The Jazz Singer
The Jazz Singer, released in 1927, is a black and white film that centers on a young man who wishes
to conquer his dreams in becoming a professional jazz singer. This film, directed by Alan Crosland,
demonstrates new developments from the decade of the 1920's. During the decade, many new
advances; such as the introduction of musicals and other technological advancements, were created.
The Jazz Singer utilized these new advances of the decade and incorporated them into each scene.
This is evident due to the elements of being the first talkie film, the introduction of the new musical
genre and the introduction of the Hollywood stars system. By utilizing the new advances of the
decade, Crosland's film, changed the way cinema would be seen ... Show more content on

The 1920's was the era of many new technological developments. Two major breakthroughs were
the introduction of sound and musicals in cinema. In the early 1920's, musicals were very popular in
the theatre and, especially, on Broadway. Therefore, once sound was introduced in films, it was only
a matter of time until musicals would be introduced in films. The Jazz Singer is an excellent
example of the introduction of both these elements. "The 1920's were Broadway's busiest decade,
with as many as fifty new musicals opening in a single season. [...] With so much demand, it was a
time of extraordinary artistic development in the musical theatre" (Kenrick). A musical is "a play or
film in which singing and dancing play an essential part" (Definition of musical in English).
Because Crosland introduced these elements into his film, he was the first to introduce musicals into
the cinema field. "The huge demand for The Jazz Singer was unexpected, and caused other studios
to begin to produce sound films of their own to capitalize on what at the time they saw as a fad"
(1920s Movies). The introduction to sound and musicals on screen was such a big advancement at
the time that other studios wanted to invest in the new technology.
Finally, The Jazz Singer is a feature film that introduces the new Hollywood stars concept. In the
early 1920's the Hollywood stars system developed; meaning that actors where

The Usual Suspects By Bryan Singer: Film Analysis
The 1995 film The Usual Suspects directed by Bryan Singer demonstrates the lifestyle of criminals
whose decisions caused an explosion at the San Pedro Harbor, killing many men with few survivors.
As police gather evidence about a recent explosion in the harbor, con man Roger Kint tells the US
Customs agent the events that led up to the explosion. He starts his story when he and four other
men, Fenster, Keaton, McManus, and Hockney, were in a line–up, then stuck in a cell together while
waiting for bail. These men decide to plan a job to get revenge on the cops. All goes well until the
mythical Keyser Söze becomes in charge of these men. Their criminal actions lead to a shoot–off in
a boat which leaves 27 dead and few survivors. Although most of ... Show more content on

To explain, before committing a criminal act, a person makes a choice, weighing the positive and
negative aspects of their action. If the criminal commits the crime, they rationalized that the positive
aspects of their actions outweigh getting caught, or other things negative influences. Throughout
The Usual Suspects, there were many instances where the characters rationalized a choice to commit
a crime. Using the principles rational choice theory, occurrences of decisions to commit a crime can
be analyzed to understand why the character thought the crime was a benefit. The first occurrence
was when the five men were in a cell together and McManus suggested that they get revenge on the
police by doing one last job. At that moment in the cell, all the men but Keaton were thinking about
whether or not to join McManus. Possible costs they may have thought of could have included being
incarcerated or failing the job while possible benefits may have been getting revenge for being the
usual suspects of that police department. Keaton at this moment was noticing that the costs outweigh
the benefits.

Peter Singer Essay
Peter Singer, an Australian philosopher and professor at Princeton University asks his students the
simple question of whether they would save a drowning child from a pond, while wearing they're
bran new pair of expensive shoes. The response was aggressive and passive "How could anyone
consider a pair of shoes, or missing an hour or two at work, a good reason for not saving a child's
life?" ¹ Singer continued to argue that " according to UNICEF, nearly 10 million children under five
years old die each year from causes related to poverty." ² Is not saving a child drowning in a pond
right in front of you the same thing as a child half way across the world dying in poverty? Peter

We each have a right to buy anything we would like with our own money. Whether that right is a
good decision how ever is something we must stop and question. " You may have a right to spend
your weekend surfing, but it can still be true that you ought to visit your sick mother." Someone
with all the money in the world could buy a new car every day, throw lavish parties, go on vacation
once a month on a new jet plane and even throw tons of money into a lake, they have the right to do
so with they're money! How ever coud this incredibly rich person choose to do other things with
their money? " To choose to do these things rather than use the money to save human lives is
wrong." ⁵ Singer insist that we should use our money wisely. In Singer's last argument he states a
blunt and simple responce to Lucy's opinion on giving. " My aim is to convince you, the individual
reader that you can and should be doing a lot more to help the poor." By having the right to controle
your own money and because we were fortunate enough to live in such great economical conditions,
we should work harder to help others that will never have the same chances. Lucy from Glennview
High and Peter Singer make strong points on each side of the fence. I am all for Lucy's opinion in
the sense that if a person works hard in life to earn their money, they have the right to spend it on
themselves. I for one go to school full

The Jazz Singer : The Jazz Singer
The end of the 1920s was known for the ending of the silent film in Hollywood. With the
advancement of sound technology, it has transformed the way we view films in today's world. It all
began with a film called The Jazz Singer, directed by Alan Crosland, starring Al Jolson, Warner
Oland, and May McAvoy. The film is about a little boy named Jakie, whose father is a Jewish
cantor, and he defied his father by not wanting to follow the family tradition of cantors. He wanted
to be a performer, specifically, a jazz singer. One day, he was discovered by his neighbor Moisha
and thus he got beat up and kicked out of the house. Jakie vowed to never return home. A decade
later, Jackie is a performer with the help of his lover Mary with a new identity by the name of Jack
Robin who wears a black face when on stage. One night, his father fell ill and was asked to sing at
the synagogue, however, it fell on the same day as his opening show on Broadway. Jakie had to
make a tough decision choosing between his family or his career. The Jazz Singer was a big hit
when it was released in 1927 by the Warner Bros. It became the first known film that featured a
synchronized dialogue that ended the silent film era. Although the film was mostly silent, the film
has some talking and several songs sung exclusively by Al Jolson himself. "At the very first
Academy Awards, held in May 1929 and honoring films from 1927 and 1928, The Jazz Singer
earned a special citation as 'the pioneer outstanding

