1. Another poster we looked at was Scooby Doo. The premise of all the main
characters being ‘in the action’ is similar to some ideas we discussed. This
poster is effective at portraying the genre of the film which is adventure ,
bordering on a comic twist to a horror theme. This is evidenced by the use
of ‘monsters’ and ‘ghouls’ with their eyes set pryingly upon the main
characters.
The characters themselves are portrayed as if they are in the heat of the
moment with a full body shot, allowing the audience to recognize their
distinctive, trademark outfits. They are pulling facial expressions that vary
from awe to fear.
One convention that is apparent is the colour scheme. The dark
purple/black and green are generally similar to the colours used for other
horror movie posters. It is particularly effective here in order to keep things
simple. The purple area’s highlight the films antagonists, the green the
masthead and the black is used as a backdrop, which the characters
lower half fades into, almost giving the impression of them stepping into
the unknown, adding to the mystery.
The main tagline is quite contrasting and reinforces the mixed genre
impression and nature of the production. ‘A Hero Will Rise’ is quite a
clichéd quote for films that are serious, however ‘On Four Legs’ refers to
the main character Scooby Doo and he is evidently not your stereotypical
brave hero.
‘In Cinemas 2002’ at the bottom is clearly visible among other information
such as the films production credits and the masthead. The fonts used are
typical of those usually used in productions of the horror genre.

2. This poster is somewhat relevant to our own short film in terms of the fact
there is 4 young friends seeking a sense of adventure, although our short
film is more suited to a younger audience.
The poster effectively conveys the genre of the film along with its most
important elements. All four characters are shown each with their own
expressions and are clearly friends.
The background hints to the content of the film. You can clearly see the
strip of what appears to be a popular holiday location for the boys age
group such as the likes of magaluf. The bright vibrant purple hue over the
shopfronts are almost distorted, giving a sense of disorientation which
makes sense as the characters are intoxicated for half the film.
The slogan/coverline appearing at the top of the poster is perhaps the
biggest giveaway to the nature of the movie. It is effective as it
communicates that these boys are likely around the 17/18 year old range
and that they become men whilst on holiday suggests they are up to ‘no
good’.

3. Jumanji as a film probably influenced our short film the most, therefore it
was important to see how it would be portrayed in a poster.
I would say the film is extremely effective and witty in conveying what
happen in the film and a quick glance at this poster makes It easy to
understand the premise. The boardgame being the backdrop of the local
neighbourhood with all the wildlife bursting out on to the streets and
causing havoc shows what happens. This illustrates one half of the story.
The masthead in particular has been effectively used to show the main
character being sucked into it.
The expression of fear on the main characters face along with the broken
objects on the street indicate the level of seriousness in the movie. ‘Roll The
Dice and Unleash The Excitement’ is a clever slogan as that is literally what
happens in the film.
The colours used here are vibrant to show the exoticness of the game and
hint at the adventure. The poster fades into black at the bottom with
Robin Williams being sucked in to convey the mysterious abyss inside of
Jumanji.
The bottom of the poster is relatively standard and includes production
credits such as the studio’s funding the film and the technologies used to
deliver It in the cinema (Dolby Digital)
