2. FIRST OBSERVATION REPORT:
Teacher Educator: Estela N. Braun
Student Teacher: Camila Viñati.
The lesson was taught following a very good plan which was mainly based on the
textbook. There was activation of prior knowledge from the previous lesson.
Camila showed a very good teacher’s stance. The lesson started with a “hello
song” routine.
What went well:
Her voice was loud and clear and she handled instruction very well: she repeated
them so that everyone could understand. All the time she provided suitable
scaffolding for each individual student. She acted as a controller and facilitator,
making sure that everyone understood main concepts and could solve the
activities.
The group of fourth grade children is lovely and they worked all the time.
Camila’s role as assessor was great and she checked each activity orally and
provided the answers on the blackboard.
There was a good balance of macroskills: there was listening and reading
practice with an emphasis on personal information. Trainee used a
communicative language approach.
The reading was contextualized by referring to Lionel Messi, a well-known
Argentinian footballer.
There was a critical incident since a few students from fifth grade had to entr the
classroom s their teacher was absent, but at no moment did they show any kind
of disruptive behaviour.
Something that should be improved is Use of English: “Can you said that? We
have a draw (not clear: We have to draw/ we have a drawing’??”
Suggestions for future lessons:
-You could play a guessing game with famous people. You have hidden
pictures and they have to guess who they are by asking questions(except
name): Is it a man or a woman? Where is she/he from? Is he/she a singer? How
old is he/she?
3. - You could provide a poster with the rules for asking questions:
WHAT is his name?
WHERE is she from?
HOW OLD is she?
Wh word+ IS/ARE……?
-Children could interview people at school: their teacher, trainees, other pupils by
asking personal questions. Or prepare a set of questions to interview their
favourite famous person.
-Try to introduce more games and songs.
In your report try to expand by answering the following:
What do you think about the advantages/disadvantages of following a
textbook? Can you send pictures of the posters your pupils made the
pervious lesson?
How do you try to include the girl with some disabilities? Have talked to
the special needs teacher?
The book is by Santillana which offers a platform for teachers. Have you
tried to log in? Could you use it witn the pupils?
GRADE: A very good lesson for the beginning of the practicum. 8 (Eight)
