Argumentative Essay On Homework
Late nights, eyes only kept open by ungodly amounts of coffee, and never ending piles of paper: these are all symptoms of the nation–sweeping
homework epidemic. Students are assigned hours upon hours of after school homework every day – but is it really necessary? Oftentimes, homework
causes more harm than good on the mental, physical, and social health of students; therefore, after school assignments should be limited to the four
core classes, minimizing those loads as much as possible, because more homework does not necessarily lead to highly successful students, immense
amounts of stress are put on students every day, and an eight hour school day should be enough to disseminate the information needed. While some
teachers believe that nightly homework is imperative to student achievement, data shows that homework at any level, from grade school to high school,
does not equal success. Many East Asian countries, including Hong Kong, Taiwan, and Japan had lower average rates of homework, yet ranked very
highly in math. While math homework is usually intended to practice the material learned in class that day, excessive repetition of the same equations
will not make the information stick any more than a few practice problems. As stated by Ty Conner, "...children... are learning this material in order to
complete their homework, which is in turn preparing them for a test, and after that test, the information... isn't reviewed afterwards". Additionally, high
homework rates are

In one study, 82% of students said they experienced feelings of depression and hopelessness in the last month caused by stress over homework (Connor
et al. 30). Every day, students get more and more homework, but research suggests that students may be getting more than what is recommended (Levy
4). In addition, homework has been required to help enhance a student's learning. Research shows that it helps with developing self–regulation skills
and creating positive academic attitudes, but now they are finding that homework and academic scores do not relate to each other as well (Katz et al.
406). Excessive homework has been found to negatively affect high school students by causing stress and anxiety, therefore, teachers should reduce the
amount of homework by doing more of the work in class. For the longest time, homework has been perceived as being beneficial to students. Harris
Cooper, a psychology professor, found that when students did homework, they performed better in school (Reilly 2). He also researched how
homework affects a student's score, noting "that homework is also thought to improve study habits, attitudes toward school, self–discipline,
inquisitiveness and independent problem solving skills" (2–3). When students develop these skills early, they will then be prepared for when they go to
college or get a full time job. It is argued that doing a small amount of homework can be useful to children, but they should not be doing over the
amount that is recommended

Homework Is No Homework
In recent years, the argument over assigning students tremendous amounts of homework each night continues to grow. In a few districts scattered
across the country, superintendents refuse to allow teachers to assign homework to children. The superintendent of Marion County Public Schools in
Florida recently assigned a "no homework" policy for the current school year, joining districts in Massachusetts and Vermont. Most parents and students
across the country admired the district's decision and hoped their own school system would follow suit. A study from Duke University in 2006 showed
that assigning homework did improve academic performance, but an excessive amount could hurt student's mentality. The famous saying "practice
makes perfect" does prove to help people achieve their goals. The more one practices something, the easier it will come to them. Teachers assign
homework to give students more opportunities to practice what they have learned in class. In that case, some homework should be assigned, but on the
other hand, too much homework becomes unhelpful to the student. For instance, if a math teacher starts on a new section, practice problems will help
the student prepare for the next class. Except, assigning thirty questions of the same type of problem becomes too monotonous. A math teacher should
only assign ten problems at the maximum. At that point, the teacher should answer any question a student might have the following day. Teachers tell
students that the

A high schooler comes home from school. He gets out his homework and gets started. The mom of the student said start your homework and then we
will eat.The mom spends an hour at dinner, but the student is not done with his homework. He is asking his dad all types of questions, but he is too
busy to help. That happens every day at this family home. When the boy got his test scores back later in the year, they were so low. Students have busy
lifestyles and stress at home. They need time away from studies to appreciate what they learn. There are so many things that can help them prepare for
life outside of school and giving a lot of homework causes stress to the student and family. I wanted to find a way to get schools to cut down on
homework. Too many kids are doing badly on a test because of the time constraints and stress to complete homework. So let's do something about it.
When I was researching, I asked myself "How can I get schools to cut down on homework?"After all the research that I did, it was clear to me that we
can help the kids in school to have less homework.
Statistics about too much homework are illuminating: too much homework can lead to being counterproductive. After a school day, kids come home
and do their homework that can cause stress to a family that has other needs or issues, such as low income. Too much homework can have a negative
effect because they might be from a home that doesn't have everything they need. They might not have parents or older siblings

Homework Should Not Have Homework
Schools should not give any homework. First, homework makes kids not get enough sleep and energy for the next day. Next, Kids don't get enough
family time after school or even on weekends. Also, homework can cause mental issues which can be bad for their health. Additionally, a lot of other
people also agree with me about the no homework policy.
One reason we shouldn't have homework is because kids don't get enough sleep for the next day. "We really want the kids to go home at 4 o'clock,
tired. We want their brain to be tired," Kelly ElementarySchool Principal Jackie Glasheen Said in an interview with a local TV station." Said
time.com. First, Kids are already tired from school when they get home. But, with homework, they get tired faster and then don't even get enough
sleep for the next day. Like the principal said they think that making kids tired is learning, but it doesn't really mean we're learning more, it is just
wearing us out and making us not want to work any longer."Brandy Young told parents, she would not formally assign any homework this year, asking
students instead to eat dinner with their families, play outside and go to bed early."Is what the article time.com explained. Consequently, homework
makes kids not get enough sleep at night because they are up working on their homework half the night or even longer. These kids shouldn't have to do
this. According to Katie Reilly, "Second graders, for example, should do about 20 minutes of homework each night, but

Homework: Is it the Best Use of Time
"Some experts think that the homework problem is deeply woven into the very fabric of our system of educating children;" a system that does not
foster a love of learning, but makes learning a competition between students (Ponte). In modern education, this is a result of a massive push towards
better test grades, and higher standardized test scores. In an effort to relieve some of the pressures this creates at school, educators extend the school day
by assigning homework. It is a common belief among educators that homework helps creates a student with a disciplined mind that can learn easier
(Marzano 74). However, according to Alfie Kohn, "in an attempt to create more learning by doing homework, students may actually be learning less
than they are capable of" (qdt. in Ponte). The assignment of homework in education is not beneficial since it does not increase scores, since not all
kids have the right support, and since students need time to learn outside of academics. Experts have done a lot of research on homework trying to
determine its benefits on scores and long term achievement. On one hand, advocates of homework say that assigning appropriate homework raises test
scores of average students by up to 29 percent compared to average students that were not assigned homework (Marzano). Although this may be true,
what is appropriate and who gets to determine this? The problem lies with the fact that what is appropriate for one student

Homework is the schoolwork in which a teacher assigns their students to complete in the after school hours. There are some teachers here in the United
States that allot their students several homework assignments to have completed each night. A lot of these teachers assign their students so much
homework with the hopes of raising their test scores. However, are these homework assignments actually helping to raise student's test scores or is
this a myth? The large portion of homework that teachers are assigning to their students nowadays is not only affecting these students on the social
aspect of their lives, but with their extracurricular activities and the amount of sleep they get each evening as well. Therefore, homework should be
divided amongst teachers in a way in which they are told which days they are allowed to assign homework and how much they are allotted to give
their students on a daily basis.
When teachers require their students to complete loads of homework by a certain date this leaves the students with little to no time to participate in
after school activities such as: sports, clubs, band, church groups, and several other events. A survey conducted by a researcher from Stanford
University indicated that when students spend too much time on their homework they are not reaching the necessary developmental needs or
reaching life skills needed for their age group (Parker). When students are so caught up on completing their homework they are more likely to "drop
activities, not see friends or family, and not pursue hobbies they enjoy" (Parker). It is not healthy for students to be spending all their time outside of
school working on homework. In some ways, it seems as if teachers do not realize that most of their students participate in other activities outside of
school and that in some cases they are dedicated to these activities more than they are their homework. There is one school, Rocky River High School,
in North Carolina that believes that the pressure of school and the homework that comes with it can be detrimental to some students. Out of the 162
students surveyed at Rocky River High School 148 of these students participate in activities outside of school and over 50% of these students

Benefit Of Homework
Homework is often seen as a useful study tool, however it can cause more problems than solve them. Homework adds to the already harrowing task
of keeping up with grades, you have to worry about completing classwork as well as studying for upcoming tests or projects for six classes, even
seven, if you have a 0 period. Homework adds stress, prevents students from pursuing their interests, can cause them not to give their full attention
to everything they should, makes keeping up with a social life and having the interactions humans need impossible, all of which can add up to
depression (which is something many teens are already prone to). We go to school seven hours a day, sit in classrooms, listening and doing work
and often times worrying about everything we have to do after. Seven hours is a lot to do everything, but especially paper work and research, so
having to go home and have two to four more hours of that to look forward to... Is not particularly comforting. All this extra work is usually chalked
up to be something that will help a student learn the topic, but if teachers are doing their jobs to get the important points across and time is being used
well in class, than it should not be necessary. In an absence of homework students can instead spend the time usually wasted on often rushed, under
quality work, studying the way that best suits them, or participating in an activity that will ease their stress from the long tiring days of school. I'm just

Definition of homework: Tasks assigned to students by school teachers that are intended to be carried out during non–school hours. Why do we have
homework? What are the benefits of homework? Is there such thing as too much homework? Homework helps you to gain, and retain more knowledge
than would be possible with only classroom work, this is a huge reason students get homework. Homework does actually have benefits, it teaches a
host of important life skills, from responsibility and time management in prioritizing and organizing. But, how much is too much homework? That

