Benefits Of Universal Healthcare System
Since the advent of health insurance in the 1950s, there have been many models of care that are
come to the scene in an attempt to both control cost of care and improve quality of care. Insurance
models came into being because the fee for service model used until then was proving to increase
cost of healthcare without any measure of quality of services and care provided. Health insurance
models have evolved from the basic hospital offered insurance to employer sponsored coverage
plans. The US health system is broken both financially and quality wise with more than 20% of
gross domestic product being spent on healthcare (Blackstone, 2016).
There has been discussion to have universal healthcare system similar to Medicare as a method to
have a centralized monitoring system of cost. There have also been other systems tried beginning
with HMOs in the 1970s in an effort to streamline access to necessary healthcare services by
employing a gatekeeper to their access at the primary care levels. With patient dissatisfaction, PPOs
were tried which circumvent the necessity of referrals (Hacker, 1998). Either of these models had
substantial effect on healthcare outcomes while the cost of healthcare continued to skyrocket. The
US spends more than any other country on healthcare but outcomes are not better (Blackstone,
2016). In 2010, under President Obama's leadership, Affordable Care Act was passed and one of the
promising features is the formation of accountable care

The Universal Healthcare System
The health care system in the United States is one of the greatest concerns facing Americans today
and is an issue both moral and economic in nature. Some think the system should stay, for all intents
and purposes, the same. They believe that the right to healthcare is a stepping stone toward
socialism, and that it is the responsibility of the individual to obtain health care. These are usually
the more ideologically conservative citizens and politicians who believe that medicine should
remain a free enterprise, not to be constrained by government interference. Then there are those who
believe that healthcare is a right, and the federal government has a responsibility to make sure it is
available to all citizens, not just those who can afford ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
While some argue that a switch to universal healthcare will cost up to $1.5trillion,4 there are other
factors at play that influence the economy. Most Americans have health insurance through their
employer which causes a huge financial strain on that employer, which is in turn reflected in product
and service prices. If the price of goods and services goes up, that could end up hurting the United
States' global competitiveness. Citizens are unwilling to leave their current employer and possibly
start their own business for fear of not being able to afford health insurance on their own.5 Some of
those would–be entrepreneurs could create the next big product that becomes a critical part of the
national economy. On average, the typical family of four in America pays over $20,000 annually on
health insurance,7 money that could be pushed back into the economy. This is all in addition to the
societal costs caused by the lack of universal health care such as fewer years in the workforce,
caused by poor health, and higher cost to public programs like Medicare and the criminal justice
system.5 If someone is uninsured until they reach the appropriate age to enroll in Medicare, they
could have pre–existing, otherwise preventable conditions that will end up costing more money than
it would have to treat them in the first place. In 2005, economist Dr. Kenneth Thorpe published a
report in which he calculated the overall

Universal Healthcare In The United States
The United States of America is the only major country that does not offer healthcare coverage as a
right of citizenship. Most established (advanced) countries have a universal healthcare program,
which means accessibility to every citizen. It is a system usually operates by the federal
government, it has social rules and regulations and is financed through different new taxations. This
issue had been discussed for years– during the Depression and World War II the United States had
no funds to implement the universal healthcare. As an outcome, a privet division was established
that did not provide healthcare to all the citizens. However, the government's role of providing
healthcare insurance developed as a regulatory form to ensure that the elderly and poor were able to
receive healthcare. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Fees were deducted from the workers' pay to cover service. In 1913, the international ladies garment
workers began the first union provided medical service and insurance. During this time, there were
few proposals for universal health insurance program but the attempt failed. The passage of the
Social Security Act of 1935, which created "old age insurance" to help those of retirement age
mandated by the government to increase role in providing healthcare coverage. The federal
government felt that the Social Security act was a major program to protect consumers. The
establishment of the Medicated and Medicare programs into law in 1965, which service elderly,
disable, and indigent individuals also mandated by the government to increase role in providing

Pros And Cons Of Universal Healthcare
Healthcare is the maintenance and improvement of physical and mental health, especially through
the provision of medical services. The US government does fund two kinds of health plans through:
Medicare and Medicaid. They are especially designed for the elderly, disabled, poor, and young.
However, many Americans have their healthcare paid for by their employer. It's often included as a
fringe benefit in job packages. If, by any chance, Americans don't receive healthcare in their job
package, individuals will have to pay by themselves when going for doctor's checkups, dental check
ups..etc. As we know Canada has universal healthcare which is a health care system that provides
healthcare and financial protection to all citizens of a particular country. Universal Healthcare has its
pros and cons. It can either boost the economy or hurt the economy. When it comes to healthcare in
the US, the government plays a major role in healthcare. Their role can either have positive effects
or negative effects.
Healthcare in Canada is delivered through a publicly funded health care system, informally called
Medicare, which is mostly paid through taxes with most services being provided by private entities.
Individual citizens are provided preventative care and medical treatments from primary care
physicians as well as access to hospitals, dental surgery and additional medical services also known
as universal healthcare.
There are many benefits and disadvantages of universal

Thailand's Universal Healthcare Program
Thailand's Universal Healthcare Program It began in 1975 as a social welfare scheme for the poor,
which offered them comprehensive health care (WHO 2012). The scheme covered both basic and
more expensive medical services. Basic care included free prescription drugs, outpatient care,
hospitalization and disease prevention. The more expensive services included radiotherapy, surgery,
critical accident care and emergencies. The scheme, however, excluded renal replacement therapy,
due to budget shortage. In the meantime, the demand for hemodialysis increased in the country. The
National Health Security Office, which implements the Universal Coverage Scheme, recognized the
burden imposed by this demand, especially on account of the not–too–well–controlled major health
risks to kidney diseases, such as diabetes and hypertension. Renal replacement therapy requires
hemodialysis, which costs around 400,000 baht or US$12,100 per year. This is four times more than
the per quality–adjusted life year threshold set by the National Health Security Office subcommittee
allotment for drugs and treatments at 100,000 baht or US$300. Officials believe that kidney disease
should have been included in the Universal Coverage Scheme plan to respond to the rising demand
for hemodialysis in the country. Kidney disease is included in the two other schemes. These are the
Civil Servant Medical Benefit Scheme and the Social Security Scheme, which rely on public funds.

What Is Universal Healthcare
The readings in this module discuss universal healthcare. Universal healthcare was created in order
to ensure that every individual could obtain the health services they need without suffering financial
hardship when paying for them. In fact, universal healthcare is the type of health care plan where
every member of the society can receive health coverage no matter what his or her social status,
income, age, gender, race, etc. is. In fact, more than half the countries throughout the world have
some degree of a guaranteed right to healthcare for their citizens, which are written in their
constitutions. Unfortunately, on the other hand, "The United States is one of 86 countries whose
constitutions do not guarantee their citizens any kind of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The stakeholders in healthcare include the physicians, employees, insurers, and the patients. Having
no universal healthcare benefits all four of these stakeholders. The physicians are being paid a
substantial amount of money and in return the patients are getting exceptional quality of care. The
insurance companies are happy because they are also receiving a great amount of revenue and so are
the employees. Having this type of healthcare system allows all four groups to benefit tremendously.
Of course we have the negative aspects such as high costs and the wait times can be long, but not
nearly as long as universal care. Also not having universal care may be free, but physicians do not
want to work because they are not getting paid what they should be, there really are no insurance
companies, and the patients are not being treating with good quality. I am not sure how this
healthcare system works. Physicians who are benefited substantially will work harder than a
physician who gets the same pay no matter how many patients they see in a day. There is no
absolutely no incentive to work and that is why they universal healthcare system simply does not
work. In fact, the only stakeholders that may be benefiting are the individuals who cannot afford
health insurance. Therefore, many countries may look at our system and think we are ridiculous and
are patients are undervalued, but in reality they truly are not. We may have our flaws, but in my
opinion we have the best possible healthcare system in the