Shakira, The Singer Essay
There are many famous people around the world, and some of them are the singers. The singers are
very important for the people thanks to their music. One of the persons that most people like
because of her own style of music is the Latin girl Shakira. Thanks to all the things she did as a
child, and to all the things she is going to do, she has become a star that we, the people who know
her, love.
Shakira has done a lot of things since she was a child to become the famous person she is now. She
was born in Barranquilla, Colombia on February second, 1977. At the age of 8, she wrote her first
song, and by 13 she signed a record deal with Sony Music in Colombia, which resulted in her first
album, "Magia" (Magic). She wrote all the songs ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Thanks to this album, she gained international fame since her two first albums were just sold in
Colombia. Later, after a year, she released her fourth album, "The Remixes," which include some
songs from "Pies Descalzos" in remix style. On 1998, she began to work with the Cuban producer,
Emilio Estefan. While working with him, she recorded another album called "¿Donde Estan Los
Ladrones?"(Where Are the Thieves?) Because of this album, she was called the "Latin Queen of
Rock and Pop." Later on 2000, she recorded the "Unplugged Album" which was a mix of songs
(sung in a mini live concert) from "¿Donde estan Los Ladrones?" and "Pies Descalzos" And this is
all the work she has done to become a star.
Shakira has planned to do many things for the future. "Right now, she is taking a break, but her next
logical step is crossover the English Market" (www.geocities.com/ donde_ esta_
shakira/Menu/index.html). The singer Gloria Estefan, Emilio's wife, is helping Shakira to translate
some of her best songs to the English language. She is planning to take over the American people,
and I know that she will because of her great talent and own style. Another plan she has, according
to the people who knows her, is to get married. Since the day she got a boyfriend, all the people is
talking about it, but nobody is sure of what she is going to do.

Poverty By Peter Singer
Poverty
At any given moment, there are millions of people suffering and dying each day due to poverty.
According to Peter Singer, there is much more that we can and should do to help create a better life
for these people. Even a small act can make a big difference. Although, there are many people who
disagree that it is our duty to provide for those in need for various reasons. I will argue that Singer's
principle succeeds that it is our duty to help people in poverty.
Singer's argument states that we have a duty to help the poor. He makes the obvious statement, in
which most people agree with, that suffering and death due to poverty are very bad. His second idea
is that if we are able to prevent that from happening without sacrificing ... Show more content on

The child will drown right now if one does not help him or her, while typically, giving to the poor
will only help save lives in the future, not instantly. People also do not think they can compare
because you are the only one to help the drowning child, while there are millions more who can help
those in poverty.
Distance has no impact on the importance of the situation. Singer responds by saying if "a person is
physically near us... [it] may make it more likely that we shall assist him, but this does not show that
we ought to help him rather than another who happens to be further away." (Singer, page 5) We
should not deprive someone of help simply because of distance. Furthermore, we should not avoid
helping someone just because there are several others who could do the same. For example, are we
less compelled to help a drowning child if there are several other onlookers? If there are other
people around us in the situation, we are still likely to jump in after the child. Singer points out that
we may feel less guilty to give nothing if we have the ability to point out others who do the same.
(Singer page 6) If everyone gave a small contribution, it would make a big difference to those in
need.
There is much more than what we already do to prevent suffering and death due to poverty without
compromising anything of comparable significance for ourselves. We can always do more to help,
although, several people do not think

Poverty in Children
Peter Singer the author of the story "The Singer Solution to World Poverty" which talks about how
humans are selfish and spend their extra money on luxuries instead of donating it to charities to help
starving children. Singer rambles back and forth how greedy we are and tries to make us feel guilty
for those innocent starving children. Children that we suddenly have to care about just because
they're almost dead "Children" are the ones to care about in this situation instead of spending our
money on whatever we want we have to spend it on children you might as well have children of
your own if you're doing that. In a way when you donate money to a charity you're just giving up
your extra but like having a child your giving up extra for others Why would I give my hard–earned
cash to some five–year–old across the planet when someone closer and richer could do the same and
let me be so I can enjoy my wealth. I agree but I also disagree with Singer that the starving children
need to be saved, but I don't think this is the right solution to fixing the problem because it can cause
more problems for everyone over a course of years.
Singer is just trying to persuade us by saying "children are starving do something don't be selfish
and keep your money on you it makes you look bad" I don't really see it as "bad" if you're being
smart with your money and not greedy there's a big difference between the two and for even saying
that I don't want to give my money to

With many families in the world starving and/ or dealing with diseases they don't know how to cure,
but with money provided they would be able to get it under control at least a start. Then we have the
people in the states who are more worried about the fact that they don't have the newest iPhone,
which note, is not a life or death necessity. How are we to justify the fact that we are able to spend
all the money we have on unnecessary items and the people in North Korean or parts in Africa can
barely or many not even be able to afford food for the day to survive. As Peter Singer states "We
cannot dis criminate against someone merely because he is far away... We are in a better position to
judge what needs to be done to help a person near to us than one far away" (Singer P.2). Alongside

So if it is in our power to help the children in Africa who are suffering from starvation or even
disease their country that does not know how to treat yet, we are obligated to help. Some may ask
why they are thousands of miles away why are we to give our money to them? In that case as singer
has noted distance should not matter in the sense of being able to help starving kids. When you ask
yourself whether you're in the bind of being able to help starving kids or buying the newest up to
date iPhone the first answer would be to donate, but many people see the relief organizations as a
scam and wonder if they were to donate if the money would really go to the people they said they
were going to. In that case you have to do your research in the organization to be sure they have had
a good reputation. Singers view on this topic was very strong in the sense of having knowing what

Jazz Singer Research Paper
The innovation of The Jazz Singer allows it to hold an important place in film history for being
among the first synchronized sound films. It is credited for ending the silent film era and pioneering
new and creative ways to tell stories. However, silent films would still be made way into the 1930s,
and Charlie Chaplin's Modern Times (1936) is sometimes described as the last silent film. People
are often surprised to learn that The Jazz Singer was not the first film to use sound. 1926's Don Juan
was the first feature–length film to use the Vitaphone for its sound effects and soundtrack, even
though the film has no spoken dialogue. The first "all–talking" (or all–dialogue) feature–length
picture was Warners Brothers, gangster film Lights of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

The Reading I Chose Is Animal Liberation, By Peter Singer
The reading I chose is Animal Liberation, by Peter Singer. Peter Singer argues against animals
cruelty, discrimination, and animals equal rights. Singer uses philosophy to teach and educate others
on his point of view. Singer points out that animals have rights too and supports animals just like he
does with Black Liberation, Gay Liberation, and Women Liberation. Singer states, "It is a demand
for a complete change in our attitudes to nonhumans. It is a demand that we cease to regard the
exploitation of other species as natural and inevitable, and that, instead, we see it as a continuing
moral outrage." (pg.208) He supports the equal treatment of animals just like women did in
changing societies views of work place and labor. Comparing Practical Ethics in the book with other
stories, Singer tells the lifestyle about values and learning. To show the attitude and helping people
built a communicating environment. Like the opposite of non–human as Ape uses the signing to
communicate with people learning on human for chimpanzee on the behavior. For example, the ape
signings the clap, eat, bye as wave as one hand with human to use the simplify language. The people
don't have to learn the language on ape own symbol signs. The ape will understand to use

