this is my deconstruction of the metal hammer magazines front cover and contents page, i have also annotated the images so that you can see what they did well.

2. Front Cover Offer of free CD encourages readers to buy. Title, saves space as one word is within the other, looks very good. Models are of very famous guitarists gives the connotation that you can get good at guitar just by reading it. Swords point up towards the main area reducing attention in the lower half. Names of bands inside posted on the top of the magazine were its easiest to see. The headline has been placed in the dead centre which is not normal for a magazine of this type however it does look good. Barcode and price placed in the lower right of the magazine. This follows the conventions of a music magazine.

3. Contents page Picture of the front cover shows what page the main story is on. List of every band and page they are on for quick navigation to the page you want. The headline has re-appeared on this page along with a page number. Bright yellow circle sticks out from the rest of the page and makes you check your free gift. Contents bar at the right hand side of the page follows the conventions of a contents page, also gives you a page number for easier navigation. Lots of images and text re-used from front cover, creates a branch between the contents and front cover.