Universal Healthcare Transition
Even though change looks dim, there have been many strategies to make it an easier transition.
America must continue its progress towards universal healthcare with small steps. The government
leaders must also recognize their duty as leaders to stand as a representative of the people. They
must also recognize their moral and ethical position. This will help the citizens to have a chance to
fight for their beliefs. These men and women who are defending the people should understand their
audience as well (Vladeck). They should also fight for the education of the citizens so that
healthcare wouldn't be as big of an issue. This would provide an easier process towards universal
healthcare if people understood how to be healthy (Szasz). Lastly, political leaders need to
understand that the steps that they need to take should not be incremental because those types of
steps/progress have not been sufficient enough to decrease the amount of uninsured people
(Vladeck).
Other than the leaders becoming more aware, there are other strategies for working towards the
transition of universal healthcare. To start, Americans ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This makes it very hard for American's to accept such a change because it is not fair to them. Many
other important factors are needed to be understood before the transition to universal healthcare is
possible. Americans must make sacrifices for the country to prosper. Citizens should recognize that
every man, including women, are created equal and deserve the help to live. Once Americans
understand that helping others will help the entire country, there won't be as big of a need for care,
which may reduce the cost of healthcare. Americans will have to accept the fact that they will be
paying for not only their health but others, and a plan like Bernie Sanders' will make it fair between

Universal Health Care System Of Universal Healthcare
Individuals who reside in countries practicing a system of universal health care have access to the
health services they require, which, consequently, leads to overall healthier populations. Such health
services include, amongst other things, prevention promotion, treatment, rehabilitation and palliative
care.(who.org) These services are provided without the risk of monetary adversity or destitution for
those who use them. Ease of access to health facilities and care in turn leads to healthier people.
Universal health care systems bring the entire populace into contact with good quality services and
health professionals, in addition to medicines and technologies that aid in the diagnosis and
treatment of medical problems. In order to meet the urgent well–being needs of the population, such
systems employ a people–centered combined care approach to treatment that incorporates:
Information programs which support healthy lifestyles and avoidance of sickness
early detection of chronic conditions
capability to treat diseases
assistance for patients in convalescence and
provision, where needed, of sympathetic palliative care (who.org)
The ambition of universal health is always to deliver a growing number of health services over time
and to guarantee that populations have opportunities to participate in strategic preventive health
programs. In this way, the goal of countries that provide universal health care is to continually work
and strive to maintain healthier

Healthcare Plan For A Universal Healthcare Program
Section 1: Summary
Medicare has had many legislative changes to modernize the program since it was first signed into
law. Medicare has assisted many retirees from a financial disaster by providing benefits during a
healthcare crisis. The prescription drug program has ensured seniors have access to the medications
they require. Medicare has also provided care to the disabled that are under age 65. This national
social healthcare program has also come under fire politically because of the extremely high cost of
the program.
The baby–boomer generation is aging and adding more beneficiaries' at an increasing rate than ever
before and is estimated to impact the federal deficit by over 17% by 2020. Many other countries
have National Healthcare that provides better care at a much lower cost. Medicare was the
motivation for a universal healthcare plan and a program for the U.S. could have a positive impact.
(Starr, 2011).
The Medicare program is being perceived that it will go bankrupt in about 10 years unless there is
major reform. There are six recommendations that should be reformed for the protection of the
program for future generations. The program must protect retirees from an economic healthcare
disaster. The cost of the program must be shared and this will motivate benefactors to reduce cost by
adding accountability to the program. Reducing Medicare expenditures will have a much larger
impact than increasing taxes. Calculating the retirement age in correlation to life

Universal Health Care: Universal Healthcare
Now, a single–payer healthcare, also known as "Medicare for All", is a universal healthcare system
where a "single payer" endowment, usually the State, pays for all health care costs as a substitute of
private insurers. This system would not have insurance premiums, co–pays, deductibles or any other
common form of payment; instead, it would be paid through taxes based on the income of every
person and ability to pay, also funded by the savings obtained from changing the inefficient, profit–
oriented, multiple–payer system to a single–payer that would be non–profit. Every health care plans

Universal Healthcare Be Beneficial For The Usa?
Would the introduction of universal healthcare be beneficial for the USA? "That the U.S. health care
system is broken and needs to be fixed is widely agreed to be true" (Universal Health Care
Opposing Views p 19) is immediately apparent following a brief research of the organization of
health care in the nation. There is an inability to control rising health care costs, and the system,
although considered the most technologically advanced in the world, is riddled with waste and
inefficiency. Year on year, doctors are spending increasingly more time dealing with insurance
related administrative work rather than healing patients, there is gross overuse of care because
employees view healthcare as part of a work–related benefit package, access to health care is based
on ability to pay, and there is constant anxiety caused by the fear of losing employer–sponsored
coverage. In contrast, a system of universal healthcare offers free services that are accessible to all,
releases doctors from insurance paperwork to focus on healing, removes overuse of care because
citizens fund the services through the payment of taxes, and may lead to healthier populations,
among other things. Therefore, although vastly different from the current system, one could consider
whether the introduction of universal healthcare would be beneficial for the USA? History, design

the Centre Daily Times he explains, "Under the universal system, every Costa Rican citizen has

the World Health Organization (W.H.O.); The Costa Rican healthcare system is one of the few in
Latin America that actually offers almost complete, universal coverage, both financial and
geographical, an achievement that is sustained in a financing strategy based upon the contributions
of workers, employers, and the State, typical of social securities. (Saenz, Bermudez, & Acosta,
2010, p. 6) Unlike developed countries, where the insured are required to select between services
depending on which package they can afford, as an example most of the insurance packages in
Obamacare don't include dental or vision insurance. In Costa Rica healthcare, everyone pays the
same, and is fully covered. Also in the W.H.O report; Health insurance in Costa Rica is integrated;

Should Universal Healthcare Be Mandatory?
Should Universal Healthcare be Mandatory for Everyone in the United States?
Something has gone terribly wrong with the healthcare available for citizens in America. There is an
ongoing debate as to how the problem should be addressed. Our current President, Barack Obama,
had a campaign platform that assured every American that he would push for universal health care
in the United States. He attempted to enact legislation for universal healthcare that was initially
blocked by the Courts based on Constitutional grounds. The Supreme Court heard arguments on
March 12, 2012, and the plan was eventually given the nod to go forward (National Federation of
Independent Business v. Sebelius). Finally, in 2014 the first year of an attempt at a universal
healthcare program was implemented. Currently, there are some problems with the implementation
of the program, and many people do not seem to fully understand it. Although the new mandatory
healthcare plan may have some flaws, the right to basic health care should be available and
affordable to every United States citizen.
The goal of universal healthcare is to ensure that every person in the world has access to basic
affordable healthcare. The World Health Organization takes that concept a step further and has
declared that healthcare is fundamental basic human right that should be equally provided for all
people. The United States has been one of the last countries in the world to try to implement a

Arguments Against Universal Healthcare
Introduction
Universal healthcare is a system assigned by the government, stressing that every member of the
society (legally registered within the region) receive health coverage by default, irrespective of their
social background, status, and income, or their medical histories. (Post,2016) Critics towards
universal healthcare argue that despite improvements in public health nationwide, the government
might. This paper highlights factors against universal health care system and advocates that
government should prioritize groups of the population who are on critical issues, such as vicious
cases like cancer and emergencies. Followed by people who are in real need of treatments, such as
diseases that affect their daily functionings and social ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
With all the facts disclosed in the paper, it is clear that universal healthcare is counter–effective. It
causes higher taxation, shortage of doctors and medical supplies, as well as the lack of motivation in
innovation within the industry and enhancing the quality of medical services due to zero
competition. Our conclusion is that holistic free health services should predominantly be given to
vulnerable and low–income groups who suffers from serious conditions so that they can receive
effective treatment in time. Thusly, NHS can not only improve the efficiency in improving waiting
times but also improve service qualities, on the other hand, higher–income groups can benefit from
less taxation and utilize it for minor medical costs. Without a doubt, under serious or emergency
circumstance, higher income population should also be assisted and treated in high

Should the United States have Universal Healthcare?
The question of Universal Healthcare in the United States has valid and non valid arguments with
supporters on both sides of the issue. Millions of Americans do not have affordable health care
insurance. The main question is who is responsible to provide this? Is it feasible for government to
pay for the lack of health care by taxpayer's dollars? Should you be responsible for yourselves or
should you be compensated by the government? Unemployment is at record high making health

