Star Wars Hero's Journey Analysis
In 1977 an amazing, adventure filled, science fiction film was released by director George Lucas,
starting one to many obsessions called Star Wars. It was the first of many episodes to come, they
named it Episode 4– A New Hope. In the beginning it shows the Rebel forces being attacked by the
Empire on a spaceship to receive plans that the Rebels have came up with. A princess whose name is
Leia was in a hurry to make sure they do not take the plans so she puts them, and a recording of her
explaining what they are, in a little robot names R2D2; she then puts him and his robot friend C3PO
on an escape pod and blasts them out of the spaceship which gets notified to Darth Vader, the one
leading the Empire's attack, but he thinks nothing of it because ... Show more content on

There are ten steps of the journey, and they are all very important to shaping the hero, the steps are:
conscious realm, unconscious realm, the call, departure, threshold, task–tribulator–trial,
transformation of consciousness, ritual, and return. The first step is in the conscious realm, which is
presented by Luke being on his home planet or land. It will transfer over to the unconscious realm as
the second step ,when Luke and his friends leave land on a spaceship and starts traveling in space to
the Death Star. Next is the calls, usually there is just one but in Star Wars there is a mini call and a
major call. The mini call is Luke cleaning up R2D2 and find the plans that Leia sent to go to
Obiwon. Luke thinks she is beautiful and she is a princess so he wants to do something that can help
save her. The major call is after Obi–Wan, or Ben, saved Luke the plans is presented to him, Obi–
Wan wants Luke to help him save the princess, Luke declines his offer because he can't leave his
Aunt and Uncle. After the call is the departure which is Luke, Ben, Han–Solo, Chewbacca, C3PO
and R2D2 trying to leave the planet in a hurry on a spaceship but the storm troopers is trying to
prevent them from leaving because they want R2D2. Eventually, they beat them and was able to
leave and enter into space somewhat safely, getting past the threshold. The tasks are saving Leighia,
getting away and out if the Death Star, escaping the Empires spaceships; which he did very
heroically. The tribulator is his mentor, Obi–Wan, dying and with him losing so many people in few
days it helps the trial come very easily. Now the trial is Luke becoming a fighter pilot for the Rebel
forces to destroy the Death Star. Now the most important part is the transformation of
consciousness, because it is usually at the climax and the changing point of the hero. The
representation of this is when Luke stops using

Star Wars : A New Hope
Much of the Star Wars ' credibility and popularity is owed to the richness of its fictional world as
defined by writer/director George Lucas. In an interview, Lucas states that the original idea for Star
Wars was modelled on the movies of his childhood, The "Flash Gordon movie serials and Edgar
Rice Burroughs' John Carter of Mars Series of books." The mise–en–scène in Star Wars plays a
vitally important role, so the question explored in this essay is how the use of mise–en–scène adds
depth to the themes in Star Wars: Episode IV–A New Hope (1977), paying particular attention to
'good versus evil'. This theme stands out in because it speaks to one of the oldest struggles of all, the
battle between right and wrong.
A main aspect of mise–en–scène that plays an influential role in defining the difference between
characters that have been designated as good and evil is the use of fabric choices and the costumes
they wear.
Bordwell and Thomson say in Film Art an Introduction:
"costume is often coordinated with setting. Since the filmmaker usually wants to emphasize the
human figures, setting may provide more or less neutral background, while costume helps pick out
the characters. Color design is particularly important here."
This is demonstrated by the protagonists dressed in pure white materials. Luke wears an outfit that
resembles a karate gi with a leather utility belt slung at his hip, painting Luke as a simple farm boy.
During the film, he transitions through several

Technology In Star Wars
Technology today is changing rapidly, and we are transitioning into a more futuristic society to
which we can start developing to a brighter future for the human race. We are emerging to a society
that constantly produces the most modern and greatest pieces of technology. We are creating
reusable rockets, robots that teach each other's, immune engineering, and cars that can drive
themselves. Imagine thirty or forty years from now what we can build to produce a more successful
society. The movie Star Wars could be instrumental in the development of something great for our
society. We could use the movie to build a great and powerful society that could benefit

In the 1980s, special effects started becoming more popular in film making. Movies, such as, Die
Hard, Back To The Future and Lethal Weapon would have not become so popular as they did
without Star Wars. Because of the movie, weapons and robots began making their way into real–life.
For example, "a Hong Kong company made an ultra–powerful handheld laser that looks like a
lightsaber. Walking robots resembling the giant AT–ATs that Imperial forces used to attack rebels are
being developed for the military to carry equipment where conventional vehicles can't go. The U.S.
Army's Future Soldier Initiative went as far as to draft plans for armor that looked much like what
Imperial storm troopers wore, although in light of the probable cost, they face an uncertain future"
(Choi). There was another Star Wars movie that influenced a technology company. The chief
technology officer for Microsoft demonstrated a "Death Star" bug–zapper at a technology
conference that was designed to use lasers to shoot down airborne mosquitoes. The purpose of the
design was not just to crush microscopic rebels, but to help prevent certain diseases such as malaria
(Choi). If everything goes well for Microsoft, a future influenced by Star Wars could go on to save
lives. Force fields were also used in the movie, which were energy shields that were designed to
protect soldiers, machines and spacecraft that were in battle. "Very similar technology had recently
been patented by American aerospace companies. The use of levitation technology (such as hover–
bikes) has also been developed for military purposes"

Critique of Asimov's "I, Robot" Essay
Isaac Asimov thrills the reader with his story–telling ability in "I, Robot".  Of course, many of
Asimov's ideas provide a ploy to add suspense to the story.  However, when the plot
completely disagree with the laws which he himself has written, the story becomes confusing.
On the surface, it appears that his stories make legitimate and logical sense, as well as
entertaining the audience in a magnificent way.  However, any deeper analysis of the story
will prove that there are several significant flaws in the work.  This can best be shown in one
of Asimov's earlier stories, "Reason."  In this story, the first and second of the three laws of
robotics are broken.  It is never explained how it would be ... Show more content on

&nbsp;<p> Let me pause for a minute to explain. &nbsp;Has Powell really given an order?
&nbsp;Do the 3 laws require a robot to believe what a human tells it? &nbsp; The answer, I believe,
is yes. &nbsp;According to the first law, a robot is not allowed to let a human being come to harm.
&nbsp; This not only includes physical harm, but includes mental harm as well. &nbsp;Mental harm
can take place in numerous ways. &nbsp; For example, in this story, Powell and Donovan are told by
Cutie that their beliefs are wrong in that the only point to their existence is to serve the Master.
&nbsp; This idea is very distressing to Powell and Donovan. &nbsp;Donovan even begins to
question his own beliefs, "Say, Greg, you don't suppose he's right about all this, do you?"
&nbsp; Therefore, a robot should never be able to tell a human that he is wrong because it will hurt
the human mentally. &nbsp; This idea is demonstrated in another of Asimov's stories called "Liar."
&nbsp; In this story, a mind–reading robot is unable to tell the truth because the truth is detrimental
to the mental well–being of several of the characters in the story. &nbsp; Therefore, it is imperative
for &nbsp;a robot to agree with what a human says because it would otherwise contradict the first
law. &nbsp;<p> Once again, according to the second law, a robot must obey

Humanoid Robots
According to Heather Knight, back in the initiation of the industrial revolution, robotic machines
meant automation; a field that requested devices to perform and serve more efficiently than
humans. In these modern days, technology and innovation underscored a different design obligation:
how robots and people can work better together. But the problem that coincides is, humanoid robots
are portraying a more anthropoid appearance which makes it look too horrifying to humans: the
sentiment whether or not humanized robots would bond with human beings. In fact, a vague social
design can stipulate people not to construe or interact with machines. According to Uncanny Valley,
a useful rubric introduced by robotic designers explained that making a device that looks similar to
humans is substantial to an extent. That said, humanoid robots would retain prolonging in a
discomfort zone until technology achieves anthropoid likeness that emblems all, emotions and
intelligence similar to humans.Zombies, for example, portrayed the human descriptive. But people
feel intimidated by them even though they are unrealistic objects. Why? Because the behavior is not
entirely human, and thus, human perceived them differently, Knight said.Thereby, the
interdisciplinary of the eunuchs in the medieval Islamic empires serves to promote a coherent
portrayal; displaying how the social performance of the elite slaves had incorporated to envisage
them, identically, by the view of the freemen.Regardless of

