Week 1 Sociology Notes
Week One Assignment Chapter One The Sociological Perspective The sociological perspective provides a specific view of the world. Briefly
describe this perspective and the assumptions this perspective is based on. The sociological perspective puts emphasis on the social context in
which people live in and how these contexts influence their lives. At the center of this perspective is the question of how groups influence people,
especially how people are influence by their society. Sociologists will look at how income, jobs, education, gender. age. and race affect people's ideas
and behavior. Summarize the main points of Karl Marx's theory of class conflict. Karl Marx's class conflict theory states that the bourgeoisie (or the...

At this point children understand numbers, causation, and speed. They are able to play other roles and to play with others on teams. Lastly, there
is the formal operational stage (after the age of about 12). At this point they can come to conclusions, and use rules to solve problems. This is
where children can become young philosophers. Explain how society channels our behavior through gender socialization. Gender socialization
has a lot to do with how we act and grow. As children, we learn what is expected of us within our gender roles, and from there we are nudged into
different lanes of life. As we grow older, most of us act, think, and sometimes even feel depending on these gender maps that society has built for
us. Our parents are the first role models for gender differences that we see. They teach us so much about our gender orientations without even
realizing it. For example, a study done on the way mothers encourage differences in gender orientation, showed that mothers subconsciously reward
daughter for being passive and dependent, while they reward sons for being active and independent. Peers reinforce many of the ideas about gender
orientation that is exposed to us through our family and society. The peer group, individuals of roughly the same age who are linked by common
interests, play the most powerful role in a persons gender socialization. As you grow up, naturally a peer group of girls focuses on looks and

Should Sports Clubs Be Banned?
Introduction With the number of individuals not joining sports clubs continues to grow, especially amongst the teenage and adult demographics
since it's no longer enforced. In addition to that, countless people drop out of sports rendering them less active has become an important issue. The
hscic (Health and Social care Information Centre) found that in 2012 less than a quarter of men (24%) and women (25%) were obese, and 42% of
men and 32% of women were overweight. In comparison 32% of men and 41% of women had a BMI in the normal range. Figure 1 represents Body
Max Index status (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Body_mass_index) With countless of people turning to TV, computer/video games, their behaviour
towards sports would change and become complex. The reason behind this are that people may have small amount of time, energy, be uncomfortable
joining or belong in a societal group that participate in sports clubs. Websites can give huge advantage in credibility and exposure. The number one
place for someone that is looking for your business is to create your very own website. A website allows the opportunity for visitors to gain
experience. What is more, this means that it can be more effectual at presenting information that they've been looking for. Outline At most, people tend
to shy away and feel too excluded from joining sports clubs, mainly because they: пЃ¶Can't afford it пЃ¶May find difficult travelling to the club

A Research Proposal On Consumer Loyalty
Research Proposal The guideline plan of this exploration paper is to show the significance of consumer loyalty in the Door Supervisor. The Door
Supervisor being the exceedingly aggressive field that it is, having the capacity to satisfy client desires and requests turns into the most key
component keeping in mind the end goal to get supportable development and net revenue (Bateson, 1991). This examination paper will attempt to
think about and investigate the measures taken up by the Door Supervisor in U.K to satisfy the needs of its customers. It would likewise set up the
part consumer loyalty plays in the accomplishment of Door Supervisor. In spite of the fact that already a considerable measure of examination has
been directed in this field this exploration would build the learning about the significance of consumer loyalty in the development of the business.
Title: The Role of Door Supervisor and its effects on Customer satisfaction in UK. Background and Rationale (Grönroos 2000, 3), this study was
chosen to be completed following one year of the creator 's working involvement in Door Supervisor. As the developing enthusiasm of the Door
Supervisor generation among Door Supervisor clients is exceptionally serious, the thought to make administration nature of consumer loyalty

Difference Between A Pert And Gantt Chart
Compare and contrast the information that one receives from a Gantt chart, versus that of a PERT diagram A significant piece of project management
is organization. Both Pert and Gantt charts are essential tools that are utilized by project managers in creating a project schedule. Both types of charts
offer tools for managers to examine projects through visualization, helping divide responsibilities into controllable parts. An important difference
between a PERT chart and a Gantt chart is the way the information is presented. Gantt charts display information in the design of a bar chart. This
representation helps show the percentage of work accomplished for each task. On the other hand, PERT shows data as a network model. Meaning
that a PERT chart displays an earlier node from which tasks branch out. This helps project managers envision the arrangement of tasks. Together
PERT and Gantt charts will show the tasks to be accomplished, but the charts highlight dissimilar parts. A Gantt chart's primary focus is on the ratio
completion of each task, without indicating the connection that two tasks may have to each other. While PERT typically does not show the
percentage completed, PERT employs a network model, which makes it is easy to see which tasks depend on each other, it typically does not show
the percentage of completed tasks. Examine the advantages of using a Gantt chart over a PERT chart and vice versa. Determine when it is appropriate

