Humor In Cartoons
Cartoons, or as some scholars call caricatures, are metaphorical codification of humor through
which cartoonists express their thoughts and opinions by commenting on specific contemporary
social and political issues. Attardo and Chabnne (1992) define cartoons as a joke that involve a
mixed–code message where humor exists in the lines uttered by the characters. In fact, cartoons
have always been seen as a work of art where linguistic and non–linguistic resources are used
effectively in a humorous way to convey a certain message. In fact, they are seen as a direct and
easy way to convey a message whether via visual and verbal modes, or verbal mode only, or visual
mode only. Giarelli and Tulman (2003) argues that readers favors image representation of political
and social issues as quick way to understand a complex message. Cartoons are usually found in
televisions, newspaper, and recently they are widely spread online on social networks like Facebook
and twitter thanks to technology. Cartoons are presented in many forms like political cartoons, short
stories, business cartoons etc. Humor in cartoons, especially the political ones, should not be
considered as just comics as ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
They claimed that humor is achieved through the violation of one or more of these maxims. Despite
the significance of pragmatic analysis of political cartoons, it lacks the interpretation of the different
modes used to create a meaning. In cartoons, verbal and visual modes are used together to highlight
a certain issue. Thus, this research offers a semio–pragmatic analysis of political cartoons published
in Egypt Daily News. These cartoons depict the sociopolitical events that took place in Egypt in
2016 and people's attitude toward these events.

Contemporary Art Issues: Malay's Identity in Lat's Cartoon
Introduction
Definition of cartoon by David Low is: "A cartoon is a drawing, representational/symbolic, that
makes a satirical, witty or humorous point," (Muliyadi: 2008).
Lat has been known for his contribution to Malaysia's art scene and social impact through his

forum, we will see the importance of Lat character and the Malay culture which he bring along in

Area of Interest
My area of interest is when comes to Lat style and characters. He keeps using very simple
approaches to keep his drawing clean, very well structured and sometime it could be very detail.
The detailing of his drawing shows in The Kampung Boy where he draws the view inside the house
and outside of the house.
As we can see its very detailed yet well structured drawing has been produce by Lat. It show clearly
the Malay culture such as usage of tempayan is located nearby the stairs so guest can wash their feet
before enter the house. The Malay house he draw also stated that he stays in Perak, which is the
style of house architecture can only be found in state of Perak.
The next figure shows usual Malay dinner in village. The strong Malay culture once again can be
found which is cross legged way of sits, having dinner on the floor top of the tikar mengkuang and
usage of gasoline lamp which is shown he live without electricity, a very common way of kampung
life. We can see that petai or ulam is always on the side of everybody in the house and the dishes are
very simple.
This detailed is successfully elaborate by using all the traditional Malay elements which is ulam,
labu sayung usage as water container that is very common in Perak state, and village attire at home
which is kain pelikat and kain batik which adult

Marty Bucella's Boys Fail In School
Everyone has looked at a political cartoon, and had a laugh. However, have you really analyzed
what the cartoon is saying to you? What is it that the cartoonist wants you to know? Political
cartoons are visuals that comment on political events or issues while possibly making you laugh.
Marty Bucella's political cartoon gives you a vivid detailed look at caricatures, and analyzes student
teacher relationships and how a boy is not doing so well in school. The issue of boys failing in
school is swept under the rug, but it is a serious issue and affects our country's future. Bucella is an
accomplished cartoonist who discovered his talent after he made a greeting card for his girlfriend in
college. He thought maybe he could make money doing this and spent the rest of his senior year
drawing on notebooks. A picture can be worth a thousand words. Political cartoons have been
around since the 1800's. Many historians will say the idea started even before this time period. Most
political cartoons are composed of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
There are studies that show boys do not like to read, and are failing in our school system. Studies
also show that many times there is a disconnect between male students and teachers. Teachers also
try to display more power when dealing with boys, which results in boys being reprimanded more
than girls. The cartoon requires you to open your mind and see what could be going on in your
schools. The cartoonist Bucella did an excellent job of pulling you in to the drawing. While looking
at the cartoon you recognize there is an issue and what we can do to improve it. Interpretation of
education is something that Bucella does often, and this cartoon in particular supports the research I
am doing. Bucella at the least turns on the light bulb of our failing school system. Because of this
dialogue we can start the conversation and we can try to come up with solutions to the

The Influence Of Propaganda Posters
The comic style is an art form in its own right that grew amongst the various movements that
evolved throughout the years, such as classism to the modern art we see throughout the world today.
Through these movements, the level of emotion, professional skills and ideas fluctuate and swaps in
importance as art switches between the real and the unknown. These sometimes may not have an
impact on the art movement as a whole, yet still has enough unique differences to showcase a whole
new style. This is how the comic style was born. The comic style has appeared in various
movements, influenced our emotions and actions, built franchises and culture and continues to
influence the world today. It's the style that takes realism and recreates it in a ... Show more content

Vincent is displaying the terror that the Chinese are taking over the nation and leaving Australia
helpless. Vincent made an effective cartoon in the way off convincing the public that there was a
major issue with the immigration. The words 'Deficient Immigration Laws' were added to the
cracked and decaying wall to hone in the Bulletin's opinion that they needed tighter laws on
stopping the immigration in Australia. The playful nature of the cartoon makes it more persuasive
due to its subtle themes. This effect could be seen all throughout the world on propaganda posters
through World War I & II. Propaganda posters were a way to convince people to join various
military services and help with supplies. The imagery of these posters included enemies being
represented as giant beasts and civilians being harassed for example. Unfortunately the names of a
lot of propaganda posters are unknown to this day but their imagery lives on. Say Nothing Cobber,
Look Where Talking Got Me was a propaganda poster commissioned by the Royal Australian Air
Force. Initially it looks like a page out of an old comic book with its simplistic line drawing and
light, solid colour. This particular imagery shows a cocktail party with civilians and a soldier.

The Pros And Cons Of Cartoon Network
Something is happening here, and I'm getting a little worried. But first, I'm going to jump ahead a
bit and talk in general terms about how it is entirely feasible for us to do everything humanly
possible to cultivate people's minds and refine their judgment. Then, I'll back up and fill in some of
the details. Okay, so to start with the general stuff, Cartoon Network can pervert any established
ideology. It is for this reason that I find it hilarious that it would have the audacity to even pretend
that it's a wonderful, charitable organization. As we all know, the truth is that if Cartoon Network
doesn't realize that it's generally considered bad style to pilfer the national treasure, then it should
read one of the many self–help books on the subject. I recommend it buy one with big print and lots
of pictures. Maybe then Cartoon Network will grasp the concept that we are in trouble when
hitherto reputable people recover the dead past by annihilating the living present. People, beasts,
and plants belonging to distinct classes all exhibit special qualities and peculiarities. Unfortunately,
Cartoon Network's special quality is that it swears that it acts in the name of equality and social
justice. Despite the emphasis that it places on that asseveration, we all know that it's a willful,
malicious, and deliberate lie that serves only to prove that Jacobinism is a kind of prison. It is also,
paradoxically, a haven. It is at once confining and empowering. And in the absence of