Luke Skywalker Research Paper
The Leadership of Darth Vader and Luke Skywalker A long time ago in a galaxy far, far away...
there were two exceptional leaders by the name of Darth Vader, and Luke Skywalker. As many
know, these two men are the leading antagonist and protagonist of the immensely popular franchise,
Star Wars. For those that do not know, Darth Vader is the villain who leads a heinous army known as
The Empire. Through methods of fear and intimidation, Vader fabricates a mega–weapon capable of
destroying entire planets known as the Death Star. Luke Skywalker defies all odds as he uses the
methods of stimulation and team building to try to lead the Rebels in an uprising against the tyrants.
Each of these leaders is very successful in their own unique methods. ... Show more content on

Transformational leaders "provide vision and a sense of mission" (Bass, 1990, p.22). Luke
Skywalker was excellent at this. He had a unique ability to rally people from hundreds of different
worlds for the single cause of ending Imperial Oppression. One of his primary mission statements is
to "believe in your cause." According to Bass (1990), this method inspires people to have a passion
for what they do, which usually leads to the job being done better and more thoroughly. This type of
leadership also adds a sense of independence to the follower. They will begin to think and act on
their own, progressively turning into a leader of their own followers. Darth Vader on the other hand,
uses the transactional approach by inspiring by means of rewards and punishment. If a
Stormtrooper, which is one of the empire's soldiers, doesn't complete his orders, then Vader very
well might put him to death. If he does perform his duty, then he will get the reward of continuing
his life. This is obviously an extreme example of transactional leadership, but the idea of it stays true
to goal–based

The Treaty Of Versailles On The German State
After The Great War, the citizens of Germany looked for a new hope. The Treaty of Versailles
wrecked the German state and morale seemingly beyond repair with its harsh terms of negotiation.
Of course, the German people expected some reparations to be demanded, but they were shocked
when the meeting of the Allied Powers at the Paris Peace Conference resulted in the creation of the
Treaty of Versailles, a harsh, demanding cry of retaliation. The Treaty of Versailles effectively
forced the return of all lands taken during the war to their rightful governments, including all
overseas colonies, which meant a loss of a symbol of world power status. Most of these demands for
land return were unsurprising to the German people, yet still they took a toll on the German morale.
To further damage Germany's power, the Treaty also called for a mass disarmament of the German
military. Though promised that this was "merely a first step in a worldwide process of
disarmament", the German army and navy were severely reduced, and their ability to produce
military weaponry and submarines was greatly restricted. Yet, even these harsh plans to reduce
German power did not have the greatest effect on German confidence. The most damaging portions
of the Treaty of Versailles were its honor clauses. These allowed individuals to be tried as war
criminals and, even more injurious, established in writing that Germany was guilty for the majority
of violence and aggression during the war and called for

In 2014 the Organization of Petroleum Exporting Countries, or OPEC decided to lower the oil price.
The reason the OPEC nations decided to overproduce and flood the market was to strangle the oil
industry of the United States. This low price would force the oil businesses to lower their prices to
compete and therefore income would be reduced. The OPEC nations would have a majority of
control over the oil market if the US oil industry fades or is driven out of business. The OPEC

Why Analytics Is An Unavoidable Segment For An...
These are the days where we invest most of our time to get things done sitting in front of the
computer rather that running from one place to the other. It has brought a revolution in the way we
handle things. It saves money, labor and its benefits are umpteen. When the demand and the interest
by the public are steering towards the use of online services, it has become an unavoidable segment
for any organization to emphasis more on it to attract its customers with a better user experience.
It's quite common that every task that we perform, we check whether it is being executed in the
expected way. Ultimately, if it's going in a right path well and good but the actual question arises
when it's the other way. This is the point where analytics come into picture. The need for analytics is
very much known to us because it can be one of the most powerful driving factors to tune the
performance of an organization's processes, strategies and uplifting revenue.

understanding and optimizing web usage. However, Web analytics is not just a process for
measuring web traffic but can be used as a tool for business and market research, and to assess and

Sound, camera shots and mise-en-scene; how they convey the...
"Star Wars" was arguably the first in a new breed of high concept, high budget sci–fi action films. It
was directed by George Lucas and originally released in only a few cinemas in 1977. However, the
buzz around the film grew, and it is now one of the highest grossing films of all time, and along with
its sequels, prequels and re–mastered re–releases, has a large cult following. I feel this is because of
Lucas` ability to engage the audience through careful use of sound and camera technique; The use of
the scrolling story in space sets up many audience expectations, that the action will be set in space,
and that it will base around a struggle between the rebels and the Empire. Narration is a fairly
formal method of exposition, linked to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
We also realize they are important because their bright metallic colouring makes them stand out
from the background of uniformed rebels. Their voices are quite comical; C3P0's English accent is
so camp and inappropriate to the action packed setting that the audience find themselves laughing.
R2D2's language is not easily decipherable, and so many laughs are gained by inferring what he has
said by C3P0's response. This section introduces the audience to the idea that these characters will
provide the comic relief for the film, and indeed, their presence in this section allows the audience to
relieve a little of their tension by laughing, this is important because of the family based nature of
the film, parents do not want their young children to be too scared. The camera moves to a tight shot
of the door, framing it within the screen, showing that all attention is now diverted to it. The sparks
from the cutters are exaggerated , to emphasise their importance, and run around the screen, creating
the impression that the intruders are breaking into the audience's real world, further allying them
with the rebels. The Storm troopers break through, and an eye line shot from their perspective is
used to show the rebels firing back; connoting a "new perspective" has arrived. The cutters continue,
and when the camera cuts back, they have created a smoke screen , and enigma is created as to what
will appear next. At this point, all sound cuts to

Analysis Of The Movie ' Lego '
Lego is a billion dollar company providing toys to children all over the world and is a source of fun
for families everywhere. However a recent form of Legos takes the place of an anti–Nazi and
Holocaust lecture. The Lego Movie was released in February 2014 and achieved a rating of 96%
from Rotten Tomatoes. The movie was an instant hit, with 6 major awards and 11 nominations.
However, in the movie there are silent messages being sent to kids about how bad the Holocaust can
be. The connections between the historic event and the movie are featured throughout the film.
The Lego movie is about an average man named Emmet, who lives in an utopian society ruled by a
leader called, President Business. After working at a construction site, Emmet finds the Peace of
Resistance, an item said to be able to stop a weapon called the Kragle. He learns that President
Business plans on using the Kragle to destroy the world on a day he calls "Tako Tuesday", and that
only the "Special" can defeat him. With a girl named Wyldstyle, Emmet teams up with Master
Builders to stop President Business from using the "Kragle" to destroy the world. While he is doing
this he helps himself and others to learn what it means to be special.
President Business represents the German dictator, Adolf Hitler. Both of the men are antagonists
who tried to create their perfect worlds through the emphasis of nationalism. Like Hitler, President

Halo The Fall Of Reach Summary
My favorite book is Halo: The Fall Of Reach written by Eric Nylund. The book was published
October 30,2001. The book is based off of my favorite, and one of the most profitable games in the
video game market called Halo. In the Story, Halo The Fall of Reach, it begins with the Glassing of
a Planet. Glassing in halo means the destruction, or Ending, of a planet. The plot is the main
character called Master Chief, also know as Petty Officer Sierra 117, trying to save the planet called
Reach. The planet is under attack by the Covenant, which is a group of alien species that created an
empire. The glassing of the planet is the start of the Spartan 2 super soldier program. This program
was in response to trying to stop invasions from the aliens. The story includes many battles and
losses for both sides. While in battle, one of the doctors, named Halsey, gives Master Chief, a super

Major Differences In The Movie 300
"THIS IS SPARTA" a famous quote from the movie 300 (2006) about the ferocious battles of the
Greco Persian wars across the western Mediterranean. Persia was the dominant empire of this time
because of conquering and expanding borders. They had the largest army of the time with around
700,000–800,000 soldiers. Sparta on the other hand was a smaller still powerful city state with
highly trained Military personnel. I think there are many minor differences that alter and change the
way you see the battle. Some of those minor changes in the movie not in the real battle are the
Persians used rhinos and elephants to ride into battle, Xerxes does not go into battle as seen in the
movie and the Spartans did not fight with any armor unlike the real battle. ... Show more content on

