2. Project Summary
The developer aimed to develop a system entitled “ICT-Resource Monitoring
system for Philippine College of Science and Technology which is located at
Nalsian, Calasiao, Pangasinan (PhilCST). PhilCST has different department that
caters the services needed by its students. One of the department is the ICT-
Resource Office. This department has the responsibility of maintain the resource
used by the school. Being a faculty of PhilCST the developer has noticed some
aspects that needs improvement on the process of said office. In the course of the
study the developer determined the different problems that are encountered by
the staff of the office. One of which is the accuracy of information that are used
by the office. Thus, the function of office is affected that by this problem. Other
problem is the schedule of maintenance for the different ICT-Resources. The staff
uses logbooks for the different record for the maintenance and status of the
different resource.
3. Problem Description
The project aimed to develop an ICT-Resource Monitoring System of
Philippine College of Science andTechnology.
Specifically, it sought answers the problem of the following:
1) What is the present advising system used by ICT-Resource Monitoring
System of Philippine College of Science and Technology of Philippine College
of Science andTechnology?
2) What are the problems encountered with present resource monitoring
system currently used by Philippine College of Science andTechnology?
3)What can be developed to minimize these problems?
4) What features can be adopted in the development of the proposed ICT-
Resource Monitoring System for the Philippine College of Science and
Technology?
4. Purpose and Description
This study sought to develop a system for Philippines College of Science
and Technology that has the specific function of monitoring the inventory and
the status of every computer peripheral. The system would enable the users to
generate various reports for the different functions and requirements. This
project would ease the present problems encountered by the department. As
an aim of automation this project would increase the accuracy and integrity of
information. The system has the function of evaluating the capacity of each
computer laboratory rooms for the coming semester. The main feature of the
system is the security of the information within the system.
5. Purpose and Description
This project study design and develop a ICT-Resources Monitoring System
for Philippine College of Science and Technology. It sought to determine and
describe the following objectives:
1. Determine the existing processes in the ICT-Resources Monitoring system
in terms of:
a. Keeping track, the location of the ICT-Resources
b. Monitoring repaired and damage ICT-Resources
c. Notification and Report generation
2. Describe functional requirements of the system in terms of:
a. Capacity Planning
b. Preventive Maintenance
c. Security
3. Determine the features of the system to be included.
6. Conceptual Framework
Research and observation regarding the present procedures of the ICT-
Resources Monitoring process, the manual system for keeping computer
peripheral records and the testing services for PhilCST was used by the
developer as inputs. Interviews will also be conducted with the school
administration to be able to acquire relevant information for the development
of the system specifications.
The developer used the Sashimi (Modified) Waterfall Model, a variation of
the waterfall model with overlapping phases. Since this model allows some of
the phases to overlap, documentation requirements and the cost of returning
to earlier stages for revision is reduced. The Sashimi (Modified) Waterfall
model is done on a discontinuous basis, enabling the phases to overlap and
provide feedback between the phases. This approach is considered suitable for
the projects that require a fair number of insights between each layer of
development as the development life cycle progresses (Rising, 2009). The
result of this process is the PhilCST ICT-Resources Monitoring System.
11. Recommendations
Based on the findings and conclusions presented, the following
recommendations are hereby recommended:
1. The developer recommends the implementation of the ICT-Resources
Monitoring System to minimize problems encountered in the current manual
system used;
2. The system would be implement for the ICT-Resource Office should
improve the existing system and thus be utilized to its full features and
capabilities; and
3. Lastly, further study should be done to assess the overall performance of
the developed system.