Healthcare should be a right for all U.S. citizens because not only would it drastically lower costs
from the current healthcare system for both the individual and the government, but also greatly
improve healthcare rankings and satisfy the majority of the population. By expanding coverage to
all U.S. citizens, universal healthcare would significantly lower healthcare costs for both the
individual and the government. Without a doubt, something should be done to fix the current
healthcare system; it is just a matter of what should be done. Over the past several years, the cost of
healthcare in the U.S. has risen significantly and does not seem to lower, surpassing "$2.2 trillion in
2007". Universal Health Care is a "Social Program", not "socialized medicine"; under Universal
Health Care, one can choose any doctor(s) or public hospital (A "private" hospital, even in the
U.S.A. today, is just that. A hospital that is exclusive to the general population according to the
wealth and contacts of an individual. There is no "out of network" doctor, hospital or medical
facility in the program.
However, the same lack of restrictions applies. In any case, approximately 85% of the populations
having Universal Health Care are very happy with the system. A much, much higher percentage

"The goal of real healthcare reform must be high–quality, universal coverage in a cost–effective
way." How would you feel if you were in need of assistance but could not afford the care? How
would you feel if you wanted to be the next governor but could not afford the tuition? This would
change your outlook on things right? There are citizens here in America who deal with this
everyday. Michael Moore filmed a documentary called Sicko shining light on the america's
healthcare system and the people who are being affected by it. He also showed the effects of
universal healthcare in these countries Canada, Cuba, and Great Britain on how they make the prices
affordable or they pay for it threw their taxes. Though some people believe healthcare and education
should be free because our government is not financially stable, governor may increase tax rate, and
physicians and professors would be paid less.
For a start, America has not been financially stable in years our debt grows by the trillions annually.
We have been in debt since 1783, and it is now 2017. It would be hard to have universal coverage
for health care because our debt is so huge there is no way the government could pay for every
citizen's health care; it would be nice if the government could but realistically it is not possible. Also
that strategy would likewise be a monetary debacle. Any state funded college president with an

1. Select three to four main aspects that you discovered in your research to highlight.
The first thing that I would like to highlight in my research of Canadian universal healthcare vs. US
healthcare is that Canadian health care is federally funded and covers mostly all of the medical
services used by the residents. The US has healthcare for the people but is covered at the citizens'
expense via an insurance company. The citizens are responsible for maintaining the premiums set by
the insurance companies via the employer of the citizens or privately attained. However, this could

Universal Healthcare in the United States
Disputing that the current Healthcare System (Obamacare) in the United States needs reform is not
difficult. Although the current system is a step up from the previous system, lobbying and reform to

Universal Healthcare will increase accessibility, by eliminating the ability of major insurance
companies to discriminate, based on pre–existing conditions and other exclusions to care. A key
debated issue with Universal Healthcare is whether healthcare is a basic right under life, liberty and
pursuit of happiness, or a privilege. Universal Healthcare is built on the idea of healthcare being a
basic human right. As a basic right, all citizens regardless of pre–existing conditions or disabilities
would have the right to necessary healthcare. According to Jerry Levinson,
"A person with a PEC [pre–existing condition] could cost a health insurer millions of dollars. It
therefore behooves health insurance companies that are. Of course, for–profit businesses – to apply
a PEC exclusion to the person and, depending on the severity of their medical problem, limit their
plan coverage, or exclude coverage altogether."
(J. Levinson, 2009).
Universal Healthcare eliminates the need for pre–existing condition clauses, as healthcare would no
longer be a for–profit enterprise.
It can be argued that establishing Universal Healthcare would be a drain of government resources
and would necessitate subsidization by taxes. A Universal Healthcare system provided for all
citizens would create an extra tax on

Arguments Against Universal Healthcare
Universal healthcare is a very controversial subject in the US. One argument is that universal health
care systems would bring costs down and increase our access to care no matter financial status.
Others however, argue that universal healthcare would be too expensive and would reduce the
quality of care you were receiving. However, this is not true because if everyone had access to the
same care there wouldn't be a need for competition in the market. There would be no one to beat or
be better against because everyone would be receiving the same attention no matter where they were
seen.
In the article, "Universal Health Care: Can We Afford Anything Less?" by Gerald Friedman, it
touches on the fact that if healthcare weren't such a special commodity there wouldn't be such a
challenging time getting it. In the article it states, "If health insurance were like other commodities,
like shoes or bow ties, then reducing access might lower costs by reducing demands on suppliers for
time and materials." This supports my original thesis, that if there was equal access available to
everyone there wouldn't be a need for competition in the market. If it wasn't treated as such a gift
and instead as a right it ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
So, while an argument may be that it is the amount of demand making healthcare so expensive, it is
because they make it so difficult for lower–class citizens that it is more expensive for everyone. This

Essay On Universal Healthcare
Universal healthcare is a topic that has been discussed and argued for many years. Some believe that
everyone is entitled to healthcare whereas other think that individuals have the option to choose
whether they want it or not. Now that the Affordable Care Act has been put into place the pros and
cons of everyone being required to have insurance is becoming more evident. I firmly believe that
all U.S. citizens should have health insurance. I think the positives outweigh the negatives in
numerous ways especially from the perspective of socio–economic status.
Requiring all citizens in the United States to sign up for healthcare will be beneficial in several
ways. A major change could be a decrease in the amount of medical bankruptcies that occur. Due to
the high cost of medical bills in America, many people have trouble keeping up with payments and
get into financial trouble. According to a medical study conducted with the Kaiser family, "62% of
personal bankruptcies in 2007 were caused by medical bills ()." This poses an even more serious
problem with those who have a low socio–economic status. Compared to the wealthy, people with
low income pay more for health care and get lower value insurance plans (Rudiger, 2015). If

Individuals who are not insured are more likely to not go to the doctor when needed than those who

many as 44,789 deaths per year (Andrew P. Wilper, 2009)." Requiring each citizen to have health
care can decrease this number by insuring that everyone can go to the doctor when they need rather
than waiting. This will also increase preventative health by allowing people to go for annual

Does giving universal healthcare to its citizens make a country socialist? The answer is no. why I
am answering this question is that, this question is the one of the main arguments against universal
healthcare in America. Even though universal healthcare is a characteristic of most socialist
governments there are governments that are not socialist but have universal health care for example
Australia, United Kingdom and so on and so forth. Universal healthcare is a good idea because of its
many benefits and simplicity.
The origins of healthcare in the United States can be traced back to the 1900's, the heart of the

been implemented in many different European countries. Most of these countries now have a
healthcare system that is far less complex than America's healthcare system. Those against universal
health care may argue that by taking away the choice of choosing healthcare providers people are
essentially losing a right. To that statement I respond by saying this government has a duty to protect
the welfare of its citizens and healthcare falls under the welfare of people so let the government do
its job and don't be an obstacle for progress. My opponents on this issue may argue that healthcare is
a privilege and not a right. To them I ask this question if it is not a right then why do so many other
developed nations have universal healthcare? America is probably the only developed country that
still doesn't have a universal healthcare system that shows that universal healthcare should be a right

Medical costs are getting too expensive. Ever fought with your insurance providers because they
refused to pay for care, or struggle to find an "in–network" provider? I know a woman whose name I
will change for her privacy and the struggles she is going through are a perfect example of an issue
many people face when dealing with insurance; Nancy's (name changed for privacy) story is a
perfect example of how our healthcare system is no longer working for the people. Nancy is this

The administration of the United States is incompetent and is growing more useless, this is stated
when a compare and contrast between the United States, who does not have universal healthcare,
and Canada, who does have universal health care. Canada's healthcare is not too far from the United
States but it does vary with certain things. One of these key things is cost, and administration.
(Woolhandler, Himmelstein. 1991) The cost of health care within the United States has enlarged,
Canada's spending has waned. Canada funds the hospitals and doctors with one payer (one lump
sum) while The United States hospitals bills several different insurances (per–patient policy) who
vary with policies, qualifications, and certification. Doing this causes a complex accounting scheme
for acquiring payment and further charging insurance and patients. Another reason the
administration of healthcare in the United States is incompetent is due to private insurance, because,
the owner profits a percentage of premiums that is much larger that the federal government.
The United States could implement a universal healthcare program; however, it has yet to be put
into effect. The last time it was attempted it was turned down despite the efforts by the Clinton
administration. The Clinton