Within the mighty Persian empire they never had any animals used for combat. During the hiding in
the shade scene, it showed the Persian archers shooting of what looks to be one million plus arrows
which is a huge overstatement because for one there was never that many arrows to block out the
sun, and second the wooden arrows would not stick in the metal shields the Spartans held. Another
minor difference within the battle was in the movie it showed Xerxes in the front lines of the battle.
In the movie Xerxes Talked to Leonidas and even reasoned for him to be warlord of Sparta and
obviously Leonidas refused. In reality Xerxes was far behind enemy lines where he couldn't get a
spear in the cheek. Xerxes was also never that tall or never wore those clothes he was much shorter,
fatter and wore fine silk clothes. Last minor difference was in the movie the Spartan soldiers were
almost naked when going into battle. Actual spartan soldiers were covered head to toe in metal
armor and never took their helmets off during combat. Also the Immortals looked like scream with a
chrome face the real ones looked like normal soldiers just with heavier

Technology Negative Essay
Defined as the "purposeful application of information in the design, production, and utilization of
goods and services, and in the organization of human activities", technology has many applications
in today's world (WebFinance, Inc.). Whether the newest cellular device, video gaming console or
tablet, or even some new vaccine or cure for a disease, technology is meant to make humans' lives
easier, faster, less stressful, more enjoyable and ultimately better, and make society a better place.
Technology grows with humans and their needs and wants. When humans needed some sort of way
to protect themselves, gather resources more easily, and farm, humans developed stone tools and
weapons to use. Windmills, steam engines, use of petroleum, and the harnessing of electricity made
life easier, faster and less stressful – whether that energy is used for textiles, metallurgy, agriculture,
or transport, the harnessing of wind, steam, petroleum and electricity truly helped society grow and
the individual prosper. Later, militaries had better weapons to fight with and technology to use
(radar, sonar) to use against their opponents, and hospitals had pharmaceuticals, anesthetics,
antiseptics, and better examination techniques (X–Rays, radiation therapy, blood transfusions).
While it can be useful, many question the usefulness and application of technology that seemingly
does not help society and the individual and instead are a detriment. After World War II, some
questioned the

Star Wars: A New Hope: Movie Analysis
In the movie "Star Wars Episode Four: A New Hope", the film George Lucas uses the archetypes the
hero, the mentor, and the tyrant to convey the theme that we as humans grow and change as people
because of possible people or events that occur throughout our lives. How this is shown is
throughout the movie and through the main stars of the film that are well know as Luke Skywalker
and Anakin Skywalker/Darth Vader. In the film we see important events that perceive the change in
the characters.
At start of the film, Luke hasn't learned that he has the ability to use the force and become a jedi

force in a correct way to defeat the forces of the dark side. Here Luke is informed about Darth Vader
that leads The Empire, and how he is the overseer of the darkside. Luke perceives this as a force that
he must defeat in order to save the galaxy. He soon starts training with yoda to grow stronger
physically and mentally. He is taught how to use a lightsaber and how to use the force. Though he
can perform some of these tasks well, he still can't use the force quite well because he hasn't learned
the lesson that he needed to know, which is to concentrate and not give up. Luke doubts himself and
starts to not believe in yoda's words but soon recovers as his mentor gives up on him. The ability to
learn and not give up even when others do is a quality of a hero that Luke Skywalker learned. This
also further proves Luke's will to change his life because he knew he was something more, the event

Eunuchs
In the medieval Islamdom, the government was to employ castration, mandatory celibacy and
kidnapping to procure loyal eunuchs to serve in pre–eminent governmental positions. Thus, this
social practice was to destroy existing family, affiliation and to deploy them into a less
organizationally threatening status; by creating a family–like atmosphere within their place of duty.
But how can this be related or applied to humanoid robots? Especially, in accordance to Leopoldina
Fortunati, the book author of "what happened to body–to–body sociability" that one of the problems
that coincide in artificial intelligence; the bond between companionability and information and
communication technologies."Social bond and relationship are arbitrarily used synonymously with
sociability, creating much confusion because they refer to different beliefs," she pointed. The
correlation between eunuchs and humanoid robots can be construed via their servitude, cohorts in

Alien Encounters : The Limition Of Aliens In Science Fiction
Questions on the limitation of human identity are re–examined in unexpected meetings with
mysterious beings/objects, which is also the topic of Chapter 2: Alien Encounters. The word "alien"
describes the oddness, abnormality, or even extraordinary of mysterious beings, human groups,
animal species, or machines. "The concept of the alien in science fiction could be understood in
three overlapping senses. It could refer to startlingly different beings, sometimes from other planets;
it could refer to social estrangement [...]; or again, it could refer to a quality of the narrative itself"
(Seed 27). Alien invasions, sympathetic aliens, and languages are topics of alien encounter theme.
"Alien invasion narratives" (Seed 31) often focus on the idea: "conquer or be conquered" (Seed 32,
42). The subtlety of these fictions was the appearance of the objects (Seed 32). Occasionally, the
aliens entered the scene suddenly and dominantly like what happens in The Quatermass Experiment
(1955) – an infectious virus, carried by an astronaut, spread uncontrollably after his rocket crashes
in the middle of Wimbledon Common (Seed 32). Opposingly, a mysterious object in Quatermass 2
(1957) gradually reveals itself along with the development of the story. "Alien invasion narratives"
(Seed 31) and movies in the 1950s were largely influenced by John Wyndham, "who followed a
strategy of embedding his science fiction subjects in the circumstantial detail of daily life" (Seed
33). Opposing to alien

advantages are noticeable, but so are the consequences. In the world of ever–changing technology,
can human beings survive and thrive as a whole, or are they destined to rip each other apart as they
have for centuries? In recent years, social media has had a tremendous impact on the society as a
whole. With just a few clicks, anyone can see what someone is doing, thinking, saying, eating, and
even where they are at, almost at all times. Social media can bring friends and family that live far
away from one another closer together. It can expand a person's set of friends and their lifestyle. It
can get them to experience new things, people, and cultures that they normally would not have
known before. Indeed, social media can do great things for the planetary culture, but, could it be
harming people at the same time? Look at the times before social media was the "next big thing." If
people wanted to know where someone else was, what they were doing, or wanted to talk to them
about their day, they called them, or

Starcraft Strategy
1) Starcraft Starcraft is a real–time strategy game with an intricate sci–fi story based between 3
different races (Terran – Human, Protoss – Humanoid Alien, Zerg – Alien). The games proceed
quickly compared to other strategy games, which means players must know exactly what needs to
be done for the first few minutes of the game. 2) Warcraft III Warcraft is a real–time strategy game
with many progressive and intertwined campaigns in single–player mode. The game features 4
unique races (Humans, Orcs, Night Elves, Undead). The human race is also called the "Alliance",
because the race also contains dwarves and elves. Additionally, the game incorporates a day/night
clock which affects vision along with other abilities. 3) Age of Empires (series) There are 3 games

The maps are space, ground, and underground, which allows a huge variety of power distribution in

game. There are a variety of towns scattered in the map and each town has its own race. A player
will start with one particular race, but as it captures new towns, the player will gain access to more
and more races. Troops can only be led by generals as only generals appear on the map. Each race
has its own type of general and their own advantages, which makes it important for players to train
various generals to gain superiority. 9) Stronghold (series) The defining feature of the Stronghold
series is that players build up their castle piece by piece. As a result, this game is primarily for
gamers who like city building, because ultimately, your castle determines whether or not you will

Summary Of Cinder By Marissa Meyer
Cinder is the first book out of four from the "Lunar Chronicles" by Marissa Meyer. This whole
series is a fairytale story with a huge twist. Mrs. Meyer took fairy tale characters the ones who
seemed weaker or not as strong as other ones and made them butt kicking heroes. In the first book
its cinder (Cinderella). In the second book its scarlet (beauty and the beast). In the third book its
cress (Rapunzel). And the fourth is winter (snow white). Each book has the main princess and