Spark RDD follows the concept of coarsely grained operation which means the operation is applied within the dataset for all the elements. By
transforming existing RDD or reading data from HDFS RDD's created. Readable data from stable storage can only create RDD. HDFS and existing
transformed data in RDD are a good example of this. Example : firstRDD=spark.textFile("hdfs://...") secondRDD=firstRDD.filter(someFunction); 4.
What is the meaning of a "lazy evaluation" and what are its benefits? Ans: Lazy evaluation in Spark means that the execution will not start until an
action is triggered. It occurs only when spark transformation occurs i.e spark transformation gives the picture of lazy evaluation. Advantages : i.The
user can organize their program into smaller programs which helps better maintaining the code. ii. Time and space complexity issues are addressed as
not each and every execution is operated which saves time. The lazy evaluation also works with the infinite data structure. The action is voluntary as it
triggers depends on the requirements. It provides performance optimization by reducing the number of queries. 5. What are transformations and
actions? Give examples of some transformations and actions. Ans: Transformations: Transformation is the functions which provide new RDD.These
RDDs created from the existing RDDs.

Response: Doing Fieldwork Among the Yanomamo
Doing Fieldwork among the Yanomamo: Response Shaki, or Napoleon A. Chagnon's 15 month enculturation with the Yanomamo tribe, Bisaasi
–teri is
characterized by fear, discomfort, loneliness, nosiness, and invaluable experiences through relationships and modesty about human culture. Chagnon
documents the experience through the struggle and discovery surrounding his proposed research, as his lifestyle gradually comes in sync with the
natural functions of his community. Much of his focus and time was consumed by identification of genealogical records, and the establishment of
informants and methods of trustworthy divulgence. Marriage, sex, and often resulting violence are the foremost driving forces within Yanomamo, and

This became a tool which rivaled Chagnon's incessant pestering about their lineage, which discussion proved to be a strict cultural stigma. Chagnon
did well to manipulate their desires to extract necessary information. It is difficult to judge the ethicality of doing so, based on no knowledge of what
was done with the genealogical data after collected. This is a breakdown where the AAA (American Anthropological Association) might see an
opportunity for ethical issues concerning the method of information attained. It is admirable to see Chagnon's efforts remain critical as he builds
relationships with the Yanomamo People. One relationship in particular is very interesting because of contradictions on previous observations and
statements. Chagnon stated, "I would be bitterly disappointed that my erstwhile friend thought no more of me than to finesse our personal
relationship exclusively with the intention of getting at my locked up possessions, and my depression would hit new lows every time I discovered
this." He observed for an extended period of time that friendship was based on lasting debts to be reimbursed, often at unequal ratios. This behavior
rang true not only of him, but of Rerebawa, who married into the tribe. It becomes interesting to consider that his value was that of material objects and
debts, much like we experience in some parts of American culture. As Chagnon

Construction Schedules : Types Of Construction Schedules
Delays should always be noted in the daily log and discussed at the weekly progress meeting. Any additional money required for the overtime portion
should be the electrician's responsibility and could result in a back charge claim by the acoustical ceiling contractor.
Types of Construction Schedules
The type of schedule used for a project normally depends on the cost and complexity of the project. A bar chart is usually used for smaller projects and
for larger projects a critical path method (CPM) schedule is established.

A bar chart simply indicates when specific activities will start, the duration of the activity and the finish date of the activity. Since each activity on a

Divide 30 hours per day by 8 hours per installer, equaling 3.75 or 4 installers per day to complete the grid. The same process determines how many
installers are needed to complete the tile installation. If 40 hours are estimated to install the tile, divide 40 hours by 2 days, equaling 20 hours per
day. Divide 20 hours by 8 hours per installer, equaling 2.5 installers per day to complete the ceiling tile.
What is important to note, the grid installation, painting and lighting/HVAC grille installations overlap in the schedule. In other words, some of the
actions are occurring on the same days. The ceiling foreman crew size is twice what was estimated above because those man hours represent the
acoustical ceiling installation for one floor, but according to the schedule, each floor starts on the same day.
Critical Path Method
Complex building projects require the use of a more sophisticated type of schedule called the critical path method or CPM shown in Figure 13. This
type of schedule indicates the dependencies and interrelationships between different activities. Those activities are shown as a network. A CPM
schedule shows the sequence of each activity, the start of each activity, the dependence of that activity on the completion of a preceding activity, and
how the completion of that activity will restrict the commencement of subsequent activities.

completion confusion, as it provides an effective time line to start and finish different tasks in project management. Second, it keeps everyone on the
same page, as it provides and road map for the stakeholders with clear tasks and objectives for efficient completion. Third, it helps the management to
make a good relationship in different tasks to depict a precise workflow in different projects. Fourth, it enables the management to allocate all the