Universal Healthcare Essay
Introduction
Universal Healthcare is a system under which basic health needs can be paid by a single government
payer. Basic health care needs include treatment for urgent, emergent, preventative, reconstructive,
routine, and chronic care. The United States is the only wealthy and industrialized country that does
not universal health care, however, does have a publicly funded government health care program for
the elderly, disabled, military service, and veterans. Programs like these only cover one quarter of
the U.S. population.
Universal healthcare can be thought as similar to a single–pay health care system. ... Show more

Therefore, many of these people who are uninsured "delay" treatment until it is absolutely necessary
for them to see a doctor (Universal Health Care). By this time most of these patients have reached a
point in their sickness where there is far more treatment needed, and therefore, costs more money.
Consequently, this has an effect of places who are established to help the uninsured since they take
in so many losses many of these establishments are forced to cut back on services or even be forced
to shut down (Universal Health Care). To look at it in simple terms, Universal Health care would
give everyone a right to carry some form of health coverage. As people who pay taxes, they would
be getting coverage for things important in their life. This includes health care. These people would
be able to be covered for "preventive care, pregnancy and childbirth, acute, chronic and catastrophic
conditions, rehabilitation and end–of–life care" with no bearing on their economic condition
(Howard, 2007, p. B.7).
Benefits of Universal Health Care
Implementing a universal health care system would not necessarily force everyone to fall into the
realm of having no options. One argue that by putting Universal Health Care into practice here in
the united states, Americans would be covered and for those who didn't like the system would be
allowed to choose other health care alternatives

Universal Health Care in the U.S What would you say when I told you that if you look at a list of
the worlds developed industrialized nations that there is only one developed country in the world
that doesn't have a universal healthcare system. Some of the countries on this list include Japan,
Germany, and even Canada. The United States, a global power, our home and the world's largest
economy is the only westernized industrial country without universal healthcare. The amount of
people dying due to a lack of medical coverage is at an all–time high, while the U.S also has the
most expensive healthcare system in the world for its citizens. According to Toni Johnson, author of
the article "Healthcare Costs and U.S Competiveness" "The United States spends an estimated $2
trillion annually on healthcare expenses, more than any other industrialized country. According to
data from the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD), the United States
spends two–and–a–half times more than the OECD average, and yet ranks with Turkey and Mexico
as the only OECD countries without universal health coverage." (Johnson) For a country that spends
so much it seems strange we do not even offer the best health care in the world. It also seems even
stranger that there are over 45 million Americans who are going without health insurance. (Johnson)
Universal health care is defined as a basic guarantee of health care to all its

Advantages And Disadvantages Of Universal Healthcare System
Every healthcare system in existence has advantages and disadvantages. Each healthcare system
benefits different populations. The universal healthcare system, however, is often believed to be one
of the best healthcare systems in the world. It is questionable why this is presumed because this
system has a number of flaws that creates challenges for doctors, families, and communities. Many
people can find themselves frustrated due to long waiting lists and the seemingly apathetic work of
physicians when it comes to the care of their patients. A previous 5–year resident of Canada
experienced the challenges of the universal healthcare system first hand. In an interview, she
declared that "if someone needed to go to the doctor they had to plan ... Show more content on

This has created a shortage of physicians within these rural areas, leaving many patients without a
primary physician. Bazuik lived in Ontario for the five years she was in Canada. The closest big city
being Toronto, seven hours away. During this time, she had two different physicians. She recalled,
"we did have a family physician, but some people did not and they were on a waiting list" (Bazuik).
These citizens are a part of the "1.5 million Ontarians (or 12 percent of that province's population)
[that] can't find family physicians" (Grazter). Outside of this province there are places all across
Canada with the same issues. This lack of patient care is impacting citizens to stay in these areas and
even Canada. Universal health care causes a chain of reactions within Canada. Before it begins to
impact patients and families, the doctors are affected causing the most influential outcomes within
the country. A survey done found that 55 per cent of doctors reported that their practices are being
influenced by government–driven policies rather than evidence–based clinical medicine and 70 per
cent of doctors reported that they are feeling attacked or vilified by the Canadian government (Gill).
These are a selected number of reasons that

Is Universal Healthcare A Right Or A Privilege?
A question that liberal democratic states continue to ponder on is whether universal health care is a
right or a privilege. It is a legal yet conceptual question that truly can say a lot about where a nation
stands today, particularly in the political realm. An equitable state requires that high quality care is
accessible to all and that the quality of care provided does not vary based on personal characteristics
such as income or status. The state has a responsibility to provide its citizens with adequate and
appropriate health care. Without access to it, the health care system is simply regarded as a
commodity in the market, sold by the state and bought by the wealthy, with profits generated.

Many can argue that yes, unfeasible access to health can take away ones right of equal opportunity
but health is not equivalent to healthcare. They believe that there are social determinants that have a
larger impact on one's health than a healthcare system does, with poverty being the most prominent.
Yes, poverty can strongly impact an individual's health, and perhaps it seems as if medical attention
can do nothing to change that. However, affordable healthcare can potentially help the least
advantaged save the money they spend towards healthcare. This additional money can essentially
push them out of poverty and allow them to afford better living conditions. Poverty can be a result
of expensive government services that do nothing but push individuals into financial deficiency. It
has been statistically proven that the rise in poverty rates is closely related to healthcare

Imagine a young girl, she is extremely sick, but there is an easy cure. However, this beloved
daughter and sister will slip the thread that has been holding her and leave her family to grieve;
leave her younger sister immovable from her bedside; leave her distraught mother unable to recover.
This is all because the family couldn't afford her health; all because people are too stingy to even
glance at those in need. Even though some people can't afford healthcare, that doesn't make them
any less deserving of it. Therefore, those who can afford it should support the effort to make it

A single payer health care system causes an increase in taxes as the system needs to be paid for. The
overall costs if the system can be draining on a country and causes large debts. The existing U.S
government healthcare programs such as Medicare, Medicaid and the Children's Health Insurance
Program are already putting a huge strain on public budget. Adding a universal healthcare program
to these would amount to enormous growth in government spending and debt. Governments aren't
that great at running large systems and the fact that the government runs health care can lead to a lot
of problems. To run the health care system there may need to be cuts made in other areas of the
government which weaken those areas to compensate for the need of the health care system.
However, this doesn't mean that government can't adjust. Throughout the last 3 centuries our

The Pros And Cons Of Universal Healthcare
America is split in two, with one group of people saying that a universal healthcare system would
benefit greatly. while the opposition claims that a universal healthcare system would do more harm
than good. Both sides use rhetorical devices such as pathos and logos to prove their claim. this is
done by introducing things such as world rankings and potential events that could happen.
Article 1 claims that the establishment of a universal healthcare system would benefit the United
states. This article supports its claim by providing Logos, Ethos, and Pathos in its argument.
Examples of logos found in the text include, a statistic that states that in 2005 about 45 million
Americans did not have health insurance. By including this statement, the editorial makes it it clear
that many people in the US will benefit from a universal system of healthcare and makes the reader
wonder how these people pay for doctor visits. In addition, the editorial states that the World Health
Organization ranked the US at number 37th in terms of quality of care and adult morality rate. This
gives the editorial a backbone so to speak since it ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

those that already have a healthcare plan. Also, the editorial speaks on the part of people who
decided on having a healthy lifestyle who will have to pay the same as someone who does not. This
brings the question as to is it fair for these people to pay the same even though they consciously
make better decisions for their health. Furthermore, the editorial claims that with a universal

Universal Healthcare

Abstract
People today consider America one of the world's greatest countries. Many Americans enjoy a high
standard of living compared to many other parts of the world. Yet somehow the health care system
in America ranks number 37 in the world. (The World Health Organization's ranking of the world's
health system) Although the United States is known to be one of the most advanced countries in the
entire world, they spend more money on healthcare than any other country. (Zablit) America does
not have universal healthcare coverage. Ultimately, lives are being lost due to proper and affordable
healthcare being out of reach for some citizens.
Without universal healthcare coverage each American is responsible for obtaining their own health
insurance. This can be done through their employer or private insurance companies and the person is
responsible for the monthly premium as well as a deductible, co–pay, or other portion of the
healthcare service. The insurance company covers the remaining costs. (Q&A: US healthcare

primary care, in–patient care and long–term healthcare. Healthcare is free at the point of service

by a supplementary tax on their income. Here every citizen is under health coverage their entire
lifetime regardless of any other requirement. Due to such a structure, preventive medication may be
used for the overall health of the country. This pattern also helps in keeping the cost of prescription
drugs low, thus making healthcare affordable.