My Favorite Cartoon Essay
Oh how I remember the days where I would wake up at 8am to watch my favorite cartoon shows. I
would eat my breakfast in front of the tv and watch the new episodes that would air. Whether it be
the classics like Tom and Jerry or Looney Tunes, or some new shows like Foster's Home for
Imaginary friends or the PowerPuff Girls. Watching these cartoons brought me solace and joy. It
would bring me to its world of wonder and spectre.
To this day, these shows have taught me many values and morals that I follow and helped shape me
into a better person. It made me think that I would like to give that same feeling to another person.
In that moment, I decide that I wanted to do the same thing and create cartoon shows that will

Once they saw the picture, they stood there speechless just looking at me and the drawing. When
they finally said something. They said that it was meh. I was once again devastated by what they
had said. This time I was sure that I had gotten them to change their minds. I actually thought that
this would be the one to shut them down. So, I went back to the drawing boards and wondered about
what it was that I had messed up on. I sat there looking down at the drawing, when I noticed that it
looked like it had been rushed. It was covered with curved and out of sync lines. The eraser marks
made the picture look all dark and muddy with all of the smudges that they had left. I finally
realized what was so wrong with my draws. I had rushed all of them.
At this point, I didn't know what to do. I had hit a roadblock with nowhere to turn. I felt like my
dreams were over and that I would never be able to animate my ideas. The next couple of months I
spent my time on other things as I looked for a new pasion. But, none could fill the emptiness of
drawing. The joys of sending your ideas down the pencil expressway to its stop at paperway station.
It felt amazing and nothing could replace that feeling for me. So, I thought that I would give it
another go and this time I would take my time.
Once again I was back at it, only this time I would be rolling down a snail's pace and drawing with
ease. After every correction, I would wipe off the eraser

Negative And Negative Effects Of Cartoons On Children
Introduction I have grown up With cartoons and absolutely loved them. I never imagined what they
could do to someone's mental state I never questioned this until the day I was at an autistic boys
house. He was watching SpongeBob in this episode SpongeBob gave Patrick (SpongeBob's best
friend) a haircut. not soon after this the autistic boy had a pair of scissors in his hands and tried to
cut my hair. At the time I was shocked by this and thought, does this mean cartoons can have
adverse effects on people?. So that's why I decided on this topic to find out the negative and positive
effects of cartoons on people. The negative effects of cartoons. Through my research, I have found
many cases and examples of what cartoons are capable of not only just for autistic people. One of
the studies I found was conducted in Turkey and was named '' The influence of violent TV cartoons
watched by school children in Turkey'' this study's purpose was to find the effects of different
cartoons on school children The Research was conducted on a total of 300 students chosen
randomly. A 20 question document was used for data collection, using interviews with the students.
It was found out that the male students who were interviewed liked more violence orientated
cartoons and were more likely to imitate what those characters were doing
(http://www.scielo.br/scielo.phpscript=sci_arttext&pid=S0103–21002012000900021). I found this
intriguing as I thought it would be similar results for both genders I assume that boys are more
connected with the cartoons and find small things to associate themselves with. There are many
effects cartoons can have and many them aren't good, for example if a youngster was to watch 4+
hours of cartoons every day there would be a higher chance of obesity, the child could be struggling
with social skills as it is much easier to just switch on the tv than talk to someone. If a child watches
violent cartoons regularly, they are more likely to desensitize to violence and loss, also if a child
was to watch cartoons where a character jumped out of a tree and walked away without a scratch the
child may do the same (https://www.azernews.az/analysis/58562.html) .Like I said in my

Audience can be influenced by a variety of types of text. These include song, cartoon and speech.
Each text can demonstrate a variety of persuasives techniques, such as repetition, emotive language
and alliteration. Evidence of text can be found in "You're the Voice" by John Farnham. The Sorry
speech presented by Kevin Rudd. And the political cartoon by Clifton Evers, depicting refuges.
Each of these text type employs a method, uses language and persuasives techniques and presents
themes to their target audience.
Texts take the forms of numerous methods such as song, speech and graphics, each producing
meaning. John Farnham's piece "You're the Voice" is an example of text as song. The effectiveness

There were multiple persuasive techniques used within the different speeches such as repetition,
emotive language, rhetorical questions, issues and many more. To draw the listener into the song
'You're the voice' John Farnham used many different persuasive techniques throughout the piece of
music. For example the title of the song 'You're the voice' is repeated multiple times throughout the
song, helping get it's point across and getting that exact message in your head using repetition, to
help get the songs point across it uses multiple techniques, another technique found within the song
is where it uses different issues to get its point across, the song 'You're the voice' is focusing on the
issue of the wars and silly things going on, using the issues within the song draws people in and
serves a way of getting people to help stand up for what is right. However the cartoons persuasive
techniques were very limited due to fact that it was just a picture with a few words, the cartoon can
be found slightly similar to the song as it has the use of repetition within the cartoon, this is evident
in the second speech bubble where the word 'but' is repeated multiple times, also like the song the
cartoon uses issues we face in this day and age within it to help get its put across, the cartoon is
using the issue of sending away the boat people and how we need to fix it. The sorry speech just

The Case of Swedish Cartoon Artist Lars Vilks
On 18 August 2007, Nerikes Allehanda published a series of cartoon works by Swedish cartoon
artist Lars Vilks. The cartoon portrayed Islamic Prophet Muhammad as a roundabout dog. In Islamic
tradition, it is considered highly blasphemous to make a picture of the Prophet Muhammad.
Therefore, the publication has induced severe protests in the Islamic communities. The crisis
presented a moral dilemma in journalist practice: Freedom of Expression and prohibiting hate
speech, making public statement to disrespect for any religious/ethnic group. As Sweden is the
earliest country in the world to constitutionally introduce Free Press, Swedish Press Council has
always been committed to protect Freedom of Expression/Press. No authority is allowed to make
political decisions on what should be published in media during the process of news production.
However, Sweden criminalized acts of public statements that express disrespect to any
religious/ethnic group in Regeringens Proposition 2001/02:59. "This provision constitutes a
restriction on the form of government constitutional freedom of expression; the penalty is
imprisonment for up to two years. In minor cases, however, the penalty fines (Bodström, 2001)." In
accordance with Swedish Press Council has an obligation to restrict offending journalist practice
with respect to the public safety. To decide whether the cartoon could be defined as a practice of
Free Press, as the newspaper claimed, or had intention to disrespect Islamic group

Art of the Funnies: Attitude 2 a Cartoon by Ted Rall
Attitude 2 is a cartoon done by Ted Rall that is poorly done. It is considered to be a bad comic by
the standards by the article The Art of the Funnies: An Aesthetic History by Robert C. Harvey. There
were many things that made this very poorly done. The first thing is the progression was not done
very well at all. Also the graphic variety of the cartoon was bad, showing small variety. Another
thing that was poorly done was the style of it, all seemed very similar. Lastly the main problem was
the balance of the cartoon, they all were very similar. The cartoon needed a lot more effort to make
it better. This is a cartoon that was very poorly done. One of the main things about this cartoon is the
progression, the fact that there is no progression. Progression is how time is depicted. Sequence of
panels help create time (8). Neither word nor pictures quite satisfy the cartoon (13). In the cartoon I
was given there was no rhyme or reason for the panel placement, it was just random scenes put
together. There was no plot in the comic which can make people uninterested. This was evident
though out the whole cartoon. Also in most well done cartoons there is more word bubbles used, but
in this there are few used. Progression is the most important part of a good cartoon. One cannot just
have a picture or word bubbles to be a good cartoon. In the Chocolate Bunny Rehab panel that is
done with just the visual. No word bubbles were present. Also along with the poor progression also

