3. More females than males took part in my survey, could be
linked to a lack of interest in horror for males. This could be
linked to the idea that horror films are most popular with
females ages 16-32.
4.
5. My results tell me that my target audience is definitely for
people 16 and over, mainly for the younger generation between
16+24.
6. Q. What are your main interests?
• Watching films, sports, gaming
• Photography, Fantasy, Fashion
• Films and reading
• Paranormal films
• Swimming, socialising, reading
• Reading, acting, singing, drawing, films
• Theatre, film, music
• Watching films, tv, reading
From my results I can see that my target audience has a clear interest in things such as
films and reading; conventional things for young people to be interesting. The obvious
interest in films means that I will have to deliver my trailer to a high standard as it is
important to young people.
7. Q. What do you expect to see in a horror film?
• People going into scary rooms which they shouldn’t go in, but they do anyway
and die.
• Supernatural beings, blood, gore.
• Blood, dark scenes, creepy music, gory scenes, death
• Blood and gore
• Scenes that make you jump, plot twists, decent special effects
• Some sort of villian, be it a person or a demon, also a realistic enough plot line.
• Jump scared, blood, and monster/antagonist
From these results I can see that my audience does in fact have a basic understanding of
the main horror conventions; and they expect to see them. For example, there is an obvious
desire for a antagonists or villain in the film, and also they expect to see a lot of jump. I
can tell that my audience expects to be actually scared which is obviously important. My
audience expects a high quality standard.
8. Q. What do you expect to see in a horror film teaser trailer?
• Tense scenes whispering voices people entering the room that they
shouldn't go in.. screaming.
• A big jump scare, dark spaces, eerie sounds
• jumpy moments, scarier scenes from the film , creepy music
• Lots of jump scares
• An idea of what the film is about but not all the best bits
• short introduction of the story, jump scare and some action
sequences
• highlights of the jump scares
These results are really useful because they are telling me that the audience expects to be
scared. The mention of ‘jump scares’ is repeated more than once will is very significant as
it shows the audience has a good understanding of what the trailer should be like, they
expect it; they want all these jump scared to make them engage with the trailer. It also
shows they understand the idea of what a teaser trailer does, showing the idea of the films
but not giving much away.
9.
10. These results are so useful as it is what I expected to see after extensive
research into film magazine covers. They tend to design the page around the film
they are advertising and strongly represent the genre. The idea that the audience
expects to see colours such as red, black and white support my results into the
horror genre as these are the main colours used; I will definitely be including them
in my promotional package.
11.
12. These results again mirror my research into the horror genre
as every horror poster or film magazine cover featured very
bold, eye catching font as it represents the genre will; this
shows the audience is aware of this. It is something I will
definitely address in my promotional package because I can see
that’s its what’s expected.
13. Q. What would you like to see in my horror film?
• Footage that will make me get goosebumps
• Ghosts
• Lots of things jumping out
• Gory scenes, blood, jumpy scenes.
• scenes that make me jump, gore,
• A reasonably believable plot line; nothing worse than an unrealistic plot
that leaves you shouting at the screen.
• Everyone dying and loads of jumpy scenes
• Psychological stuff that really plays with your mind.
• good story, interesting characters
These results are telling me that when it comes to horror the audience truly craves the true horror
conventions such as jump scares. This emphasises the audiences need to be actually scared. My
results also tell me that the audience expects a decent storyline they can follow- I can understand
this because the more unrealistic the storyline, the less scary the film becomes.
14. Q. What wouldn’t you want to see in my horror film?
• Pink fluffy unicorns Care bears Any of the Tweenies Tinky winky Simba
Kusco Bilbo baggins Peirs Morgan or Austin Powers.
• A princess
• A typical story line that's predictable
• a creepy little girl singing
• Little dead children
• The typical blonde bimbo and jock characters. So many horror films have
too many predictable elements. Anything predictable isn't great.
• bland story line
• Romance and boring stuff
These results tell me that people all have individual preferences when it comes to what really
scares them, what some people might love to see in a horror, others might find it too scary. It
has also brought to my intention how important the storyline is to the audience- they want
something gripping and actually scary instead of something that will bore them. Also the
audience doesn’t like seeing things that go away from the horror genre, for example princesses
and pink fluffy unicorns

16. These results are letting me know that the horror genre is a
pretty popular genre as over 60% of participants watch them
occasionally and just over 20% watch them weekly! I think it is
very significant that only 10% of the participants never watch
horror films; showing it’s a universal genre watched my most
people, however often.
