2. Introduction
• I found out a lot of interesting ideas
and opinions from doing this research.
• Most of the time the audience shared
very similar views, but their was a
few split decisions.
3. What They Liked About
Music Videos
• They all agreed on the fact they like to see the
band performing as one of the main features in a
music video (of an Indie / Rock genre) and also the
audience like to also see a purpose, a story or
something aside from watching the band
throughout, too.
• This therefore means, as originally prepared, I'll
be sticking with the band performance and story
both included in the music video I'll be producing.
4. What They Didn’t Like
About Music Videos
• The audience doesn't really like overly sexualised things in a
music video, especially as this is not the genre to be doing that
in. This also links to ''random'' things - features of the video
that are beside the point and not necessary, or only done just for
the sake of it.
• Location is also important - having more than one place to film is
going to help because otherwise the audience can get bored.
Including a few different locations also means different parts /
stories, therefore more interesting, whereas if you keep to one
location, that one room is only used for a story or a band
performance.
• Other things that were mentioned as negatives in a music video
were ''cheesy'' features, ''a band performance throughout'' and
''dull'' things such as colours and shots used.
• I will almost definitely include at least two different locations
in my music video, and will have no random references or scenes
that either cheesy, overly sexualised or anything off topic.
5. Special Effects
• The view on special effects on an Indie / Rock
video was all very similar - as few bits here
and there, but it's not the right genre of
music to be experimenting on cool and weird
special effects, it's simple music.
• So I'll be keeping back on special effects, I
will only try to enhance the music in a visual
way, not ruin it.
6. Music Videos Out There…
• Their opinions on music videos out there were very
interesting. The Kasabian video with the impressive
lighting has given me a few thoughts on lights for my
video and where to put them / how they should be used
etc.
• I will not make the same mistake as Miley Cyrus' -
Wrecking Ball video, that was just a tragedy in every way
- this links to the overly sexualised and randomness the
others were talking about earlier.
• It was interesting Joe was keen on The Pretender by the
Foo Fighters, the song in which I analysed, so I'll keep
that song in my thoughts for inspiration for my video.
And finally, Joe also mentioned an artist called Rhye and
spoke highly of the story lines and camera work. I did
take a look and they are very, very good. So I'll try and
use some of their techniques to nab for my video.
7. My Idea For A Music Video
• All of them seem quite keen on the
idea for my music video I quickly
explained to them.
• They liked the intro I'll be using
(the sound of footsteps on the track
matched with a visual of the
footsteps) and the mix between a rock
and an Indie video in terms of a story
and a band performance.
8. Conclusion
• There are some very useful ideas and
thoughts that Joe, James and Jaimin
expressed and I will take everything
on board as I start to plan and create
a music video.