Singer talks about how insufficient aid and financial resources are being rendered to the people
suffering in East Bengal. He is upset by the lack of concern displayed by people in the more affluent
countries and believes that people do not have a sense of moral high ground. This is when he
passionately argues about how people are delusional with regards to the concept of famine, charity
and duty. Singer's argument rests on various premises, however I shall tackle the premise where he
states "if it is in our power to prevent something bad from happening, without thereby sacrificing
anything of comparable moral importance, we ought, morally, to do it." (pg 231) What this implies
is if its within our capabilities to eliminate suffering (which

Peter Singer Poverty
According to the United Nations, a child dies of hunger every ten seconds. Likewise, millions of
people worldwide live in poverty and do not know when they will eat again. While the typical
American throws away leftover food, children are dying across the world from starvation. To put
this into perspective: By the time you have started reading, a child has died of hunger. But who is to
blame? According to Singer, you are. Bioethicist and utilitarian philosopher, Peter Singer, in his
argumentative essay, "The Singer Solution to World Poverty," asserts that it is the individual's
responsibility to save children in poverty. Singer utilizes many rhetorical strategies–– including
appealing to pathos, repetition, and comparison of statistics–– to ... Show more content on

By providing a specific number, $200, Singer demonstrates how reasonable it is to save a child in
poverty. Additionally, he repeats, "to save a child's life," which demonstrates exactly what a $200
donation could do for a helpless child. As an example, Singer references a credible philosopher,
Peter Unger, and acknowledges that "by his calculation, $200 in donations would help a sickly 2–
year–old transform into a healthy 6–year–old." Next, he establishes, "if you were to give up dining
out just for one month, you would easily save that amount." Singer emphasizes this to show the
reader how simple it is to save $200, and, more importantly, save the life of a helpless child. By
repeating this number multiple times, following with "to save a child's life," throughout his essay,
Singer implies a rational yet urgent tone in order to convince the reader that if they donate, they will

Singer Theme
Being raised by a rabbi in a large Jewish neighborhood, Isaac Bashevis Singer uses Jewish beliefs
and themes as the focal point in almost all of his works. As Singer retells many childhood stories in
his memoir In My Father's Court, the idea and motif of forgiveness is constantly used as he
witnesses his father perform many arbitrations. Singer also uses forgiveness as a central theme in his
later adult work, as seen in his short story "A Crown of Feathers"; though it is evident through the
story that his view on forgiveness had changed as he grew older. While Singer has retained the
theme of forgiveness in his work, it has matured and darkened as a result of his life experiences. As
the son of a rabbi, Singer was able to see firsthand the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

changed, Singer realized that his beliefs were not as simple as he thought as a child and that there is
much more inner turmoil present needed for forgiveness. This realization came with growing up in a
conflict–ridden Europe that culminated in the Holocaust. Singer's perception of forgiveness evolved
not only due to simply growing up, but also possibly because of the Holocaust and its effect on other
Jews, as he was able to avoid it. Singer's relationship with forgiveness shows the complexity of both

Rhetorical Analysis Of Peter Singer 's ' The Singer Solution
Rhetorical Analysis of Peter Singer's 'The Singer Solution to World Poverty" From the streets of
New York, to the mud homes in South Africa, poverty is a problem the world has been facing since
the beginning. We see people pushing buggies full of items from their past lives, or we see children
on the television struggling to survive due to the lack of food or clean water in their country. Yet,
only a handful of us actually defend these children in a world that heavily depends on the idea that
people should take care of themselves, rather than worrying about others. The world of poverty can
be treated instead of neglected if we set aside that selfish–capitalistic mindset and use our time and
money for our useless wants, to fulfil someone else's specific needs so that the future generations of
children don't have to suffer in horrible living conditions. Singer, the author of this essay, prevails
the idea of ethos, pathos, and logos during each explanation as well as showing his readers the idea
that we as humans should do the greater good and live up to our ethical moral obligations in the
society that we live in. Singer has the same views that most of us have when it comes to poverty and
especially poverty in young children. He argues that if we can prevent something horrible from
happening, such as the poverty of children in our world, without sacrificing anything of importance
that is remotely comparable, that we should do anything in our power to do so. Singer climbs

Analysis Of Madame X By John Singer Sargent
Introduction
This essay analyzes on the portrait of "Madame X" painted by John Singer Sargent as well as the
background of the artist himself. It analyzes on the physical, visual and aesthetics characteristics. In
addition, it argues on the controversial output given by critics of the time as well as analyzing and
comparing two interpretations of the portrait by art historians from the 19th century and the 20th
century.
Background of John Singer
John Singer Sargent (1884–1916) was the portrait artist for rulers and the upper class in both Europe
and the United States of America. He was considered the greatest painter of his era. In addition, he
was born abroad and an expatriate in his life; he loyally supported all things English, but never
renounced his American citizenship. Sargent's works reveal the individuality and personality of his
sitters. Sargent was one of the last great Realist artists of his time. Realism was a reaction against
Romanticism and sprung out of the toppling of the old order during the French Revolution. Realism
focused on the modern world instead of the historical, the truth instead of the varnished truth.

Peter Singer: Sentience vs Self-Conciousness Essay
"Explain Singer's distinction between sentience and self–consciousness, and what the distinction
implies for the moral status of animals. Do you believe non–human animals have the same or a
different moral status to human animals? Explain the basis of your answer."
More than three decades ago Peter Singer heralded the need for a new kind of liberation movement,
one calling for a radical expansion of the human moral canvas and more importantly, a rejection of
the horrors human beings have inflicted for millennia upon other sentient beings, treatment
historically considered as being both natural and unalterable. Often regarded as being the father of
the modern animal liberation movement, Singer contends that the campaign for animal ... Show

Birth and death therefore cancel each other out whereas the death of an animal with a desire for
prolonged life means that their death inflicts a loss for which the birth of another does not wholly
atone for. (1993, p. 126) This Singer refers to as the 'replacability argument' which effectively seeks
to draw a distinction between classes of sentient life forms. According to Singer, those animals
which are not self–conscious are replaceable whilst those which are self–concious are not. If an
animal is not self–concious then painlessly killing it and replacing it with an equally happy animal
of the same species is considered to be morally permissible. However, if a human is self–concious
then to painlessly kill one with a desire for continued existence and again replacing it with an
equally happy human being would still be regarded as wrong. While practices such as factory
farming are still regarded by Singer as being ethically indefensible, he concedes that there is no
absolute moral requirement for humans to not eat meat so long as the animal "[has] a pleasant
existence in a social group suited to their [behavioural] needs, and are then killed quickly and
without pain." (1990, p. 229–230)

