Main Feature
The main feature is linked
to the the main image. The
feature show us that this is
the head story and that we
can find it in a double page
spread in the magazine. The
fond is not very thick or big
but it’s in intense colours
that attracts the audience.

This kind of pop magazine use a lot
of features and also a lot of colours
so it screams out to the audience.

features. It’s a good way to get the
audiences attention fast, especially

is. A smaller image of the

content page and next to the
features is the page
numbers. Creative and easy
to understand for everyone.

content page. We can see
clearly the target audience
(girls) for this magazine in
the title of the letter. The
editor tell about what the
readers can find in the
magazine in a happy
youthful language, by
using words like amaze and
hashtags.
The been categorizing the
content so the audience know
where they can find what they
looking for. They only include the
topics they think is important in
the contents page for the

the expectation the audience

accurate and truthful, stand

bad.” The promises shows

can make the readers feel

4. Double Page Spread
The title of this double page spread is
“From X Factor to WOW Factor!”. This
title tell us that the article is about One
Directions journey after
X Factor. The title is clean with two
colours. The word WOW is pink with a
black background which makes the
word more powerful, it make the
audience understand that it’s a big
difference for One Direction.
In the double page spread with One
Direction they been taking old
interviews they been doing with the
band during their career form 2010 to
2014. They make a summary of their
years since X Factor for the readers and
fans to go back and look at everything
the band has succeeded.
The layout of the page is split into the
rule of thirds so its easier for the
reader to follow and it makes the
layout seem appealing. The boxes
which is divided in months is putted
in the right order, from up to down,
this make it easier for the readers to
follow the years in the right order.
At the left corner they been putting an old picture of
the band from the time on X Factor, on the other side
they show a new picture of them from this year. This
show how they been changing through this years
based on their appearance. The magazine is promoting
the band by showing their product and price on the
double page spread.

Top of the pops magazine. It’s a combined publishing
house which contains the previous assets of Origin
Publishing, Magicalia and BBC Magazines. BBC
Magazines is one of the components that formed
Immediate Media Co and the Top of the pops is
under licence from BBC Worldwide.
6. Ideology – value and beliefs
The main content of Top of the pops is information about celebrities, star gossip,
fashion and beauty. The magazine is aimed to please teens which may have a
crush on a special celebrity, for example One Direction. The magazine give
information about them and try to make the readers come closer to the artists.
Top of the pops Is a magazine that want to bring joy and happiness by using a lot
of colours and creative designs.
7. Audience
The average target audience is teenage girls
around 12 years old. The magazine have made 364
copies and is the no.1 youth and children portfolio
on the market. About 263K people is reading the
magazine and 85% of them is female.
8. Representation - how they are presented
The front cover image represent happiness. The boys is smiling and making funny
faces for the audience to feel joy. They have colourful clothes which bring the the
front cover to life. Also with the boys pointing and holding on to each other in such
friendly way makes them look like nice and friendly boys.
On every image on the contents page is there someone smiling. A nice way to
welcome the readers.
The image in the double page spread is reflecting the same happiness as we can see
on the front cover. The clothes is a bit different on the double page spread and look
more cool and grown up with quite neutral darker colours. They look dominant with
the white background in contrast with their dark clothes.
The bright screaming colours they been choosing for the magazine represent the
taste of a child, because children likes colours it make them feel exited and fascinated.
A lot of colours is used when trying to catch attention from a child, the more colours
the better.