What seems to be the most consistent theme through this book is the authors approach in
determining the advantages and disadvantages within each system, which in itself creates a basis for
comparison for the US with each story relayed.6
Philosophy of the Book 's Author The philosophy relayed by the book's author consistently leads
back to the moral question that must be asked in the initial design of the healthcare system. That
determination has to do as to whether the government has a duty to act when there are those within
their own country do not have equitable access to hospitals and doctors for the treatment of their
conditions.14 The most industrialized countries in the world have long since made the decision to
provide universal healthcare coverage, yet the United States still lags behind in this department.
What people of a country should expect and feel reassured of is that if and when they fall ill, they
will receive the proper care necessary to get better without the worry of being denied care or face
bankruptcy for doing receiving medical care.2 A country which does not make the moral

Universal Healthcare in the United States
The United States is known as one of the greatest world powers: however it is held back by its weak
healthcare system. As of 2010 the US healthcare system currently ranks the 37th best out of 190
countries. Before the introduction of the Affordable Care Ac in 2010, the united States had an
individual insurance market. It was the responsibility of the individual or their employer, to take
care of their healthcare costs. On top of this millions of people could be denied insurance by
different agencies due to pre–existing claims. Healthcare was expensive, but the costs were nothing
compared to the medical bills owed by an uninsured person. Universal healthcare is a basic right not
a privilege. Everyone should be given the opportunity to have health insurance no matter his or her
income. Isn't this the principle of freedom and basic right what America was based on? On half of
all bankruptcies in the United States are due to an inability to pay medical bills. These problems all
pose a question and the answer Is Universal Healthcare. The federal government has the interest of
all American citizens on its mind and universal healthcare is a perfect way of highlighting that fact.
The Affordable Care act provides low cost healthcare to the previously uninsured and guarantees
continued healthcare in the case of job loss. Many people are still opposed to this act. This new
system of universal healthcare will lead to improvements within the lives of American Citizens.

Universal Healthcare ( Obamacare )
Universal healthcare (Obamacare) is it worth the trouble to sign up for and then be able not to
qualify for the healthcare insurance. Universal typical mean all Americans, there is no way that all
Americans have health a plan. America is the only country that does not have this type of care. The
healthcare system is not up to par, there are so many to choose from how one know the right one for
their particular needs. There are more questions than answers. This is impossible to navigate when
making decisions about medical insurance. The marketplace for insurance has to be a joke because
not everyone qualifies for their insurance, so that means those who do not qualify have to find an
alternative to insurance. Universal healthcare is not crucial for American to sign up for it made
things more complicated. There are some who do not have healthcare. Are we to believe that all
Americans have some type of medical insurance this could not be true? How do the government
count the people who have insurance and who doesn't have insurance. Research or doing surveys
could be a few ways to count these individual but that still will not be the correct number or average
of people. There are homeless and low income people that do not have insurance, so will this
program work, There are some who believed that Obamacare was actual to make health coverage

companies. Private insurances are voluntary. They also have compulsory insurances and community

Universal Healthcare Vs. Public Healthcare
For everyone around the world, health is shown to be the most important thing but difficult to
obtain. In trying to give healthcare everyone in a country, an idea which I saw a lot of countries
thought about was Universal Healthcare. A system in which the government in a country provides
healthcare to every individual. From this system what I notice the government does is provide
assistance to its citizens insuring they do not need to think about insuring themselves with a private
or public healthcare, however, the same one everyone in the country is using. The great thing about
universal healthcare is it can ensure every citizen 's of a country can get helped.
In today 's world as money is what everyone needs to have, a situation gets shown. A threat gets
shown whether people could be treated or not upon what they have. Seeing this problem as many
countries try to form affordable way to assist people where the idea of money gets not seen as a
problem it gets illustrated how due to how many people there are countries still face the struggle of
dealing with money. The great things that I believe universal health care could lead to is provide
healthcare benefits to all persons in specific region with a basic cover in which its inhabitants can
find something affordable in which individuals can take care of themselves. Upon this plan it is not
just so people could afford healthcare however, along with one's coverage they can get anything
from their healthcare they want.

On the right one is I do disagree with you on having universal health care the other was it would

offset by not having to pay for health care. Imagine if you can, someone with preexisting conditions
not having to pay for health care? That person could lead a productive life that would benefit
everyone including the government by paying more in taxes again offsetting the cost of universal
health care.