Everyone is faced with difficult obstacles at some point in his or her life, whether or not they are
able to overcome them can define them as a person. Every story has a plot, but a plot is determined
by the characters and their actions to events that take place in the story. According to the article
"Science Fiction Images of Computers and Robots" written by Patricia S. Warrick, many of the plots
in Asimov's novels depend on "computers and robots [along with] space exploration and
development" (54). Characters in the novels written by Isaac Asimov have to figure out the
capabilities of new technology, understand other characters, and find solutions to problems with no

The author will present the characters to readers and tell the readers a little bit about the main
characters. Then, to make the story interesting, the author will introduce his or her readers to the
main conflict. Secondly, the suspense will rise in the story as the conflict is trying to be resolved.
Next, the characters in the story will reach the climax where they will change in some way, good or
bad. At the climax of the story, the reader will be given many hints and clues as to what will happen
at the end of the story. Finally, the resolution to the conflict is given to the average reader, but the
advanced reader had already analyzed the information he or she was given and figured out how the
story had ended. In The Science Fiction of Isaac Asimov, Joseph F. Patrouch explains that "Asimov
follows the standard pattern of presenting a [character] with a problem, letting the
reader....accumulate data, [allow the character find the solution to the conflict],....and finally letting
the [character] reveal the solution to [the reader]" (72). What makes Asimov's plots much more
interesting is that he has different parts to his novels that may take place decades and even centuries
apart. Also, Asimov will use the dialog of the characters to move the plot along instead of action
scenes. With the creation of civilization on a new planet, the first mayors of Terminus were faced

What Was Joseph's Attitude To Religion During The...
The Enlightenment was an intellectual and philosophical movement that dominated the world of
ideas in Europe during the 18th century. Frederick the Great of Prussia and Joseph II of Austria both
had a focus on educating their citizens. However, both had similar actions to religion during the
Enlightenment, both advocated for religious freedom. Frederick and Joseph differed in option when
it came to the serfs of their country. Joseph's support for changing ideals led to lasting change in
Europe. By issuing the Robot Patent Decree in 1789, Joseph paved the way for complete abolition
of Feudalism in 1848. Joseph made elementary education compulsory for all boys and girls, and
higher education on practical lines was offered for a select few. Joseph ... Show more content on

Joseph II outlawed the buying of 'rustic' land by the nobility and at the same time giving the
rusticalists security of tenure. His motive was to prevent the increase in 'dominical' land, which paid
fewer taxes to the government. This led to the survival of the peasantry, with rustic land still having
the robot. In 1789 it was abolished by Joseph II, however Leopold II restored it when his brother
Joseph II died in 1790. The abolition of robot during the Revolutions of 1848 broke the last legal tie
which held the peasants to the land, and was seen as a great victory by the peasants. Frederick took a
medieval view of the merits of social caste. Although he abolished serfdom on the royal domains, he
did little to loosen the bonds of serfdom generally, except to forbid the sale of landless serfs in East
Prussia in 1773. When he gave the peasants material assistance and urged them to become literate,
his aims were utilitarian. Even the favored Junkers did not escape Frederick's bureaucratic
absolutism. Although he appointed only Junkers as army officers, he discouraged their marrying to

How the Mighty Fall: Four Problems That Sunk Rome Rome was like the Titanic. It was majestic
and powerful, but, like the Titanic, it sunk (or in this case, fell). Several problems are believed to
have led up to this historic event, and, as of now, there are ten theories about the fall of Rome. They
are as follows: political corruption, unemployment, the decline in morals and values, the rise of
Christianity, urban decay, environmental and public health problems, the barbarian invasion,
inflation, excessive military spending, and inferior technology. However, this essay shall only
address four theories based on a recent survey of four history classes. In these classes, students were
asked, after learning about the fall of Rome and the ten theories, to vote on which theories caused
the worst damage. Political corruption, the rise of Christianity, the decline in morals and values, and

This theory was both mentally and physically destructive to Rome. Every day, Roman citizens
would spend their time in the Colosseum to watch other people fight and die. They saw the
gladiators fight and kill for survival, and soon, no one thought there was any value in other lives – or
anything wrong with murder. Due to this way of thinking, the streets were dangerous, as they were
filled with violence. Another issue caused by the decline in morals and values was the difference
between the rich and the poor. Upperclassmen would throw extravagant parties with equally
extravagant amounts of food. In fact, those at such a party would eat until they became sick. And
even when that happened, they would keep eating. Meanwhile, on the streets, those in the lower
class would be starving to death. People were dying – in the Colosseum, on the streets, in the
military – but no one cared. The decline in morals and values may be second, but it still was

Isaac Asimov, Mind of a Child Essay
Throughout history man has always had a vivid imagination. In prehistoric times, old man used to
write stories, tales and such upon their cave dwelling walls. These were performed through the use
of symbols. These symbols, called hieroglyphics, portrayed the thoughts and creativity of their
authors. Boszhardt once said while talking about the cave pictures in Wisconsin, &quot; When I first
visited the cave, I was skeptical about the possible art that Daniel had written to me about, But once

Posthuman During the second half of the semester, we have been looking at games, novels, and

media technologies at the borders of video games and novels. One of the takeaways from this it that
objects themselves matter at the level of representation, code, design, and system, and they
transform, affect, shape, and or recede from our attempts to apprehend them. We aren't meant to live

She was able to do this because she possessed thousands of bodies, all of them genetically identical,
all of them linked to each other" (Leckie 95). This is a scary thought, but it may happen if
technology reaches that point. But, if one was able to correctly assemble this kind of figure, how
would we be able to tell a difference? According to Katherine Hayes, she says "In the posthuman,
there are no essential differences or absolute demarcations between bodily existences and computer
simulation, cybernetic mechanism and biological organism, robot teleology and human goals"
(Hayes 3). They would blend right in within our society, without anyone else knowing. She
continues by saying, "...a conceptual framework that constituted humans, animals, and machines as
information–processing devices receiving and transmitting signals to affect goal–directed behavior"
(Hayes 37). The way to create a posthuman like figure, is by being able to process information

World War II And Japan
World War II and Japan The Greater Japanese Empire was one of the fastest growing and most
dominant world powers of the late 1800's and early 1900's. After being created as a result of the
Meiji Restoration of 1868, the Empire of Japan grew quite well and prospered until it was dissolved
in 1947. Although Japan experienced a long period of economic strife, massive destruction and a
switch from a military to a consumer based economy, after World War II, the country emerged
stronger than ever and became a serious player on the world economic stage. While scholars have
debated World War II's impact on Japan's economy, ultimately WWII allowed Japan to emerge with
adaptive and innovative manufacturing capabilities. Japan occupied Vietnam and joined the Axis
Powers in 1940, which led to an oil boycott from the United States and Great Britain (Ike 5). In
1941 Japan captured the Dutch East Indies, and after the December attack on Pearl Harbor, they
were officially at war with the Allied Powers in the Second World War. The attack on Pearl Harbor
resulted in over 2,400 American deaths and four sunken ships. On the same day, Japan initiated the
Southern Expansion, which was a massive invasion of Guam, Hong Kong, and the Philippines, in
addition to a few other East Asian territories (Kato 57). During the next few months Japan was able
to deliver a series of blows to Allied forces in the region by taking over American bases and sinking
British ships. Japan's momentum began to

Career we want and how technology is used in it My name is Jay Lee. I am a student right now at
Milton High School. I formally attended FSA and right 13 years old. In college I am planning to
take neuroscience, robotics, and architecture. I intend to become a professor like my father, and do
my own research I want. Neuroscience is science that's about nerve system in the brain. In
neuroscience you can make the brain control using its nerve system other machines like exo–

could not walk all of his life and walk again in front of the entire crowd using the exo–skeleton.
Robotics is making robots that help mankind to things easier. For example we can make a robot save
someone who is in danger and not have any life of innocent firefighters or the rescuers sacrificed. In
architecture I would like to design buildings and other sightseeing places. The study of neuroscience
increased exponentially due to increase of due to advance of advances in molecular,
electrophysiology, and computational neuroscience. It has helped neuroscientist research all aspect
of the brain nerve system: how it functions, malfunctions, or changes. The study of neuroscience can

