1. Advert Analysis- Oasis Dig Out Your Soul
This image in this advert shows a metaphorical reference to the album
name “Dig Out Your Soul”. You can defer this from the music record and the
magic mushroom as these relate to the highs and lows of the artists life. The
highs being the successful records they have sold and the lows being that
they were often on drugs.
Due to the fact that the advert for this
album doesn’t show an image of the
band members and instead shows the
band name, it shows that the band are
not known for their appearance but for
their brand name and music. This
contradicts Andrew Goodwin’s theory of
voyeurism. Although the album advert
features the bands name, there is a
significant change in the font, as the band
have chosen a more hand written font
rather than their usual harsh, bold font.
This is used to show that the band have
made slight changes to their members.
This could indicate to the audience that
there will be slight changes to their
music. This is to keep audience
interested, as the demands to keep
things new and different are high, as the
niche audience begin to get bored of the
same thing all the time. It has also been
used to hopefully attract to a new
audience to make the band more
popular.
The colours and image of the
background work together to represent
the music produced by Oasis. The blue
sky and the yellow sunlight have
connotations of calmness. This shows
that their background music is calm. The
dark grey clouds below contradict this as
it shows that the lyrics are quite dark
and meaningful.
The advert is quite psychedelic, this is used to
show that the bands genre is indie/ rock, it
also could relate to the band members life style
of drug and alcohol abuse (the stereotypical
rock band lifestyle). This establishes the bands
identity.
