Question 6 - magazine technology
1. What have learnt about
technologies from the process of
constructing this product?
2. From using this I have learnt how to
edit an image changing the
Photoshop background how to work with layers
bringing layers forward and back
and how to edit each layer. I have
learnt how to resize an image and
change the positioning. This is due
to the fact I had never used
Photoshop before as well as a apple
mac meaning I had to get to know
the technologies. I used this due to
the fact it is the same as what
professional companies would use
due to it creating the best effects to
attract an audience. It improved my
product by giving it a more
professional look and meaning I can
edit the image and text to look
attractive. However I would
preferred it be easy to understand
how to use as it was complicated to
work.
3. Digital SLR
• I used a digital SLR camera to
take my images. I found out how
to use distance and how a lens
worked in creating a focused
image. I used this technology to
take my images as it creates the
images at the best standard and
also meant that I could take
many images and get the best
possible image due to the review
button meaning I could see my
images when taken. It benefited
my product by making sure I had
images which would enhance my
work. However, I had to have the
lens focused correctly to create a
good focus on my models
4. Flash set
• For this I used the different lighting and
a backdrops. I found that changing the
positioning and height of the lights
created the perfect lighting in which
would I could show the emotion in the
image. Due to it being connected to the
camera it also helped enhance the
image. Being able to change the the
backdrop meant I could have a clean
background in which to show the
importance of the model. It benefited
my magazine by creating the best
lighting enhancing the model and giving
making sure that the sell lines would
stand out with out the pages seeming
too busy and distracting the audience.
However, we were limited to the time
we could spend getting the images in
the studio.
5. InDesign
• From using InDesign I learnt
how create an article and fit
it to look professional. I also
learnt how to create a
product with similar layouts
to the magazines which are
already in the public eye. In
this I used the features the
export and import buttons
to install my images and
how to resize images and
change positioning. It
didn't’t benefit my work
when just like Photoshop it
was hard to work with.
6. The Internet
• I found the internet really useful when
getting my institution research. I found out
the likes and dislikes for my target audience
and also found the types of companies which
would help produce and distribute products
of my genre. It was useful doing this to find
images and information was magazines in my
genre. This meant I had more idea what may
attract my target audience be it
images, colours and sell line subjects. I used
the internet as it has unlimited access to
information to create a productive magazine.
However, I did find it hard when looking for
some of this information due to some of it
being unreliable due to age of the source and
then there was the fact that websites such as
the uktribes was under construction when
searching for information on my target
audience making it harder to find a reliable
source.
7. PREZI
• I found that in prezi I could
create mind maps which I
could store information and
annotate professional
products gaining information
to apply to my own product. I
used this as it helped me learn
and gave me something
interactive to present my
research. However, it was
unreliable when trying to save
this product due to the large
amount of people using it
sometimes leading to the
crashing of the website.
8. Blogger
• I used blogger to help create
pieces of work which could be
accessible to my tutors. I found
that using blogger meant that I
could also review my past work in
which to use it when creating my
product and showing the process
it took to create my product. I
found blogger very useful as it
could be easily accessible
meaning I could update in many
places. I however found it difficult
to do things like change dates for
blog posts and hard to put in the
work as it had to be in the correct
format.
