2. They are a global company that publish many different magazine from sports (like
world soccer), music (uncut) and other major titles such as NME.
They currently don’t have a magazine that has the same content and provides a
magazine to the same target market. They don’t have major brands that focus on
the same genre, NME used to be a similar magazine to mine however they have
branched out to different forms of media (e.g. film and TV) in there magazines so
mine would replace them in TimeInc for the same audience.
Who are TimeInc
3. They currently don’t have a cheap indie/ rock music magazine. The closest thing
they have to it's NME and uncut but due to NME branching out to other forms of
media like films and TV and uncut being more appealing to an older audience
there is a gap in the market for a teenage based magazine.
The price of my music magazine £3.50 which is fairly cheap and is affordable for a
monthly music magazine aimed at teenagers because they don’t have as much
disposable income as an older audience.
4. Who are Bauer Media group and why won’t they be appropriate?
• Bauer media group are one of the biggest magazine publishers in the UK
producing magazines like Q and Kerrang and Mojo.
• The reason why I shouldn’t use the company however is that they have two of
the biggest Indie rock music magazines in the UK (Q and Mojo) this would
mean that my one wouldn’t achieve as much publicity and attention from the
group meaning that it wouldn’t be as successful as it could be with a company
like TimeInc.
5. How will my audience get the magazine?
The main way in which my magazine would be consumed is online (website and
app). This is because the target audience are teenagers and they spend a lot
more time on the phones and laptops than a older person. They would pay for a
monthly subscription and would be able to access on laptops, phones, iPads and
other tablets.
However there would be a paper copy available but they will be limited and only
be at local newsagents and shops like WH Smith, ASDA, Tesco, Sainsberry and
Morrisons.