Construct A Cost -benefit Analysis Matrix For An Organization
Construct a Cost –Benefit Analysis matrix for an organization that is considering replacing its internal payroll system with a payroll outsourcing
service. Include direct and indirect revenue enhancements and direct and indirect cost reductions. A cost benefit analysis is an analysis of change in the
cost–benefit ratio; a comparison of current existing circumstances with new conditions that are projected to exist after the HRIS investment (Carlson
& Kavanagh, 2012, p. 185). It provides the most comprehensive monetary measures of the positive and negative consequences of a possible internal
payroll system if done correctly. With a payroll outsourcing service, it is important to determine the risks and incentives of decision actions. The chart
below displays a Cost–Benefit matrix for an organization that is considering replacing its internal payroll system with a payroll outsourcing service.
Direct and Indirect Benefit consists of Revenue: (D) Improve employee job performance, (I) quicker systems and better reporting options. Reductions:

The Gantt Chart Of Planning And Tracking Your Group 's...
6.How useful was the Gantt chart in planning and tracking your group's progress through the production phase? Give reasons.
I think the Gantt chart was a good resource and very interesting but I think it wasn't totally necessary. As CEO I knew everything that had to be done
and was on top of it. My group members were also on top of their work and knew the deadlines. On the other hand I can see how a Gantt chart could be
a vital part of a bigger business.

10.How well did your group stay within budget of $20 per person? Was this reasonable? How could you have ensured you stayed within or under
budget?
Our group did manage to stay mostly within the $60 but a bit of the items came out of our own pockets. I think the $60 was a good amount but it
was very difficult to stay within that amount. I think to $60 was also good because it helped keep the groups on the same page. So a group with a lot
of money couldn't go over the top to much. It kept everyone on the same level.
We ensured that we stayed within the budget by shopping around and finding the cheapest price on all the items we needed. Also we prioritise on what
had to be bought and what we could source from home.
11.Were you personally kept aware of your group's financial position throughout the production phase? Explain.
Even though I was not the encharge of overseeing the finance side of things I did have a big role in it. I calculated what was needed and where we
could get the best price for it. I did the big shop and sourced most of the items. The financial planner Charlotte mad sure she kept the whole group
aware of the budget. I would say that I was kept aware of the group's financial position.

Analysis Of The Book ' The Wealth Of Nations ' Essay

Principles of Management
15 September, 2016
History of Management: Paper 1 Many people have their fingerprints on what is known as management today. Just as everything else it started from
ground zero with a lot of trial and error. Over the years brilliant people such as Adam Smith and countless others have etched into history that best
way to "manage," whether on a small or large scale. The wake of these people is still being seen today in upcoming companies such as Zappos, who
brings fresh and new twists to management as a whole. Management has evolved over the years and will continue to as people and procedures do as
well.
March 9, 1776 marked the date that Adam Smith wrote his widely known book "The Wealth of Nations". The book 's original name is "An Inquiry into
the Nature and Causes of the Wealth of Nations," however it is not recognized by the majority public as so. Smith originally wrote the novel to
dismember the thought that mercantilism was a good idea. Only selling goods and gaining nothing from trade in return proved in many cases to not be
effective.. Smith wrote of the "Invisible Hand" which claimed that people, by human nature, look out for their best interest and that in doing so they
unknowingly help the economy. Smith states, "He (or she) generally, indeed, neither intends to promote the public interest nor knows how much he is
promoting it" (Investopedia.com, An Inquiry into the Nature and Causes of the Wealth of

–level manager in a large metropolitan hotel. One of your assistant managers, Jeff Clarke, has
left you a voicemail message requesting emergency leave for the upcoming holiday weekend. Here's what the message stated: I'm calling to request
emergency leave again for this weekend. I know I've had three emergency leaves in the last two months, but my grandma isn't feeling well again, and
she really needs me to take care of her. I'll be in later tonight for my shift. Can you let me know then? Thanks. You know from previous requests for
time off that Jeff's grandmother is coping with a debilitating illness. Your other assistant manager, Nina Hernandez, has covered for Jeff three times in

Also, I would hope my co–workers would be willing to give the support I need during the troubling family crisis. 6. What are my audience's values
in relation to this message? What do they care about most? With the information provided Jeff's relation to the message is the need for the
message, his family crisis, but The Human Resources office cares most about the shift being covered by Jeff, and not his personal problems. 7.
What do I want my audience to think, do, feel, or believe after reading my message? I would hope the primary audience, the company, would
empathize with the problems I am currently having, and not penalize me for caring for my mother during her illness. 8. Are there any benefits for
my audience that is related to this message? The benefit for the audience I can think of would be to try and schedule the leave for after the event,
so both parties can be satisfied. 9. What information do I need to include for the secondary audience? The secondary audience, Human Resources,
requires paper work for incidences and emergencies. A doctor's note and a request are needed to clear the time off, and an incident report is needed
to terminate the employee. 10. Which medium is most appropriate for this message and this audience? Why? For Human Resources, a full write up of
the incident would be an acceptable medium. If Jeff were to have provide more of a notice than the company could have been more prepared, and the