The Downfal of Women in Good Man Is Hard To Find by Singer
"A Good Man Is Hard To Find" is a short story by Isaac Bashevis Singer in which a family meets an
execution death by an outlaw. The story focuses around the Grandma in the story who is completely
self–absorbed who, for example, prefers to think about her appearance then the possible deaths of
her family and herself: "(while driving in a car with her family) In case of an accident, anyone
seeing her (the Grandma) dead on the highway would know at once that she was a lady" (194).
Through a character dissection of the Grandma in regards to her relations with other characters and
her own actions, the theme of this short story, persistent and all–consuming selfishness leads to one's
downfall, is revealed. Grandma Bailey is the epitome of a self–absorbed human being who simply
cannot escape from the gravitational pull of her own self. June Star, a minor character whose role is
to allow the true nature of the Grandma to be revealed, states about why Grandma didn't go to
Florida, "She (The Grandma) wouldn't stay at home to be queen for a day" (194). One page into the
story and the nature of The Grandma is already being revealed. The fact that a described "little" girl
could recognize such a character trait in the Grandma and say it with such force indicates that the
Grandma is truly someone who is self–centered. The author descriptions involving the Grandma in
relation to the other characters also points to the narcissism. While describing the Grandma playing

The Singer Solution To World Poverty By Peter Singer
Singer Summary Peter Singer's argument over the immoral spending of the average American is
presented in his piece "The Singer Solution to World Poverty" through two analogies. He compares
both situations against each other, as well as to the real life situation of most Americans. His first
analogy involves a woman named Dora who delivers a boy for $1000 and then uses said money to
purchase a nice TV. However the boy's life is put in jeopardy and she is compelled to rescue the boy.
Singer introduces the idea that she could've spent that money on herself in many extravagant ways,
and states that many Americans do this already. He addresses that Dora is in fact unlike most
Americans in that most Americans do not directly cause the misfortune ... Show more content on

After paying off all of our necessities such as bills and food, all the funds we still have should go to
charity because it is the morally right thing to do, save lives. As stated by Singer, "whatever money
you're spending on luxuries, not necessities, should be given away." Narveson Summary Jan
Narveson's primary argument of feeding the hungry being morally optional under most
circumstances is represented in his piece "Feeding the Hungry" through many points, but the two
most important come early in the piece. Those two points being the difference between justice, as
well as the difference between killing someone and letting them die. To show the difference between
justice and charity, he defines the two terms. He defines justice as, "things which we may, if
necessary, be forced to do". He then defines charity as something that, "comes 'from the heart'". The
main difference between the two would be the reason why one would take action. With justice one is
compelled to right a wrong they have committed, for example, causing the starvation of people so
they must feed them. Charity on the other hand is not required of someone, it is an optional moral

This documentary had several interesting and well thought out points. Each of the philosophers had
very different approaches when it came to life. One of the first quotes of the documentary was, "The
unexamined life is not worth living." This quote was originally said by Socrates – a Greek
philosopher. The words were supposedly spoken by Socrates at his trial after he chose death rather
than exile. They represent the noble choice which is the choice of death in the face of an alternative.
One of the philosophers that projected themselves to me most was Peter Singer. Singer is a
philosopher mostly known for ethics. Ethics is about the basic choices that we make in our lives and
one of those choices is how we spend our money. He challenges people

America during the nineteenth century saw a rise of the modern middle class. With this came
dramatic changes in family dynamics. It can be seen that most middle–class American families
remained quite patriarchal throughout the 1900s, however, it was women not their husbands who
actually controlled the homes and tended for life at home. Due to this, I believe that the

Singer Sewing Machines"? What point is the company trying to make. After the 1880s, a rise in
immigration could be seen from Eastern and Southern European countries, as well as Canada and
Latin America. By 1910, Eastern and Southern Europeans made up 70 percent of the immigrants
entering the country. It is this mass of immigrants coming to America, potential customers, that
alludes to "All the nations Use Singer Sewing Machines." In essence the slogan is an example ...

Comparing The Portrait Of Sally Fairchild By John Singer...
For my term paper I decided to go to the Cantor Museum in Palo Alto, and I chose to focus on two
portraits of women from two distinct time periods. First, I decided on the portrait of Margaret
Blagge, Wife of Sidney, 1st Earl of Godolphin. This portrait was painted by the artist Matthew
Dixon in 1675, in the Baroque period of art. The portrait of Margaret Blagge was done in England,
and it was painted as an oil on canvas. The second artwork I chose to compare was the Portrait of
Sally Fairchild by John Singer Sargent. This portrait was done from the year 1884 to 1887 during
the Realism movement in art. The portrait of Sally Fairchild was painted in the United States of
America, and was painted as an oil on canvas. When comparing these two portraits ... Show more

Value is the relative darkness or lightness of a painting, and it assists in creating volume for a
painting as well. In Matthew Dixon's painting, the Portrait of Margaret Blagge, the value falls under
tenebrism. Chiaroscuro is the contrast between dark and light in a painting, and tenebrism is an
extreme case of chiaroscuro, with a violent contrast between dark and light. Dixon was able to have
Margaret Blagge stand out from the background by composing the whiteness of her skin directly
next to the darkness of the background. By using tenebrism, Matthew Dixon was able to achieve a
great deal of volume in his painting. Where the whiteness of Margaret Blagge's skin touches the
darkness of the background it is as though she can be lifted out of her frame. John Singer Sargent's
Portrait of Sally Fairchild, is different in comparison to Matthew Dixon's portrait, because there is
not much chiaroscuro in it. The most evident contrast between dark and light is the transition from
the shadows fallen on the left side of Sally Fairchild's body and her white skin. The contrast of
shadow to the face helps create the volume of her chin against her neck. Both paintings are different,
yet they both have a sense of volume, despite having used different

Singer Solution
Singer's solution: Are we obliged to give away all excess money? Singer in his essay "The Solution
to World Poverty" provides a solution for solving the issue of poverty by donating all excess money
for the needs of poor people. He urges readers that everyone, who have sufficient household income,
is required to give away all their unnecessary money to overseas aid organizations. Moreover, he
argues that if people fail to do so, they are living unworthy immoral lives (5). In this paper I will
argue that by giving extreme examples and information of aid agencies Singer makes us feel forced
in donation of excess money, whereas this action should be voluntary and it should not be
considered if we are not willing to give away all excess ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Singer in his book "The Life You Can Save" wrote that : "...when we spend our surplus on concerts

surplus on ourselves, on our pleasure and happiness, for us these luxuries are worth more than a
child's life. Singer tries to persuade people that they should give up extra money that they have in
order to help other people. He demands people to put interests of others before their own. His
argument is too extreme, because it is an unrealistic that people will sacrifice their all luxuries, to
which they are accustomed, to help to a

America Singer
The Selection, the award–winning book by Kiera Cass, takes place in a caste system and the main
character America Singer is smack dab in the middle. Her parents are performers and by birth she is
too, unless she marries someone in a higher social category. Unlike our society, she isn't idolized
like Beyoncé. She is more so the birthday party entertainer. The arduous life she has now, may soon
change with her recent opportunity. Although, America Singer is offered a life changing opportunity;
she immediately denies the offer to compete for the heart of Prince Maxon. In the competition, she
will be able to escape the life she was born into and be immersed into a world of glittering gowns
and priceless jewels. But, she is not only comfortable in her current social state but, she is in love
with someone in a lower class. Like America said, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

an aspect of falling in love. For example, America competed for Prince Maxon's love and Shane
found love with one of his fans, Anna. Contrastingly, throughout each book the moods and attitudes

Peter Singer Suffering
It is unfortunate that today's world sees so much suffering while those with the means to help
continue to withhold the means of salvation for many people. In this paper, I will examine whether
or not today's way of life needs reformation towards assisting others in great need and how Peter
Singer's principles of helping others is one to consider when we look at how today's societies value
the prevention of death and suffering in the world today.
Although our current way of life is in need of a revision in order to help others in need, I do not
believe in a drastic revision as today's societies already send aid to other countries and already have
an altruistic mindset. However, the issue that remains is that today's societies and people don't ...

