LANDSLIDE MONITORING AND ALERT SYSTEM FINAL YEAR PROJECT BROCHURE
Media q6 evaluation
1. EVALUATION Q6
What have you learnt about technologies
from the process of constructing this product?
2. Hardware Used
• NIKON D2100
• Apple MacBook Air
• HP PC Tower and Monitor
• iPhone Camera
3. Software Used
• Microsoft PowerPoint
• Adobe Photoshop
• Facetune
• Slide Share
• Google Drive
• Google
• Microsoft Word
• Blogger
4. iPhone Camera
I noticed that on my iPhone camera the photos where high
quality and they were above the quality I expected and
using my smart phone made the images easily accessible
to email to myself and transfer onto the computer. It was
also very useful as the images linked up to my Mac so I
could view/edit/blog them from a larger screen. I have an
application on my phone which is very good for editing
photographs of people so I did a few bits of editing on that,
however if I did not take the photographs on my iPhone I
would not have been able to use tis application.
5. Nikon D2100
This is a professional style camera that I found was quite
complex to use. Before I took any photographs I thought
that this would be the better camera to use however the
photos where not as accessible as they ended up to be on
the iPhone and as I was working to a deadline I had to
make sure that I was being time efficient so I decided
against this hardware. Also some of the editing processes
could have only taken place on an iPhone so this would
have effected the quality of the final product.
6. Apple MacBook Air
I found that this hardware (my personal laptop) did not work
as well as a Windows with Google Drive and Blogger. This
laptop was more convenient with photos and editing
however I found many system errors when running Google
along side it. Apple works best with its own search engine
‘Safari’ and the online software works best with Google
Chrome. However Apple seemed to be faster and more
compatible with Adobe software.
7. HP Tower and Monitor
I found that using this PC was more effective when running
programs such as PowerPoint, Word and all Google
software. This hardware had problems running software
such as Photoshop I found that Adobe was greatly
compatible and fairly slow with Windows.
8. Facetune
Facetune is an app I have on my iPhone which costs £2. It is
great for reducing lines and blemishes in the face and you can
refine parts for the body that look to large or not big enough
for example I took my models neck in to make her look
slimmer and more feminine. It also has a highlight feature
which makes certain parts of the shot stand out which I used
on her eyes, eyebrows, jewelry and hair.
Any shots that her teeth
show the where whitened on
this app also. I could have
used Photoshop for this
editing however because I
took the photographs on my
phone it was easier to open
them up in that app , also
these editing process would
take longer on Photoshop.
9. Photoshop
I used Photoshop for all three of my pages for my magazine and I used it for
my preliminary task. Photoshop was the best program I used in this project as
I was able to design, layout and edit my photos, text and magazine. I used
tools such as Contrast and Brightness to alter my images to give them more
vibrancy, I also used the magic wand tool, quick selection tool, magnetic lasso
and the eraser to cut round my images of Isla Koyle so she could appear in
front a pure white background. For my double page spread I highlighted one of
Isla’s quotes, “It’s all been a blur” and to go alone side this I decided to blur my
main image of Isla on the double page spread. This required me to use the
Gallery and select a filter to make Isla body slightly distorted in a blurred way.
On my front cover I used The 3D perspective tool to make the title of the
magazine have an effective isometric outer shadow.
10. Models
Megan Orr – Isla Koyle
Issie Davis – Kylie Cole
Sam Hamer – Ned Cheeran
Kaylyn Channer – Eliza Kelly
Simrita Khela – Rhiannon Sauders
Originally Simrita Khela (SK) was the first choice of model
for my main artist however after shooting with SK I found
that she didn’t fit the artist I had I mind, I found that she had
to much of a mature look to her that would not appeal to my
target audience and she also would not have suited the
genre of music that I was intending for my main artist to be
associated with. So I decided to do a second shoot with
Megan Orr (MO).