Week 6 Discussion
For the Week 6 Discussion you will create a Gantt chart for one element of the St. Dismas case study project. Using a project management tool like
MS Project is typically the easiest and fastest way to do this. However, it is not the only way. You can use MS Office products as well to create the
Gantt Chart.
Students often ask about the use of project management software applications in this course. In the past we required the use of MS Project for this
course but removed it as a requirement when we rewrote the course. The reason we removed it was that MS Project has a very steep learning curve
for all but the most basic functions. The software is very expensive and is not web–based so it requires installation on ... Show more content on

Rather, a Gantt chart treats each activity as if it were independent of the others, which of course is not really the case. For this reason, Gantt charts are
better suited for systems implementation projects that are not complex and have relatively few interrelationships among implementation activities."

It helps to look at the software as a framework that can be modified in hundreds of different ways to support your organization's culture. If you have a
disciplined organization with projects that are well defined and stable, you can implement many system capabilities relatively quickly to streamline
and simplify formerly manual processes. However, if your organization is new to the field of project management, you might have to introduce system
features in several phases so that the learning curve is not too steep. Another factor, which could be considered in planning the scope and phasing of
your implementation are the history and type of project. (informit.com) There are so many different types of project management software that runs on
desktop or notebook computers can perform these tasks easily and quickly, can enable a project leader to plan and control implementation tasks, and
can help a team install a new system on time and within budget. Examples of project management software solutions include SAP, Agile, Microsoft

Gantt Chart Analysis
Introduction
I have been assigned the job of creating a project schedule for the construction of a new hotel complex in Preston Town Centre; it is next to a major
roundabout in the town centre which is less than half a mile away from the local train station and bus station. As planning permission has been
approved, work will begin shortly on constructing the complex.
I have been given a list of all the major tasks that are included in building the complex as well as the duration of each task and an approximate cost of
each job, as per standard I will be charging ВЈ50 a hour to create the schedule which will include a Gantt Chart, a critical path analysis and a cost
analysis for the construction.

It needs a good procurement policy to find the best and most realistic cost for each of the task.
The analysis needs to be consistent as it relies on being accurate to complete the analysis as if it isn't consistent then there will be problems if they are
not spotted and rectified before the construction of the complex.
If the analysis does not have good documentation the project will fail as there will be no explanation or details on how the construction should work,
there would be no approximate dates for when each task is due to be started or finished, as well as the approximate duration of tasks.
This means that as important as costing is, it ensures that the company can make a profit from the project or they will not want to extend their
business if it will lose them money as they will have to pay out more for construction, rent, labour and bills

A Gantt chart is a simple horizontal bar chart that depicts project tasks against a calendar. Gantt and PERT charts are not mutually exclusive. Gantt
charts are more effective when you are seeking to communicate schedule. PERT charts are more effective when you want to study the relationships
between tasks. 4)Differentiate between forward and reverse scheduling. Why might each be more appropriate to a given project? Forward scheduling –
project scheduling approach that establishes a project start date and then schedules forward from that date. Based on the planned duration of required
tasks, their interdependencies, and the allocation of resources to complete those tasks, a projected project completion date is calculated. Reverse
scheduling – project scheduling strategy that establishes a project deadline and then schedules backward from the date. Tasks, their duration,
interdependencies, and resources must be considered to ensure that the project can be completed by the deadline. 5)What is the critical path for a
project? What is slack time? How are they related? The critical path for a project is a sequence of dependent tasks that have the largest sum of most
likely durations. The critical path determines the earliest possible completion date of the project. The critical path tasks have no slack time available –
thus, any delay in completion of any of the tasks on the critical path will cause an overall delay in the completion of the