Benefits Of Universal Healthcare System

  • 1. Benefits Of Universal Healthcare System Since the advent of health insurance in the 1950s, there have been many models of care that are come to the scene in an attempt to both control cost of care and improve quality of care. Insurance models came into being because the fee for service model used until then was proving to increase cost of healthcare without any measure of quality of services and care provided. Health insurance models have evolved from the basic hospital offered insurance to employer sponsored coverage plans. The US health system is broken both financially and quality wise with more than 20% of gross domestic product being spent on healthcare (Blackstone, 2016). There has been discussion to have universal healthcare system similar to Medicare as a method to have a centralized monitoring system of cost. There have also been other systems tried beginning with HMOs in the 1970s in an effort to streamline access to necessary healthcare services by employing a gatekeeper to their access at the primary care levels. With patient dissatisfaction, PPOs were tried which circumvent the necessity of referrals (Hacker, 1998). Either of these models had substantial effect on healthcare outcomes while the cost of healthcare continued to skyrocket. The US spends more than any other country on healthcare but outcomes are not better (Blackstone, 2016). In 2010, under President Obama's leadership, Affordable Care Act was passed and one of the promising features is the formation of accountable care ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 5. The Universal Healthcare System The health care system in the United States is one of the greatest concerns facing Americans today and is an issue both moral and economic in nature. Some think the system should stay, for all intents and purposes, the same. They believe that the right to healthcare is a stepping stone toward socialism, and that it is the responsibility of the individual to obtain health care. These are usually the more ideologically conservative citizens and politicians who believe that medicine should remain a free enterprise, not to be constrained by government interference. Then there are those who believe that healthcare is a right, and the federal government has a responsibility to make sure it is available to all citizens, not just those who can afford ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... While some argue that a switch to universal healthcare will cost up to $1.5trillion,4 there are other factors at play that influence the economy. Most Americans have health insurance through their employer which causes a huge financial strain on that employer, which is in turn reflected in product and service prices. If the price of goods and services goes up, that could end up hurting the United States' global competitiveness. Citizens are unwilling to leave their current employer and possibly start their own business for fear of not being able to afford health insurance on their own.5 Some of those would–be entrepreneurs could create the next big product that becomes a critical part of the national economy. On average, the typical family of four in America pays over $20,000 annually on health insurance,7 money that could be pushed back into the economy. This is all in addition to the societal costs caused by the lack of universal health care such as fewer years in the workforce, caused by poor health, and higher cost to public programs like Medicare and the criminal justice system.5 If someone is uninsured until they reach the appropriate age to enroll in Medicare, they could have pre–existing, otherwise preventable conditions that will end up costing more money than it would have to treat them in the first place. In 2005, economist Dr. Kenneth Thorpe published a report in which he calculated the overall ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 9. Universal Healthcare In The United States The United States of America is the only major country that does not offer healthcare coverage as a right of citizenship. Most established (advanced) countries have a universal healthcare program, which means accessibility to every citizen. It is a system usually operates by the federal government, it has social rules and regulations and is financed through different new taxations. This issue had been discussed for years– during the Depression and World War II the United States had no funds to implement the universal healthcare. As an outcome, a privet division was established that did not provide healthcare to all the citizens. However, the government's role of providing healthcare insurance developed as a regulatory form to ensure that the elderly and poor were able to receive healthcare. ... • 13. Pros And Cons Of Universal Healthcare Healthcare is the maintenance and improvement of physical and mental health, especially through the provision of medical services. The US government does fund two kinds of health plans through: Medicare and Medicaid. They are especially designed for the elderly, disabled, poor, and young. However, many Americans have their healthcare paid for by their employer. It's often included as a fringe benefit in job packages. If, by any chance, Americans don't receive healthcare in their job package, individuals will have to pay by themselves when going for doctor's checkups, dental check ups..etc. As we know Canada has universal healthcare which is a health care system that provides healthcare and financial protection to all citizens of a particular country. Universal Healthcare has its pros and cons. It can either boost the economy or hurt the economy. When it comes to healthcare in the US, the government plays a major role in healthcare. Their role can either have positive effects or negative effects. Healthcare in Canada is delivered through a publicly funded health care system, informally called Medicare, which is mostly paid through taxes with most services being provided by private entities. Individual citizens are provided preventative care and medical treatments from primary care physicians as well as access to hospitals, dental surgery and additional medical services also known as universal healthcare. • 17. Thailand's Universal Healthcare Program Thailand's Universal Healthcare Program It began in 1975 as a social welfare scheme for the poor, which offered them comprehensive health care (WHO 2012). The scheme covered both basic and more expensive medical services. Basic care included free prescription drugs, outpatient care, hospitalization and disease prevention. The more expensive services included radiotherapy, surgery, critical accident care and emergencies. The scheme, however, excluded renal replacement therapy, due to budget shortage. In the meantime, the demand for hemodialysis increased in the country. The National Health Security Office, which implements the Universal Coverage Scheme, recognized the burden imposed by this demand, especially on account of the not–too–well–controlled major health risks to kidney diseases, such as diabetes and hypertension. Renal replacement therapy requires hemodialysis, which costs around 400,000 baht or US$12,100 per year. This is four times more than the per quality–adjusted life year threshold set by the National Health Security Office subcommittee allotment for drugs and treatments at 100,000 baht or US$300. Officials believe that kidney disease should have been included in the Universal Coverage Scheme plan to respond to the rising demand for hemodialysis in the country. Kidney disease is included in the two other schemes. These are the Civil Servant Medical Benefit Scheme and the Social Security Scheme, which rely on public funds. • 21. What Is Universal Healthcare The readings in this module discuss universal healthcare. Universal healthcare was created in order to ensure that every individual could obtain the health services they need without suffering financial hardship when paying for them. In fact, universal healthcare is the type of health care plan where every member of the society can receive health coverage no matter what his or her social status, income, age, gender, race, etc. is. In fact, more than half the countries throughout the world have some degree of a guaranteed right to healthcare for their citizens, which are written in their constitutions. Unfortunately, on the other hand, "The United States is one of 86 countries whose constitutions do not guarantee their citizens any kind of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The stakeholders in healthcare include the physicians, employees, insurers, and the patients. Having no universal healthcare benefits all four of these stakeholders. The physicians are being paid a substantial amount of money and in return the patients are getting exceptional quality of care. The insurance companies are happy because they are also receiving a great amount of revenue and so are the employees. Having this type of healthcare system allows all four groups to benefit tremendously. Of course we have the negative aspects such as high costs and the wait times can be long, but not nearly as long as universal care. Also not having universal care may be free, but physicians do not want to work because they are not getting paid what they should be, there really are no insurance companies, and the patients are not being treating with good quality. I am not sure how this healthcare system works. Physicians who are benefited substantially will work harder than a physician who gets the same pay no matter how many patients they see in a day. There is no absolutely no incentive to work and that is why they universal healthcare system simply does not work. In fact, the only stakeholders that may be benefiting are the individuals who cannot afford health insurance. Therefore, many countries may look at our system and think we are ridiculous and are patients are undervalued, but in reality they truly are not. We may have our flaws, but in my opinion we have the best possible healthcare system in the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 25. Universal Healthcare Transition Even though change looks dim, there have been many strategies to make it an easier transition. America must continue its progress towards universal healthcare with small steps. The government leaders must also recognize their duty as leaders to stand as a representative of the people. They must also recognize their moral and ethical position. This will help the citizens to have a chance to fight for their beliefs. These men and women who are defending the people should understand their audience as well (Vladeck). They should also fight for the education of the citizens so that healthcare wouldn't be as big of an issue. This would provide an easier process towards universal healthcare if people understood how to be healthy (Szasz). Lastly, political leaders need to understand that the steps that they need to take should not be incremental because those types of steps/progress have not been sufficient enough to decrease the amount of uninsured people (Vladeck). Other than the leaders becoming more aware, there are other strategies for working towards the transition of universal healthcare. To start, Americans ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This makes it very hard for American's to accept such a change because it is not fair to them. Many other important factors are needed to be understood before the transition to universal healthcare is possible. Americans must make sacrifices for the country to prosper. Citizens should recognize that every man, including women, are created equal and deserve the help to live. Once Americans understand that helping others will help the entire country, there won't be as big of a need for care, which may reduce the cost of healthcare. Americans will have to accept the fact that they will be paying for not only their health but others, and a plan like Bernie Sanders' will make it fair between the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 29. Universal Health Care System Of Universal Healthcare Individuals who reside in countries practicing a system of universal health care have access to the health services they require, which, consequently, leads to overall healthier populations. Such health services include, amongst other things, prevention promotion, treatment, rehabilitation and palliative care.(who.org) These services are provided without the risk of monetary adversity or destitution for those who use them. Ease of access to health facilities and care in turn leads to healthier people. Universal health care systems bring the entire populace into contact with good quality services and health professionals, in addition to medicines and technologies that aid in the diagnosis and treatment of medical problems. In order to meet the urgent well–being needs of the population, such systems employ a people–centered combined care approach to treatment that incorporates: Information programs which support healthy lifestyles and avoidance of sickness early detection of chronic conditions capability to treat diseases assistance for patients in convalescence and provision, where needed, of sympathetic palliative care (who.org) The ambition of universal health is always to deliver a growing number of health services over time and to guarantee that populations have opportunities to participate in strategic preventive health programs. • 33. Healthcare Plan For A Universal Healthcare Program Section 1: Summary Medicare has had many legislative changes to modernize the program since it was first signed into law. Medicare has assisted many retirees from a financial disaster by providing benefits during a healthcare crisis. The prescription drug program has ensured seniors have access to the medications they require. Medicare has also provided care to the disabled that are under age 65. This national social healthcare program has also come under fire politically because of the extremely high cost of the program. The baby–boomer generation is aging and adding more beneficiaries' at an increasing rate than ever before and is estimated to impact the federal deficit by over 17% by 2020. Many other countries have National Healthcare that provides better care at a much lower cost. Medicare was the motivation for a universal healthcare plan and a program for the U.S. could have a positive impact. (Starr, 2011). The Medicare program is being perceived that it will go bankrupt in about 10 years unless there is major reform. There are six recommendations that should be reformed for the protection of the program for future generations. The program must protect retirees from an economic healthcare disaster. The cost of the program must be shared and this will motivate benefactors to reduce cost by adding accountability to the program. Reducing Medicare expenditures will have a much larger impact than increasing taxes. Calculating the retirement age in correlation to life ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