Cartoon Violence
Cartoons on a television are glue to children. Children will spend hours a day watching their
favorite cartoons, such as "SpongeBob SquarePants" or "Adventure Time." Unfortunately, the
content on these shows, and several others, can harm children. Directly, cartoons can affect how
children think and act; additionally, this leads to the indirect effect of children physically hurting
one another. Children daily see hundreds of violent acts on television. Most parents notice the
obvious acts of gore and try to avoid those types of shows; however, what parents do not realize is
that cartoons contain just as much, if not more, violence per episode. When parents see shows such
as "SpongeBob SquarePants," for example, they seem more comical ... Show more content on

Therefore, the children that do become used to the violence do not realize how much they are
absorbing, and are thus more likely to keep watching and increase the damage already inflicted onto
their minds. Additionally, younger children who watch violent cartoons tend to believe they can
mimic what is on screen. A news story in China where children attempted to mimic their favorite
cartoon with near fatal consequences reads:
"The Li brothers' tragedy began one fine April afternoon with a bit of play–acting. When 10–year–
old Shun Shun ran into eight–year–old Li Haoran and his little brother Li Hao, four, just outside of
their village of Mawang, near Lianyungang in Jiangsu province, the three friends decided to play a
game. They would act out the big wolf roasting the lamb – an idea the boys later said they got from
the popular children's television series Pleasant Goat and Big Big Wolf. Taking the role of wolf,
Shun Shun used some scrap cloth he found nearby to tie the two brothers to a tree. After piling some
dried leaves around their feet, he set it alight. Within minutes, strong gusts of wind blew the fire out
of control. The terrified Shun Shun ran away, leaving the Li boys screaming for help. A passing
villager heard their cries and rushed to help. But by the time flames were put out, the brothers were
severely burned. The boys were rushed to the county hospital and transferred on the same night to a
city hospital, which had better facilities. For a month, it

The Cartoon : Animation And My Own Identity
Few do not think art seem interesting, but many have seen different types of it on the internet such
as in a blogs, tumblr, Facebook. My potential blog topic is about animation and my version on
certain cartoon. I would like to redraw my favorite cartoon characters and will inform why I like the
cartoonist's style. The cartoon art was one of the reasons I wanted to do try different artistic media
such as drawing, painting, or graphic designing. I was thinking, I can ask other people about their
favorite characters and in what style they would like to see in. For example, Snoopy from the
Peanuts in a Tim Burton style or whatever they prefer. My blog is for anyone who likes cartoons or
who wants to do a request. In this essay, I will explore the animation style, describe and inform the
reason why I like art.
The blog reflects on my own identity is by growing up watching animations such as: Disney, Pixar,
DreamWorks, Cartoon Network, Nickelodeon, and even anime shows. I was interested in art by
looking at the animator and cartoonist art style. In 2004, Foster's Home for the Imaginary Friends
had first aired and it had inspired me to doodles creatures and people. The inspiration came based on
the characters' design. The design of the main and background characters are different and unique.

The Death Of Cartoon Television Tv Show
As a long time fan of classic, nostalgia–filled cartoons of the 80's, 90's and early 2000's it's sad to
say the days of Saturday–morning cartoons have been laid to rest. Or rather abruptly terminated
would be a better way to put it. The death of cartoon tv TV show blocks has been tucked away in the
box of many young children (mainly of the male demographic) right next to infrared peripherals,
and chewed up and worn action figures that accommodated them. Though unlike many dying forms
of media, the influence of Saturday–morning cartoons still continues. First things first, modern
cartoons have difficulty embodying the same type of in–depth, adult–themed, bro–mantic
adventures that older cartoons thrived off of. Take for example the original Transformers series. A
group of ultra intelligent, sentient robots escape their crippling homeworld of Cybertron in order to
seek out the much–needed (hyphenate to words that form an adjectiveresource of Energon. Upon
finding Earth, our heroes the Autobots are attacked by the evil Decepticons only to crash land and
wake up thousands of years later in the year 1984. Thus series continues on with Megatron trying to
harvest the Earth for its resources and Optimus Prime and his band of allied companions foiling his
every attempt. The next 4 four (spell out numbers ten and under) seasons present the viewers with
the overarching theme of teamwork and friendship. Granted, it did this very well and the show is

Political Cartoons By Benjamin Franklin
Political cartoons are an illustrative technique that political cartoonist use to display a message to
the viewers about government, world affairs, and politics. In 1754, publishers of the Pennsylvania
Gazette published the first political cartoon illustrated by Benjamin Franklin (West, par. 1).
Benjamin Franklin used his first political cartoon, titled Join or Die, to gain support from the
colonies for the Crown's war against the French (West, par. 1). Since the 1700s, illustrators use
political cartoons as a medium to display political messages to its viewers (West, par. 1). On March

Hillary Clinton's email conspiracy in 2009. Towards the beginning of Hillary Clinton's career as
Secretary of State, the government suspected Hillary Clinton of using her personal computer server
to complete government work, ultimately violating the Federal Records Act (Graff, par. 6). After
suspicions arose, the government suspected Hillary Clinton of sending and receiving classified
information via her personal computer server. During interviews and press meetings, Clinton denied
this accusation multiple times. After further investigation of the matter, the government detected
over 193 classified emails on her personal computer server, ultimately representing Clinton's
dishonesty and her violation of the Federal Records Act (Graff, par. 88).
The third piece of luggage labeled "Foreign Money to Clinton Foundation" represents the foreign

countries of Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, Qatar, Kuwait, Oman, Brunei, and Algeria

Moral Development And Gender In Teen Titans
This cartoon illustrates some common roles that stereotyped men and women. Men are represented
as the strong sex. Goku, his allies and enemies are all men, who are trained and prepared physically
and mentally to fight. The woman who appears in the plot, since an accessory stays at home, taking
care of the house and the children. This construction of character skills is critical for opinions that
suggest that women are inferior and simple–minded, compared to intelligent men who use their
skills more efficiently. This also implies that men are free from household chores, which women are
better suited for domestic skills. The representations of moral development and gender stereotype in
this cartoon increase the possibility that aggressive thoughts and feelings will activate and tend to be
stimulated. These thoughts and feelings, combined with stimulation, increase the probability that
children will behave aggressively. The construction of this cartoon shows very little prosocial
behavior, when characters help each other at the time of the fight and the discipline to which they
undergo in training. Unfortunately, the level of aggression does not let us appreciate this. Morality is
also found to be stereotyped. One of the characters is a womanizer, who let us see that men are
allowed to participate in numerous casual relationships without any prejudiced and criticized. In
contrast to the women who would be prejudiced and criticized of this behavior in society.

