The document provides guidance for creating a production log to track the process of filming, editing, and producing a music video. It outlines various elements to include under the Filming and Editing sections such as technical details, logistics, personnel, planning, and next steps for filming and editing progress, decisions, problems, file management, assembly, refinement, color correction, and export settings.
2. PRODUCTION LOG:
GUIDANCE
• This document is for you to track the progress of your
production – filming, editing and post-production.
• This is so you can track what you did and how you did it,
explaining and amendments and changes you made and
tracking the decisions that have shaped the practical
creation of your music video.
• The more detail you include about how you made your music
video, the better. The document is broken down in to two
sections, Filming and Editing, each of these is then made of
specific elements that occur in both.
• For each slide there is a prompt detailing what you should
include, delete the prompt after you have complete the slide.
• Remember, images often show what you’ve done more
effectively than words. Use text to explain an illustration.
3. FILMING
Explain what worked and didn’t work about your filming and how you
managed this covering the following areas:
• Technical – using the cameras and any technical equipment; this could
be how you did your lip sync, used the green screen, dealt with problems
with batteries, etc
• Logistical – did your locations work? Did you have any access
problems? Did it rain?
• Personnel – how were your cast/crew? Did anyone let you down? How
did you manage this?
• Planning – did your planning help? Do you think it could have worked
better? How?
• Next steps – do you need to re-film? Film more? Have you changed your
video? How/why?
*If you make any drastic changes to your video you MUST
add this to your planning documentation and state how and
why this has happened
4. FILMING
Technical- The battery had run out of power at two points during
filming but I made sure to bring a spare battery and I brought a
charger in case I ran out of power on both batteries. I kept a
protective cover over the camera so it was less likely to get dented or
damaged by the rain.
Logistical- I was able to access all of my locations easily and none
of the required permission to film at. However when filming at
Newland Park Drive there was a lot of cars which meant that it took a
lot longer to filmed the shots because lots of cars got in the way and
we had to wait for the cars to pass before filming. It also rained when
I was filming however I knew the shots would be short and heavily
edited so the rain would have minimal effect on the clips.
5. FILMING
Personal- I wasn't able to film with PJ as he wasn't available at
the time. I thought this could be a could be possibility so I used
Dai as a plan b actor and filmed shot 1 and 2 on Pelican Street
South Wales instead of on University and we used a bike instead
or a skateboard.
Planning- The planning as I wasn't making up on the spot when I
was out filming and I had an idea of how it would look in the music
video as a whole.
7. EDITING
• Record your edit progress, decisions, problems, etc. in
this section
• Include screenshots with annotations, statements, etc.
• Try to explain how you worked and justify why you chose
to work the way you did.
• Follow the structure and what to include on each slide as
this is necessary for evidence for assessment
8. EDITING
Firstly I mapped out on premiere where I when the scene
changed and the length of them using the markers in
premiere. I added the plane footage and used key frames to
change the contrast over time. I also experimented with
using the wave warp effect. I inserted the videos shot of the
money falling but realized that the video was too zoomed in.
9. EDITING_
FILE MANAGEMENT
In my documents folder I made and dedicated a folder called
“York College Music Video”. In this folder in placed the songs
audio, the individual videos, and the adobe premiere project
as a whole.
10. EDITING –
SETTING UP PREMIERE
I called my project “York College MV project Foreword by
Tyler, the creator” and saved it in the “York College Music
Video” folder.
The video setting I filmed in was HD 1080p 24 mega pixels
The project
11. EDITING –
IMPORTING FOOTAGE
I imported the audio for song on youtube using a youtube
converter then save the download to the york college music
video folder and put the audio in the time line. I recorded the
footage the camera and then plugged the camera’s SD drive
onto the computer and also put the footage in the york
college music video folder. Finally I put all the footage and
audio in the project tab on premier.
12. EDITING –
WORKSPACE
Show and describe the Premiere Pro workspace – preview
window, bins, timeline, playback window, tool bar, audio
levels, etc
13. EDITING_WORKSPACE
PLAYBACK WINDOW
The playback window in located in the center on my premiere
project. Its main use is see the consequences of your editing
and effects added. This means you will be able to tell if a
your editing is effective without having to publish the project
first. It also has a lot of tools to do with framing and
exporting frames.
14. EDITING
WORKSPACE_TIMELINE
The time is where you put the footage you will use in your
final product. It is used to cut and organize footage using the
video and audio layers. It is also uses to select what clip you
want to add effects to by clicking on the clip and the finding
the effect in the efffect menu. I also has an blue arrow
displaying what part of footage you are previewing.
15. EDITING_WORKSPACE
PROJECT WINDOW
This is where the footage you have recorded for your video is
storage. This is useful as you might not want to use all the
footage you have shot but still have quick access to it if you
change your mind.
16. EDITING_WORKSPACE
EFFECT CONTROLS
The effect controls are you alter the magnitude of the effects
that you applied, it also allows the user to select a specific
area that the effect will affect. The effect controls are
especially useful when key frames are used as this means
you can increase or decrease effects over time in a
sequence.
17. EDITING –
ASSEMBLY EDIT
Show how you put together your basic sequence in the order
you want it – previewing clips, dragging to the timeline,
trimming/cutting, etc
If you have a lip sync, pay special attention to showing how
you synchronised the footage with the audio track
19. EDITING –
COLOUR CORRECTION/SFX
Show and explain your colour correction process/effects
process – use staged screenshots to show each part of the
process and the effect. Explain why you chose to do this
20. EDITING –
EXPORT
Show how you exported your completed project, show which
settings you have used and explain your choice of file name
and where you have saved it