That depends on multiple complex or elaborate factors, including the singular intelligence or capability of the child, type of classes, and available time.
I'm afraid some people after a certain amount of time doing homework, they begin to shut down. However, there have been studies that show how
outside of school learning improves in–class learning, and I agree with that. Without homework, I'd forget part of what we learned the previous day
the minute my head hit the pillow. But, if you must skip a simple 90 minutes of soccer practice because homework is taking two hours longer than you
thought, there's a problem. If you do have a lot of homework at a time, it helps to be organized. Prioritizing can help you to complete your homework
assignments with minimal stress. "A poll conducted for the Associated Press earlier this year found that about 57 percent of parents felt their child was
assigned about the right amount of homework. Another 23 percent thought it was too little, 19 percent thought it was too much." K–2 works on
homework for about 10–20 minutes a night. 3–6 graders have about 30–60 minutes a night usually. When you get into junior high you'll have about 90
minutes. Students who are in college have around 90–150 minutes a night! Do you now understand why we students have homework? What are the

More than 56% of high school students in the United States said that homework was their primary cause of stress (Strauss 2). Even though teachers
and parents are seeing the negative effects of unreasonable amounts of homework, it is still being practiced. Excessive amounts of homework causes
stress levels to increase, creates issues with health and sleep for high school students, and has a negative effects on family time and parents; therefore
teachers should limit homework to only two hours or less per night for highschool students.
The idea of the right amount of homework has been controversial throughout the 1900s to present time, and those such as educators, psychologists, and
parents disagree what is best for students. Homework has been a common practice since the mid – 19th century (Katz et al. 1).
Since that time, homework has advanced due to cultural changes. This issue has been debated for decades and many scientists are saying that
homework has increased drastically (Reily 3–4). Many doctors and psychologists have been studying the relationship between stress and homework
for over 50 years (Katz et al. 2). Through this research, doctors and educators have been able to receive some insight on the issue of excessive
homework. While the topic of homework is very controversial, there has still been evidence discovered that states it can lead to stress in high school
and younger students.

Have you ever heard a the bell go off signaling the end of the school day and you just want to get home and relax, but you remember you have a ton
of homework to do? This constantly happens to me all the time. A lot times I get homework from multiple classes all in one day. Often after school I
have sports which already takes up enough time. Usually I get my assignments turned in on time, but to the expense of spending time with friends or
family. Sometimes when I get home and start doing my homework I might struggle with the topic and there isn't a teacher there to help me, so I'm left
trying to search for websites that might help me or ask my parents to help. Having homework on a daily basis is causing problems for me, and I
think incorporating time in the school day can really help in solving this issue. There are many causes to this problem. First of all many teacher
feel that they need to give homework to see if a student understands the lesson they are on. I understand why teachers give homework for this
reason however there are many other ways of tracking a students understanding of a lesson like giving daily warm up questions at the beginning of
class. Another reason for homework is there isn't enough dedicated time to do work at school. Teachers use homework to use for students grades.
There are many reasons for students receiving homework, but receiving little to no homework could really be beneficial to students. Getting large
amount of homework has negatively affected me in many ways. In "Is to Much Homework Bad For Kid's Health?" By Sandra Levy, it states
"communities who spend too much time on homework experience more stress, physical health problems, a lack of balance in their lives, and
alienation from society." I find that homework causes me a lot of stress. Many days I find myself up late at night trying to complete homework, and
this causes a lot of stress. The next day when I go to school I'm tired and get even more stressed. When I spend time doing homework outside of
school I spend less with family and friends. I often have trouble with balancing homework, time with family, and athletics. To succeed in the future you
need to learn the skill of balancing things, but it's hard to learn it

Homework Is Too Much Homework
The debate regarding exactly how much homework is too much homework has been an ongoing debate for years. As of right now, there seems to be no
end in sight for this debate. Various adults believe that if children do not obtain homework, then they are not learning properly. However, numerous
children are obtaining a substantial amount of homework per night, as well as per each class. Once a child exceeds a certain amount of homework, then
it is no longer beneficial for the child's education. An excessive amount of homework can essentially become harmful to the child's education. As a
result, teachers are struggling with finding the right amount of homework to assign to students. The National Education Association as well as the
National Parent–Teacher Association endorse the "10–minute rule" for teachers to follow when assigning homework to students. If a child is assigned
an excessive amount of homework, then the child might experience more harm than good when attempting to complete the assigned homework. The
National Education Association as well as the National Parent–Teacher Association strongly advocate for the "10–minute rule" when it comes to the
amount of homework that a child should be assigned. The 10–minute rule is a guideline for teachers when assigning homework to students. When
following the 10–minute rule, teachers should assign ten minutes of homework per grade level of the student for each night. Therefore, first graders

Has a teacher ever come to the thought about their students and realize that the students have stuff to do at home. Most students don't have any free
time because they are usually busy and doing their own stuff. Kids still have to do chores at home as well as spend time with their family. There are
kids that dont even have time for their family because they're always so involved in doing their homework. Some teachers give out homework everyday
and even on weekend which is too much to handle. Kids should not have homework sometimes so that they can have free time and enjoy being kidd. I
believe that teachers should realize that students go to school for about 7 hours or more. There are kids that have to stay after school to make up work
and tests. Kids should live their life happy not stressing out because they have too much homework. Students akso stress out because they did not
finish their homework in time .Stress is a common sign that can lead to sickness and a feeling overwhelmness. Spending time with family should be
very important to everyone. Many kids have a lot of stuff going through their mind and homework should not be the most stressful part of their life.
Homework does not really help you get better, well maybe it helps for some students but for most students it does not. Teachers believe that if you

homework everyday and spending hours on it does not gives time for students to study for their test.Test are very important for students grades and
therefore students test score are low because they spend hours doing their homework. Having too much homework does not give students enough time
for them to study and focus on their test. Theres times that student go home and try to do their homework and still don't understand any of it. Teachers

Homework Is Too Much Homework
Starting in Preschool, students experience the responsibility of completing homework. Whether a student is memorizing the alphabet, completing
multiplication worksheets, writing poems and essays, or completing pre–calculus problems, homework consumes much of their time. As time progress
homework is becoming more of a burden to students. As children become older and life becomes more hectic, they cannot find enough hours in a day
to correctly and fully complete their homework. Because of this, students can possibly fall behind in school and homework quickly becomes useless.
Students of all ages are assigned too much homework. Homework consumes too much of a student's like and leaves no time for the more important
aspects of life. In the article Too Much Homework written by Professor Carol Huntsinger, which gives insights from a book called The End of
Homework: How Homework Disrupts Families, Overburdens Children and Limits Learning , written by Etta Kralovec and John Buell, explains that a
student's busy schedule along with immense amounts of homework takes away from the most important parts of life. In this article, Huntsinger
explains how a student named Josh Preston has a full high school course load, attends meetings, participates in school activities, and also attends three
hour swim practices in the evening. Huntsinger then goes on to explain that after coming home from practice at 7:30 p.m., Preston has to do almost

Students, parents, teachers, administrators and other interested parties all seem to have strong and different feelings towards homework. Students
complain that they have too much homework to complete outside of the hours they already attended classes. Students feel that they have personal lives
to live and blow off homework while some parents and teachers believe that homework is the key to passing classes and preparation for college.
This leads to teachers feeling pressured to push their students to succeed and this can easily get carried away. Parents and school systems still often
discuss the topic of homework today. Should homework in school systems be stopped? The general arguments given by teachers and some parents
are that homework increases the overall grade averages, sharpens study habits, and helps students become more prepared for college work. Along with
that, it helps students learn responsibility for life in the work field of the real work. Although these arguments are valid, there are arguments against
homework as well. Homework causes students to be stressed out when there is too much to be done by a certain deadline and takes away the free time
of students. Some of the work that students are assigned isn't relevant to what they are studying. Worst of all, it causes that struggling student to lose

people can not come to an agreement on. Students, teachers, and parents continually go back and forth everyday regarding the type of and amount of

continuously used by schools because of the potential benefits it can offer students. Most of the time when people talk about benefits of homework
they talk about academic benefits, however there is also nonacademic benefits. When students are given homework students must take it upon
themselves to make sure they complete it. Through this they learn an important tool that is necessary in life, time management. Cooper emphasizes
that homework can also lead to students improving their self–direction, self–discipline, and self–organization. When students take it upon themselves
to get their work done they improve their independent problem solving skills, which can help them both in school settings and out in the world.
Homework helps build students' characters as well as improve their academic skills. Homework might appear to be beneficial when studies show
students who do homework do better academically, however, there is a point at which homework has a negative effect on students. "The purpose of
homework is to reinforce the learning that takes place in school or prepare children for forthcoming lessons, which in theory, sounds ideal. But, research

When the twentieth century began, the mind was viewed as a muscle that could be strengthened through mental exercise. Since this exercise could be
done at home, homework was viewed favorably. During the 1940s, the emphasis in education shifted from drills to problem solving. Currently,
homework is required by all that leads to academic success. Required. That word seems to scare many and stress all. There is nothing worse than
watching a child struggle to accomplish a task that is required for completion. Stress will overcome them, and the depression overwhelms their body,
causing them to stop trying. When students are assigned hours worth of homework and projects every night, it would be absurd for anyone to not
notice some form of stress. It is difficult to help students who have this problem. They feel as though giving up is all they can do and accept the bad
grade. Furthermore, there is a limit on everything; however, homework is breaking through those limits. Homework for elementary school students is
higher than ever. Teachers should be teaching children to have a balance of play and school, but it is becoming harder to balance this because of all of
this schoolwork. Even for the people participating in sports, it is hard to have that balance of school, work, sports, and family. Learning what benefits a