In one premise, he states that we should only have enough money to satisfy the important needs of
ourselves and our dependents, and that the rest should go to charities and aid agencies dedicated to
helping those who are suffering. However, everyone in the world has different ideas of what is
important for themselves and their dependents. If a father wants to buy a pet for his daughter
because he believes it will help with her development, self–esteem, and other psychological reasons,
shouldn't he have the freedom to do so? Peter Singer's full argument would have you believe that we
should only be using our money for the necessities and donating the rest to charities and other
organizations, but what is important for one person may not be important for another. If a person
would be injured during the rescue of a child in the pool, doesn't it make sense that they should wait
for help so that they would not have to drown to save the child's life? In the revision of society
where more people are taught Peter Singer's principle of helping and only this principle, there would
be many people waiting to help. Therefore, it would put less burden on the ones who are helping
those in need and in turn, helping more and more people as their aid spreads. It's important for Peter

The Main Theme Of Animal Liberation By Peter Singer
The main theme of Animal Liberation by Peter Singer is summarized in one quote by Isaac Bashevis
Singer, "In their behavior towards creatures, all men [are] Nazis" (84). Singer spends the whole
book attempting to prove that Nazis and the abusers of animals are the same. He does this by talking
about scientific testing and the way animals are treated before being killed for their meat. He dives
into the specifics of what happens during animal testing and animals killed for meat in order to
appeal to the humanity of the reader in order to exploit it. By exploiting the humanity of the reader
Singer attempts to guilt the reader into becoming a vegetarian. Singer deciphers how the ability for
animals to feel has been used scientifically but never accepted. He cites scientific trials such as the
trials conducted by Gillette on rabbits. In 1986 an employee at the lab of Gillette released photos of
the tests on rabbits to see the toxicity and effect of the toxicity on eyes. The rabbits' eyes were
swollen and bleeding after having the ink put into their eyes. In another experiment pigs in England
were put into decompression chambers. The pigs were subjected to up to an 81 periods of
decompression in nine months. Experiments like these have caused large parallels to be drawn
between the treatment of the Jewish people in the Holocaust. In a similar experiment a Nazi scientist
placed a human into a decompression chamber and saw how they reacted. The scientists

Peter Singer's The Singer Solution To World Poverty
The Declaration of Independence guarantees everyone the rights of "life, liberty, and the pursuit of
happiness." In many ways, those "inalienable rights" are tied into many aspects of the stereotypical
American lifestyle. There is the idea of the American Dream, consisting of a nuclear family living in
a nice house with a white picket fence, a well–cared for lawn, and a car in the driveway. As we all
know this is a very atypical scenario for most of the planet. According to DoSomething.org, more
than three billion people live on less than $2.50 a day, with 1.3 billion of those people living in
extreme poverty, characterized by extreme poverty (less than $1.25 a day) ("11 Facts About Global
Poverty | Dosomething.Org | Volunteer For Social Change"). With such a large economical gap
shouldn't people feel more compelled to act up and donate money to a cause? This is the question
that author Peter Singer explores in his essay "The Singer Solution to World Poverty," with entails
people being radically philanthropic, giving away all money that isn't used on necessities. While this
method seems like the most charitable course to take, humans enjoy luxuries and do not care for
everyone equally. There are many moral dilemmas in which there is a deviation from what is right in
the utilitarian point–of–view and the morals that current society holds.
While it is important to look at Singer's specific argument, it is also important to take a step back
and look at where he is

Everyone should have the right to live a stable life with all the necessary essentials, which include
food, shelter, and medical care. Unfortunately, not every individual in our world has access to either
one or all of these essential life elements. In Peter Singer's essay, "Famine, Affluence, and
Morality", Singer emphasizes the importance of giving back to those who are less fortunate. Singer
in particular claims that those who are affluent individuals should feel morally obligated to donate to
humanitarian causes. In Peter Singer's piece, he goes explaining a various reasons as to why affluent
persons should be morally obligated to donate essential resources that could be used to aid
humanitarian causes. He goes on by saying that if we can prevent bad, we ought morally to do it
without making the situation. In one of his examples, he describes a child drowning in a shallow
pond. In the correct mindset, you would go into the shallow pond and save the drowning pond. You
will get your clothes muddy, but the muddy clothes is insignificant as the life of the child does not

Analysis Of ' The Eyes Of Regan And Singer '
The book Ishmael is about how a telepathic gorilla teaches cynical writer how to prevent the world
from destruction. Daniel Quinn chooses to use a telepathic gorilla to demonstrate the link between
nature and human kind. The need for this link is due to the separation of humans and nature caused
by human kind. The main idea of Ismael's philosophy is humans have taken our lives out the natural
order and laws. Humans have been destroying themselves for years, and the only way to survive is
to be connected one with nature. Individualism, in the eyes of Regan and Singer, is with each
individual being be treated with equality. Ishmael believes that each being should be apart of a
community.
In the following essay, I will argue how Ishmael's ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

have done is worthy in it's own right. Singer and Regan will be used to demonstrate the ideals of
Environmental Individualism.
Regan introduces his stance in The Case for Animal Rights on how we view non–humans as less
than the intrinsic value. Regan's mentality is about how we have this sense of value for each other,
and how we should translate that respect and value to others, like animals. We treat "immoral
humans" (criminals) with basic human respect (food, shelter, and hygiene). While, there are some
people that do not take care of animals with the same respect as we treat humans. Animals are a part
of the world that we live in, but we have grown used to seeing animals as lower than us. Regan's
viewpoint shows how we should see all beings as equals with inherent value. Regan sees this as part
of the Respect Principle, a principle where we treat individuals who have inherent value in ways that
respect their inherent value (322). His main argument is that everything has a subject–of–life
criterion. Subject–of–life criterion is the philosophy that everything is alive with inherent value.
Due to every individual, human and non–human, being alive with inherent value, Regan has a stance
against hunting for sport, and uses his idea of the rights view to battle against it. The rights view is