Kristen's Cookies Case Study Solutions
Case Report: Kristen's Cookie Company
1. Assuming that the order contains a dozen of cookies, the time to take a rush order is the sum of cycle times for each activity:
0+6+2+9+1+0+5+2+1=26 min.
2. Assuming a two dozens order, we have to consider that for the first dozen, my roommate can start backing after I have spooned the cookies on the
tray. However when backing the second order he simultaneously cools and then packs the cookies from the first order. I can start mixing the second
batch without waiting for the first–batch process to be completed (she starts washing out the bowl as soon as she finishes filling the tray). Thus, to fill
a complete order for two dozens of cookies will be 36 min (see Gantt chart in the appendix). So ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Thus we get 6+2*(2+1+2)+1=17 min of valuable time for two orders. For three orders we get 6+3*(2+1+2)+1=22 min of valuable time. A further
assumption is that the costs of my and my roommate's time are L per hour, then the average costs for the first dozen are: (12/60)*L= 0,2L, for the
second dozen: ((17/60)*L)/2=0,142L, for the third dozen: ((22/60)*L)/3=0,122. We see that the costs for each the second and the third dozens are less
than for the first. Thus, we can give discount on orders for more than one dozen. These can be for the first dozen up to (0,2–0.141)*L=0.058L for the
second dozen, and (0,2–0,122)*L=0,078L for the third order.
In the case of more than 3 dozens of cookies we have to consider the fact that the mixing bowl can only hold for up to three dozens of cookies. Thus,
we have 12+4*(2+1+2)+1=33 min of valuable time with costs of ((33/60)*L)/4=0,1375. So the maximum is reached when we produce up to 3 dozens,
but we should give discounts on 3+ orders, too.
5. As the Gantt diagram shows the electric mixer is not used for a long time within the process, so only one mixer is needed. Buying a new one will
not increase the productivity of the process. The number of baking trays equals the maximum number of trays you will be using at any time. The
highest volume of production is if three–dozen orders are produced continuously (s. Gantt diagram). The three activities that require a tray are filling
the tray, baking and

A Swot Analysis Of K3 Is The Threats Essay
The final area that we need to examine for the SWOT analysis of K3 is the threats. The obvious threats to K3 are the other two competitors, MITT
and The Batter's Box. The fact that they have both in business longer and are a little more centrally located means that people will continue to
flock to them and what the know than drive out of their way to go to a new facility where they are unsure what kind of service they will get for
their money. Furthermore, these two businesses may have more capital at the current moment to branch out and conduct more training clinics or
even purchase a bigger facility or expand their current one to compete with K3. Another threat in the area is the local economy, as a state Illinois
is not doing well economically, and Belleville and the smaller surrounding towns have been hit hard the last few years. This economic downturn
could mean that fewer people could afford to take their youth to get specialized baseball lessons. One final threat could be new competition. There
are several baseball training facilities not too far away in downtown St. Louis that have big name MLB players backing them. If one of these
facilities were to choose to spread out and move into the local area, this could have a dramatic impact on not just K3 but other local training facilities
as well. With the amount of capital K3 currently has they would be able to purchase a larger facility than K3 and as successful as they have been in
St. Louis they could their already

Quality Improvement Action Plan Implementation Essay
Quality Improvement Action Plan An estimated 30,100 central line associated bloodstream infections (CLABSI) occur yearly in the United States
intensive care units and acute care facilities (cdc.gov, 2016). CLABSIs are a significant issue in MCH that requires immediate attention to reach the
goal of zero CLABIs. The purpose of this paper is to develop a plan for implementing the CLABSI quality improvement initiative, including the process
of planning a timeline, implementation, and evaluation of the improvement.
Plan for Implementing CLABSI Initiative CLABSI have serious consequences, impacting the patient in a variety of ways, including increased
mortality, suffering, and increased length of hospitalization. Joint Commission's national safety goals for 2016 complements IOM's aims to provide
safe care. Joint Commissions goal NPSG.07.04.01 to implement evidence–based practices to prevent CLABSI (Joint Commission, 2015). MCWHLB
aim is to have a zero CLABSI rate to prevent harm from occurring to our inpatient pediatric population.

Harding goes deep into the social and moral fabric of what America is and how it can actually be anything more than just a notion since all of
America's greatest moments were at the expense of the black man. Harding states that "Black history is forced on to ask about the meaning of America
itself."[1]. The progression in thinking and the attitude toward African–American history can obviously be seen by these different authors. Harding
makes a statement to the effect that maybe his predecessors could not make the distinction between Negro history and Black history because they
were too close to the pain and suffering of their day. This is a valid point and I believe that as time has passed, African–American historians have
really dug deep into Harding's "Black history". There is without a doubt a section of American history missing and it is definitely that of the
African–American. [1] Vincent Harding, "Vincent Harding on the Differences Between Negro History and Black History, 1971," ed. Thomas C. Hot

Gantt Chart
Gantt Chart
Introduction.
A Gantt chart is a visual project management tool first developed and used by Henry Gantt during World War I. Gantt charts, also known as bar charts,
time lines, or milestone charts are one of the most popular and useable ways to present project information.
The parts of a Gantt chart.
A Gantt chart lists tasks or phases of a project from top to bottom and has time running from left to right. Each task has a start date and duration (or
end date). Planned tasks are usually drawn as open bars, which are filled in as the work is done. Alternatively separate filled in bars can be drawn
below the open bars to more clearly show how the tasks are proceeding in relation to their planned schedule. Additionally, a Gantt... Show more content