The Benefits Of Less Homework
"More than 70% of students said they were often or always stressed over homework" (Stanford Research). Many students are experiencing stress
because of homework. When teachers give out excessive amounts of homework it causes students to be stressed, reduces the amount of free time they
have, and it makes their practice less effective. Students receive many homework assignments from multiple teachers everyday. The amount of
homework students receive should be reduced, because it will reduce stress, give the students free time, and help them to have more effective practice.
Excessive amounts of homework puts stress on students, and can lead to health issues. When homework is loaded onto a student every night in each
class, they can become quite overwhelmed. When students have anxiety and stress, their schoolwork is affected negatively. "Stress causes lack of
sleep, slipping grades, fatigue, unhealthy eating habits, and many more factors" ("Should Students Get Less Homework"). Approximately 80% of
students don't get the recommended amount of sleep each night. According to a 2006 poll, "At least 28% of students fall asleep in class, and around
22% fall asleep while doing homework" ("Should Students Get Less Homework"). Some students talked about being so overwhelmed with all of the

The Effects of Homework on Education
Introduction
The debate over homework has become a controversial one throughout the years. Most of the general population is on the uprise to stop homework,
while education providers try to endure its existence. While the general population see homework as a burden and unnecessary, the real idea of
homework creates an obvious path of success. Part of that path to success is do to the instructors use of homework in the correct manner. While the
other path, is the completion and practice a student puts forth for the understanding of the topic at hand. We create the sense of, why homework?
Previous research has helped show a usefulness of homework throughout our education system (e.g. Kenny, 2013; Marzano, 2007; Jorgenson, 2013;
Griffith, 2013; Dejka, 2014). While research has been conducted, there is never one concise choice that everyone can agree with. That is why the topic
of homework is of such high debate. The idea of homework, though, gives us the opportunity to expand our learning and preparing us for what lies
ahead.
Background When thinking of homework, we think of the standard definition, "schoolwork that student is required to do at home." Homework being
bad is associated in every student's mind. Our thinking involves that the teacher is just giving us busy work. In truth, the first definition is vague
compared to the true meaning of the term. A more concise description of homework includes, "work or study done in preparation for a certain event or
situation."

Eassy On Homework
Homework was an essential feature of my own life whilst growing up. If memory serves me correct, the practice was always considered important
and was enforced throughout grade school by both my teachers and parents. I remember coming home from school in second grade and completing a
thick booklet of blank, squared pages that required me to print my numbers out from 1–1000. I sat at the kitchen table to complete it, with all seven of
my family members conversing around me, as I was a child that lacked an adequate place to study. Envy invaded my mind as my brothers and sisters
played joyfully around me, making it difficult to remain concentrated; nevertheless, I was forced to sit at the table until the booklet was completed.
Instances such as the one previously mentioned were a regular occurrence in my youth and negatively impacted my playtime, although my brothers and
sisters eventually joined me at the table to complete their own homework.
Completing homework was a necessity in my household, and failing to do so would result in harsh consequences. One particular instance of an
incomplete homework assignment stands out prominently in my memory. As I got older, my interests grew, but the amount of homework that I was
required to accomplish gradually increased as well. During my upper–level elementary years, I was absolutely obsessed with the Harry Potter series by
J.K. Rowling. In the final month of sixth grade I was assigned a year–end project to complete for English Language Arts. Unfortunately, the
assignment became a conflict of interest for me owing to the fact that the weekend that it was assigned was also the weekend in which I would be
acquiring the new Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix book at the pre–release event at midnight.
While at the bookstore with my mother, jumping with excitement might I add, she asked me if I had any homework to complete over the weekend
and explained to me that if I did, the book would have to wait until summer vacation arrived before I could begin reading it. Upon receiving this
information, I lied to my mother and told her that our teacher did not give any homework during the last week of school because I did not want the
book withheld from me until doing so. The

The Negative Effects Of Homework
Homework can either be used for resourceful studying tool or can be a waste time for some students and others don't even attempt to try it, but can
getting too much homework be stressful causing some to have mental breakdowns or something even worse ? Going to Palm Desert High School for
the past two years, I have experienced first hand that there is so much homework given out causing so much stress and lack of sleep. Students are
receiving too many extra assignments start to take a toll on the their life. As a student who plays three sports for two hours for five hours a day or
on game days where I go home at eight o'clock it is difficult to shower and change then do my homework. I'm not saying that a student athlete
should be pampered because they play sports, but every student should be given less altogether. As teachers excessive amounts of homework there is
limited time to finish work for another class or study for another class. Whenever students actually do the unnecessary work and turn it in, it doesn't
always get graded and it just causes stress on top of stress. Students are already not getting enough sleep with all six classes that they have. Yet
homework is great for students it is very helpful for students for their classes, but at the same time they have so much excessive work that they have
to finish it in such little time. CNN conducted a study last year that the impact of excessive homework on high schoolers included high stress levels, a

The Vital Importance of Homework
Every prosperous person has attained their goals via this privileged activity which has been practised for generations. Homework is beneficial for
children of all ages; to learn new strategies and theories. All schools give homework to enrich their students' learning and to prepare them for their soon
to be successful futures. Vehemently, homework is an essential requirement for children, adolescents or even adults! Generally speaking, according
to research (Cooper, Robinson & Patall, 2006), studies are showing us that academic achievement is improved in children who partake in some after
school work at home. Homework familiarises new concepts and encourages students to strive for their highest. It gives them a sense of responsibility
as they need to organise their time to fit all activities. In that way homework would only be a minor, every day routine. If students want to have a
privileged lifestyle, they need to do their homework. Having helpful homework here, is the key to victory, inviting us through a door to various
opportunities in life! "The journey of a thousand miles begins with one step."
Essentially, homework is a beneficial component of life. Without it, there wouldn't be any jobs around as we wouldn't be intelligent enough to pass
the exams and courses needed to fill positions. Some people may be innately gifted, but the aces who are hungry to succeed, will excel higher.

Homework Is Too Much Homework
Now I don't want to get off on a rant here, but school is giving us way too much homework and projects. We have only been in school for two
months and we have had at least two projects for every core class except math, and a final 8th grade project.
Everyday we wake up, go to school, and come home, easy right? No, everyday that we come home from school we have homework. Each class gives
us at least 30 minutes worth of homework. 6 classes a day times 30 minutes is 180 minutes, which is 3 hours. We also need at least 1 hour for dinner and
breaks in between.
I go to school for about 7 hours (7 hours and 15 minutes to be exact) and when we get home, they expect us to spend at least another three hours
practicing what we learned in school. Also, on nights that we have projects, that adds an extra two hours. My brain feels like it's older than my grandma!
Also, not to brag, but I'm a pretty smart student, and teachers think that just because we are smart, we should get more work than everybody else. In
honors math, we have to get more class work done in a shorter period of time, and more homework than everybody else. We tend towant to get good
grades in every class, average grades are not enough for us. We have to, and I mean have to, get at least a 6 and if not higher, if we get a grade
lower than that we are not satisfied and unhappy. To get that higher grade on homework and projects, we spend more time than an average person
would, so giving us more work is very time

Persuasive Essay Homework
Imagine if you had three pages of homework in five of your classes, practice, a job, or any other extracurricular activity after school with no time to
do your homework at home. Adding a study skill at East Jordan Middle High School will provide students time to do their homework and allow them
to get help from a teacher. Without time to do theirhomework at school, most students just won't do it. Therefore, EJMHS must provide every student
with study skills, in order to allow students to catch up on their grades, manage their time, and relieve their stress from homework.
To begin, having study skills will provide more time at home for students. Having too much homework creates a barrier between students and their
parents. From personal experience, most students tend to do their homework in their room, usually not getting it done. If students are pushed to do
their work, then they will be more likely to do their homework and finish it. I'm Success, there will be a teacher pushing students to do their
homework. Having more time at home will allow students to bond with their family and not worry about getting their homework done. Thus, they
would be closer to their family and be able to enjoy family time.
Next, study skills must be on every student's schedule to allow students to maintain good grades. study skills will allow students with low grades or
missing assignments to catch up and turn their assignments in and raise their grades. Having a class where students can get

Homework Persuasive Essay
When in a large room full of people talking away, we tend to pay more attention to the voices easiest to hear; the loudest ones. The debate over
homework is one taking place in this metaphorical room. There are many, many people talking, but the loudest voices are easiest to hear. Currently
those voices are saying that we should get rid of all homework for young students. But are those loud voices right? The more soft–spoken, expert
voices are telling us the opposite. Homework teaches excellent study skills and is extremely beneficial to students, therefore it should be mandatory
from a young age to help them to become high achievers. Homework helps kids to learn to work hard; they can get used to it early on. The cliche
'practice makes perfect' is ever applicable, and experts have come up with a rule for how much homework children should be given.
"A report on the Indus Valley Civilization" "[Parts of] this algebra worksheet. We never even talked about it in class!" "...geometry proofs. We just
copied off each other 5 minutes before class" (The Onion). It is no wonder schools are starting to get rids of homework. Assignments like these are
tedious for students, parents, and teachers alike. They do not help students to elevate their learning– it is just busywork. But is getting rid of homework
actually the answer? Some think that it is better for kids to leave the learning at school, and some schools are implementing those ideas. But in reality,
homework can actually help,