Joe Sacco's On Satire
How and why is a social group represented in a particular way?
The cartoonists are the main social group portrayed in the cartoon "On Satire" by Joe Sacco, which
is published in The Guardian. "On Satire" portrays other cartoonists as obnoxious, insensitive
cavemen who often cross the line between satire and just outright offensive mockery of the religious
beliefs of Muslims. The purpose of the cartoon is to ridicule the black and white way of
representation of all Muslims as terrorists. Also he is aiming to get cartoonists to convince
governments and news outlets to consider ways in which to stop terrorism by understanding why
terrorism exists instead of just eradicating all Muslims and hoping that terrorism dies with them.

cartoons that are meant to bring something important to the artists into public knowledge, and some
just want to poke fun at some habits or traditions of other cultures and religion. However there are
those who take it too far, which is where Logos comes in. Most readers, at least the ones the
cartoons are not ridiculing, find it very easy to just laugh off an offensive joke, but as demonstrated
by Sacco, it's very easy to cross the line between a harmless, informative joke and a borderline cruel
mockery of something that is important or sacred to others. Pathos, on the other hand, is used to
appeal to the emotional side of readers by asking them to empathize with the Jews that have been
persecuted, as some believe, for simply been more successful during a time of high rates of
unemployment. Sacco obviously wants us to see that in the right context almost anything can be
hurtful. The statement "When we draw a line, we are often crossing one too" reinforces that

pets' produced by Illumination Entertainment. The film tells a story about two pets who do not get
along well. The animals get into a conflict after their boss leaves them alone at home, which
becomes the cause of problems. Likewise, the cartoon of Robert Ariail, published on october 24th
2011, shows president Obama leaving the house, not taking into account that there are dogs wanting
to enter the house through the backdoor.
This cartoon illustrates a political situation with the use of symbolism and labels. The difference in

A Political Cartoon 'Rosa Parks Still Inspires'
A political cartoon is a picture of a political event shown in a humorous way. Most cartoonist uses
caricature in their cartoons. Some cartoonists exaggerate the person's character and label objects that
symbolize the way the person acts. A cartoon displays a visual of what the cartoonist thinks about
what's going on in politics. In this cartoon, titled, Rosa Parks Still Inspires, is all about racial
discrimination. This cartoon displays Rosa Parks getting told to get out of his seat, by a puny white
man. The cartoonist, Pat Bagley, labels objects throughout the cartoon such as Park's seat. Her seat
symbolizes her moral courage because of how brave she was when Parks sat at the front row of the
bus. Because of her actions, people changed the

Cartoons and Their Effect on Children
Cartoons : A double edged sword Ever since its invention, television has found its way into every
child's bedroom. It is simple yet powerful and has become an essential part of every household,
entertaining children of all ages with the various animated programs it offers. However, the amount
of time a child spends fixed in front of a television screen is incredible. In fact, children under the
age of 11 spend more than 28 hours a week fixed in front of their television screens (Boyse). It is
important to consider the quality of television shows because no one can deny the fact that children
have become addicted to them. Children are subject to a plethora of cartoons that range from
entertaining to educational. These programs invite ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In fact, this may lead to an understanding that girls should be slender and thin in order to be
accepted in society. In " Aladdin" Jasmine uses her body to seduce and distract the villain who's
after Aladdin. This encourages young girls to use their body to manipulate people in an effort to get
what they want. Thus, the potential danger of stereotypes in cartoons can be depicted as using
subliminal messages to affect children's minds. However , some people might argue that these
messages are perhaps unintentional and open to different interpretation. Others might even justify
these subliminal messages by claiming that sexism is inevitable in this male dominated society.
However, an irrefutable fact remains: many cartoon producers treat children as consumers and not
students to be educated ("The Good Things About Television"). In fact, many companies employ
subliminal messages in cartoons as a lucrative strategy for marketing their products and
merchandise. According to Giroux and Pollock (3) "Corporations such as Disney recognize the
potential of lucrative profit to be made of the commodification of children's culture." On another
level, it is generally believed that cartoons are designed with the object of enriching children's
understanding of the world by improving their

The Influence Of Political Cartoons
Political Cartoons Another type of political comedy that is often undervalued today is political
cartoons. Prior to the television becoming a mainstream medium, political cartoons constituted the
majority of political comedy. This power stemmed from the fact that political cartoons were often
presented in print media, such as newspapers and magazines. As print media has fallen out of
demand, however, political cartoons ceded their position to late–night comedy shows. This is not to
suggest that political cartoons cannot exist in a TV–dominated society; rather, that a bit of its
availability and power has been transferred to other media. Political cartoons still exist and have
potential to alter viewers' perception of the current political climate. In fact, some argue that the
political cartoon has experienced a resurgence due to social media. One study phrased it like this:
"Shared on social media, these cartoons created an impression of "déjà vu", showing us the same
metaphors again and again in a very limited space of time" (Bouko, Calabrese, & De Clercq, 2017).
Not only do editorial cartoons still exist, their power has been augmented by the structure and nature
of social media. Internet memes also constitute a section of this and will be discussed in–depth later.
While political cartoons have been replaced by satirical television in the West, many places are still
heavily influenced by them. For example, one recent study looked at the effect that political
cartoons had

Television And Its Effects On Children
Television is everywhere these days, not just in our living rooms but in bathrooms, kitchens, doctor
's offices, grocery stores, airplanes, and classrooms. We have access to TV virtually anywhere and as
American 's we are taking advantage of it. Adults aren 't the only ones watching TV; children today
are watching more TV than ever before. TV has even become known as "America 's baby–sitter."
(Krieg). Meaning that parents are now using the television as a way of entertaining their children
while they attempt to accomplish other things such as cooking and cleaning. Most American 's
would agree that children watch a lot of TV. It 's common to see a child sitting in front of the TV on
a Saturday morning with their Coco Pebbles watching their favorite superhero. This sounds
harmless enough. However, many parents and teachers across the country are worried about the
cartoons their children are watching. They feel that the cartoons have become too violent and are
having negative long–term effects on children. It is common to see young boys pretending to shoot
one another, while jumping on the couch and hiding in closets as a sort of make–believe fort. But
parents say that children are learning these behaviors from cartoons and imitating them. Others
however, disagree, they say that violence in cartoons does not effect children and that children need
this world of fantasy in their lives. They say that children would show these same behaviors
regardless of the content of the

Negative And Negative Effects Of Cartoons On Children
Introduction I have grown up with cartoons and absolutely loved them. I never imagined what they
could do to someone's mental state I never questioned this until the day I was at an autistics boys
house. He was watching SpongeBob in this episode SpongeBob gave Patrick (SpongeBob's best
friend) a haircut and within the space of 3 minutes the autistic boy had a pair of scissors in his hands
and tried to cut my hair. At the time I was shocked by this and thought does this mean cartoons can
have adverse effects on people. So that's why I decided on this topic to find out the negative and
positive effects of cartoons on people. The negative effects of cartoons. Through my research, I have
found many cases and examples of what cartoons are capable of not only just for autistic people.
One of the studies I found was conducted in Turkey and was named ''The influence of violent TV
cartoons watched by school children in Turkey'' this study's purpose was to find the effects of
different cartoons on school children The research was conducted on a total of 300 students chosen
randomly. A 20 question document was used for data collection, using interviews with the students.
It was found out that the male students who were interviewed liked more violence orientated
cartoons and were more likely to imitate what those characters were doing
(http://www.scielo.br/scielo.phpscript=sci_arttext&pid=S0103–21002012000900021) . I found this
intriguing as I thought that it would be similar results for both genders I assume that boys are more
connected with the cartoons and find small things to associate themselves with. There are many
effects cartoons can have and a lot of them aren't good for example if a child was to watch 4+ hours
of cartoons every day there would be a higher chance of obesity, the child could be struggling with
social skill as it is much easier to just switch on the tv than talk to someone. If a child watches
violent cartoons regularly they are more likely to desensitize to violence and loss, also if a child was
to watch cartoons where a character jumped out of a tree and walked away without a scratch the
child may do the same (https://www.azernews.az/analysis/58562.html) . Like I said in my

