2. First Idea
• My first idea was inspired by Sam Smith’s Stay
With Me
• In the video, Sam Smith sings directly at the
camera as it follows him a long a street. In
other scenes, he is singing in a room however,
he is still in the centre of the shot

3. My Idea
• The performance video has inspired my idea
to create something similar. In my video, the
camera will follow the lead singer keeping
them in the centre of the shot at all times.
• Other shots will be in a darker room,
occasionally the camera will break away to
these other shots
• The singer will always be in shot or in focus of
the camera
4. My Idea
• Location: the camera will follow the signer down a street or
anywhere open, somewhere away from the public therefore they
can’t disturb the shots. Although it is not necessary that is outside,
it will provide the best lighting
• Camera Shots: for most of the video, the lead singer will be in the
middle of the shot. This is a performance video so it is a necessity. It
needs to appear like the singer is singing directly for the viewer, it
gives the effect that the singer is directly singing at the audience.
• Unlike traditional performance videos for women, a women singer
would not be overly sexualised. This will contradict the expectations
of Mulvey’s 1975 male gaze theory. My video will not use a ‘voyeur’.
5. Second Idea
• For my Second idea, it was influenced by the
Hoosiers Goodbye Mr A
• In the video, the three band members remove
the hero known as Mr A. The supervillians
then replace him as the heroes for the city
before finally send Mr A off to space.

6. My Idea
• My idea was influenced by a lot of themes seen in
the narrative music video.
• The singers will be costumed as the classic heroes
for comedic effect, they will be seen throughout
the video doing the classic hero acts
• A villain will be in the music video who the
heroes have to fight. None of this will be serious,
it will all be used to mock the traditional
superhero genre
7. My Idea
• Use of costumes; the singer or singers will need to be dressed in the traditional superhero
costumes as they complete their heroic acts.
• Comedy: one of the unique features of the Hoosiers video is its use of comedy which is quite rare
from most music videos now. Whereas most music videos are about break ups or relationships, the
Hoosiers have had their own interpretation on music videos and created something completely
opposite. They haven’t followed the expectations and added various comedic elements to their
video. The comedy can be seen in scenes such as the ridiculous costumes, deporting Mr A to space,
the heroic acts they complete. This separates the vide from most music videos and makes it more
noticeable, it will make it stand out in comparison to a lot of current music videos simply by
incorporating comedy
• Narrative: the Hoosiers video had a very clear narrative and this is a necessity in Narrative music
videos. My music video will have a very clear story seen in the visuals of the music video, it will
keep the audience interested and entertained whilst watching
• Use of colour: throughout the duration of the video, a lot of colour is used. Most notably on the
costumes, it makes the lead singers stand out. They contrast against a very dull and bland
background, this ensures the audiences focus stays on them.
8. Third Idea
• For my final idea, I decided that I needed to
create a performance video therefore I looked
through performance music videos and was
eventually inspired by the Killer’s Mr Brightside
• In the video, the band give a live performance in
front of a rich, Georgian crowd. Although there is
some narrative, most of the video is directly
singing at the audience

9. My Idea
• I was inspired by the video and decided to take
several elements from it. I was inspired by their
live performance to a crowd and I wanted to
incorporate this into my own idea.
• There will be an audience within the video
watching as the signer or singers begin their song
• One band member will be drawn to soemone in
the audience therefore, there is some narrative
to my video. Albeit this is very similar to the
original Mr Brightside Music video
10. My idea
• Costumes: in the video, the costumes were very extravagant and almost Georgian like. Every
character in the room of the performance stood out and each one was dressed uniquely. Like a lot
of music videos now, they include elements such as this to confuse the audience, a strange use of
visuals such as this will follow a modern trend seen throughout a lot of music videos in recent years
• Colour: A use of colour as seen in Mr Brightside keeps the video interesting. It makes it easier to
watch and captivates the audiences attention. The use of colour also makes the video appear more
extravagant which is the desired effect
• Love interest: in the Killer’s vide, a love interest was seen constantly watching the lead singer. This
addition would give the video some narrative. This follows Mulvey’s male gaze theory, the women
has been given a subordinate role, she is there to attract the male attention as well as be an object
of sexual desire. My video will ensure it breaks away from Mulvey’s theory and give the love
interest a more active role.
• Location: the video was shot on a stage which may be harder to get on such a small budget. My
location would need to be open and enough room for an audience to watch the singer/singers
perform. This is essential as it is a performance music video, the singer/singers need a location to
provide a live performance to the audience in the video and the audience watching online