The Benefits Of Homework
Cooper defines homework as "task assigned to students by school teachers that are meant to be carried out during non–school hour."(Cooper 2015)
However, is it effective enough to justify its extension of the six hours of school students experience each weekday? As Bennett explains in "Must
Won't Do It!", "Much attention is placed on helping students develop as complex and creative thinkers, yet many classrooms continue to use learning
structures without examining their effectiveness. This is often the case with homework. Research findings on the effectiveness of homework are mixed,
and few studies have examined students' and educators' perspectives on the benefits of homework as a learning structure" (Bennet). Our current
structure of homework may be achieving the opposite of what it needs to do.
More than any other aspect of education, homework has been the cause of more friction between schools and home and becomes the prime battlefield
when schools, families, and communities view one another as adversaries. Recent homework debates in this country have centered on questions of how
much homework at which grades produce what kinds of learning gains. A recent analysis of homework research by the Center for Public Education
(2007) found that homework at the elementary level is counterproductive, while homework in middle and high school shows some correlation with
small increases in test scores. But those findings do not hold across the board. Homework may have

Persuasive Speech On Homework
Being a kid is not easy, trying to juggle sports, school, and a social life is stressful and time consuming. We have lives outside of the classroom and
keeping track of our work is very difficult, but there are ways to help keep the two balanced. Here are some helpful ways to keep your school life
managed and still have a productive lifestyle. I've been in school for a little while now and one of the things I dreaded the most was the teacher saying
"Yourhomework for tonight is..."Hearing those words just ruined my mood. However, homework may not be the most enjoyable thing in the
world it is important. It's 10% of your grade but also allows to practice more on what you're learning. Once you get home, homework should be the
first thing on your mind so you can just get it out of the way. When working on homework you should definitely turn off all electronic devices so it
won't get in the way of you focusing. Another thing that could be distracting is family. As much fun as family might be, having someone there
when you're trying to do classwork could get you really off topic. I have a cousin who I definitely adore and we are super close but once we get to
talking there is just no stopping us. Keeping a distance from them will keep you on task and you will also get your work done faster. Once that is
out of the way you can have all the time to socialize. Ever been so stressed out about a test before? Well guess what, you're not alone. Test and
exams are so stressful and sometimes they could either make or break your grade. Having that kind of pressure put on you doesn't feel good but there
are ways you can prep and not be so freaked out. A key thing that goes along with studying is the same with homework, turn off all devices that have
nothing to do with school. For instances phones, with all this new social media coming out all you want do is snapchat friends and see what they are
doing. That'll distract you from studying. Besides devices being shut down, having something calm and relaxing playing can help the brain focus more
and do better. Playing classical music or maybe sounds of nature will be soothing. I know when I study it could feel like I've been studying forever
and nothing is

Negative Effects Of Homework
As a high schooler, you get lots of homework which can easily cause you stress, but others like parents have another understanding of homework
because they think it gives their children something to do besides sitting and watching the television. Also teachers tend to give out homework for the
benefit of your learning skills or just of what you learned on that school day in general, which isn't always helpful. The harsh thing parents and teachers
don't realize is the agonizing pain and life consuming of having large amounts of homework which causes us to have negative consequences.
Heavy loads of homework can be shown more as harmful than good, not only for students but also for their families. As shown in Source B it says,
"It is the primary arena in which children, parents and schools interact on a daily basis" (Gill and Schossman). Which I can totally disagree with
from my experience, stating that every time I come from school to home, I always have to go straight to my room, turn my computer on, and
either work on essays or have to search up problems for my algebra assignments, or just information for any class in general, which takes up a
whole day of my life. Another reason is it is very time consuming! These homeworks are always getting in my way of either having activities after
school or just time to spend with my family, which I hardly ever have a chance to do because of all the work I have, and might I also state that my
mom is always worrying about my health since I usually don't have time to eat too, also she is always asking me if I have time to read the bible
with my siblings and father, which I automatically have to state I can't because again of all this work. Another statement I have is how homework is
mainly useless to our education, grabbing information from Source F, "Kids who wouldn't dream of cheating on a test or copying a research paper
think nothing of copying homework" (Chaika). Since doing homework is just such a waste for us we usually just copy it either from other people or
from the internet, and since math class usually just gives a packet about what is going to be on the quiz, we end up using that to study which ends up
being more helpful for the upcoming test rather than doing

Cause Of Homework
Is homework more trouble than it is worth? Many students would say it is. Often times, students will work on homework for several hours a day and
produce no results. Whether it is in tests, quizzes, or real life situations, improvement does not always show in the results. In fact, homework can cause
many different problems. Teachers should stop assigninghomework so students will not feel as stressed about school, will have more time to do
activities, will have less strain in their relationships, and will not have the negative effects that homework brings.
Having too much homework causes students large amounts of stress and lack of sleep that can cause health problems. On a survey that Stanford
researchers tested on 4317 students, fifty–six percent of the students considered homework a primary source of stress, forty–three percent of the
students viewed tests as a primary stressor, thirty–three percent put pressure to get good grades in that category (Parker). Less than one percent of the
students said that homework was not a stressor (Parker). That means that about 4273 students considered homeword a stressor, while less than 50 out
of 4317 students believed homework to not be a stressor. Out of the students surveyed, the average amount of homework was three hours and six
minutes of homework (Greicius). The large amount of homework causes large amounts of stress, but it also causes sleep deprivation and other health
problems such as headaches, exhaustion, sleep deprivation,

Why Do We Get Homework
In a recent survey, 83% of students reported that they copy other's homework. Students should not be required to do homework because it should be
taught in class. Most students don't get a lot of sleep due to amount hours they are spending doing homework. There is a lot of stress when students are
doing their homework and there isn't anyone that is able to help with questions that might arise, also not to mention the how frustrated you feel when
you are searching the internet for help or clarification and you right where you began. There are few teachers that are available after hours to help and
guide students, but that isn't common practice with most teachers. Last but not least is the fact that more than half of students have extracurricular
activities. Homework makes kids stressed, grumpy and they can't hang out with family or friends, and they don't get the sleep they need.
It's a fact that students don't get enough sleep. In the article Sleep Schedules and Daytime Functioning in Adolescents the authors Amy R. Wolfson
and Mary A. Carskadon conveyed that students with lower grade get less sleep."The sleep loss was due to increasingly later bedtimes, whereas rise
times were more consistent across ages.(1)" Most students try very hard to get good grade and are struggling a lot. This is due to many factors put
one's sleep loss. When the students are running on empty they can't do a lot of the mind based activities. The reason for that is they are

Schools should not give any homework to kids in elementary school. First, homework makes kids not get enough sleep and energy that they need
for the next day. Especially because they probably have more school work the next day for them to do. Next, kids don't get enough family time after
school or even on weekends which is not good because kids need family time once in awhile because it normally keeps kids going when they can have
fun with their families. Also, homework can cause mental issues which can be bad for their health. Like depression or even just give kids bad thoughts
of doing bad things. Additionally, a lot of other people also agree with me about the no homework policy because of these reasons.
One reason we shouldn't have homework is because kids don't get enough sleep for the next day. "We really want the kids to go home at 4 o'clock,
tired. We want their brain to be tired," Kelly Elementary School Principal Jackie Glasheen Said in an interview with a local TV station." Said
time.com. First, Kids are already tired from school when they get home. But, with homework, they get tired faster and then don't even get enough sleep
for the next day. Like the principal said they think that making kids tired is learning, but it doesn't really mean we're learning more, it is just wearing
us out and making us not want to work any longer."Brandy Young told parents, she would not formally assign any homework this year, asking students

Student athletes and students in general have been loaded down with homework for the past couple of years. It has caused major stress and drowsiness
that leads to failing grades. Because the homework is overwhelming, most students cannot keep up and fall under the heavy load. Many students have
tried telling their teachers about their busy schedules, but most say there is no excuse. Although many believe in the importance of homework, too much
causes exhaustion, stress, and a decrease in a student athletes performance which can ultimately prevent them from receiving scholarships needed to
pursue their career. Most students are involved in some kind of extracurricular activity that takes up around three to four hours of their day. In fact, at
least 62.9% of students in one classroom alone play some type of sports. This means that over half of the people in one classroom will not end up
getting home until eight or nine at night. Then add in another three hours of homework along with two hours to eat, take a shower, and spend time
with family, and students will not go to sleep until around twelve or one in the morning. The Nationwide Children's Hospital researched the number of
hours a typical teenager should get and found, ВЁAdolescents are notorious for not getting enough sleep. The average amount of sleep that teenagers
get is between 7 and 7 Вј hours. However, they need between 9 and 9 ВЅ hours (studies show that most teenagers need exactly 9 Вј hours of sleep).ВЁ

Is Homework Harmful Or Helpful?
Odera
Is Homework harmful or helpful?. Homework is defined as an out of class task assigned to students to help them practice and prepare for their future.
Homework has been around for a very long time. It is set and traced as a tradition of having teachers assigning work and students working on it.
Parents demand that teachers require it and teachers verbally express that parents demand more of it. teachers assign homework to avail some students
ameliorate their grade and pass the course for those of who do not do well on tests or standardized examinations. Can homework be considered auxiliary
or inimical to students? This controversy turns into arguments and discrepancies. For me, homework thoroughly can avail students in study because
there are many benefits we can get from doing homework.Homework helps students understand the topic or subject , develop good skills for the class
and prepare for examinations in the class. Homework helps with time management , homework helps students to plan their lives and schedule time for
their task. First of all, homework builds up an initiative in students. They initiate study. Teachers get the schoolwork done from students whereas
students initiate doing homework. There is a sense of responsibility associated with consummating their homework. Children feel responsible for
finishing homework and accomplished when they do it. They commence allotting their time to study and play thus learning to consummate their

