Task 4 - Contents Page

1. Language – The language on the contents page appeals to the target audience because it is complex,
structured phrases appeal to them because it is on their intellectual level. If they were to use simple
language then they would feel like they are being belittled, or along them lines.
Colour – The colours on the contents page appeal to the target audience because they are subtle,
not in your face, adults don’t want an array of colours as it would be harsh to look at. The colours
are also in good contrast with each other, there isn’t any colours that clash, this would appeal to the
target audience because it is satisfying seeing colours that work well, if you had red and pink for
example, it wouldn’t look very nice.

2. Images – The images on the contents page appeal to the target audience because they can relate to
them, the people featured in the images are roughly around the same age, so the audience have a
connection with the images. Another way it appeals is by the images being fun, no one likes a
miserable photograph, they are of people who are enjoying themselves.
Content – The content of the contents page appeals to the target audience also by them being able
to relate to the stories. One of the subheadings is ‘national affairs,’ this is quite an open topic, many
people can relate or understand what they will be talking about. Also it appeals to the target
audience because they know the people featured in it, for example Beyonce is featured, because she
is popular most people will want to read about her.