The article, "The Singer Solution to World Poverty," by Peter Singer provides the argument that
people are quick to condemn others about things that seem evil or monstrous without themselves
knowing that they indirectly do the same. Going out to eat at nice restaurants, buying brand name

was working just fine. So much of our income is spent on meaningless, or not essential to the
preservation of our lives and our health. The nuclear family in the United States spends about one–

would be slandered and not liked in the community. In the end of the movie she ends up saving the

He continues the argument by discussing about how family's in the United States spends almost a
third of its income on things that are unnecessary for our current circumstances and that are no more
necessary to them than Dora's new television was to her. Getting out of the house and going out to
nice restaurants, buying new clothes because the old ones are no longer in style, vacationing at
resorts in the Caribbean. So much of our income is spent on things not essential to the preservation
of our lives and health. Donated to one of many charitable agencies, that money could mean the
difference between life and death for children in need. If everyone in America donated ten dollars
off their annual salary, we could have donated 3.25 million to charities across the world. We could
be helping feed millions around the world.

Fox Vs Singer
The author, Peter Singer states that animals should be given equal consideration since speciesism is
wrong. The principal of equal consideration states that the like interests of any two sentient beings
are of equal moral importance. Also, speciesism is when one species takes the interests of itself or of
another of its members over the same equal interests of another species. On the other hand, an
opposing author, Michael Fox, states that animals do not have any rights because they are not a
member of the moral community which requires autonomy and certain capacities which nonhuman
animals lack. The moral community is a group of beings that are alike one another, that feel they are

Therefore, the current way we use animals such as food and experiments would be speciesism and
needs to change to allow animals to live a normal life. On the other hand, Fox believes that the way
we are treating animals is normal since they are not part of the moral community where they are
given rights. This makes Fox's argument difficult to support because it has many flaws regarding
what is considered a member of the moral community. The author states, "Even though other species
have not been systematically excluded from possible membership in the moral community, I have
not hesitated to characterize the central concepts that define the moral community in human or
humanly understandable terms" (Fox 186). This makes his argument hard to support because some
humans do not have all the capacities of other human beings, which means they would not have
rights or are considered a member of the moral community but are a part of the second layer of the
community. Of course, Fox states that senile people should be given rights because they used to
have those capacities, ill people should have it because they are like us and could have had them,
and people with mental problems should have rights because they share a similar kinship that other
species do not. Singer states, "The

Response To The Singer Analysis
1. What is the artist searching for? I think that this song is very much about decision–making, and
searching for the right answers. It is about the singer's stress to constantly make the right choices
and how the path they have taken may be leading them astray. 2. What are their beliefs? A sense of
spirituality is definitely present, but the specific beliefs of the singer are quite open to interpretation.
3. What has prompted the search? The search is prompted by someone being tired of always
choosing the wrong path or making seemingly bad decisions. By the end of the song, there seems to
be a more carefree attitude about life presented by the singer. This is demonstrated through the line

The Jazz Singer Essay
The Jazz Singer was the very first ever film made with sound that was created in 1927 and which
was directed by Alan Crosland and written by Samson Raphaelson. This film has the main character
which is Jewish along with his father, to ultimately make the decision of following the family
tradition and becoming a cantor or following his dreams and becoming a Jazz singing star.
The film The Jazz Singer presents itself as a director towards Judaism but also as the discipline of it
as well, which leads to the movie showing the Jewish experience and identity. It concentrates mainly
on the roles and practices of Judaism, instead of advertising itself. The protagonist of the movie is
Jakie Rabinowitz who is later known as Jack Robin, played by Al Jolson whose father is the Jewish
cantor of the town.
Jakie's father wishes for Jakie to follow in his footsteps but Jakie wishes to take the path of a Jazz
singer. Jakie's father had one day found out from Moisha Yudelsohn who is highly orthodox, that the
young boy was singing at a Jazz club and he wasn't pleased and decided to beat him because he

out of poverty, however don't agree that it would work in today's society and that we have to give so
much that we ourselves become close to the poverty line. The money that I am giving away could be

Before watching "The Jazz Singer", I had no idea of its cultural or historical significance. I learned
that it was the first motion picture to have synchronized dialogue and words. It set the precedent for

Samson Raphaelson. The short story was then adapted into an onstage musical in 1925 before

I don't think we can necessarily say that Jakie opposes these Jewish values in essence, but perhaps
he does because the tradition of his family is one that he is not particularly fond of. His father,
grandfather, and great grandfather have all been Cantor's at their local Synagogues. It's easy to see a
rebel in young Jakie. He is committed to his dream and he is looking for any way out of his current
circumstance. Jakie has probably been whipped by his father before but now that Jakie has direction
in his life, he takes advantage of the situation by fleeing from home and pursuing his dreams. Part of
the appeal of "The Jazz Singer" is that it is difficult to see a progressive maturation of Jack Robin.
Rather, we see an ambitious, sometimes blind performer whose "career comes before everything".
But then Jack is faced with a crossroads. He is to choose rather or not to finally step into the lime–
light he has so longed for. Truthfully, I did not know how Jakie would choose. He had been scorned
by his father time and time again and he had dedicated his whole life to jazz singing. But ultimately
I was not surprised at the choice Jack made. He did it for his mother. Though not traditional by any
means, there is a love story taking place in "The Jazz Singer", and no it is not between Jack Rubin
and Mary Dale. But rather between Jack and Sara, his mother. Sara takes on the role of the

World Poverty Not a Responsibility In the Singer Solution to World Poverty Peter Singer, a
utilitarian, discusses his view on world poverty and poses a solution. Singer brings attention to the
lack of food and medicine in many third world countries. He believes that it is the moral
responsibility of Americans to help end world poverty. In order to do this he says that Americans
should give up their luxuries and give most of their income which isn't used on necessities, to aid
those in need. However, he only focuses on hypothetical examples that may not apply to everyday

Philanthropy is something many are raised to believe is the "right" thing to do once they accumulate
wealth. While it is kind to help those in need or less fortunate than ourselves, it is not a requirement
for humanity. The main goal of landing a respectable job is the pay. Yet, Singer believes that people
should spend their extra income on helping and donating to the children of third world countries and
to achieve this he bluntly states they should give up luxuries. "That's right: I'm saying that you
shouldn't buy that new car, take that cruise, redecorate the house or get that pricey new suit. After
all, a $1,000 suit could save five children's lives" (4). Why work hard and not enjoy the fruits of
your labor? After all, that is the main motive for accumulating wealth. If Americans should only take
care of necessities, then why should they aspire to get jobs in finance? If living only comfortably
was the goal in life then there would be no need for most people to attend college, they could simply
land a job at McDonalds. Additionally, he ignores the poverty here in America. He uses examples of
children from other countries, but why help them when we can start right here in our own

