Key Objectives
Enhance the capacity of researchers and other stakeholders to generate knowledge on climate
change adaptation in the agricultural sector for smallholder farmers
Build the capacity of key stakeholders to disseminate knowledge and strategies on climate
change adaptation in agriculture
Upgrade infrastructure in order to assist higher learning institutions in addressing climate change
adaptation in the agricultural sector
Key Activities
Objective 1:
o Identify training needs of various stakeholders for knowledge generation on climate
change adaptation in the agricultural sector
o Develop training materials
o Conduct short courses on specialized climate related issues at various levels (Decision
makers at Ministerial levels, researchers, TMA staff, NGOs, agricultural extensionists,
stockists, media professionals, and smallholder farmers)
o Initiate the process of integrating climate change issues into higher learning institutions
curricula
o Provide research fellowship for MSc students, with emphasis on gender parity.
o Provide teaching fellowships at the professional level.
o Improve access to journals and other scientific materials.
Objective 2:
o Identify training needs of various stakeholders for dissemination of knowledge and
strategies on climate change adaptation in the agricultural sector
o Conduct training/seminars to key decision-makers; researchers and TMA staff;
NGOs, agricultural extensionists and students, on dissemination of knowledge and
strategies on climate change adaptation in the agricultural sector
o Implement Farmers Field Schools (FFS). Under FFS, farmers and researchers will work
together to test appropriate adaptation strategies to see what is feasible and what is not
o Develop extension/outreach materials for key stakeholders including decision makers,
researchers, TMA staff, NGOs, stockists, agricultural extensionists, and smallholder farmers
Objective 3:
o Update GIS Laboratory
o Upgrade the existing TMA weather station at SUA main campus
o Upgrade the internet service
o Acquire hardware and software for training
