The Muscular System
- 2. Unit 1 Interaction- Muscular system
- 3. Muscular system The diagram on the right show us the muscular system.
- 4. Skeletal muscles Skeletal muscles are muscles attached to the skeleton. They help us perform voluntary actions, and we would not be able to move without them. Skeletal muscles work in pairs. When one muscle contracts the other muscle relaxes. Your bicep is a very good example of this.
- 5. Smooth muscles Smooth muscles are found in your organs, such as your intestines and stomach. Smooth muscles are INVOLUNTARY (They work automatically).
- 6. Cardiac muscle The cardiac muscle is an involuntary muscle that makes up our heart.
- 7. How many muscles do you think we have?
- 8. We have more than 650 muscles!

- Get one of the children to read the text. Ask a few kids to come up to the front of the classroom to demonstrate skeletal muscles in action.