Biography Of John Singer Sargent 's Life
John Singer Sargent began his life in Florence, Italy, on January 12th, 1856, and he grew up abroad,
as his parents became expatriates, leaving behind their home in Philadelphia to enjoy living and
travelling through Europe. It was because of this that Sargent's education was somewhat
unconventional, for his study was mostly informal, and this may have contributed to his singular
personality. Sargent's early exposure to European art and culture certainly had a profound effect on
him, and he was able to converse readily in French, German, and Italian through his travels. The
knowledge he gained through his life abroad proved to be quite helpful throughout his career, and
this exposure to such diversity would later become evident in his ... Show more content on

One of the best examples of Sargent's early style is his dramatic painting of 1882, El Jaleo, where
his emulation of Velázquez' use of light and color is especially apparent (Fig 1). Possibly the
painting in which Velázquez' influence is most obvious, however, is the painting The Daughters of
Edward Darley Boit of 1882 (Fig 2). Its candid arrangement, subjects, vast shadows, luminosity, and
muted colors bring to mind Velázquez' renowned painting Las Meninas (Fig. 3).
Although Sargent was creating and studying art during the 19th century art movement of
Impressionism, his art did not reflect this exposure, apart from some of his early works, and it is not
generally considered Impressionist; nevertheless, certain of his artistic elements do show that there
was some effect on his style from the artists of his time. One such characteristic of the Impressionist
movement is Sargent's compositional arrangements that are somewhat candid. Additionally, a
prominent feature of Sargent's art is his fascination with and masterful handling of light. Light was
one of the principles that was of greatest importance in Impressionist art, and their art was "in
reaction to the reflex of light, either real or imaginary." This definition of one of the aesthetic
principles of Impressionism truly encapsulates the work of Sargent, for, even in his earliest art, his
attention to light, its source – real or fairly

children deaths could be avoided through rich countries role in generating good things. Furthermore,
Singer illustrates that we are able to prevent bad things when the cost to you would be nothing
morally comparable. Thus, rich countries consist of the power and capabilities to prevent the bad
things including sufferings and deaths occurring in the poor countries globally with the cost of
nothing morally comparable. The money, technologies, and knowledge in the rich countries could be
used to prevent the deaths, sufferings, diseases, and poor housing living conditions happening in the
poor countries across the globe. In a weak principle proposed by Singer of preventing bad things
when the overall cost incurred would be nothing of morally significant, a clear insight is drawn on
the role of the rich to help those poor. The principle conveys how in the contexts of global hunger
and poverty, the rich countries continue to behave immorally by failing to help the poor nations
hence the need for a radical change on our ways of

The Jazz Singer

  • 1. The Jazz Singer The Jazz Singer, released in 1927, is a black and white film that centers on a young man who wishes to conquer his dreams in becoming a professional jazz singer. This film, directed by Alan Crosland, demonstrates new developments from the decade of the 1920's. During the decade, many new advances; such as the introduction of musicals and other technological advancements, were created. The Jazz Singer utilized these new advances of the decade and incorporated them into each scene. This is evident due to the elements of being the first talkie film, the introduction of the new musical genre and the introduction of the Hollywood stars system. By utilizing the new advances of the decade, Crosland's film, changed the way cinema would be seen ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The 1920's was the era of many new technological developments. Two major breakthroughs were the introduction of sound and musicals in cinema. In the early 1920's, musicals were very popular in the theatre and, especially, on Broadway. Therefore, once sound was introduced in films, it was only a matter of time until musicals would be introduced in films. The Jazz Singer is an excellent example of the introduction of both these elements. "The 1920's were Broadway's busiest decade, with as many as fifty new musicals opening in a single season. [...] With so much demand, it was a time of extraordinary artistic development in the musical theatre" (Kenrick). A musical is "a play or film in which singing and dancing play an essential part" (Definition of musical in English). Because Crosland introduced these elements into his film, he was the first to introduce musicals into the cinema field. "The huge demand for The Jazz Singer was unexpected, and caused other studios to begin to produce sound films of their own to capitalize on what at the time they saw as a fad" (1920s Movies). The introduction to sound and musicals on screen was such a big advancement at the time that other studios wanted to invest in the new technology. Finally, The Jazz Singer is a feature film that introduces the new Hollywood stars concept. In the early 1920's the Hollywood stars system developed; meaning that actors where ... • 3. The Usual Suspects By Bryan Singer: Film Analysis The 1995 film The Usual Suspects directed by Bryan Singer demonstrates the lifestyle of criminals whose decisions caused an explosion at the San Pedro Harbor, killing many men with few survivors. As police gather evidence about a recent explosion in the harbor, con man Roger Kint tells the US Customs agent the events that led up to the explosion. He starts his story when he and four other men, Fenster, Keaton, McManus, and Hockney, were in a line–up, then stuck in a cell together while waiting for bail. These men decide to plan a job to get revenge on the cops. All goes well until the mythical Keyser Söze becomes in charge of these men. Their criminal actions lead to a shoot–off in a boat which leaves 27 dead and few survivors. Although most of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... To explain, before committing a criminal act, a person makes a choice, weighing the positive and negative aspects of their action. If the criminal commits the crime, they rationalized that the positive aspects of their actions outweigh getting caught, or other things negative influences. Throughout The Usual Suspects, there were many instances where the characters rationalized a choice to commit a crime. Using the principles rational choice theory, occurrences of decisions to commit a crime can be analyzed to understand why the character thought the crime was a benefit. The first occurrence was when the five men were in a cell together and McManus suggested that they get revenge on the police by doing one last job. At that moment in the cell, all the men but Keaton were thinking about whether or not to join McManus. Possible costs they may have thought of could have included being incarcerated or failing the job while possible benefits may have been getting revenge for being the usual suspects of that police department. Keaton at this moment was noticing that the costs outweigh the benefits. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 5. Peter Singer Essay Peter Singer, an Australian philosopher and professor at Princeton University asks his students the simple question of whether they would save a drowning child from a pond, while wearing they're bran new pair of expensive shoes. The response was aggressive and passive "How could anyone consider a pair of shoes, or missing an hour or two at work, a good reason for not saving a child's life?" ¹ Singer continued to argue that " according to UNICEF, nearly 10 million children under five years old die each year from causes related to poverty." ² Is not saving a child drowning in a pond right in front of you the same thing as a child half way across the world dying in poverty? Peter Singer's response would be a big yes, he explains his way of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... We each have a right to buy anything we would like with our own money. Whether that right is a good decision how ever is something we must stop and question. " You may have a right to spend your weekend surfing, but it can still be true that you ought to visit your sick mother." Someone with all the money in the world could buy a new car every day, throw lavish parties, go on vacation once a month on a new jet plane and even throw tons of money into a lake, they have the right to do so with they're money! How ever coud this incredibly rich person choose to do other things with their money? " To choose to do these things rather than use the money to save human lives is wrong." ⁵ Singer insist that we should use our money wisely. In Singer's last argument he states a blunt and simple responce to Lucy's opinion on giving. " My aim is to convince you, the individual reader that you can and should be doing a lot more to help the poor." By having the right to controle your own money and because we were fortunate enough to live in such great economical conditions, we should work harder to help others that will never have the same chances. Lucy from Glennview High and Peter Singer make strong points on each side of the fence. I am all for Lucy's opinion in the sense that if a person works hard in life to earn their money, they have the right to spend it on themselves. I for one go to school full ... • 7. The Jazz Singer : The Jazz Singer The end of the 1920s was known for the ending of the silent film in Hollywood. With the advancement of sound technology, it has transformed the way we view films in today's world. It all began with a film called The Jazz Singer, directed by Alan Crosland, starring Al Jolson, Warner Oland, and May McAvoy. The film is about a little boy named Jakie, whose father is a Jewish cantor, and he defied his father by not wanting to follow the family tradition of cantors. He wanted to be a performer, specifically, a jazz singer. One day, he was discovered by his neighbor Moisha and thus he got beat up and kicked out of the house. Jakie vowed to never return home. A decade later, Jackie is a performer with the help of his lover Mary with a new identity by the name of Jack Robin who wears a black face when on stage. One night, his father fell ill and was asked to sing at the synagogue, however, it fell on the same day as his opening show on Broadway. Jakie had to make a tough decision choosing between his family or his career. The Jazz Singer was a big hit when it was released in 1927 by the Warner Bros. It became the first known film that featured a synchronized dialogue that ended the silent film era. Although the film was mostly silent, the film has some talking and several songs sung exclusively by Al Jolson himself. "At the very first Academy Awards, held in May 1929 and honoring films from 1927 and 1928, The Jazz Singer earned a special citation as 'the pioneer outstanding ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

