2. By creating Direct address with the
main image on our magazine this
means that when the audience look at
the magazine they are forced to make
eye contact with the protagonist/main
image this again could create a slight
fear or mystery and make them want to
see the film. We also used direct
address to make a personal connection
between the potential buyer and the
character, this is so that they would feel
the feelings described.
When creating our horror magazine
we Used typical conventions such as
colour schemes to communicate the
genre clearly within the product.
Using Red's and blacks follows the
typical conventions of other horror
films created, red represents blood
and Black represents darkness and
death. These are all components
that add to the audiences fear factor
which also adds to the reason they
will go and watch the film after
viewing the trailer.
When adding typography to our magazine we
made sure that synergy was present throughout
both the magazine and the poster this will help to
link the two together if the audience were to see
them at separate times. We used a variation of
plainer fonts to show that although there are
other stories in there, they are not the main ones
that you would buy the magazine specifically for.
For the background we chose a plain black
with a blood spatter at the top. Both of these
features connote the horror genre and again
make the audience completely understand
how the genre is present.
Horror
Magazine
3. We chose to have our main image facing away from the
camera avoiding direct address this challenges the
typical conventions of a horror poster as they would
usually have direct address to strike fear into the
audiences but we chose to challenge these conventions
by creating mystery and suspense within our poster.
This has been created by completely turning our
character around, so you focus on other things
throughout the poster to make more some of the less
obvious factors become clear. For example you will see
the mask first, then the high heels and then when you
look for longer you begin to notice that the body of the
character looks too feminine to be male.
We developed the conventions of having the
main actors names in clear view on the
poster by adding them directly above the
title so that they are in plain sight, if the
audience see actors names they recognise
they will be more tempted to go and see the
film.
When creating our Theatrical Poster we had to ensure that it reflected the
Teaser Trailer for our film. We did this by editing the poster so that there is
synergy between all 3 media texts.
The typography we used creates an edgy/scary feel to the poster, this is good
because then as soon as the audience looks at it, it shows that it is a horror
poster. Keeping with the red and black theme audiences will recognise this as
typical convention of horror posters and potentially recognise our film by the
colour scheme we have stuck with throughout.
Film Poster
At the bottom of the page we
decided to add in a billing block,
alongside more information of
release dates and the production
company logo. These will give the
viewer any necessary information
that they will need. It also adheres
to typical conventions of a film
poster, because there is enough
information to make the viewer want
to see the film.