Critical Path Method (CPM).
The critical path method was first developed at Dupont during the 1950's. CPM analysis consists of using a lot of diagrams to look at the activity,
time needed and result. We advise you to read a CPM based book in conjunction with reading this section to see how the diagrams develop. We shall
now briefly discuss CPM logic.
There are 2 basic areas of CPM:
A. Activity on arrow.
B. Activity on node.
A. Activity on arrow. Basically the diagrams are constructed using arrows. An activity is used describe a task that needs to be completed or is waiting
to be completed. An event is the start/completion of a activity/series of activities.
Normal activities are show as straight lines with arrows attached. Dummy activities are described as being something that needs to occur but which
does not take up any resources, these are shown as:
The general convention of the diagrams (a) time goes from the left to right, (b) the arrow length has no meaning (c) the logic is that as one activity
emerges from another activity it gets a higher number.
A. Activity on node.

Planning And Scheduling Process Of Construction Sector Essay
LITERATURE REVIEW
Planning and scheduling process of construction sector has been undergoing various research since 1950s. The planning and scheduling processes for
construction can be broadly classified into two categories 1. Activity based planning methodologies and 2. Location based planning methodologies. The
activity based methodology is further subdivided as deterministic (Critical path method) and probabilistic method (Program Evaluation and Review
Technique). While location based methodologies can be subdivided into unit production and location production.
Activity based scheduling methodology was developed in 1950s. The planning is done in construction process by using network of activities in this
methodology.
Location based methodology is based on the tracking of the crews working at various production tasks. These techniques are adopted using various
graphical methods. This technique was used as a construction management system at the empire states building developed by goodyear company.
These techniques are widely adopted in continuous production facilities.it was considered that this methodology requires repetition of activities and
hence known as repetitive scheduling method (RSM).
While this method is more concerned about movement o resources through various locations and activities need not to be repetitive for adoption of this
method. So rather than repetition this methodology concentrates on tasks which are aggregated activities over various locations.