Why Homework Is Homework
There are many students who realize that it is important to get good grades. But those students are also stressed, exhausted, and frustrated. How
would you feel if you had to study for more than three hours a day just to earn a good grade? If you're a student, you probably fall into the category of
those who do not have time to do things other than school. You may also feel as thoughhomework doesn't actually do anything. Most students get so
busy with activities outside of school and just simply do not have time to do homework or study for a test for 5 hours. So ask yourself, is all of this
necessary? Or can all of this unnecessary stress be avoided?
Of course, nobody truly knows if homework is actually effective or not. It may be stressing student out for no good reason. Many students said they
often do homework they see as "pointless" or "mindless" in order to keep their grades up. Homework should have a purpose and a benefit. It should
be designed to actually teach kids instead of stress them out. It would be one thing to have as much homework that is assigned if students actually
learned or benefited from it, but it doesn't do anything besides worry them.
In addition, most kids do not have hardly any time to do anything other than school related things. All because society tells them that they should keep

The Importance Of Homework Essay
Why homework is beneficial and can be harmful
These days, there are strong views from parents whether homework is good and those who believe homework is not so good for their kids.
Data from a 2006 meta–analysis by Duke University psychology professor Harris Cooper shows a positive correlation between homework and student
achievement, meaning that students who studied more and did their homework academically achieved better results than those who didn't.
The relationship between homework and performance was stronger for older year groups (Year 7 – Year 12). Personally, I believe this is because the
information taught in the higher year's content is more advanced so the people who don't do their homework get low or passable grades and the
students who do their work achieve greater. More understanding of the topics are required and to absorb the masses of information that the students get,
they must work harder and do more work.
Cooper's analysis focused mainly on how homework impacted academic achievement – test scores, for example. His report also noted that homework is
also considered to assist and improve study habits, attitudes toward school, inquisitiveness, self–discipline and independent problem solving skills.
As a student, I believe that homework and studying is a very advantageous process that definitely can benefit and improve a students' grades, shape their
attitudes towards work and help them overcome future problems by attacking them head on.

Negative Effects Of Homework
Lastly, homework results in a combination of corresponding negative physical and mental effects within students. In the survey conducted on high
schoolers in California, 56% of participants admitted homework as their primary stressor, while less than 1% said homework was not a stressor
(Strauss). Regarding physical symptoms, 72% of students disclosed their constant state of anxiety over school work, resulting in sleep deprivation,
headaches, exhaustion, weight loss, stomach pain, and the lack of stability in their lives (Strauss). Over 80% of the students encountered a physical
symptom in the timespan of a month, 44% of whom experienced three or more in that time period (Strauss). In addition to this, parents argued their
children do not have enough time to complete chores, a skill that also trains a sense of responsibility within adolescents (Ponte). Furthermore,
homework limits a child's development of social skills, as it leaves them with little time to interact with friends (Ponte). In addition to the shortage of
social interactions among friends, adolescents have limited time to converse with their family members as well. For example, junior Julia Jones was
assigned a group project over Winter Break, a time specifically created for a vacation from school (Ponte). As expected, both of Julia's partners were
on vacation–one of which being out of country (Ponte). Julia experienced high levels of stress as she and her group members reached to finish the