Political And Political Politics Of The Twentieth Century
What is the history of political cartooning?
The history of political cartooning is used for social and political messages which goes back to the
eighteenth and nineteenth centuries in America with Benjamin Franklin's "Join or Die", which
depicts a snake whose severed parts represent the colonies and unless put together are sure to perish.
Since Benjamin Franklin started political cartooning back in the eighteenth century, people have
started using their artistic skills to attack, argue and add their opinions on the most important
political issues of the day. Political cartoons were often posted in the newspapers, posted on walls or
passed from person–to–person. By the end of the nineteenth century, they were an important part of

Although there were four New England colonies, Benjamin Franklin gathered into one category to
stress the need for the colonial unity. At the time of the cartoon being made, the colonists firmly
debated making west of the Appalachian Mountains bigger and fighting the French and the Indians,
which were their allies.
As publisher and printer, Benjamin Franklin drafted several cartoons that persuaded colonists to
rebel against England. "Join or Die" appeared alongside Benjamin Franklin's editorial about the
"disunited state" of the colonies and that means to unite or to be attacked by French and Indian
allies. Ahead of time, Benjamin Franklin knew that in order to convince the colonists, he first had to
convince the public. Straight–forward and powerful images, followed by a clear and expressive
prose has the power to create conversation among the populations. With drawing the cartoon,
Benjamin Franklin voiced a strong opinion in a keen, potent and sophisticated way. The second
American cartoonist was not as famous as Benjamin Franklin was in American history, his name
was Paul Revere. Paul Revere was a silversmith and an engraver who created incendiary cartoons
disguised as prints of news events. By the time of Abraham Lincoln's presidency, more than dozens
of cartoons had appeared every year in magazines, newspapers, penny–prints, posters, lithographs
and broadsides.

Cartoons and Children
Aim– To understand the effect of cartoon viewing on children aged 6–11 years old–
Introduction –
When we are born we have the capacity for motivation, experience, and training and because of this
our minds are very impressionable. Therefore our brain's development is a dynamic mix of nature
and nurture, so it is important to choose a healthy environment for all children. Children ranging
from the age of six months to about twelve years of age go through various stages of emotional and
physical development. During this age go through various stages of emotional and physical
development. During this age however they have extremely impeccable minds due to which external
stimuli have a major in shaping their personalities.

On Satire Essay
How and why is a social group represented in a particular way?
The main social group portrayed in the cartoon "On Satire" by Joe Sacco, published in The
Guardian, is the cartoonists. "On Satire" portrays other cartoonists as obnoxious, insensitive
cavemen who often cross the line between satire and just outright offensive mockery of the religious
beliefs of Muslims. The purpose of the cartoon is to ridicule the black and white way of
representation/depiction of all Muslims as terrorists. Also he is aiming to get governments and news
outlets to consider ways in which to stop terrorism by understanding where they are coming from
instead of just eradicating all Muslims and hoping that terrorism dies with them. Two social groups

They are meant to appeal to Logos, the logical side in the readers, and Pathos, the emotional side or
more specifically ability to empathize. Many cartoonists make satires and ironic cartoons that are
meant to bring something important to the artists into public knowledge, and some just want to poke
fun at some habits or traditions of other cultures and religion. But there are those who take it too far,
which is where Logos comes in. Of course most readers, or at least the ones the cartoons are not
ridiculing, find it very easy to just laugh, but as demonstrated by Sacco, it's very easy to cross the
line between a harmless, informative joke and a borderline cruel mockery of something that is
important or sacred to others. Pathos on the other hand is appealed to by asking to empathize with

Rick And Murty Moral Analysis
Rick and Morty: Adventures Through Space and Morality
Through the invention of the television, the art of animation was able to transition from the big
screen to the small screen. Serialized animated adventures boomed in the 80's and 90's as a market
to pander for children, with dry, easy to follow storylines and bright flashing colors – no room for
adult humor or ideas. However, just as the medium changed from film to television, the medium of
cartoons has changed as well, opening up for innovative, if at times crude, animated series. Among
this new influx of shows, one space time adventure has emerged to set itself apart from the usual
lineup of grown–up cartoons. Rick and Morty has proven to be one of the most entertaining adult
cartoon show with its engaging story and characters, witty commentary, and its clever use of science
fiction tropes and dark comedy to balance the two.

The Pros And Cons Of Cartoons

it would be reasonably logical to conclude that the consumption of animated cartoon shows are
indeed, a worldwide phenomenon. Since 1960s, cartoons have provided numerous generations of
children with a type of entertainment that filled their little minds with fantasy and imagination.
Cartoons may have started out as an entertainment for children. However, the world today sees

However, since this group of audiences is at the stage of learning more complex knowledge that
may be tedious to infuse into entertainment–based animated shows, the scriptwriters would rather
leave the academic teachings to the schools. Instead, cartoons of this genre are evidently focused on
delivering moral values and encouraging friendships and family–cohesiveness. Plots for these
cartoon shows might feature the characters going through some distressing troubles or difficulties;
however, things always turn out right in the end. 'SpongeBob Squarepants', a long–run cartoon
series from the 90s featuring SpongeBob the yellow sponge and his starfish best friend Patrick, has
been undoubtedly successful in imparting valuable lessons on friendship and altruism in the minds
of teenagers. For example, SpongeBob has always been portrayed as being very giving and selfless
to Patrick who might sometimes seems brainless and naive; Patrick, on the other hand, though
usually emotionless, becomes very sad when SpongeBob befalls some unfortunate fate, and always
attempts to help him at his best efforts. Cartoons for the young adults may also adopt a more lenient
language style, permitting the use of trending slangs and everyday phrases such as 'what's up' or
'aww–man' which are otherwise fended off by the scriptwriters of a children's

"Ed, Edd n Eddy" takes place in a small town called Peach Creek, with a suburban neighborhood

The Message Behind The Laugh Essay
The Message Behind The Laugh When people look at cartoons, most do not study the underlying
message, but simply find humor in the split second message they just read. Dating back to The
Golden Age, 1770–1830, a few men known as Townshend, Bunbury, Woodward, and Nixon,
transformed the art form, introducing a more playful style and a strong element of personal
caricature (http://www.cartoonmuseum.org/explore/history–of–cartoons–comics). [Webster] defines
a cartoon as "a drawing, as in a newspaper or magazine, caricaturing or symbolizing, often
satirically, some action, situation or person of topical interest" (quoted in Gerberg 128). Cartoons
are divided into sub–categories depending on their purpose, and the message the author is trying to
portray because each cartoon has a different goal the author is trying to achieve. In today's age, we
turn to expert Mort Gerberg to interpret the definition of cartoons and educate how cartoons are
utilized to express opinions using different tones. Gerberg is a professional cartoonist whose work
has appeared in publications such as The New Yorker, Playboy, Harvard Business Review, and The
Huffington Post (128). He has contributed to 43 books on the topic of cartooning during his career
and he wrote, "What Is a Cartoon," to argue that cartoons are rhetorical constructs using images and
languages to express opinions. A type of cartoon that plays an important role in society is known as

Link Between Cartoon And Caricature
Introduction
Cartoon or political genre depicts human's artistic ability of transforming ideas and knowledge into
pictures of his own choice. In the literature the terms cartoon and caricature are used
interchangeably and indiscriminately, which creates confusion. What then is the distinction between
a cartoon and a caricature? Historically, cartoon refers to the preparatory designs for a large drawing
or painting (Coupe 1967). The link between these two concepts can be traced back to 1843 when
John Leech described as cartoons the parodies he drew of the cartoons for the frescos in the Houses
of Parliament, London (Coup 1969). Streicher(1967) continues 'that what in literature is satire, in
pictorial art is caricature, satire typically deals with demonstration and exposure of human vices or
follies in order to scorn or ridicule humans; graphic caricatures ridicule pictorially.' In political ...