  • 9. Difference Between A Pert And Gantt Chart Compare and contrast the information that one receives from a Gantt chart, versus that of a PERT diagram A significant piece of project management is organization. Both Pert and Gantt charts are essential tools that are utilized by project managers in creating a project schedule. Both types of charts offer tools for managers to examine projects through visualization, helping divide responsibilities into controllable parts. An important difference between a PERT chart and a Gantt chart is the way the information is presented. Gantt charts display information in the design of a bar chart. This representation helps show the percentage of work accomplished for each task. On the other hand, PERT shows data as a network model. Meaning that a PERT chart displays an earlier node from which tasks branch out. This helps project managers envision the arrangement of tasks. Together PERT and Gantt charts will show the tasks to be accomplished, but the charts highlight dissimilar parts. A Gantt chart's primary focus is on the ratio completion of each task, without indicating the connection that two tasks may have to each other. While PERT typically does not show the percentage completed, PERT employs a network model, which makes it is easy to see which tasks depend on each other, it typically does not show the percentage of completed tasks. Examine the advantages of using a Gantt chart over a PERT chart and vice versa. Determine when it is appropriate to use one ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Spark RDD follows the concept of coarsely grained operation which means the operation is applied within the dataset for all the elements. By transforming existing RDD or reading data from HDFS RDD's created. Readable data from stable storage can only create RDD. HDFS and existing transformed data in RDD are a good example of this. Example : firstRDD=spark.textFile("hdfs://...") secondRDD=firstRDD.filter(someFunction); 4. What is the meaning of a "lazy evaluation" and what are its benefits? Ans: Lazy evaluation in Spark means that the execution will not start until an action is triggered. It occurs only when spark transformation occurs i.e spark transformation gives the picture of lazy evaluation. Advantages : i.The user can organize their program into smaller programs which helps better maintaining the code. ii. Time and space complexity issues are addressed as not each and every execution is operated which saves time. The lazy evaluation also works with the infinite data structure. The action is voluntary as it triggers depends on the requirements. It provides performance optimization by reducing the number of queries. 5. What are transformations and actions? Chagnon's 15 month enculturation with the Yanomamo tribe, Bisaasi –teri is characterized by fear, discomfort, loneliness, nosiness, and invaluable experiences through relationships and modesty about human culture. Chagnon documents the experience through the struggle and discovery surrounding his proposed research, as his lifestyle gradually comes in sync with the natural functions of his community. This is a breakdown where the AAA (American Anthropological Association) might see an opportunity for ethical issues concerning the method of information attained. It is admirable to see Chagnon's efforts remain critical as he builds relationships with the Yanomamo People. One relationship in particular is very interesting because of contradictions on previous observations and statements. Chagnon stated, "I would be bitterly disappointed that my erstwhile friend thought no more of me than to finesse our personal relationship exclusively with the intention of getting at my locked up possessions, and my depression would hit new lows every time I discovered this." He observed for an extended period of time that friendship was based on lasting debts to be reimbursed, often at unequal ratios. This behavior rang true not only of him, but of Rerebawa, who married into the tribe. It becomes interesting to consider that his value was that of material objects and debts, much like we experience in some parts of American culture. As Chagnon ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Divide 20 hours by 8 hours per installer, equaling 2.5 installers per day to complete the ceiling tile. What is important to note, the grid installation, painting and lighting/HVAC grille installations overlap in the schedule. In other words, some of the actions are occurring on the same days. The ceiling foreman crew size is twice what was estimated above because those man hours represent the acoustical ceiling installation for one floor, but according to the schedule, each floor starts on the same day. Just as everything else it started from ground zero with a lot of trial and error. Over the years brilliant people such as Adam Smith and countless others have etched into history that best way to "manage," whether on a small or large scale. The wake of these people is still being seen today in upcoming companies such as Zappos, who brings fresh and new twists to management as a whole. Smith originally wrote the novel to dismember the thought that mercantilism was a good idea. Only selling goods and gaining nothing from trade in return proved in many cases to not be effective.. Smith wrote of the "Invisible Hand" which claimed that people, by human nature, look out for their best interest and that in doing so they unknowingly help the economy. If the analysis does not have good documentation the project will fail as there will be no explanation or details on how the construction should work, there would be no approximate dates for when each task is due to be started or finished, as well as the approximate duration of tasks. This means that as important as costing is, it ensures that the company can make a profit from the project or they will not want to extend their business if it will lose them money as they will have to pay out more for construction, rent, labour and bills Project Costing Analysis Activity| Estimated cost| How many of each unit| Total| Site clearance| В Ј3,000.00| 15| ВЈ45,000.00| removal of rubble| ВЈ5,000.00| 20| ВЈ100,000.00| hole boring| ВЈ2,000.00| 30| ВЈ60,000.00| concrete pouring| ВЈ2,000.00| 30| ВЈ60,000.00| design of steelwork| ВЈ50,000.00| 1| ВЈ50,000.00| manufacture of steelwork| ВЈ150,000.00| 1| ВЈ150,000.00| delivery on site| ВЈ5,000.00| 21| ВЈ105,000.00| erection on site| | | ВЈ0.00| delivery and finishing of concrete floor| ВЈ4,500.00| 25| ВЈ112,500.00| installation of stairs| ... A Gantt chart is a simple horizontal bar chart that depicts project tasks against a calendar. Gantt and PERT charts are not mutually exclusive. Gantt charts are more effective when you are seeking to communicate schedule. PERT charts are more effective when you want to study the relationships between tasks. 4)Differentiate between forward and reverse scheduling. Why might each be more appropriate to a given project? Forward scheduling – project scheduling approach that establishes a project start date and then schedules forward from that date. Based on the planned duration of required tasks, their interdependencies, and the allocation of resources to complete those tasks, a projected project completion date is calculated. Reverse scheduling – project scheduling strategy that establishes a project deadline and then schedules backward from the date. Tasks, their duration, interdependencies, and resources must be considered to ensure that the project can be completed by the deadline. 