Argumentative Essay On Homework

  • 1. Argumentative Essay On Homework Late nights, eyes only kept open by ungodly amounts of coffee, and never ending piles of paper: these are all symptoms of the nation–sweeping homework epidemic. Students are assigned hours upon hours of after school homework every day – but is it really necessary? Oftentimes, homework causes more harm than good on the mental, physical, and social health of students; therefore, after school assignments should be limited to the four core classes, minimizing those loads as much as possible, because more homework does not necessarily lead to highly successful students, immense amounts of stress are put on students every day, and an eight hour school day should be enough to disseminate the information needed. While some teachers believe that nightly homework is imperative to student achievement, data shows that homework at any level, from grade school to high school, does not equal success. Many East Asian countries, including Hong Kong, Taiwan, and Japan had lower average rates of homework, yet ranked very highly in math. While math homework is usually intended to practice the material learned in class that day, excessive repetition of the same equations will not make the information stick any more than a few practice problems. As stated by Ty Conner, "...children... are learning this material in order to complete their homework, which is in turn preparing them for a test, and after that test, the information... isn't reviewed afterwards". Additionally, high homework rates are ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 2. Persuasive Essay Homework In one study, 82% of students said they experienced feelings of depression and hopelessness in the last month caused by stress over homework (Connor et al. 30). Every day, students get more and more homework, but research suggests that students may be getting more than what is recommended (Levy 4). In addition, homework has been required to help enhance a student's learning. Research shows that it helps with developing self–regulation skills and creating positive academic attitudes, but now they are finding that homework and academic scores do not relate to each other as well (Katz et al. 406). Excessive homework has been found to negatively affect high school students by causing stress and anxiety, therefore, teachers should reduce the amount of homework by doing more of the work in class. For the longest time, homework has been perceived as being beneficial to students. Harris Cooper, a psychology professor, found that when students did homework, they performed better in school (Reilly 2). He also researched how homework affects a student's score, noting "that homework is also thought to improve study habits, attitudes toward school, self–discipline, inquisitiveness and independent problem solving skills" (2–3). When students develop these skills early, they will then be prepared for when they go to college or get a full time job. It is argued that doing a small amount of homework can be useful to children, but they should not be doing over the amount that is recommended ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Homework Is No Homework In recent years, the argument over assigning students tremendous amounts of homework each night continues to grow. In a few districts scattered across the country, superintendents refuse to allow teachers to assign homework to children. The superintendent of Marion County Public Schools in Florida recently assigned a "no homework" policy for the current school year, joining districts in Massachusetts and Vermont. Most parents and students across the country admired the district's decision and hoped their own school system would follow suit. A study from Duke University in 2006 showed that assigning homework did improve academic performance, but an excessive amount could hurt student's mentality. The famous saying "practice makes perfect" does prove to help people achieve their goals. The more one practices something, the easier it will come to them. Teachers assign homework to give students more opportunities to practice what they have learned in class. In that case, some homework should be assigned, but on the other hand, too much homework becomes unhelpful to the student. For instance, if a math teacher starts on a new section, practice problems will help the student prepare for the next class. Except, assigning thirty questions of the same type of problem becomes too monotonous. A math teacher should only assign ten problems at the maximum. At that point, the teacher should answer any question a student might have the following day. Teachers tell students that the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Essay On Homework A high schooler comes home from school. He gets out his homework and gets started. The mom of the student said start your homework and then we will eat.The mom spends an hour at dinner, but the student is not done with his homework. He is asking his dad all types of questions, but he is too busy to help. That happens every day at this family home. When the boy got his test scores back later in the year, they were so low. Students have busy lifestyles and stress at home. They need time away from studies to appreciate what they learn. There are so many things that can help them prepare for life outside of school and giving a lot of homework causes stress to the student and family. I wanted to find a way to get schools to cut down on homework. Too many kids are doing badly on a test because of the time constraints and stress to complete homework. So let's do something about it. When I was researching, I asked myself "How can I get schools to cut down on homework?"After all the research that I did, it was clear to me that we can help the kids in school to have less homework. Statistics about too much homework are illuminating: too much homework can lead to being counterproductive. After a school day, kids come home and do their homework that can cause stress to a family that has other needs or issues, such as low income. Too much homework can have a negative effect because they might be from a home that doesn't have everything they need. They might not have parents or older siblings ... • 5. Homework Should Not Have Homework Schools should not give any homework. First, homework makes kids not get enough sleep and energy for the next day. Next, Kids don't get enough family time after school or even on weekends. Also, homework can cause mental issues which can be bad for their health. Additionally, a lot of other people also agree with me about the no homework policy. One reason we shouldn't have homework is because kids don't get enough sleep for the next day. "We really want the kids to go home at 4 o'clock, tired. We want their brain to be tired," Kelly ElementarySchool Principal Jackie Glasheen Said in an interview with a local TV station." Said time.com. First, Kids are already tired from school when they get home. But, with homework, they get tired faster and then don't even get enough sleep for the next day. Like the principal said they think that making kids tired is learning, but it doesn't really mean we're learning more, it is just wearing us out and making us not want to work any longer."Brandy Young told parents, she would not formally assign any homework this year, asking students instead to eat dinner with their families, play outside and go to bed early."Is what the article time.com explained. Consequently, homework makes kids not get enough sleep at night because they are up working on their homework half the night or even longer. These kids shouldn't have to do this. According to Katie Reilly, "Second graders, for example, should do about 20 minutes of homework each night, but ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 7. Persuasive Essay Homework Homework: Is it the Best Use of Time "Some experts think that the homework problem is deeply woven into the very fabric of our system of educating children;" a system that does not foster a love of learning, but makes learning a competition between students (Ponte). In modern education, this is a result of a massive push towards better test grades, and higher standardized test scores. In an effort to relieve some of the pressures this creates at school, educators extend the school day by assigning homework. It is a common belief among educators that homework helps creates a student with a disciplined mind that can learn easier (Marzano 74). However, according to Alfie Kohn, "in an attempt to create more learning by doing homework, students may actually be learning less than they are capable of" (qdt. in Ponte). The assignment of homework in education is not beneficial since it does not increase scores, since not all kids have the right support, and since students need time to learn outside of academics. Experts have done a lot of research on homework trying to determine its benefits on scores and long term achievement. On one hand, advocates of homework say that assigning appropriate homework raises test scores of average students by up to 29 percent compared to average students that were not assigned homework (Marzano). Although this may be true, what is appropriate and who gets to determine this? The problem lies with the fact that what is appropriate for one student ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 9. Persuasive Essay On Homework Homework is the schoolwork in which a teacher assigns their students to complete in the after school hours. There are some teachers here in the United States that allot their students several homework assignments to have completed each night. A lot of these teachers assign their students so much homework with the hopes of raising their test scores. However, are these homework assignments actually helping to raise student's test scores or is this a myth? The large portion of homework that teachers are assigning to their students nowadays is not only affecting these students on the social aspect of their lives, but with their extracurricular activities and the amount of sleep they get each evening as well. Therefore, homework should be divided amongst teachers in a way in which they are told which days they are allowed to assign homework and how much they are allotted to give their students on a daily basis. When teachers require their students to complete loads of homework by a certain date this leaves the students with little to no time to participate in after school activities such as: sports, clubs, band, church groups, and several other events. A survey conducted by a researcher from Stanford University indicated that when students spend too much time on their homework they are not reaching the necessary developmental needs or reaching life skills needed for their age group (Parker). When students are so caught up on completing their homework they are more likely to "drop activities, not see friends or family, and not pursue hobbies they enjoy" (Parker). It is not healthy for students to be spending all their time outside of school working on homework. In some ways, it seems as if teachers do not realize that most of their students participate in other activities outside of school and that in some cases they are dedicated to these activities more than they are their homework. There is one school, Rocky River High School, in North Carolina that believes that the pressure of school and the homework that comes with it can be detrimental to some students. Out of the 162 students surveyed at Rocky River High School 148 of these students participate in activities outside of school and over 50% of these students ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 10. Benefit Of Homework Homework is often seen as a useful study tool, however it can cause more problems than solve them. Homework adds to the already harrowing task of keeping up with grades, you have to worry about completing classwork as well as studying for upcoming tests or projects for six classes, even seven, if you have a 0 period. Homework adds stress, prevents students from pursuing their interests, can cause them not to give their full attention to everything they should, makes keeping up with a social life and having the interactions humans need impossible, all of which can add up to depression (which is something many teens are already prone to). We go to school seven hours a day, sit in classrooms, listening and doing work and often times worrying about everything we have to do after. Seven hours is a lot to do everything, but especially paper work and research, so having to go home and have two to four more hours of that to look forward to... Is not particularly comforting. All this extra work is usually chalked up to be something that will help a student learn the topic, but if teachers are doing their jobs to get the important points across and time is being used well in class, than it should not be necessary. In an absence of homework students can instead spend the time usually wasted on often rushed, under quality work, studying the way that best suits them, or participating in an activity that will ease their stress from the long tiring days of school. • 11. Homework Essay Definition of homework: Tasks assigned to students by school teachers that are intended to be carried out during non–school hours. Why do we have homework? What are the benefits of homework? Is there such thing as too much homework? Homework helps you to gain, and retain more knowledge than would be possible with only classroom work, this is a huge reason students get homework. Homework does actually have benefits, it teaches a host of important life skills, from responsibility and time management in prioritizing and organizing. But, how much is too much homework? That depends on multiple complex or elaborate factors, including the singular intelligence or capability of the child, type of classes, and available time. If you do have a lot ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... That depends on multiple complex or elaborate factors, including the singular intelligence or capability of the child, type of classes, and available time. I'm afraid some people after a certain amount of time doing homework, they begin to shut down. However, there have been studies that show how outside of school learning improves in–class learning, and I agree with that. Without homework, I'd forget part of what we learned the previous day the minute my head hit the pillow. But, if you must skip a simple 90 minutes of soccer practice because homework is taking two hours longer than you thought, there's a problem. If you do have a lot of homework at a time, it helps to be organized. Prioritizing can help you to complete your homework assignments with minimal stress. "A poll conducted for the Associated Press earlier this year found that about 57 percent of parents felt their child was assigned about the right amount of homework. Another 23 percent thought it was too little, 19 percent thought it was too much." K–2 works on homework for about 10–20 minutes a night. 3–6 graders have about 30–60 minutes a night usually. When you get into junior high you'll have about 90 minutes. Students who are in college have around 90–150 minutes a night! Do you now understand why we students have homework? What are the benefits of homework? And if there ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 12. Persuasive Essay On Homework More than 56% of high school students in the United States said that homework was their primary cause of stress (Strauss 2). Even though teachers and parents are seeing the negative effects of unreasonable amounts of homework, it is still being practiced. Excessive amounts of homework causes stress levels to increase, creates issues with health and sleep for high school students, and has a negative effects on family time and parents; therefore teachers should limit homework to only two hours or less per night for highschool students. The idea of the right amount of homework has been controversial throughout the 1900s to present time, and those such as educators, psychologists, and parents disagree what is best for students. Homework has been a common practice since the mid – 19th century (Katz et al. 1). Since that time, homework has advanced due to cultural changes. This issue has been debated for decades and many scientists are saying that homework has increased drastically (Reily 3–4). Many doctors and psychologists have been studying the relationship between stress and homework for over 50 years (Katz et al. 2). Through this research, doctors and educators have been able to receive some insight on the issue of excessive homework. While the topic of homework is very controversial, there has still been evidence discovered that states it can lead to stress in high school and younger students. Stress is the body's way of responding to any kind of demand or pressure. 72% ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 13. Persuasive Essay Homework Have you ever heard a the bell go off signaling the end of the school day and you just want to get home and relax, but you remember you have a ton of homework to do? This constantly happens to me all the time. A lot times I get homework from multiple classes all in one day. Often after school I have sports which already takes up enough time. Usually I get my assignments turned in on time, but to the expense of spending time with friends or family. Sometimes when I get home and start doing my homework I might struggle with the topic and there isn't a teacher there to help me, so I'm left trying to search for websites that might help me or ask my parents to help. Having homework on a daily basis is causing problems for me, and I think incorporating time in the school day can really help in solving this issue. There are many causes to this problem. First of all many teacher feel that they need to give homework to see if a student understands the lesson they are on. I understand why teachers give homework for this reason however there are many other ways of tracking a students understanding of a lesson like giving daily warm up questions at the beginning of class. Another reason for homework is there isn't enough dedicated time to do work at school. Teachers use homework to use for students grades. There are many reasons for students receiving homework, but receiving little to no homework could really be beneficial to students. Getting large amount of homework has negatively affected me in many ways. In "Is to Much Homework Bad For Kid's Health?" By Sandra Levy, it states "communities who spend too much time on homework experience more stress, physical health problems, a lack of balance in their lives, and alienation from society." I find that homework causes me a lot of stress. Many days I find myself up late at night trying to complete homework, and this causes a lot of stress. The next day when I go to school I'm tired and get even more stressed. When I spend time doing homework outside of school I spend less with family and friends. I often have trouble with balancing homework, time with family, and athletics. To succeed in the future you need to learn the skill of balancing things, but it's hard to learn it ... • 14. Homework Is Too Much Homework The debate regarding exactly how much homework is too much homework has been an ongoing debate for years. As of right now, there seems to be no end in sight for this debate. Various adults believe that if children do not obtain homework, then they are not learning properly. However, numerous children are obtaining a substantial amount of homework per night, as well as per each class. Once a child exceeds a certain amount of homework, then it is no longer beneficial for the child's education. An excessive amount of homework can essentially become harmful to the child's education. As a result, teachers are struggling with finding the right amount of homework to assign to students. The National Education Association as well as the National Parent–Teacher Association endorse the "10–minute rule" for teachers to follow when assigning homework to students. If a child is assigned an excessive amount of homework, then the child might experience more harm than good when attempting to complete the assigned homework. The National Education Association as well as the National Parent–Teacher Association strongly advocate for the "10–minute rule" when it comes to the amount of homework that a child should be assigned. The 10–minute rule is a guideline for teachers when assigning homework to students. When following the 10–minute rule, teachers should assign ten minutes of homework per grade level of the student for each night. Therefore, first graders should obtain no