The Influence Of Political Cartoons
Another type of political comedy that is often undervalued today is political cartoons. Prior to the
television becoming a mainstream medium, political cartoons constituted the majority of political
comedy. This power stemmed from the fact that political cartoons were often presented in print
media, such as newspapers and magazines. As print media has fallen out of demand, however,
political cartoons ceded their position to late–night comedy shows. This is not to suggest that
political cartoons cannot exist in a TV–dominated society; rather, that a bit of its availability and
power has been transferred to other media. Political cartoons still exist and have potential to alter
viewers' perception of the current political climate. In fact, some argue that the political cartoon has
experienced a resurgence due to social media. One study phrased it like this: "Shared on social
media, these cartoons created an impression of "déjà vu", showing us the same metaphors again and
again in a very limited space of time" (Bouko, Calabrese, & De Clercq, 2017). Not only do editorial
cartoons still exist, their power has been augmented by the structure and nature of social media.
Internet memes also constitute a section of this and will be discussed in–depth later. While political
cartoons have been replaced by satirical television in the West, many places are still heavily
influenced by them. For example, one recent study looked at the effect that political cartoons had on

Cartoon Analysis: Gravity Falls
Cartoons have become a major source of media for all ages of people to consume. From more
childish cartoons such as Dora the Explore to more mature comedies like Family Guy, everyone has
a cartoon of some variation that they can connect with. Of these cartoons there is one particular
show, Gravity Falls, that has stuck out of the norm as it is not only odd, but also dark compared to
its counterparts. The show is targeted towards middle school children as it followed the strange life
of 12–year–old twins Dipper and Mabel Pines as they spend their summer vacation with their great
uncle in Gravity Falls, Oregon. As the story progresses Dipper and Mabel mature until the end of
the summer when they get ready to return to school for 8th grade. As ... Show more content on

Her dreams of being in a "High School Musical" setting will not be happening as most students are
still in development of self–identity. Brown and Knowles mention how students at this age are in
search of identity when it comes to many different areas and how discovering who they are "may be
the most challenging and exclusive journey for young adolescence" (Brown, 45). For most of these
student, they are still figuring out what their dreams are, let alone singing about them. However, this
does allow for there to be a rather hefty message made between the media's portrayal of high school
and reality. Though ironically presented through a TV show, Gravity Falls tells its viewers that the
media's portrayal of high school is flawed as it is not something to be taken

Humor In Cartoons

  • 1. Humor In Cartoons Cartoons, or as some scholars call caricatures, are metaphorical codification of humor through which cartoonists express their thoughts and opinions by commenting on specific contemporary social and political issues. Attardo and Chabnne (1992) define cartoons as a joke that involve a mixed–code message where humor exists in the lines uttered by the characters. In fact, cartoons have always been seen as a work of art where linguistic and non–linguistic resources are used effectively in a humorous way to convey a certain message. In fact, they are seen as a direct and easy way to convey a message whether via visual and verbal modes, or verbal mode only, or visual mode only. Giarelli and Tulman (2003) argues that readers favors image representation of political and social issues as quick way to understand a complex message. Cartoons are usually found in televisions, newspaper, and recently they are widely spread online on social networks like Facebook and twitter thanks to technology. Cartoons are presented in many forms like political cartoons, short stories, business cartoons etc. Humor in cartoons, especially the political ones, should not be considered as just comics as ... • 3. Marty Bucella's Boys Fail In School Everyone has looked at a political cartoon, and had a laugh. However, have you really analyzed what the cartoon is saying to you? What is it that the cartoonist wants you to know? Political cartoons are visuals that comment on political events or issues while possibly making you laugh. Marty Bucella's political cartoon gives you a vivid detailed look at caricatures, and analyzes student teacher relationships and how a boy is not doing so well in school. The issue of boys failing in school is swept under the rug, but it is a serious issue and affects our country's future. Bucella is an accomplished cartoonist who discovered his talent after he made a greeting card for his girlfriend in college. He thought maybe he could make money doing this and spent the rest of his senior year drawing on notebooks. A picture can be worth a thousand words. Political cartoons have been around since the 1800's. Many historians will say the idea started even before this time period. Most political cartoons are composed of ... The cartoon requires you to open your mind and see what could be going on in your schools. The cartoonist Bucella did an excellent job of pulling you in to the drawing. While looking at the cartoon you recognize there is an issue and what we can do to improve it. Interpretation of education is something that Bucella does often, and this cartoon in particular supports the research I am doing. • 5. The Pros And Cons Of Cartoon Network Something is happening here, and I'm getting a little worried. But first, I'm going to jump ahead a bit and talk in general terms about how it is entirely feasible for us to do everything humanly possible to cultivate people's minds and refine their judgment. Then, I'll back up and fill in some of the details. Okay, so to start with the general stuff, Cartoon Network can pervert any established ideology. It is for this reason that I find it hilarious that it would have the audacity to even pretend that it's a wonderful, charitable organization. As we all know, the truth is that if Cartoon Network doesn't realize that it's generally considered bad style to pilfer the national treasure, then it should read one of the many self–help books on the subject. I recommend it buy one with big print and lots of pictures. Maybe then Cartoon Network will grasp the concept that we are in trouble when hitherto reputable people recover the dead past by annihilating the living present. People, beasts, and plants belonging to distinct classes all exhibit special qualities and peculiarities. Unfortunately, Cartoon Network's special quality is that it swears that it acts in the name of equality and social justice. Despite the emphasis that it places on that asseveration, we all know that it's a willful, malicious, and deliberate lie that serves only to prove that Jacobinism is a kind of prison. It is also, paradoxically, a haven. It is at once confining and empowering. And in the absence of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

