In what ways does your media product use, develop or challenge forms and conventions of real media products? My product follows many standard conventions that many magazines follow: The masthead is large, covering most of the upper third of the cover The colours are bright to draw attention to the magazine and makes the magazine look attractive and stick out from the rest The model is holding a guitar which sticks out from his clothing My masthead is similar in appearance to other magazines of this type. However my product challenges some conventions: the backgrounds are dark and blurred drawing attention to the model. The photography of the model and background are quite dark My model has a screaming face and stares right at the camera which excites the audience.
How did you attract and address your audience? My audience is primarily guitarists within the ages of 17 and 25 who are interested in guitar and rock music. I created a survey to test my market target audience and see what they wanted in a music magazine. From my survey I found four factors that my audience asked for that I thought would be essential to my final layout if I wanted my product to compete in the market: Guitar tabs A rock feel similar to other magazines Interviews with famous guitarists The exact price the audience would be happy paying. I tried my best to incorporate all of these factors in my magazine the best I could so that I could make the most professional magazine and easily sellable product possible.
What have you learned about technologies from the process of constructing this product? Throughout my project I have developed many skills in magazine creation and photoshop editing, I can now minipulate images however I want and create professional standard magazines with the skills available. I have also learnt about the different types of media available such as websites and magazines and how they link together in modern magazines. I have also learnt a lot about using blogs and the positives that it brings to your production, I can look through all of the work that I have done throughout the year and see the progress that I have made throughout the year.
Looking back at your preliminary task, what do you feel you have learnt in the progression from it to the full product? Since my preliminary task I have learnt about the processes that magazine making has to go through such as research and planning and even taking photos, doing the preliminary allowed me to hone these skills and improve the ones that I already had to help me make a better final magazine. i understand how a good colour scheme can severely help make a better magazine and that different colours attract different audiences, using this knowledge I created a colour scheme which matched what the audience would like to see and made it look professional. I have a better understanding of how a magazine is put together, I understand the standard conventions of a layout and why they are standard conventions. I am now confident that if I was ever to make a new magazine, I believe that I could made another one of any genre and make it an even better quality