Three Laws Of Robot Essay
The Effectiveness of Isaac Asimov`s Three Laws of Robotics
In 1950 a collection of short stories by Isaac Asimov gathered under a name I, Robot was first
published commencing a whole new era in the field of fiction. "Asimov first explicitly introduced
the Three Laws of Robotics in the short story "Runaround," published in the March 1942 issue of
Astounding Science Fiction. In his 1985 novel Robots and Empire, Asimov formulated an additional
Zeroth Law, to stand above the original three: "No harm to humanity, or, allowing any harm to
humanity by inaction." Other science fiction writers have explored similar ideas, sometimes
anticipating Asimov's laws and sometimes expanding on them." (Wallach 219) It was the first book

Indeed, a robot should have some system of self–preservation reflexes as long as they do not
interfere with its prime responsibilities. But, as mentioned before, robots can under certain
circumstances interpret the Laws differently and what is more important can be seen as a better
version of a human being. Asimov (3) wrote through the words of Susan Calvin: "Then you don't
remember a world without robots. There was a time when humanity faced the universe alone and
without a friend. Now he has creatures to help him; stronger creatures than himself, more faithful,
more useful, and absolutely devoted to him. Mankind is no longer alone. Have you ever thought of it
that way? ... They're a cleaner, better breed than we are." In this sense robots deserve to be
considered as equals to humans and even more than that, as superior beings. Robots that serve are
just a first step on the way to developing artificial intelligence opening new possibilities to no end.
However, Asimov`s Three Laws do not go beyond the definition of robots as slaves, which,
considering human history, is immoral and

The axis of a gyroscope is capable of maintaining balance due to an equilibrium of a spinning wheel
that resists change in direction.
Inside BB–8's spherical body is a circular, weighed "base plate" with omniwheels (omni means
multi). This base plate, which I will call segway, houses a gyroscope which constantly spins with
motor and rechargeable battery, to control the movement of BB–8 during its lifetime. As BB–8 rolls
along the ground, the gyroscope attempts to maintain alignment, specifically to keep its head
towards the top of the body.
From the center of the segway we have a rod as BB–8's "neck" going up, with a servo in the middle,
continuing to the top with a magnet that keeps BB–8's head at the top. The head can tilt because the
inner "neck" can bend. The neck's tilting action is controlled by a servo. A servo is a small device
that looks like a mechanized box with a bendable "arm", much like a remote control joystick. The
servo receives an electrical input signal that changes the angle of the arm. This angle is called the
output. Normally the servo arm is set stationary at 90° (straight up), with a range of 0° to 180°. The
angle of the arm would change based on the input. Because of this, we now know how BB–8's head
tilts. That's why when BB–8's body rolls, the head can tilt yet remains securely on the top of BB–8's
body.

the Cold war, the media became an extremely influential tool, especially in film. It was used as a

What will the world be in a hundred years? That is a question that runs through everyone's head at

also draw cards spreading disease. These cards represent cities. When a card is drawn, a disease
cube is placed on that city. When a city is to receive its fourth disease cube, an outbreak occurs and
the disease spreads to every adjacent city. Players win Pandemic when all four diseases are cured.
Players lose when there are no more cubes of a color to place on the board when one is needed, no
more cards to draw when one is needed, or there have been eight outbreaks. Pandemic is truly

opinions and we all have our favorites. Yes, Star Wars is just fiction and most say that Star Trek is
more realistic but that doesn't really change the 'Wow' factor of Star Wars, numbers or no numbers,
theoretically correct or not, Star Wars is undeniably awesome. I will do my best to elaborate why.
First, let's start off with the Millennium Falcon versus the Enterprise. Star Wars has the Millennium
Falcon which is an YT–1300 light freighter and dates way back even before when the Clone Wars
happened. Which is why it's amazing since during the clone wars everything was being destroyed by
the Empire. It's amazing how it survived. While in Star Trek their ship known as the Enterprise,
which is also iconic, but why does the Millennium Falcon win over it? Simply because the
Millennium Falcon is just more awesome. In terms, of the structure of both ships the Millenium
Falcon is not awkward looking while the Enterprise looks more like a frisbee on a stand. ... Show

R2D2 may just make beeps and shrieks but that is why everyone love this astromech droid. It may
not be all close to human but it has become one of the reasons why Star Wars is so iconic and
awesome. R2D2 may be a robot but for a robot it has a mind of its own. Another iconic droid from
Star Wars is C3PO, "human cyborg relations" who was invented by Anakin Skywalker. C3PO is a
protocol droid, again, this character is non–human yet what's makes this character amazing is how it
is able to think on it's own, to have its freedom and moral judgement. In Star Trek they also have
their very own Data, an AI and synthetic life form. He acts and looks human but, it just makes this
character almost like another human character. R2D2 and C3PO may be just droids but they carry
their characters as droids which makes them