This system would not have insurance premiums, co–pays, deductibles or any other common form of payment; instead, it would be paid through taxes based on the income of every person and ability to pay, also funded by the savings obtained from changing the inefficient, profit– oriented, multiple–payer system to a single–payer that would be non–profit. • 41. Universal Healthcare Be Beneficial For The Usa? Would the introduction of universal healthcare be beneficial for the USA? "That the U.S. health care system is broken and needs to be fixed is widely agreed to be true" (Universal Health Care Opposing Views p 19) is immediately apparent following a brief research of the organization of health care in the nation. There is an inability to control rising health care costs, and the system, although considered the most technologically advanced in the world, is riddled with waste and inefficiency. Year on year, doctors are spending increasingly more time dealing with insurance related administrative work rather than healing patients, there is gross overuse of care because employees view healthcare as part of a work–related benefit package, access to health care is based on ability to pay, and there is constant anxiety caused by the fear of losing employer–sponsored coverage. In contrast, a system of universal healthcare offers free services that are accessible to all, releases doctors from insurance paperwork to focus on healing, removes overuse of care because citizens fund the services through the payment of taxes, and may lead to healthier populations, among other things. Therefore, although vastly different from the current system, one could consider whether the introduction of universal healthcare would be beneficial for the USA? Ortner Miami Dade College Universal Healthcare in Costa Rica Aside from being an amazing place to vacation, Costa Rica has some of the best healthcare in Latin America. In the U.S. healthcare is outrageously expensive. Even with Obamacare, some people can't afford it. Costa Rica has universal healthcare, which has been up and running for more than 70 years, where everybody is cover. In an article written by Chris Gilbert for the Centre Daily Times he explains, "Under the universal system, every Costa Rican citizen has health care coverage and can use the public system." (Gilbert, 2014). As stated in a report written by the World Health Organization (W.H.O.); The Costa Rican healthcare system is one of the few in Latin America that actually offers almost complete, universal coverage, both financial and geographical, an achievement that is sustained in a financing strategy based upon the contributions of workers, employers, and the State, typical of social securities. (Saenz, Bermudez, & Acosta, 2010, p. 6) Unlike developed countries, where the insured are required to select between services depending on which package they can afford, as an example most of the insurance packages in Obamacare don't include dental or vision insurance. In Costa Rica healthcare, everyone pays the same, and is fully covered. Also in the W.H.O report; Health insurance in Costa Rica is integrated; that is, there is no separation of service packages ... • 49. Should Universal Healthcare Be Mandatory? Should Universal Healthcare be Mandatory for Everyone in the United States? Something has gone terribly wrong with the healthcare available for citizens in America. There is an ongoing debate as to how the problem should be addressed. Our current President, Barack Obama, had a campaign platform that assured every American that he would push for universal health care in the United States. He attempted to enact legislation for universal healthcare that was initially blocked by the Courts based on Constitutional grounds. The Supreme Court heard arguments on March 12, 2012, and the plan was eventually given the nod to go forward (National Federation of Independent Business v. Sebelius). Finally, in 2014 the first year of an attempt at a universal healthcare program was implemented. Currently, there are some problems with the implementation of the program, and many people do not seem to fully understand it. Although the new mandatory healthcare plan may have some flaws, the right to basic health care should be available and affordable to every United States citizen. The goal of universal healthcare is to ensure that every person in the world has access to basic affordable healthcare. The World Health Organization takes that concept a step further and has declared that healthcare is fundamental basic human right that should be equally provided for all people. Arguments Against Universal Healthcare Introduction Universal healthcare is a system assigned by the government, stressing that every member of the society (legally registered within the region) receive health coverage by default, irrespective of their social background, status, and income, or their medical histories. (Post,2016) Critics towards universal healthcare argue that despite improvements in public health nationwide, the government might. With all the facts disclosed in the paper, it is clear that universal healthcare is counter–effective. It causes higher taxation, shortage of doctors and medical supplies, as well as the lack of motivation in innovation within the industry and enhancing the quality of medical services due to zero competition. Our conclusion is that holistic free health services should predominantly be given to vulnerable and low–income groups who suffers from serious conditions so that they can receive effective treatment in time. Thusly, NHS can not only improve the efficiency in improving waiting times but also improve service qualities, on the other hand, higher–income groups can benefit from less taxation and utilize it for minor medical costs. The question of Universal Healthcare in the United States has valid and non valid arguments with supporters on both sides of the issue. Millions of Americans do not have affordable health care insurance. The main question is who is responsible to provide this? Is it feasible for government to pay for the lack of health care by taxpayer's dollars? Should you be responsible for yourselves or should you be compensated by the government? Healthcare should be a right for all U.S. citizens because not only would it drastically lower costs from the current healthcare system for both the individual and the government, but also greatly improve healthcare rankings and satisfy the majority of the population. By expanding coverage to all U.S. citizens, universal healthcare would significantly lower healthcare costs for both the individual and the government. Without a doubt, something should be done to fix the current healthcare system; it is just a matter of what should be done. Over the past several years, the cost of healthcare in the U.S. has risen significantly and does not seem to lower, surpassing "$2.2 trillion in 2007". Universal Health Care is a "Social Program", not "socialized medicine"; under Universal Health Care, one can choose any doctor(s) or public hospital (A "private" hospital, even in the U.S.A. today, is just that. Pros And Cons Of Universal Healthcare Layel Givens Prof. Murray Engl 102–014 Pro–Con Essay October,5,2017 Universal Healthcare "The goal of real healthcare reform must be high–quality, universal coverage in a cost–effective way." How would you feel if you were in need of assistance but could not afford the care? How would you feel if you wanted to be the next governor but could not afford the tuition? This would change your outlook on things right? There are citizens here in America who deal with this everyday. Michael Moore filmed a documentary called Sicko shining light on the america's healthcare system and the people who are being affected by it. He also showed the effects of universal healthcare in these countries Canada, Cuba, and Great Britain on how they make the prices affordable or they pay for it threw their taxes. Though some people believe healthcare and education should be free because our government is not financially stable, governor may increase tax rate, and physicians and professors would be paid less. For a start, America has not been financially stable in years our debt grows by the trillions annually. We have been in debt since 1783, and it is now 2017. It would be hard to have universal coverage for health care because our debt is so huge there is no way the government could pay for every citizen's health care; it would be nice if the government could but realistically it is not possible. • 65. Canadian Universal Healthcare Comparison Presentation Assignment: 5 | Health Economics, HSA 510, Dr. Lewis Mustard | Kristie Parker, December 19, 2012 | 1. Select three to four main aspects that you discovered in your research to highlight. The first thing that I would like to highlight in my research of Canadian universal healthcare vs. US healthcare is that Canadian health care is federally funded and covers mostly all of the medical services used by the residents. The US has healthcare for the people but is covered at the citizens' expense via an insurance company. The citizens are responsible for maintaining the premiums set by the insurance companies via the employer of the citizens or privately attained. However, this could explain why nearly 50 ... Accessibility: All insured persons have reasonable access to health care facilities. **Retrieved from http://www.canadian–healthcare.org/. 2. Synthesize your findings. To synthesize my findings would be to look at the current "Obamacare" that has been adopted into our government to help with the 50 million plus Americans that are without health insurance now. The Health Care Act shows that "Obamacare" is individually mandated, penalty for not buying insurance is $695 minimum, and the employer is mandated for companies with over fifty employees. A $750 per employee for companies over 50 employees for penalties of employers not providing insurance; subsized insurance for anyone earning up to 400% of poverty level; children can stay on parents' plan until age 26; and these benefits are both annual and lifetime basis, retroactive rescinding of coverage is forbidden; pre–existing conditions that insurers are required ... Universal Healthcare And The United States Jaicie Mosbey Instructor: Sarah Farrell Persuasive Essay February 8, 2015 Universal Healthcare in the United States Disputing that the current Healthcare System (Obamacare) in the United States needs reform is not difficult. Although the current system is a step up from the previous system, lobbying and reform to get a Universal Healthcare bill passed resulted in the original legislation being rewritten to an almost unrecognizable level. However, true Universal Healthcare creates a system that is more affordable by eliminating fluctuating copays and premiums, Universal Healthcare increases accessibility for everyone by eliminating exclusions to care, and finally it takes healthcare out of the hands of multibillion dollar companies and puts ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Universal Healthcare will increase accessibility, by eliminating the ability of major insurance companies to discriminate, based on pre–existing conditions and other exclusions to care. A key debated issue with Universal Healthcare is whether healthcare is a basic right under life, liberty and pursuit of happiness, or a privilege. Universal Healthcare is built on the idea of healthcare being a basic human right. As a basic right, all citizens regardless of pre–existing conditions or disabilities would have the right to necessary healthcare. According to Jerry Levinson, "A person with a PEC [pre–existing condition] could cost a health insurer millions of dollars. It therefore behooves health insurance companies that are. Of course, for–profit businesses – to apply a PEC exclusion to the person and, depending on the severity of their medical problem, limit their plan coverage, or exclude coverage altogether." (J. Levinson, 2009). Universal Healthcare eliminates the need for pre–existing condition clauses, as healthcare would no longer be a for–profit enterprise. It can be argued that establishing Universal Healthcare would be a drain of government resources and would necessitate subsidization by taxes. • 73. Arguments Against Universal Healthcare Universal healthcare is a very controversial subject in the US. One argument is that universal health care systems would bring costs down and increase our access to care no matter financial status. Others however, argue