I would eat my breakfast in front of the tv and watch the new episodes that would air. Whether it be the classics like Tom and Jerry or Looney Tunes, or some new shows like Foster's Home for Imaginary friends or the PowerPuff Girls. Watching these cartoons brought me solace and joy. It would bring me to its world of wonder and spectre. To this day, these shows have taught me many values and morals that I follow and helped shape me into a better person. It made me think that I would like to give that same feeling to another person. In that moment, I decide that I wanted to do the same thing and create cartoon shows that will invoke the same ... I was once again devastated by what they had said. This time I was sure that I had gotten them to change their minds. I actually thought that this would be the one to shut them down. So, I went back to the drawing boards and wondered about what it was that I had messed up on. I sat there looking down at the drawing, when I noticed that it looked like it had been rushed. It was covered with curved and out of sync lines. The eraser marks made the picture look all dark and muddy with all of the smudges that they had left. I finally realized what was so wrong with my draws. I had rushed all of them. At this point, I didn't know what to do. I had hit a roadblock with nowhere to turn. I felt like my dreams were over and that I would never be able to animate my ideas. The next couple of months I spent my time on other things as I looked for a new pasion. But, none could fill the emptiness of drawing. The joys of sending your ideas down the pencil expressway to its stop at paperway station. It felt amazing and nothing could replace that feeling for me. So, I thought that I would give it another go and this time I would take my time. Once again I was back at it, only this time I would be rolling down a snail's pace and drawing with ease. After every correction, I would wipe off the eraser ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 7. Negative And Negative Effects Of Cartoons On Children Introduction I have grown up With cartoons and absolutely loved them. I never imagined what they could do to someone's mental state I never questioned this until the day I was at an autistic boys house. He was watching SpongeBob in this episode SpongeBob gave Patrick (SpongeBob's best friend) a haircut. not soon after this the autistic boy had a pair of scissors in his hands and tried to cut my hair. At the time I was shocked by this and thought, does this mean cartoons can have adverse effects on people?. So that's why I decided on this topic to find out the negative and positive effects of cartoons on people. The negative effects of cartoons. Through my research, I have found many cases and examples of what cartoons are capable of not only just for autistic people. One of the studies I found was conducted in Turkey and was named '' The influence of violent TV cartoons watched by school children in Turkey'' this study's purpose was to find the effects of different cartoons on school children The Research was conducted on a total of 300 students chosen randomly. A 20 question document was used for data collection, using interviews with the students. It was found out that the male students who were interviewed liked more violence orientated cartoons and were more likely to imitate what those characters were doing (http://www.scielo.br/scielo.phpscript=sci_arttext&pid=S0103–21002012000900021). I found this intriguing as I thought it would be similar results for both genders I assume that boys are more connected with the cartoons and find small things to associate themselves with. There are many effects cartoons can have and many them aren't good, for example if a youngster was to watch 4+ hours of cartoons every day there would be a higher chance of obesity, the child could be struggling with social skills as it is much easier to just switch on the tv than talk to someone. If a child watches violent cartoons regularly, they are more likely to desensitize to violence and loss, also if a child was to watch cartoons where a character jumped out of a tree and walked away without a scratch the child may do the same (https://www.azernews.az/analysis/58562.html) .Like I said in my introduction with the ... • 10. The Case of Swedish Cartoon Artist Lars Vilks On 18 August 2007, Nerikes Allehanda published a series of cartoon works by Swedish cartoon artist Lars Vilks. The cartoon portrayed Islamic Prophet Muhammad as a roundabout dog. In Islamic tradition, it is considered highly blasphemous to make a picture of the Prophet Muhammad. Therefore, the publication has induced severe protests in the Islamic communities. The crisis presented a moral dilemma in journalist practice: Freedom of Expression and prohibiting hate speech, making public statement to disrespect for any religious/ethnic group. As Sweden is the earliest country in the world to constitutionally introduce Free Press, Swedish Press Council has always been committed to protect Freedom of Expression/Press. No authority is allowed to make political decisions on what should be published in media during the process of news production. However, Sweden criminalized acts of public statements that express disrespect to any religious/ethnic group in Regeringens Proposition 2001/02:59. "This provision constitutes a restriction on the form of government constitutional freedom of expression; the penalty is imprisonment for up to two years. In minor cases, however, the penalty fines (Bodström, 2001)." In accordance with Swedish Press Council has an obligation to restrict offending journalist practice with respect to the public safety. It is considered to be a bad comic by the standards by the article The Art of the Funnies: An Aesthetic History by Robert C. Harvey. There were many things that made this very poorly done. The first thing is the progression was not done very well at all. Also the graphic variety of the cartoon was bad, showing small variety. Another thing that was poorly done was the style of it, all seemed very similar. Lastly the main problem was the balance of the cartoon, they all were very similar. The cartoon needed a lot more effort to make it better. This is a cartoon that was very poorly done. One of the main things about this cartoon is the progression, the fact that there is no progression. Progression is how time is depicted. Sequence of panels help create time (8). Neither word nor pictures quite satisfy the cartoon (13). In the cartoon I was given there was no rhyme or reason for the panel placement, it was just random scenes put together. There was no plot in the comic which can make people uninterested. This was evident though out the whole cartoon. Also in most well done cartoons there is more word bubbles used, but in this there are few used. Progression is the most important part of a good cartoon. One cannot just have a picture or word bubbles to be a good cartoon. In the Chocolate Bunny Rehab panel that is done with just the visual. No word bubbles were present. A news story in China where children attempted to mimic their favorite cartoon with near fatal consequences reads: "The Li brothers' tragedy began one fine April afternoon with a bit of play–acting. When 10–year– old Shun Shun ran into eight–year–old Li Haoran and his little brother Li Hao, four, just outside of their village of Mawang, near Lianyungang in Jiangsu province, the three friends decided to play a game. They would act out the big wolf roasting the lamb – an idea the boys later said they got from the popular children's television series Pleasant Goat and Big Big Wolf. Taking the role of wolf, Shun Shun used some scrap cloth he found nearby to tie the two brothers to a tree. After piling some dried leaves around their feet, he set it alight. Within minutes, strong gusts of wind blew the fire out of control. The terrified Shun Shun ran away, leaving the Li boys screaming for help. A passing villager heard their cries and rushed to help. But by the time flames were put out, the brothers were severely burned. The boys were rushed to the county hospital and transferred on the same night to a city hospital, which had better facilities. The death of cartoon tv TV show blocks has been tucked away in the box of many young children (mainly of the male demographic) right next to infrared peripherals, and chewed up and worn action figures that accommodated them. Benjamin Franklin used his first political cartoon, titled Join or Die, to gain support from the colonies for the Crown's war against the French (West, par. 1). • 16. Moral Development And Gender In Teen Titans This cartoon illustrates some common roles that stereotyped men and women. Men are represented as the strong sex. Goku, his allies and enemies are all men, who are trained and prepared physically and mentally to fight. The woman who appears in the plot, since an accessory stays at home, taking care of the house and the children. This construction of character skills is critical for opinions that suggest that women are inferior and simple–minded, compared to intelligent men who use their skills more efficiently. This also implies that men are free from household chores, which women are better suited for domestic skills. The representations of moral development and gender stereotype in this cartoon increase the possibility that aggressive thoughts and feelings will activate and tend to be stimulated. These thoughts and feelings, combined with stimulation, increase the probability that children will behave aggressively. The construction of this cartoon shows very little prosocial behavior, when characters help each other at the time of the fight and the discipline to which they undergo in training. Unfortunately, the level of aggression does not let us appreciate this. Morality is also found to be stereotyped. However there are those who take it too far, which is where Logos comes in. Most readers, at least the ones the cartoons are not