  • 3. Star Wars Hero's Journey Analysis In 1977 an amazing, adventure filled, science fiction film was released by director George Lucas, starting one to many obsessions called Star Wars. It was the first of many episodes to come, they named it Episode 4– A New Hope. In the beginning it shows the Rebel forces being attacked by the Empire on a spaceship to receive plans that the Rebels have came up with. A princess whose name is Leia was in a hurry to make sure they do not take the plans so she puts them, and a recording of her explaining what they are, in a little robot names R2D2; she then puts him and his robot friend C3PO on an escape pod and blasts them out of the spaceship which gets notified to Darth Vader, the one leading the Empire's attack, but he thinks nothing of it because ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... There are ten steps of the journey, and they are all very important to shaping the hero, the steps are: conscious realm, unconscious realm, the call, departure, threshold, task–tribulator–trial, transformation of consciousness, ritual, and return. The first step is in the conscious realm, which is presented by Luke being on his home planet or land. It will transfer over to the unconscious realm as the second step ,when Luke and his friends leave land on a spaceship and starts traveling in space to the Death Star. Next is the calls, usually there is just one but in Star Wars there is a mini call and a major call. The mini call is Luke cleaning up R2D2 and find the plans that Leia sent to go to Obiwon. Luke thinks she is beautiful and she is a princess so he wants to do something that can help save her. The major call is after Obi–Wan, or Ben, saved Luke the plans is presented to him, Obi– Wan wants Luke to help him save the princess, Luke declines his offer because he can't leave his Aunt and Uncle. After the call is the departure which is Luke, Ben, Han–Solo, Chewbacca, C3PO and R2D2 trying to leave the planet in a hurry on a spaceship but the storm troopers is trying to prevent them from leaving because they want R2D2. Eventually, they beat them and was able to leave and enter into space somewhat safely, getting past the threshold. The tasks are saving Leighia, getting away and out if the Death Star, escaping the Empires spaceships; which he did very heroically. The tribulator is his mentor, Obi–Wan, dying and with him losing so many people in few days it helps the trial come very easily. Now the trial is Luke becoming a fighter pilot for the Rebel forces to destroy the Death Star. Now the most important part is the transformation of consciousness, because it is usually at the climax and the changing point of the hero. The representation of this is when Luke stops using ... • 5. Star Wars : A New Hope Much of the Star Wars ' credibility and popularity is owed to the richness of its fictional world as defined by writer/director George Lucas. In an interview, Lucas states that the original idea for Star Wars was modelled on the movies of his childhood, The "Flash Gordon movie serials and Edgar Rice Burroughs' John Carter of Mars Series of books." The mise–en–scène in Star Wars plays a vitally important role, so the question explored in this essay is how the use of mise–en–scène adds depth to the themes in Star Wars: Episode IV–A New Hope (1977), paying particular attention to 'good versus evil'. This theme stands out in because it speaks to one of the oldest struggles of all, the battle between right and wrong. A main aspect of mise–en–scène that plays an influential role in defining the difference between characters that have been designated as good and evil is the use of fabric choices and the costumes they wear. Bordwell and Thomson say in Film Art an Introduction: "costume is often coordinated with setting. Since the filmmaker usually wants to emphasize the human figures, setting may provide more or less neutral background, while costume helps pick out the characters. Color design is particularly important here." This is demonstrated by the protagonists dressed in pure white materials. Luke wears an outfit that resembles a karate gi with a leather utility belt slung at his hip, painting Luke as a simple farm boy. During the film, he transitions through several ... We are emerging to a society that constantly produces the most modern and greatest pieces of technology. We are creating reusable rockets, robots that teach each other's, immune engineering, and cars that can drive themselves. Imagine thirty or forty years from now what we can build to produce a more successful society. The movie Star Wars could be instrumental in the development of something great for our society. We could use the movie to build a great and powerful society that could benefit The science fiction movie, Star Wars, has a total of seven different episodes. The ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In the 1980s, special effects started becoming more popular in film making. Movies, such as, Die Hard, Back To The Future and Lethal Weapon would have not become so popular as they did without Star Wars. Because of the movie, weapons and robots began making their way into real–life. For example, "a Hong Kong company made an ultra–powerful handheld laser that looks like a lightsaber. Walking robots resembling the giant AT–ATs that Imperial forces used to attack rebels are being developed for the military to carry equipment where conventional vehicles can't go. The U.S. Army's Future Soldier Initiative went as far as to draft plans for armor that looked much like what Imperial storm troopers wore, although in light of the probable cost, they face an uncertain future" (Choi). There was another Star Wars movie that influenced a technology company. The chief technology officer for Microsoft demonstrated a "Death Star" bug–zapper at a technology conference that was designed to use lasers to shoot down airborne mosquitoes. The purpose of the design was not just to crush microscopic rebels, but to help prevent certain diseases such as malaria (Choi). If everything goes well for Microsoft, a future influenced by Star Wars could go on to save lives. Force fields were also used in the movie, which were energy shields that were designed to protect soldiers, machines and spacecraft that were in battle. "Very similar technology had recently been patented by American aerospace companies. The use of levitation technology (such as hover– bikes) has also been developed for military purposes" ... Critique of Asimov's &quot;I, Robot&quot; Essay Isaac Asimov thrills the reader with his story–telling ability in "I, Robot". &nbsp;Of course, many of Asimov's ideas provide a ploy to add suspense to the story. &nbsp; However, when the plot completely disagree with the laws which he himself has written, the story becomes confusing. &nbsp; On the surface, it appears that his stories make legitimate and logical sense, as well as entertaining the audience in a magnificent way. &nbsp; However, any deeper analysis of the story will prove that there are several significant flaws in the work. &nbsp; This can best be shown in one of Asimov's earlier stories, "Reason." &nbsp; In this story, the first and second of the three laws of robotics are broken. &nbsp; It is never explained how it would be ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... &nbsp;<p> Let me pause for a minute to explain. &nbsp;Has Powell really given an order? &nbsp;Do the 3 laws require a robot to believe what a human tells it? &nbsp; The answer, I believe, is yes. &nbsp;According to the first law, a robot is not allowed to let a human being come to harm. &nbsp; This not only includes physical harm, but includes mental harm as well. &nbsp;Mental harm can take place in numerous ways. &nbsp; For example, in this story, Powell and Donovan are told by Cutie that their beliefs are wrong in that the only point to their existence is to serve the Master. &nbsp; This idea is very distressing to Powell and Donovan. &nbsp;Donovan even begins to question his own beliefs, "Say, Greg, you don't suppose he's right about all this, do you?" &nbsp; Therefore, a robot should never be able to tell a human that he is wrong because it will hurt the human mentally. &nbsp; This idea is demonstrated in another of Asimov's stories called "Liar." &nbsp; In this story, a mind–reading robot is unable to tell the truth because the truth is detrimental to the mental well–being of several of the characters in the story. &nbsp; Therefore, it is imperative for &nbsp;a robot to agree with what a human says because it would otherwise contradict the first law. &nbsp;<p> Once again, according to the second law, a robot must obey ... • 11. Humanoid Robots According to Heather Knight, back in the initiation of the industrial revolution, robotic machines meant automation; a field that requested devices to perform and serve more efficiently than humans. In these modern days, technology and innovation underscored a different design obligation: how robots and people can work better together. But the problem that coincides is, humanoid robots are portraying a more anthropoid appearance which makes it look too horrifying to humans: the sentiment whether or not humanized robots would bond with human beings. In fact, a vague social design can stipulate people not to construe or interact with machines. According to Uncanny Valley, a useful rubric introduced by robotic designers explained that making a device that looks similar to humans is substantial to an extent. That said, humanoid robots would retain prolonging in a discomfort zone until technology achieves anthropoid likeness that emblems all, emotions and intelligence similar to humans.Zombies, for example, portrayed the human descriptive. But people feel intimidated by them even though they are unrealistic objects. Why? Because the behavior is not entirely human, and thus, human perceived them differently, Knight said.Thereby, the interdisciplinary of the eunuchs in the medieval Islamic empires serves to promote a coherent portrayal; displaying how the social performance of the elite slaves had incorporated to envisage them, identically, by the view of the freemen.Regardless of ... Luke Skywalker Research Paper The Leadership of Darth Vader and Luke Skywalker A long time ago in a galaxy far, far away... there were two exceptional leaders by the name of Darth Vader, and Luke Skywalker. As many know, these two men are the leading antagonist and protagonist of the immensely popular franchise, Star Wars. For those that do not know, Darth Vader is the villain who leads a heinous army known as The Empire. Through methods of fear and intimidation, Vader fabricates a mega–weapon capable of destroying entire planets known as the Death Star. Luke Skywalker defies all odds as he uses the methods of stimulation and team building to try to lead the Rebels in an uprising against the tyrants. Each of these leaders is very successful in their own unique methods. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Transformational leaders "provide vision and a sense of mission" (Bass, 1990, p.22). Luke Skywalker was excellent at this. He had a unique ability to rally people from hundreds of different worlds for the single cause of ending Imperial Oppression. One of his primary mission statements is to "believe in your cause." According to Bass (1990), this method inspires people to have a passion for what they do, which usually leads to the job being done better and more thoroughly. This type of leadership also adds a sense of independence to the follower. They will begin to think and act on their own, progressively turning into a leader of their own followers. Darth Vader on the other hand, uses the transactional approach by inspiring by means of rewards and punishment. If a Stormtrooper, which is one of the empire's soldiers, doesn't complete his orders, then Vader very well might put him to death. If he does perform his duty, then he will get the reward of continuing his life. This is obviously an extreme example of transactional leadership, but the idea of it stays true to goal–based ... • 15. The Treaty Of Versailles On The German State After The Great War, the citizens of Germany looked for a new hope. The Treaty of Versailles wrecked the German state and morale seemingly beyond repair with its harsh terms of negotiation. Of course, the German people expected some reparations to be demanded, but they were shocked when the meeting of the Allied Powers at the Paris Peace Conference resulted in the creation of the Treaty of Versailles, a harsh, demanding cry of retaliation. The Treaty of Versailles effectively forced the return of all lands taken during the war to their rightful governments, including all overseas colonies, which meant a loss of a symbol of world power status. Most of these demands for land return were unsurprising to the German people, yet still they took a toll on the German morale. To further damage Germany's power, the Treaty also called for a mass disarmament of the German military. Though promised that this was "merely a first step in a worldwide process of disarmament", the German army and navy were severely reduced, and their ability to produce military weaponry and submarines was greatly restricted. Yet, even these harsh plans to reduce German power did not have the greatest effect on German confidence. The most damaging portions of the Treaty of Versailles were its honor clauses. These allowed individuals to be tried as war criminals and, even more injurious, established in writing that Germany was guilty for the majority of violence and aggression during the war and called for ... These are the days where we invest most of our time to get things done sitting in front of the computer rather that running from one place to the other. It has brought a revolution in the way we handle things. It saves money, labor and its benefits are umpteen. When the demand and the interest by the public are steering towards the use of online services, it has become an unavoidable segment for any organization to emphasis more on it to attract its customers with a better user experience. It's quite common that every task that we perform, we check whether it is being executed in the expected way. Ultimately, if it's going in a right path well and good but the actual question arises when it's the other way. This is the