more than ten ... • 15. Persuasive Essay Homework Has a teacher ever come to the thought about their students and realize that the students have stuff to do at home. Most students don't have any free time because they are usually busy and doing their own stuff. Kids still have to do chores at home as well as spend time with their family. There are kids that dont even have time for their family because they're always so involved in doing their homework. Some teachers give out homework everyday and even on weekend which is too much to handle. Kids should not have homework sometimes so that they can have free time and enjoy being kidd. I believe that teachers should realize that students go to school for about 7 hours or more. There are kids that have to stay after school to make up work and tests. Kids should live their life happy not stressing out because they have too much homework. Students akso stress out because they did not finish their homework in time .Stress is a common sign that can lead to sickness and a feeling overwhelmness. Spending time with family should be very important to everyone. Many kids have a lot of stuff going through their mind and homework should not be the most stressful part of their life. Homework does not really help you get better, well maybe it helps for some students but for most students it does not. Teachers believe that if you do your homework your grade will improve. Homework may help you a little but it does not because test is a huge part of students grades. Having homework everyday and spending hours on it does not gives time for students to study for their test.Test are very important for students grades and therefore students test score are low because they spend hours doing their homework. Having too much homework does not give students enough time for them to study and focus on their test. Theres times that student go home and try to do their homework and still don't understand any of it. Teachers should be able to teach them in class and watch their students do their work at school and not have them do it at home. Its very rare that students don't have homework for at least one day. • 16. Homework Is Too Much Homework Starting in Preschool, students experience the responsibility of completing homework. Whether a student is memorizing the alphabet, completing multiplication worksheets, writing poems and essays, or completing pre–calculus problems, homework consumes much of their time. As time progress homework is becoming more of a burden to students. As children become older and life becomes more hectic, they cannot find enough hours in a day to correctly and fully complete their homework. Because of this, students can possibly fall behind in school and homework quickly becomes useless. Students of all ages are assigned too much homework. Homework consumes too much of a student's like and leaves no time for the more important aspects of life. In the article Too Much Homework written by Professor Carol Huntsinger, which gives insights from a book called The End of Homework: How Homework Disrupts Families, Overburdens Children and Limits Learning , written by Etta Kralovec and John Buell, explains that a student's busy schedule along with immense amounts of homework takes away from the most important parts of life. In this article, Huntsinger explains how a student named Josh Preston has a full high school course load, attends meetings, participates in school activities, and also attends three hour swim practices in the evening. Huntsinger then goes on to explain that after coming home from practice at 7:30 p.m., Preston has to do almost four hours of homework which leads to him only ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 17. Persuasive Essay Homework Students, parents, teachers, administrators and other interested parties all seem to have strong and different feelings towards homework. Students complain that they have too much homework to complete outside of the hours they already attended classes. Students feel that they have personal lives to live and blow off homework while some parents and teachers believe that homework is the key to passing classes and preparation for college. This leads to teachers feeling pressured to push their students to succeed and this can easily get carried away. Parents and school systems still often discuss the topic of homework today. Should homework in school systems be stopped? The general arguments given by teachers and some parents are that homework increases the overall grade averages, sharpens study habits, and helps students become more prepared for college work. Along with that, it helps students learn responsibility for life in the work field of the real work. Although these arguments are valid, there are arguments against homework as well. Homework causes students to be stressed out when there is too much to be done by a certain deadline and takes away the free time of students. Some of the work that students are assigned isn't relevant to what they are studying. Worst of all, it causes that struggling student to lose interest in the study of that subject ("Students and Homework"). While it does have negative outcomes, homework also has it's perks. • 18. Homework Argumentative Essay "Homework, which has long been a battleground among teachers, parents, and students, is coming under more scrutiny than ever as the divide grows between resistors and its proponents" (Luke). Homework has been a part of every student 's life since 1905 and recently has become a topic that people can not come to an agreement on. Students, teachers, and parents continually go back and forth everyday regarding the type of and amount of homework students receive. Although some people might think homework is beneficial, in fact, homework should be reduced because it can negatively affect a student's health and development. Homework has been used for years because some people believe that it is beneficial to students' academics. "Proponents of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... in Rahtke). Teachers and people who are pro homework would argue that this is the main reason students are assigned homework. Homework is continuously used by schools because of the potential benefits it can offer students. Most of the time when people talk about benefits of homework they talk about academic benefits, however there is also nonacademic benefits. When students are given homework students must take it upon themselves to make sure they complete it. Through this they learn an important tool that is necessary in life, time management. Cooper emphasizes that homework can also lead to students improving their self–direction, self–discipline, and self–organization. When students take it upon themselves to get their work done they improve their independent problem solving skills, which can help them both in school settings and out in the world. Homework helps build students' characters as well as improve their academic skills. Homework might appear to be beneficial when studies show students who do homework do better academically, however, there is a point at which homework has a negative effect on students. "The purpose of homework is to reinforce the learning that takes place in school or prepare children for forthcoming lessons, which in theory, sounds ideal. But, research on homework has indicated otherwise. Apparently, too much is detrimental to children" (Rajoo). The excessive homework that kids are being assigned is not helping ... • 19. Persuasive Essay Homework When the twentieth century began, the mind was viewed as a muscle that could be strengthened through mental exercise. Since this exercise could be done at home, homework was viewed favorably. During the 1940s, the emphasis in education shifted from drills to problem solving. Currently, homework is required by all that leads to academic success. Required. That word seems to scare many and stress all. There is nothing worse than watching a child struggle to accomplish a task that is required for completion. Stress will overcome them, and the depression overwhelms their body, causing them to stop trying. When students are assigned hours worth of homework and projects every night, it would be absurd for anyone to not notice some form of stress. It is difficult to help students who have this problem. They feel as though giving up is all they can do and accept the bad grade. Furthermore, there is a limit on everything; however, homework is breaking through those limits. Homework for elementary school students is higher than ever. Teachers should be teaching children to have a balance of play and school, but it is becoming harder to balance this because of all of this schoolwork. Even for the people participating in sports, it is hard to have that balance of school, work, sports, and family. Learning what benefits a student in school should be a priority; however, this is not being brought to our attention by the teachers. Although teachers believe homework benefits students, it ... • 20. The Benefits Of Less Homework "More than 70% of students said they were often or always stressed over homework" (Stanford Research). Many students are experiencing stress because of homework. When teachers give out excessive amounts of homework it causes students to be stressed, reduces the amount of free time they have, and it makes their practice less effective. Students receive many homework assignments from multiple teachers everyday. The amount of homework students receive should be reduced, because it will reduce stress, give the students free time, and help them to have more effective practice. Excessive amounts of homework puts stress on students, and can lead to health issues. When homework is loaded onto a student every night in each class, they can become quite overwhelmed. When students have anxiety and stress, their schoolwork is affected negatively. "Stress causes lack of sleep, slipping grades, fatigue, unhealthy eating habits, and many more factors" ("Should Students Get Less Homework"). Approximately 80% of students don't get the recommended amount of sleep each night. According to a 2006 poll, "At least 28% of students fall asleep in class, and around 22% fall asleep while doing homework" ("Should Students Get Less Homework"). • 21. The Effects of Homework on Education Introduction The debate over homework has become a controversial one throughout the years. Most of the general population is on the uprise to stop homework, while education providers try to endure its existence. While the general population see homework as a burden and unnecessary, the real idea of homework creates an obvious path of success. Part of that path to success is do to the instructors use of homework in the correct manner. While the other path, is the completion and practice a student puts forth for the understanding of the topic at hand. We create the sense of, why homework? Previous research has helped show a usefulness of homework throughout our education system (e.g. Kenny, 2013; Marzano, 2007; Jorgenson, 2013; Griffith, 2013; Dejka, 2014). While research has been conducted, there is never one concise choice that everyone can agree with. That is why the topic of homework is of such high debate. The idea of homework, though, gives us the opportunity to expand our learning and preparing us for what lies ahead. Background When thinking of homework, we think of the standard definition, "schoolwork that student is required to do at home." Homework being bad is associated in every student's mind. Our thinking involves that the teacher is just giving us busy work. In truth, the first definition is vague compared to the true meaning of the term. A more concise description of homework includes, "work or study done in preparation for a certain event or situation." ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 22. Eassy On Homework Homework was an essential feature of my own life whilst growing up. If memory serves me correct, the practice was always considered important and was enforced throughout grade school by both my teachers and parents. I remember coming home from school in second grade and completing a thick booklet of blank, squared pages that required me to print my numbers out from 1–1000. I sat at the kitchen table to complete it, with all seven of my family members conversing around me, as I was a child that lacked an adequate place to study. Envy invaded my mind as my brothers and sisters played joyfully around me, making it difficult to remain concentrated; nevertheless, I was forced to sit at the table until the booklet was completed. Instances such as the one previously mentioned were a regular occurrence in my youth and negatively impacted my playtime, although my brothers and sisters eventually joined me at the table to complete their own homework. Completing homework was a necessity in my household, and failing to do so would result in harsh consequences. One particular instance of an incomplete homework assignment stands out prominently in my memory. As I got older, my interests grew, but the amount of homework that I was required to accomplish gradually increased as well. During my upper–level elementary years, I was absolutely obsessed with the Harry Potter series by J.K. Rowling. In the final month of sixth grade I was assigned a year–end project to complete for English Language Arts. Unfortunately, the assignment became a conflict of interest for me owing to the fact that the weekend that it was assigned was also the weekend in which I would be acquiring the new Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix book at the pre–release event at midnight. While at the bookstore with my mother, jumping with excitement might I add, she asked me if I had any homework to complete over the weekend and explained to me that if I did, the book would have to wait until summer vacation arrived before I could begin reading it. Upon receiving this information, I lied to my mother and told her that our teacher did not give any homework during the last week of school because I did not want the book withheld from me until doing so. • 23. The Negative Effects Of Homework Homework can either be used for resourceful studying tool or can be a waste time for some students and others don't even attempt to try it, but can getting too much homework be stressful causing some to have mental breakdowns or something even worse ? Going to Palm Desert High School for the past two years, I have experienced first hand that there is so much homework given out causing so much stress and lack of sleep. Students are receiving too many extra assignments start to take a toll on the their life. As a student who plays three sports for two hours for five hours a day or on game days where I go home at eight o'clock it is difficult to shower and change then do my homework. I'm not saying that a student athlete should be pampered because they play sports, but every student should be given less altogether. As teachers excessive amounts of homework there is limited time to finish work for another class or study for another class. Whenever students actually do the unnecessary work and turn it in, it doesn't always get graded and it just causes stress on top of stress. Students are already not getting enough sleep with all six classes that they have. Yet homework is great for students it is very helpful for students for their classes, but at the same time they have so much excessive work that they have to finish it in such little time. • 25. Homework Is Too Much Homework Now I don't want to get off on a rant here, but school is giving us way too much homework and projects. We have only been in school for two months and we have had at least two projects for every core class except math, and a final 8th grade project. Everyday we wake up, go to school, and come home, easy right? No, everyday that we come home from school we have homework. Each class gives us at least 30 minutes worth of homework. 6 classes a day times 30 minutes is 180 minutes, which is 3 hours. We also need at least 1 hour for dinner and breaks in between. I go to school for about 7 hours (7 hours and 15 minutes to be exact) and when we get home, they expect us to spend at least another three hours practicing what we learned in school. Also, on nights that we have projects, that adds an extra two hours. My brain feels like it's older than my grandma! Also, not to brag, but I'm a pretty smart student, and teachers think that just because we are smart, we should get more work than everybody else. In honors math, we have to get more class work done in a shorter period of time, and more homework than everybody else. We tend towant to get good grades in every class, average grades are not enough for us. We have to, and I mean have to, get at least a 6 and if not higher, if we get a grade lower than that we are not satisfied and unhappy. Adding a study skill at East Jordan Middle High School will provide students time to do their homework and allow them to get help from a teacher. Without time to do theirhomework at school, most students just won't do it. Therefore, EJMHS must provide every student with study skills, in order to allow students to catch up on their grades, manage their time, and relieve their stress from homework. To begin, having study skills will provide more time at home for students. Having too much homework creates a barrier between students and their parents. From personal experience, most students tend to do their homework in their room, usually not getting it done. If students are pushed to do their work, then they will be more likely to do their homework and finish it. I'm Success, there will be a teacher pushing students to do their homework. • 27. Homework Persuasive Essay When in a large room full of people talking away, we tend to pay more attention to the voices easiest to hear; the loudest ones. The debate over homework is one taking place in this metaphorical room. There are many, many people talking, but the loudest voices are easiest to hear. Currently those voices are saying that we should get rid of all homework for young students. But are those loud voices right? The more soft–spoken, expert voices are telling us the opposite. Homework teaches excellent study skills and is extremely beneficial to students, therefore it should be mandatory from a young age to help them to become high achievers. Homework helps kids to learn to work hard; they can get used to it early on. The cliche 'practice makes perfect' is ever applicable, and experts have come up with a rule for how much homework children should be given. "A report on the Indus Valley Civilization" "[Parts of] this algebra worksheet. We never even talked about it in class!" "...geometry proofs. We just copied off each other 5 minutes before class" (The Onion). It is no wonder schools are starting to get rids of homework. Assignments like these are tedious for students, parents, and teachers alike. They do not help students to elevate their learning– it is just busywork. But is getting rid of homework actually the answer? Some think that it is better for kids to leave the learning at school, and some schools are implementing those ideas. • 28. The Benefits Of Homework Cooper defines homework as "task assigned to students by school teachers that are meant to be carried out during non–school hour."(Cooper 2015) However, is it effective enough to justify its extension of the six hours of school students experience each weekday? As Bennett explains in "Must Won't Do It!", "Much attention is placed on helping students develop as complex and creative thinkers, yet many classrooms continue to use learning structures without examining their effectiveness. This is often the case with homework. Research findings on the effectiveness of homework are mixed, and few studies have examined students' and educators' perspectives on the benefits of homework as a learning structure" (Bennet). Our current structure of homework may be achieving the opposite of what it needs to do. More than any other aspect of education, homework has been the cause of more friction between schools and home and becomes the prime battlefield when schools, families, and communities view one another as adversaries. Recent homework debates in this country have centered on questions of how much homework at which grades produce what kinds of learning gains. A recent analysis of homework research by the Center for Public Education (2007) found that homework at the elementary level is counterproductive, while homework in middle and high school shows some correlation with small increases in test scores. But those findings do not hold across the board. Homework may have ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

