Key Objectives:
1. Form an Advisory Climate Change Panel, with resident Senior Advisor.
2. Review curricular to include climate science and climate change adaptation.
3. Undertake critical research on climate change adaptation within the framework of a competitive grant
scheme.
4. Create regional community of practice on climate change adaptation in Agriculture to increase knowledge-
sharing and collaboration on capacity development, research and policy engagement
5. Engage collaboratively on policy issues related to climate change adaptation.
Key Activities:
1. Select a chair for the panel, advisory members, put in place a coordinating unit
2. Develop Climate change supported and inclusive Undergraduate and MSc programs.
3. Develop a database of agricultural climate change adaptation projects, execute a competetive grant
scheme and award 5 research projects and fund researchers to attend climate change conferences.
4. Participate in review existing networks and present research findings from collaborative efforts.
5. Define clear communications strategy on climate change, train scientists and researchers how to
communicate with government officials, and, attendance at and presentation to select parliament
committees with regional networks.
Key Deliverables:
Given that Makerere University Faculty of Agriculture’s graduates go on to become agricultural science professors,
practitioners and government officials, by training the future scientists, practitioners, and policymakers the
programme strives ultimately to influence the future of climate change work and policy in the region.
Expected Outcomes:
1. Chair for panel selected, committee formed, Coordinating Unit formed with the Programme Coordinator,
Administrator and the Climate Change Expert.
2. Curriculum for both undergraduate course and MSc Program reviewed and approved by senate.
3. Database of ongoing projects on agricultural climate change adaptation in place as well as funding for 5
research projects supported and researchers funded to attended climate change conferences.
4. Existing networks reviewed and results of the study presented for wider collaborative efforts.
5. A clear communication strategy on climate change developed, scientists and researchers trained on how to
communicate with policy makers and engage with policy institutions such as the Parliament