ridiculing, find it very easy to just laugh off an offensive joke, but as demonstrated by Sacco, it's very easy to cross the line between a harmless, informative joke and a borderline cruel mockery of something that is important or sacred to others. Pathos, on the other hand, is used to appeal to the emotional side of readers by asking them to empathize with the Jews that have been persecuted, as some believe, for simply been more successful during a time of high rates of unemployment. I never imagined what they could do to someone's mental state I never questioned this until the day I was at an autistic boy's house. He was watching SpongeBob in this episode SpongeBob gave Patrick (SpongeBob's best friend) a haircut. not soon after this the autistic boy had a pair of scissors in his hands and tried to cut my hair. At the time I was shocked by this and thought, does this mean cartoons can have adverse effects on people? So that's why I decided on this topic to find out the negative and positive effects of cartoons on people. The negative effects of cartoons. Through my research, I have found many cases and examples of what cartoons are capable of not only just for autistic people. One of the studies I found was conducted in Turkey and was named '' The influence of violent TV cartoons watched by school children in Turkey'' this study's purpose was to find the effects of different cartoons on school children The Research was conducted on a total of 300 students chosen randomly. A 20–question document was used for data collection, using interviews with the students. It was found out that the male students who were interviewed liked more violence orientated cartoons and were more likely to imitate what those characters were doing . I found this intriguing as I thought it would be similar results for both genders I assume that boys are more connected with the cartoons and find small things to associate themselves with. There are many effects cartoons can have and many them aren't good, for example if a youngster was to watch 4+ hours of cartoons every day there would be a higher chance of obesity, the child could be struggling with social skill as it is much easier to just switch on the tv than talk to someone. If a child watches violent cartoons regularly, they are more likely to desensitize to violence and loss, also if a child was to watch cartoons where a character jumped out of a tree and walked away without a scratch the child may do the same .Like I said in my introduction with the autistic boy children see things and try to recreate them, unlike adults who would watch ... • 22. The Influence Of Political Cartoons Political Cartoons Another type of political comedy that is often undervalued today is political cartoons. Prior to the television becoming a mainstream medium, political cartoons constituted the majority of political comedy. This power stemmed from the fact that political cartoons were often presented in print media, such as newspapers and magazines. As print media has fallen out of demand, however, political cartoons ceded their position to late–night comedy shows. This is not to suggest that political cartoons cannot exist in a TV–dominated society; rather, that a bit of its availability and power has been transferred to other media. Political cartoons still exist and have potential to alter viewers' perception of the current political climate. In fact, some argue that the political cartoon has experienced a resurgence due to social media. One study phrased it like this: "Shared on social media, these cartoons created an impression of "déjà vu", showing us the same metaphors again and again in a very limited space of time" (Bouko, Calabrese, & De Clercq, 2017). Not only do editorial cartoons still exist, their power has been augmented by the structure and nature of social media. Internet memes also constitute a section of this and will be discussed in–depth later. While political cartoons have been replaced by satirical television in the West, many places are still heavily influenced by them. Also he is aiming to get governments and news outlets to consider ways in which to stop terrorism by understanding where they are coming from instead of just eradicating all Muslims and hoping that terrorism dies with them. Many cartoonists make satires and ironic cartoons that are meant to bring something important to the artists into public knowledge, and some just want to poke fun at some habits or traditions of other cultures and religion. But there are those who take it too far, which is where Logos comes in. Of course most readers, or at least the ones the cartoons are not ridiculing, find it very easy to just laugh, but as demonstrated by Sacco, it's very easy to cross the line between a harmless, informative joke and a borderline cruel mockery of something that is important or sacred to others. Pathos on the other hand is appealed to by asking to empathize with the Jews that were been persecuted for simply been more successful during a time when Germany had high rates of unemployment. Sacco obviously wants us to see that in the right context almost anything can be hurtful, which is backed up by the statement: "when we draw a line, we are often crossing one ... • 30. Rick And Murty Moral Analysis Rick and Morty: Adventures Through Space and Morality Through the invention of the television, the art of animation was able to transition from the big screen to the small screen. Serialized animated adventures boomed in the 80's and 90's as a market to pander for children, with dry, easy to follow storylines and bright flashing colors – no room for adult humor or ideas. However, just as the medium changed from film to television, the medium of cartoons has changed as well, opening up for innovative, if at times crude, animated series. Among this new influx of shows, one space time adventure has emerged to set itself apart from the usual lineup of grown–up cartoons. Rick and Morty has proven to be one of the most entertaining adult cartoon show with its engaging story and characters, witty commentary, and its clever use of science fiction tropes and dark comedy to balance the two. Plots for these cartoon shows might feature the characters going through some distressing troubles or difficulties; however, things always turn out right in the end. 'SpongeBob Squarepants', a long–run cartoon series from the 90s featuring SpongeBob the yellow sponge and his starfish best friend Patrick, has been undoubtedly successful in imparting valuable lessons on friendship and altruism in the minds of teenagers. For example, SpongeBob has always been portrayed as being very giving and selfless to Patrick who might sometimes seems brainless and naive; Patrick, on the other hand, though usually emotionless, becomes very sad when SpongeBob befalls some unfortunate fate, and always attempts to help him at his best efforts. • 34. The Message Behind The Laugh Essay The Message Behind The Laugh When people look at cartoons, most do not study the underlying message, but simply find humor in the split second message they just read. Dating back to The Golden Age, 1770–1830, a few men known as Townshend, Bunbury, Woodward, and Nixon, transformed the art form, introducing a more playful style and a strong element of personal caricature (http://www.cartoonmuseum.org/explore/history–of–cartoons–comics). [Webster] defines a cartoon as "a drawing, as in a newspaper or magazine, caricaturing or symbolizing, often satirically, some action, situation or person of topical interest" (quoted in Gerberg 128). Cartoons are divided into sub–categories depending on their purpose, and the message the author is trying to portray because each cartoon has a different goal the author is trying to achieve. In today's age, we turn to expert Mort Gerberg to interpret the definition of cartoons and educate how cartoons are utilized to express opinions using different tones. Gerberg is a professional cartoonist whose work has appeared in publications such as The New Yorker, Playboy, Harvard Business Review, and The Huffington Post (128). He has contributed to 43 books on the topic of cartooning during his career and he wrote, "What Is a Cartoon," to argue that cartoons are rhetorical constructs using images and languages to express opinions. I have been reading his books for a very long time and have read nearly every single book of his. I chose this artist as I have been wanting to replicate one of his cartoons and front covers for a long time. There is not much to dislike about Lincoln's artwork or cartoons as he makes most of the endings on each page funny. What I like about his artwork is, the colours that he uses, he doesn't use dark colours he uses bright colours that stand out on the page. His comedic effects which makes his cartoons humorous and engages me to read more and more of his books. His artwork is very clean cut with no wonk lines and almost looks like it is computer generated. In the literature the terms cartoon and caricature are used interchangeably and indiscriminately, which creates confusion. What then is the distinction between a cartoon and a caricature? Historically, cartoon refers to the preparatory designs for a large drawing or painting (Coupe 1967). The link between these two concepts can be traced back to 1843 when John Leech described as cartoons the parodies he drew of the cartoons for the frescos in the Houses of Parliament, London (Coup 1969). Streicher(1967) continues 'that what in literature is satire, in pictorial art is caricature, satire typically deals with demonstration and exposure of human vices or follies in order to scorn or ridicule humans; graphic caricatures ridicule pictorially.' • 38. The Influence Of Political Cartoons Another type of political comedy that is often undervalued today is political cartoons. For example, one recent study looked at the effect that political cartoons had on viewers in Hong ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
