2. The masthead for my media magazine uses the
‘Calendar Note’ font style from ‘da font’. This font
connotes a pop-like effect which is both youthful and
bold. The colours pink and black, connote a
femininity and excitement, whilst black connotes a
boldness to the magazine and contrasts well with the
pink. I have used the same font style for the heading
of my contents magazine in order to create a
consistent house style and maintain a continuity
within my magazine. By looking at other magazines-I
can see that my masthead resembles a similar colour Research & Planning
Magazines
scheme and font style.

3. The fonts I have used in my magazine have all be downloaded from an online
website called ‘da font’. I have chosen to use this website at it has a broad
variety of different fonts that can be used for a variety of different genres. It
also makes the pages look professional. I have created continuity within my
magazine by using the same fonts throughout my pages. I have chosen fonts
that connote a fun, youthful and exciting feeling. The colour pink connotes a
femininity and the colour purple connotes a more mature effect which
contrasts with the pink.

4. The central image of my front cover is of a female
teenager. I chose this image because it will attract my
chosen audience into buying my magazine. The
clothing reflects summer which creates a contrast to
when it was published (December). This may attract
people to the magazine as summer is very popular with
younger people due to the parties, beach and the
freedom to relax. The colours are bright and vibrant.
The colour blue connotes happiness, inspiration and
tranquility. The bubbles also target a younger audience
due to them being fun and associated with children.
These features help to make a pop theme.

5. The mise-en-scene of my magazine follows the codes
and conventions of other magazines of the same genre
that I have researched. The facial expressions in the
first image connotes a happiness and fun due to the
smiling; also the gestures of the arms up connote a
partying and youthful effect which targets my target
audience. The colours are vibrant and the lighting is
bright and focuses on the facial expressions. The
colour scheme is white, pink and purple-this is
because my target audience are female teenagers. Also
the clothing and props are youthful as bubbles are
quite fun and are associated with children, whilst the
clothing is informal and suitable for teenagers and
young adults.
I have created a house style
by ensuring that the layout of
my pages show a continuity. I
have done this by using the
same colour scheme
throughout and font styles.
My main colour scheme
consists of pink, black and
purple
6. From my research and planning I have found that many pop
magazines have a puff located on the front cover. The puffs
would usually be advertising posters, free make up (lip glosses)
or a code to unlock a free download. I chose to advertise a free
one direction poster as the band is popular with teenagers and
is one of the most successful bands of the past year.
All magazines have a barcode, therefore I added one to
mine to make my magazine look professional. I managed
to download a font to make a barcode from ‘da font’. Also
I added the date, price and website just above as these are
all common features found on a magazine. It also helps to
create a house style with continuity.

8. I have not challenged the codes and conventions of my magazine as
my magazine is quite mainstream and therefore it has the common
features found in other magazines.