5)What is the critical path for a project? What is slack time? How are they related? The critical path for a project is a sequence of dependent tasks that have the largest sum of most likely durations. The critical path determines the earliest possible completion date of the project. The critical path tasks have no slack time available – thus, any delay in completion of any of the tasks on the critical path will cause an overall delay in the completion of the ... • 33. Kristen's Cookies Case Study Solutions Case Report: Kristen's Cookie Company 1. Assuming that the order contains a dozen of cookies, the time to take a rush order is the sum of cycle times for each activity: 0+6+2+9+1+0+5+2+1=26 min. 2. Assuming a two dozens order, we have to consider that for the first dozen, my roommate can start backing after I have spooned the cookies on the tray. However when backing the second order he simultaneously cools and then packs the cookies from the first order. I can start mixing the second batch without waiting for the first–batch process to be completed (she starts washing out the bowl as soon as she finishes filling the tray). Thus, to fill a complete order for two dozens of cookies will be 36 min (see Gantt chart in the appendix). So ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Thus we get 6+2*(2+1+2)+1=17 min of valuable time for two orders. For three orders we get 6+3*(2+1+2)+1=22 min of valuable time. A further assumption is that the costs of my and my roommate's time are L per hour, then the average costs for the first dozen are: (12/60)*L= 0,2L, for the second dozen: ((17/60)*L)/2=0,142L, for the third dozen: ((22/60)*L)/3=0,122. We see that the costs for each the second and the third dozens are less than for the first. Thus, we can give discount on orders for more than one dozen. These can be for the first dozen up to (0,2–0.141)*L=0.058L for the second dozen, and (0,2–0,122)*L=0,078L for the third order. In the case of more than 3 dozens of cookies we have to consider the fact that the mixing bowl can only hold for up to three dozens of cookies. Thus, we have 12+4*(2+1+2)+1=33 min of valuable time with costs of ((33/60)*L)/4=0,1375. So the maximum is reached when we produce up to 3 dozens, but we should give discounts on 3+ orders, too. 5. As the Gantt diagram shows the electric mixer is not used for a long time within the process, so only one mixer is needed. Buying a new one will not increase the productivity of the process. The number of baking trays equals the maximum number of trays you will be using at any time. The highest volume of production is if three–dozen orders are produced continuously (s. Gantt diagram). The three activities that require a tray are filling the tray, baking and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 34. A Swot Analysis Of K3 Is The Threats Essay The final area that we need to examine for the SWOT analysis of K3 is the threats. The obvious threats to K3 are the other two competitors, MITT and The Batter's Box. The fact that they have both in business longer and are a little more centrally located means that people will continue to flock to them and what the know than drive out of their way to go to a new facility where they are unsure what kind of service they will get for their money. Furthermore, these two businesses may have more capital at the current moment to branch out and conduct more training clinics or even purchase a bigger facility or expand their current one to compete with K3. Another threat in the area is the local economy, as a state Illinois is not doing well economically, and Belleville and the smaller surrounding towns have been hit hard the last few years. This economic downturn could mean that fewer people could afford to take their youth to get specialized baseball lessons. One final threat could be new competition. There are several baseball training facilities not too far away in downtown St. Louis that have big name MLB players backing them. If one of these facilities were to choose to spread out and move into the local area, this could have a dramatic impact on not just K3 but other local training facilities as well. With the amount of capital K3 currently has they would be able to purchase a larger facility than K3 and as successful as they have been in St. Louis they could their already ... Harding goes deep into the social and moral fabric of what America is and how it can actually be anything more than just a notion since all of America's greatest moments were at the expense of the black man. Harding states that "Black history is forced on to ask about the meaning of America itself."[1]. The progression in thinking and the attitude toward African–American history can obviously be seen by these different authors. Harding makes a statement to the effect that maybe his predecessors could not make the distinction between Negro history and Black history because they were too close to the pain and suffering of their day. This is a valid point and I believe that as time has passed, African–American historians have really dug deep into Harding's "Black history". There is without a doubt a section of American history missing and it is definitely that of the African–American. Gantt charts, also known as bar charts, time lines, or milestone charts are one of the most popular and useable ways to present project information. The parts of a Gantt chart. A Gantt chart lists tasks or phases of a project from top to bottom and has time running from left to right. Each task has a start date and duration (or end date). Planned tasks are usually drawn as open bars, which are filled in as the work is done. Alternatively separate filled in bars can be drawn below the open bars to more clearly show how the tasks are proceeding in relation to their planned schedule. Additionally, a Gantt... • 41. Critical Path Method (CPM). The critical path method was first developed at Dupont during the 1950's. CPM analysis consists of using a lot of diagrams to look at the activity, time needed and result. We advise you to read a CPM based book in conjunction with reading this section to see how the diagrams develop. We shall now briefly discuss CPM logic. There are 2 basic areas of CPM: A. Activity on arrow. B. Activity on node. A. Activity on arrow. Basically the diagrams are constructed using arrows. An activity is used describe a task that needs to be completed or is waiting to be completed. An event is the start/completion of a activity/series of activities. Normal activities are show as straight lines with arrows attached. Dummy activities are described as being something that needs to occur but which does not take up any resources, these are shown as: The general convention of the diagrams (a) time goes from the left to right, (b) the arrow length has no meaning (c) the logic is that as one activity emerges from another activity it gets a higher number. • 42. Planning And Scheduling Process Of Construction Sector Essay LITERATURE REVIEW Planning and scheduling process of construction sector has been undergoing various research since 1950s. The planning and scheduling processes for construction can be broadly classified into two categories 1. Activity based planning methodologies and 2. Location based planning methodologies. The activity based methodology is further subdivided as deterministic (Critical path method) and probabilistic method (Program Evaluation and Review Technique). While location based methodologies can be subdivided into unit production and location production. Activity based scheduling methodology was developed in 1950s. The planning is done in construction process by using network of activities in this methodology. Location based methodology is based on the tracking of the crews working at various production tasks. These techniques are adopted using various graphical methods. This technique was used as a construction management system at the empire states building developed by goodyear company. These techniques are widely adopted in continuous production facilities.it was considered that this methodology requires repetition of activities and hence known as repetitive scheduling method (RSM). While this method is more concerned about movement o resources through various locations and activities need not to be repetitive for adoption of this method. So rather than repetition this methodology concentrates on tasks which are aggregated activities over various locations. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