We have lives outside of the classroom and keeping track of our work is very difficult, but there are ways to help keep the two balanced. Here are some helpful ways to keep your school life managed and still have a productive lifestyle. I've been in school for a little while now and one of the things I dreaded the most was the teacher saying "Yourhomework for tonight is..."Hearing those words just ruined my mood. However, homework may not be the most enjoyable thing in the world it is important. It's 10% of your grade but also allows to practice more on what you're learning. Once you get home, homework should be the first thing on your mind so you can just get it out of the way. When working on homework you should definitely turn off all electronic devices so it won't get in the way of you focusing. Another thing that could be distracting is family. As much fun as family might be, having someone there when you're trying to do classwork could get you really off topic. I have a cousin who I definitely adore and we are super close but once we get to talking there is just no stopping us. Keeping a distance from them will keep you on task and you will also get your work done faster. Once that is out of the way you can have all the time to socialize. Ever been so stressed out about a test before? Well guess what, you're not alone. Test and exams are so stressful and sometimes they could either make or break your grade. Having that kind of pressure put on you doesn't feel good but there are ways you can prep and not be so freaked out. A key thing that goes along with studying is the same with homework, turn off all devices that have nothing to do with school. For instances phones, with all this new social media coming out all you want do is snapchat friends and see what they are doing. That'll distract you from studying. • 30. Negative Effects Of Homework As a high schooler, you get lots of homework which can easily cause you stress, but others like parents have another understanding of homework because they think it gives their children something to do besides sitting and watching the television. Also teachers tend to give out homework for the benefit of your learning skills or just of what you learned on that school day in general, which isn't always helpful. The harsh thing parents and teachers don't realize is the agonizing pain and life consuming of having large amounts of homework which causes us to have negative consequences. Heavy loads of homework can be shown more as harmful than good, not only for students but also for their families. As shown in Source B it says, "It is the primary arena in which children, parents and schools interact on a daily basis" (Gill and Schossman). Which I can totally disagree with from my experience, stating that every time I come from school to home, I always have to go straight to my room, turn my computer on, and either work on essays or have to search up problems for my algebra assignments, or just information for any class in general, which takes up a whole day of my life. Another reason is it is very time consuming! These homeworks are always getting in my way of either having activities after school or just time to spend with my family, which I hardly ever have a chance to do because of all the work I have, and might I also state that my mom is always worrying about my health since I usually don't have time to eat too, also she is always asking me if I have time to read the bible with my siblings and father, which I automatically have to state I can't because again of all this work. Another statement I have is how homework is mainly useless to our education, grabbing information from Source F, "Kids who wouldn't dream of cheating on a test or copying a research paper think nothing of copying homework" (Chaika). Since doing homework is just such a waste for us we usually just copy it either from other people or from the internet, and since math class usually just gives a packet about what is going to be on the quiz, we end up using that to study which ends up being more helpful for the upcoming test rather than doing ... Whether it is in tests, quizzes, or real life situations, improvement does not always show in the results. In fact, homework can cause many different problems. Teachers should stop assigninghomework so students will not feel as stressed about school, will have more time to do activities, will have less strain in their relationships, and will not have the negative effects that homework brings. Having too much homework causes students large amounts of stress and lack of sleep that can cause health problems. On a survey that Stanford researchers tested on 4317 students, fifty–six percent of the students considered homework a primary source of stress, forty–three percent of the students viewed tests as a primary stressor, thirty–three percent put pressure to get good grades in that category (Parker). Less than one percent of the students said that homework was not a stressor (Parker). That means that about 4273 students considered homeword a stressor, while less than 50 out of 4317 students believed homework to not be a stressor. Students should not be required to do homework because it should be taught in class. Most students don't get a lot of sleep due to amount hours they are spending doing homework. There is a lot of stress when students are doing their homework and there isn't anyone that is able to help with questions that might arise, also not to mention the how frustrated you feel when you are searching the internet for help or clarification and you right where you began. There are few teachers that are available after hours to help and guide students, but that isn't common practice with most teachers. Last but not least is the fact that more than half of students have extracurricular activities. Homework makes kids stressed, grumpy and they can't hang out with family or friends, and they don't get the sleep they need. It's a fact that students don't get enough sleep. In the article Sleep Schedules and Daytime Functioning in Adolescents the authors Amy R. Wolfson and Mary A. Especially because they probably have more school work the next day for them to do. Next, kids don't get enough family time after school or even on weekends which is not good because kids need family time once in awhile because it normally keeps kids going when they can have fun with their families. Also, homework can cause mental issues which can be bad for their health. Like depression or even just give kids bad thoughts of doing bad things. Additionally, a lot of other people also agree with me about the no homework policy because of these reasons. One reason we shouldn't have homework is because kids don't get enough sleep for the next day. "We really want the kids to go home at 4 o'clock, tired. We want their brain to be tired," Kelly Elementary School Principal Jackie Glasheen Said in an interview with a local TV station." Said time.com. • 37. The Importance Of Homework Essay Why homework is beneficial and can be harmful These days, there are strong views from parents whether homework is good and those who believe homework is not so good for their kids. Data from a 2006 meta–analysis by Duke University psychology professor Harris Cooper shows a positive correlation between homework and student achievement, meaning that students who studied more and did their homework academically achieved better results than those who didn't. The relationship between homework and performance was stronger for older year groups (Year 7 – Year 12). Personally, I believe this is because the information taught in the higher year's content is more advanced so the people who don't do their homework get low or passable grades and the students who do their work achieve greater. More understanding of the topics are required and to absorb the masses of information that the students get, they must work harder and do more work. Cooper's analysis focused mainly on how homework impacted academic achievement – test scores, for example. His report also noted that homework is also considered to assist and improve study habits, attitudes toward school, inquisitiveness, self–discipline and independent problem solving skills. As a student, I believe that homework and studying is a very advantageous process that definitely can benefit and improve a students' grades, shape their attitudes towards work and help them overcome future problems by attacking them head on. In the survey conducted on high schoolers in California, 56% of participants admitted homework as their primary stressor, while less than 1% said homework was not a stressor (Strauss). Regarding physical symptoms, 72% of students disclosed their constant state of anxiety over school work, resulting in sleep deprivation, headaches, exhaustion, weight loss, stomach pain, and the lack of stability in their lives (Strauss). Over 80% of the students encountered a physical symptom in the timespan of a month, 44% of whom experienced three or more in that time period (Strauss). In addition to this, parents argued their children do not have enough time to complete chores, a skill that also trains a sense of responsibility within adolescents (Ponte). Furthermore, homework limits a child's development of social skills, as it leaves them with little time to interact with friends (Ponte). In addition to the shortage of social interactions among friends, adolescents have limited time to converse with their family members as well. For example, junior Julia Jones was assigned a group project over Winter Break, a time specifically created for a vacation from school (Ponte). As expected, both of Julia's partners were on vacation–one of which being out of country (Ponte).
