American response to terror; panel discussion, 2002, para. 18). From a civil liberties perspective, the surveillance expansion provisions within the Patriot Act are troubling when considering the possibility of abuse, and the trouncing of fourth amendment rights. Another troubling consequence of the Patriot Act and the expansion of surveillance powers is the use of profiling. In order to efficiently gather intelligence information for the safety of this country, it would be common sense to develop a target of sorts to better focus the efforts made. Many believe that Muslims in this country have become the unfortunate targets of profiling. With its new granted power the federal government has busted more than 20 suspected al Qaeda, convicted 100 other individuals for terror–related crimes and since the September 11 attacks, has prevented a further mass terrorist attack on our homeland. • 38. Analysis: The Secret To The Patriots "The Secret to the Patriots' success, DEFENSE?" The New England Patriots have been thriving during this 2016 season without their star quarterback Tom Brady, who has been suspended for the first four games of the season for "deflating footballs" in a 'scandal' called Deflategate. The Patriots have had to rely on back–up QB Jimmy Garropolo, who has filled in his role admirably and led the Patriots to a 2–0 record. However, Garropolo suffered an AC joint sprain in his throwing shoulder during Week 2's game against the Miami Dolphins, and third–stringer Jacoby Brissett became the Patriots' new starting QB. In Week 3, Brissett carried the Patriots to a commanding 27–0 victory over the Houston Texans. Garropolo and Brissett are both the results of a system of finding potential and developing it, yet they were both helped by a consistent defense that has held the opponent and kept the Patriots in a game.