point where analytics come into picture. The need for analytics is very much known to us because it can be one of the most powerful driving factors to tune the performance of an organization's processes, strategies and uplifting revenue. It was directed by George Lucas and originally released in only a few cinemas in 1977. However, the buzz around the film grew, and it is now one of the highest grossing films of all time, and along with its sequels, prequels and re–mastered re–releases, has a large cult following. I feel this is because of Lucas` ability to engage the audience through careful use of sound and camera technique; The use of the scrolling story in space sets up many audience expectations, that the action will be set in space, and that it will base around a struggle between the rebels and the Empire. Narration is a fairly formal method of exposition, linked to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Their voices are quite comical; C3P0's English accent is so camp and inappropriate to the action packed setting that the audience find themselves laughing. R2D2's language is not easily decipherable, and so many laughs are gained by inferring what he has said by C3P0's response. This section introduces the audience to the idea that these characters will provide the comic relief for the film, and indeed, their presence in this section allows the audience to relieve a little of their tension by laughing, this is important because of the family based nature of the film, parents do not want their young children to be too scared. The camera moves to a tight shot of the door, framing it within the screen, showing that all attention is now diverted to it. The sparks from the cutters are exaggerated , to emphasise their importance, and run around the screen, creating the impression that the intruders are breaking into the audience's real world, further allying them with the rebels. The Storm troopers break through, and an eye line shot from their perspective is used to show the rebels firing back; connoting a "new perspective" has arrived. Persia was the dominant empire of this time because of conquering and expanding borders. They had the largest army of the time with around 700,000–800,000 soldiers. Sparta on the other hand was a smaller still powerful city state with highly trained Military personnel. I think there are many minor differences that alter and change the way you see the battle. Some of those minor changes in the movie not in the real battle are the Persians used rhinos and elephants to ride into battle, Xerxes does not go into battle as seen in the movie and the Spartans did not fight with any armor unlike the real battle. ... During the hiding in the shade scene, it showed the Persian archers shooting of what looks to be one million plus arrows which is a huge overstatement because for one there was never that many arrows to block out the sun, and second the wooden arrows would not stick in the metal shields the Spartans held. Another minor difference within the battle was in the movie it showed Xerxes in the front lines of the battle. In the movie Xerxes Talked to Leonidas and even reasoned for him to be warlord of Sparta and obviously Leonidas refused. In reality Xerxes was far behind enemy lines where he couldn't get a spear in the cheek. Xerxes was also never that tall or never wore those clothes he was much shorter, fatter and wore fine silk clothes. Last minor difference was in the movie the Spartan soldiers were almost naked when going into battle. Technology Negative Essay Defined as the "purposeful application of information in the design, production, and utilization of goods and services, and in the organization of human activities", technology has many applications in today's world (WebFinance, Inc.). Whether the newest cellular device, video gaming console or tablet, or even some new vaccine or cure for a disease, technology is meant to make humans' lives easier, faster, less stressful, more enjoyable and ultimately better, and make society a better place. Technology grows with humans and their needs and wants. When humans needed some sort of way to protect themselves, gather resources more easily, and farm, humans developed stone tools and weapons to use. Windmills, steam engines, use of petroleum, and the harnessing of electricity made life easier, faster and less stressful – whether that energy is used for textiles, metallurgy, agriculture, or transport, the harnessing of wind, steam, petroleum and electricity truly helped society grow and the individual prosper. Later, militaries had better weapons to fight with and technology to use (radar, sonar) to use against their opponents, and hospitals had pharmaceuticals, anesthetics, antiseptics, and better examination techniques (X–Rays, radiation therapy, blood transfusions). While it can be useful, many question the usefulness and application of technology that seemingly does not help society and the individual and instead are a detriment. After World War II, some questioned the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Star Wars: A New Hope: Movie Analysis In the movie "Star Wars Episode Four: A New Hope", the film George Lucas uses the archetypes the hero, the mentor, and the tyrant to convey the theme that we as humans grow and change as people because of possible people or events that occur throughout our lives. Alien Encounters : The Limition Of Aliens In Science Fiction Questions on the limitation of human identity are re–examined in unexpected meetings with mysterious beings/objects, which is also the topic of Chapter 2: Alien Encounters. The word "alien" describes the oddness, abnormality, or even extraordinary of mysterious beings, human groups, animal species, or machines. "The concept of the alien in science fiction could be understood in three overlapping senses. It could refer to startlingly different beings, sometimes from other planets; it could refer to social estrangement [...]; or again, it could refer to a quality of the narrative itself" (Seed 27). Alien invasions, sympathetic aliens, and languages are topics of alien encounter theme. "Alien invasion narratives" (Seed 31) often focus on the idea: "conquer or be conquered" (Seed 32, 42). The subtlety of these fictions was the appearance of the objects (Seed 32). Occasionally, the aliens entered the scene suddenly and dominantly like what happens in The Quatermass Experiment (1955) – an infectious virus, carried by an astronaut, spread uncontrollably after his rocket crashes in the middle of Wimbledon Common (Seed 32). Opposingly, a mysterious object in Quatermass 2 (1957) gradually reveals itself along with the development of the story. "Alien invasion narratives" (Seed 31) and movies in the 1950s were largely influenced by John Wyndham, "who followed a strategy of embedding his science fiction subjects in the circumstantial detail of daily life" (Seed 33). Joseph's support for changing ideals led to lasting change in Europe. By issuing the Robot Patent Decree in 1789, Joseph paved the way for complete abolition of Feudalism in 1848. In 1789 it was abolished by Joseph II, however Leopold II restored it when his brother Joseph II died in 1790. The abolition of robot during the Revolutions of 1848 broke the last legal tie which held the peasants to the land, and was seen as a great victory by the peasants. Frederick took a medieval view of the merits of social caste. Although he abolished serfdom on the royal domains, he did little to loosen the bonds of serfdom generally, except to forbid the sale of landless serfs in East Prussia in 1773. Due to this way of thinking, the streets were dangerous, as they were filled with violence. Another issue caused by the decline in morals and values was the difference between the rich and the poor. In the following I will attempt to show you the many examples of his influence upon this vastly expanded genre of works. In his robot stories, Asimov coined two new words, ... Posthuman During the second half of the semester, we have been looking at games, novels, and critical scholarship that have explored the relationship between digital technologies and print and media technologies at the borders of video games and novels. One of the takeaways from this it that objects themselves matter at the level of representation, code, design, and system, and they transform, affect, shape, and or recede from our attempts to apprehend them. We aren't meant to live forever, so what's next? There are many different theories and beliefs that are out there, but with technology growing rapidly it seems like the impossible might come. No matter how old you are, one has definitely read a book or watched a movie that have ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... "[Mianaai] resided in each of the thirteen provincial palaces, and was present at every annexation. She was able to do this because she possessed thousands of bodies, all of them genetically identical, all of them linked to each other" (Leckie 95). This is a scary thought, but it may happen if technology reaches that point. But, if one was able to correctly assemble this kind of figure, how would we be able to tell a difference? According to Katherine Hayes, she says "In the posthuman, there are no essential differences or absolute demarcations between bodily existences and computer simulation, cybernetic mechanism and biological organism, robot teleology and human goals" (Hayes 3). They would blend right in within our society, without anyone else knowing. She continues by saying, "...a conceptual framework that constituted humans, animals, and machines as information–processing devices receiving and transmitting signals to affect goal–directed behavior" (Hayes 37). The way to create a posthuman like figure, is by being able to process information during a conversation. This will allow them to be able to communicate effectively with a regular human–being based on the information they have collected. Although, the Turing Test, challenges this notion and reveals the truth behind what is real and what is posthuman. The Turing Test is an interview–based test ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Controlled by programmers and occasionally by remotes, recreational and professional robots help in numerous fields of industry and provide an enjoyable twenty–first century competition. However, as prodigies–turned–geniuses program artificial intelligence, such devices may eventually take the control away from humans. The human race is no stranger to such losses of control, for humans also take control away from other humans. Such an aspect is also prominently present in literature. An exemplar of such is in Chinua Achebe's 1958 novel Things Fall Apart, where Okonkwo, the protagonist, suffers from a thorough yet moderated loss of control. The ... Okonkwo, amid his authority over his family, violently beats one of his wives, despite the Week of Peace ruling the actions of the townspeople and placing an interdiction on violence. Okonkwo focuses primarily on his anger and ignores religious beliefs, while "in his anger he had forgotten that it was the Week of Peace" (Achebe 29). Okonkwo, amid his frustration and anger that his family seizes control from him, makes Igbo beliefs second nature and focuses on himself. Forgetting mandated peace, he takes his culture for granted and loses parts of his control and respect when he breaks numerous cultural laws. • 59. World War II And Japan World War II and Japan The Greater Japanese Empire was one of the fastest growing and most dominant world powers of the late 1800's and early 1900's. After being created as a result of the Meiji Restoration of 1868, the Empire of Japan grew quite well and prospered until it was dissolved in 1947. Although Japan experienced a long period of economic strife, massive destruction and a switch from a military to a consumer based economy, after World War II, the country emerged stronger than ever and became a serious player on the world economic stage. While scholars have debated World War II's impact on Japan's economy, ultimately WWII allowed Japan to emerge with adaptive and innovative manufacturing capabilities. Japan occupied Vietnam and joined the Axis Powers in 1940, which led to an oil boycott from the United States and Great Britain (Ike 5). In 1941 Japan captured the Dutch East Indies, and after the December attack on Pearl Harbor, they were officially at war with the Allied Powers in the Second World War. The attack on Pearl Harbor resulted in over 2,400 American deaths and four sunken ships. On the same day, Japan initiated the Southern Expansion, which was a massive invasion of Guam, Hong Kong, and the Philippines, in addition to a few other East Asian territories (Kato 57). During the next few months Japan was able to deliver a series of blows to Allied forces in the region by taking over American bases and sinking British ships. Japan's momentum began to ... I am a student right now at Milton High School. I formally attended FSA and right 13 years old. In college I am planning to take neuroscience, robotics, and architecture. I intend to become a professor like my father, and do my own research I want. Neuroscience is science that's about nerve system in the brain. In neuroscience you can make the brain control using its nerve system other machines like exo– skeleton. It has already been done in the Brazil world cup. A group of scientist made an exo– skeleton that uses the nerve system of the brain to move around. It was a miracle for a man who could not walk all of his life and walk again in front of the entire crowd using the exo–skeleton. Robotics is making robots that help mankind to things easier. For example we can make a robot save someone who is in danger and not have any life of innocent firefighters or the rescuers sacrificed. In architecture I would like to design buildings and other sightseeing places. The study of neuroscience increased exponentially due to increase of due to advance of advances in molecular, electrophysiology, and computational neuroscience. It has helped neuroscientist research all aspect of the brain nerve system: how it functions, malfunctions, or changes. The study of neuroscience can be done in multiple steps ranging from molecular and cellular to the system and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