that universal healthcare would be too expensive and would reduce the quality of care you were receiving. However, this is not true because if everyone had access to the same care there wouldn't be a need for competition in the market. There would be no one to beat or be better against because everyone would be receiving the same attention no matter where they were seen. In the article, "Universal Health Care: Can We Afford Anything Less?" by Gerald Friedman, it touches on the fact that if healthcare weren't such a special commodity there wouldn't be such a challenging time getting it. In the article it states, "If health insurance were like other commodities, like shoes or bow ties, then reducing access might lower costs by reducing demands on suppliers for time and materials." This supports my original thesis, that if there was equal access available to everyone there wouldn't be a need for competition in the market. In reality, it is a dilemma for a first–world, democratic country like America. Universal healthcare recently becomes a heated issue as Obamacare, also known as the Affordable Care Act, was passed through Congress. Many people, who were uninsured previously, are now able to purchase insurance at an inexpensive cost. They are relieved. After many years of being denied to healthcare, some people finally gain access to the right care, the right treatment. It is hard to just get rid of it and start something new when so many people are currently taking advantage of the plan now. Everyone has the right to have healthcare, and we just need to figure out how everyone can afford it without it hurting the country. Universal healthcare is a type of insurance that is available to everyone regardless of their situations, income, age or gender, just to name a few. Since the government is the one that pays for this insurance, it is no wonder that that may be a problem. • 85. Essay On Universal Healthcare Universal healthcare is a topic that has been discussed and argued for many years. Some believe that everyone is entitled to healthcare whereas other think that individuals have the option to choose whether they want it or not. Now that the Affordable Care Act has been put into place the pros and cons of everyone being required to have insurance is becoming more evident. I firmly believe that all U.S. citizens should have health insurance. I think the positives outweigh the negatives in numerous ways especially from the perspective of socio–economic status. Requiring all citizens in the United States to sign up for healthcare will be beneficial in several ways. A major change could be a decrease in the amount of medical bankruptcies that occur. Due to the high cost of medical bills in America, many people have trouble keeping up with payments and get into financial trouble. According to a medical study conducted with the Kaiser family, "62% of personal bankruptcies in 2007 were caused by medical bills ()." This poses an even more serious problem with those who have a low socio–economic status. Compared to the wealthy, people with low income pay more for health care and get lower value insurance plans (Rudiger, 2015). If everyone had medical coverage this problem ... The answer is no. why I am answering this question is that, this question is the one of the main arguments against universal healthcare in America. Even though universal healthcare is a characteristic of most socialist governments there are governments that are not socialist but have universal health care for example Australia, United Kingdom and so on and so forth. Universal healthcare is a good idea because of its many benefits and simplicity. The origins of healthcare in the United States can be traced back to the 1900's, the heart of the progressive era (Health Insurance), and from that time period itself it has been met with some serious opposition. Most of these countries now have a healthcare system that is far less complex than America's healthcare system. To that statement I respond by saying this government has a duty to protect the welfare of its citizens and healthcare falls under the welfare of people so let the government do its job and don't be an obstacle for progress. My opponents on this issue may argue that healthcare is a privilege and not a right. The administration of the United States is incompetent and is growing more useless, this is stated when a compare and contrast between the United States, who does not have universal healthcare, and Canada, who does have universal health care. Canada's healthcare is not too far from the United States but it does vary with certain things. One of these key things is cost, and administration. (Woolhandler, Himmelstein. 1991) The cost of health care within the United States has enlarged, Canada's spending has waned. Canada funds the hospitals and doctors with one payer (one lump sum) while The United States hospitals bills several different insurances (per–patient policy) who vary with policies, qualifications, and certification. Doing this causes a complex accounting scheme for acquiring payment and further charging insurance and patients. Another reason the administration of healthcare in the United States is incompetent is due to private insurance, because, the owner profits a percentage of premiums that is much larger that the federal government. Basic health care needs include treatment for urgent, emergent, preventative, reconstructive, routine, and chronic care. The United States is the only wealthy and industrialized country that does not universal health care, however, does have a publicly funded government health care program for the elderly, disabled, military service, and veterans. Programs like these only cover one quarter of the U.S. population. Universal healthcare can be thought as similar to a single–pay health care system. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Therefore, many of these people who are uninsured "delay" treatment until it is absolutely necessary for them to see a doctor (Universal Health Care). By this time most of these patients have reached a point in their sickness where there is far more treatment needed, and therefore, costs more money. Consequently, this has an effect of places who are established to help the uninsured since they take in so many losses many of these establishments are forced to cut back on services or even be forced to shut down (Universal Health Care). To look at it in simple terms, Universal Health care would give everyone a right to carry some form of health coverage. As people who pay taxes, they would be getting coverage for things important in their life. This includes health care. These people would be able to be covered for "preventive care, pregnancy and childbirth, acute, chronic and catastrophic conditions, rehabilitation and end–of–life care" with no bearing on their economic condition (Howard, 2007, p. B.7). Benefits of Universal Health Care Implementing a universal health care system would not necessarily force everyone to fall into the realm of having no options. One argue that by putting Universal Health Care into practice here in the united states, Americans would be covered and for those who didn't like the system would be allowed to choose other health care alternatives ... Universal Healthcare : Universal Health Care Devin Byrne Owens English 1001 12 December 2014 Universal Health Care in the U.S What would you say when I told you that if you look at a list of the worlds developed industrialized nations that there is only one developed country in the world that doesn't have a universal healthcare system. Some of the countries on this list include Japan, Germany, and even Canada. The United States, a global power, our home and the world's largest economy is the only westernized industrial country without universal healthcare. The amount of people dying due to a lack of medical coverage is at an all–time high, while the U.S also has the most expensive healthcare system in the world for its citizens. According to Toni Johnson, author of the article "Healthcare Costs and U.S Competiveness" "The United States spends an estimated $2 trillion annually on healthcare expenses, more than any other industrialized country. According to data from the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD), the United States spends two–and–a–half times more than the OECD average, and yet ranks with Turkey and Mexico as the only OECD countries without universal health coverage." (Johnson) For a country that spends so much it seems strange we do not even offer the best health care in the world. It also seems even stranger that there are over 45 million Americans who are going without health insurance. The universal healthcare system, however, is often believed to be one of the best healthcare systems in the world. It is questionable why this is presumed because this system has a number of flaws that creates challenges for doctors, families, and communities. Many people can find themselves frustrated due to long waiting lists and the seemingly apathetic work of physicians when it comes to the care of their patients. A previous 5–year resident of Canada experienced the challenges of the universal healthcare system first hand. Outside of this province there are places all across Canada with the same issues. This lack of patient care is impacting citizens to stay in these areas and even Canada. Universal health care causes a chain of reactions within Canada. Before it begins to impact patients and families, the doctors are affected causing the most influential outcomes within the country. A survey done found that 55 per cent of doctors reported that their practices are being influenced by government–driven policies rather than evidence–based clinical medicine and 70 per cent of doctors reported that they are feeling attacked or vilified by the Canadian government (Gill). It is a legal yet conceptual question that truly can say a lot about where a nation stands today, particularly in the political realm. An equitable state requires that high quality care is accessible to all and that the quality of care provided does not vary based on personal characteristics such as income or status. The state has a responsibility to provide its citizens with adequate and appropriate health care. In trying to give healthcare everyone in a country, an idea which I saw a lot of countries thought about was Universal Healthcare. A system in which the government in a country provides healthcare to every individual. From this system what I notice the government does is provide assistance to its citizens insuring they do not need to think about insuring themselves with a private or public healthcare, however, the same one everyone in the country is using. The great thing about universal healthcare is it can ensure every citizen 's of a country can get helped. In today 's world as money is what everyone needs to have, a situation gets shown. A threat gets shown whether people could be treated or not upon what they have. Seeing this problem as many countries try to form affordable way to assist people where the idea of money gets not seen as a problem it gets illustrated how due to how many people there are countries still face the struggle of dealing with money. Looked into your example of England's health care problem, wish you had given a reference because I couldn't find anything ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Once addressed, the United States can join the other industrialized countries that have long since implemented universal healthcare systems such as: Germany, France, United Kingdom, and Canada; who have more cost effective systems which produce better health outcomes than the US.1 Setting the focus outwards and learning from both the success stories and the growing pains as would be beneficial in shaping a universal healthcare system of care. In order to achieve universal healthcare coverage, the author delivers this message to the reader through direct experiences in those countries, whom without the fundamental change in its approach to healthcare, would not have the flexibility necessary to organize the resources required to make it a reality. Each country provides examples of different blueprints, yet all aim to achieve the same set goal of universal healthcare coverage. This was evident in the interactions with healthcare experts and providers of care when receiving health services in the different countries visited.4 The stories discussed from around the world prove to be extremely ...