I was born an only child from the Theta–Countess into the most powerful family in the galactic empire. But I had no family left, my mother died in childbirth and my father died a warrior, defending our people from the everthreat that are the Ravineen sect – a planet destroying society dedicated to expanding their beliefs across the universe. I lived my childhood surrounded by robotic servants, raised by them to have everything I needed as ordered by my mother. And everytime I felt I had accomplished something, the heavy silver–titanium hands of Quanta would strike me down leave me a bleeding mess in the ground. My hatred for it grew larger every second that I endured it. I dreaded the sight of the reflecting surface of his skin and the unnatural white glow its bead–like eyes. I dreamed of murdering it, I dreamed of being free of it. From then on I did everything it ordered me to. I trained in all the abilities its mischievous mind could come up with. Three Laws Of Robot Essay The Effectiveness of Isaac Asimov`s Three Laws of Robotics In 1950 a collection of short stories by Isaac Asimov gathered under a name I, Robot was first published commencing a whole new era in the field of fiction. "Asimov first explicitly introduced the Three Laws of Robotics in the short story "Runaround," published in the March 1942 issue of Astounding Science Fiction. In his 1985 novel Robots and Empire, Asimov formulated an additional Zeroth Law, to stand above the original three: "No harm to humanity, or, allowing any harm to humanity by inaction." Other science fiction writers have explored similar ideas, sometimes anticipating Asimov's laws and sometimes expanding on them." (Wallach 219) It was the first book to use the word "robot" ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Indeed, a robot should have some system of self–preservation reflexes as long as they do not interfere with its prime responsibilities. But, as mentioned before, robots can under certain circumstances interpret the Laws differently and what is more important can be seen as a better version of a human being. Asimov (3) wrote through the words of Susan Calvin: "Then you don't remember a world without robots. There was a time when humanity faced the universe alone and without a friend. Now he has creatures to help him; stronger creatures than himself, more faithful, more useful, and absolutely devoted to him. Mankind is no longer alone. Have you ever thought of it that way? ... They're a cleaner, better breed than we are." In this sense robots deserve to be considered as equals to humans and even more than that, as superior beings. Robots that serve are just a first step on the way to developing artificial intelligence opening new possibilities to no end. Meet an adorable droid in the galaxy far, far away: BB–8. The one droid the evil First Order is looking for, with the map that leads to the last Jedi Master, who can bring a victory. However, if you've never heard of Star Wars, you are missing out on a great adventure story! George Lucas created the first Star Wars movie in 1977 featuring two heroes and a heroine battling an evil empire, which became a great success. By 1983 the first trilogy was completed, followed by another set of three prequels between 1999 and 2005. The axis of a gyroscope is capable of maintaining balance due to an equilibrium of a spinning wheel that resists change in direction. Inside BB–8's spherical body is a circular, weighed "base plate" with omniwheels (omni means multi). This base plate, which I will call segway, houses a gyroscope which constantly spins with motor and rechargeable battery, to control the movement of BB–8 during its lifetime. As BB–8 rolls along the ground, the gyroscope attempts to maintain alignment, specifically to keep its head towards the top of the body. From the center of the segway we have a rod as BB–8's "neck" going up, with a servo in the middle, continuing to the top with a magnet that keeps BB–8's head at the top. The head can tilt because the inner "neck" can bend. The neck's tilting action is controlled by a servo. A servo is a small device that looks like a mechanized box with a bendable "arm", much like a remote control joystick. The servo receives an electrical input signal that changes the angle of the arm. This angle is called the output. Normally the servo arm is set stationary at 90° (straight up), with a range of 0° to 180°. The angle of the arm would change based on the input. Because of this, we now know how BB–8's head tilts. That's why when BB–8's body rolls, the head can tilt yet remains securely on the top of BB–8's body. How does its head turn? His arrival brought the promise of a new dawn in American politics because he came to power in the midst of the Cold War(Richards), a clash between two titans: the capitalist U.S and the communist U.S.S.R. During the Cold war, the media became an extremely influential tool, especially in film. It was used as a form of propaganda by both superpowers. Rocky IV, directed by Sylvester Stallone, is one such film that highlights and endorses the ideals laid out by the Reagan Administration. Most people are always interested in what the future holds and some make many different theories about it. All of us already know how in the future we will be technologically advanced with computers and cars but we don't know how the world will work. Will the world come to full stop and fail, adapt and progress or if it will go back to the roots of our ancestors to run properly. Some ask "Will the global hegemonic dominion of the USA fade away like the Roman Empire? Or is the US just now fully developing into an American Empire? Will the world deteriorate into a kind of international neo–feudalism? Or are we on the brink of a Second Renaissance." In this board game, players work together to cure and eradicate four diseases, one in each of the major areas of the world: North America/Europe, South America/Africa, the Middle East, and Southeast Asia/Australia. The board is a map of the world with major cities marked. The diseases are designated by small colored cubes. I know that we all have our opinions and we all have our favorites. Yes, Star Wars is just fiction and most say that Star Trek is more realistic but that doesn't really change the 'Wow' factor of Star Wars, numbers or no numbers, theoretically correct or not, Star Wars is undeniably awesome. I will do my best to elaborate why. First, let's start off with the Millennium Falcon versus the Enterprise. Star Wars has the Millennium Falcon which is an YT–1300 light freighter and dates way back even before when the Clone Wars happened. Which is why it's amazing since during the clone wars everything was being destroyed by the Empire. It's amazing how it survived. While in Star Trek their ship known as the Enterprise, which is also iconic, but why does the Millennium Falcon win over it? Simply because the Millennium Falcon is just more awesome.