One of the persons that most people like because of her own style of music is the Latin girl Shakira. Thanks to all the things she did as a child, and to all the things she is going to do, she has become a star that we, the people who know her, love. Shakira has done a lot of things since she was a child to become the famous person she is now. She was born in Barranquilla, Colombia on February second, 1977. At the age of 8, she wrote her first song, and by 13 she signed a record deal with Sony Music in Colombia, which resulted in her first album, "Magia" (Magic). She wrote all the songs ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Thanks to this album, she gained international fame since her two first albums were just sold in Colombia. Later, after a year, she released her fourth album, "The Remixes," which include some songs from "Pies Descalzos" in remix style. On 1998, she began to work with the Cuban producer, Emilio Estefan. While working with him, she recorded another album called "¿Donde Estan Los Ladrones?"(Where Are the Thieves?) Because of this album, she was called the "Latin Queen of Rock and Pop." Later on 2000, she recorded the "Unplugged Album" which was a mix of songs (sung in a mini live concert) from "¿Donde estan Los Ladrones?" and "Pies Descalzos" And this is all the work she has done to become a star. Shakira has planned to do many things for the future. "Right now, she is taking a break, but her next logical step is crossover the English Market" (www.geocities.com/ donde_ esta_ shakira/Menu/index.html). The singer Gloria Estefan, Emilio's wife, is helping Shakira to translate some of her best songs to the English language. She is planning to take over the American people, and I know that she will because of her great talent and own style. Another plan she has, according to the people who knows her, is to get married. • 11. Poverty By Peter Singer Poverty At any given moment, there are millions of people suffering and dying each day due to poverty. According to Peter Singer, there is much more that we can and should do to help create a better life for these people. Even a small act can make a big difference. Although, there are many people who disagree that it is our duty to provide for those in need for various reasons. I will argue that Singer's principle succeeds that it is our duty to help people in poverty. Singer's argument states that we have a duty to help the poor. He makes the obvious statement, in which most people agree with, that suffering and death due to poverty are very bad. His second idea is that if we are able to prevent that from happening without sacrificing ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The child will drown right now if one does not help him or her, while typically, giving to the poor will only help save lives in the future, not instantly. People also do not think they can compare because you are the only one to help the drowning child, while there are millions more who can help those in poverty. Distance has no impact on the importance of the situation. Singer responds by saying if "a person is physically near us... [it] may make it more likely that we shall assist him, but this does not show that we ought to help him rather than another who happens to be further away." (Singer, page 5) We should not deprive someone of help simply because of distance. Furthermore, we should not avoid helping someone just because there are several others who could do the same. For example, are we less compelled to help a drowning child if there are several other onlookers? If there are other people around us in the situation, we are still likely to jump in after the child. Singer points out that we may feel less guilty to give nothing if we have the ability to point out others who do the same. (Singer page 6) If everyone gave a small contribution, it would make a big difference to those in need. There is much more than what we already do to prevent suffering and death due to poverty without compromising anything of comparable significance for ourselves. • 13. Analysis Of The Singer Solution To World Poverty By Peter... Poverty in Children Peter Singer the author of the story "The Singer Solution to World Poverty" which talks about how humans are selfish and spend their extra money on luxuries instead of donating it to charities to help starving children. Singer rambles back and forth how greedy we are and tries to make us feel guilty for those innocent starving children. Children that we suddenly have to care about just because they're almost dead "Children" are the ones to care about in this situation instead of spending our money on whatever we want we have to spend it on children you might as well have children of your own if you're doing that. In a way when you donate money to a charity you're just giving up your extra but like having a child your giving up extra for others Why would I give my hard–earned cash to some five–year–old across the planet when someone closer and richer could do the same and let me be so I can enjoy my wealth. I agree but I also disagree with Singer that the starving children need to be saved, but I don't think this is the right solution to fixing the problem because it can cause more problems for everyone over a course of years. Singer is just trying to persuade us by saying "children are starving do something don't be selfish and keep your money on you it makes you look bad" I don't really see it as "bad" if you're being smart with your money and not greedy there's a big difference between the two and for even saying that I don't want to give my money to ... Peter Singer Sacrifice With many families in the world starving and/ or dealing with diseases they don't know how to cure, but with money provided they would be able to get it under control at least a start. Then we have the people in the states who are more worried about the fact that they don't have the newest iPhone, which note, is not a life or death necessity. How are we to justify the fact that we are able to spend all the money we have on unnecessary items and the people in North Korean or parts in Africa can barely or many not even be able to afford food for the day to survive. As Peter Singer states "We cannot dis criminate against someone merely because he is far away... When you ask yourself whether you're in the bind of being able to help starving kids or buying the newest up to date iPhone the first answer would be to donate, but many people see the relief organizations as a scam and wonder if they were to donate if the money would really go to the people they said they were going to. It is credited for ending the silent film era and pioneering new and creative ways to tell stories. However, silent films would still be made way into the 1930s, and Charlie Chaplin's Modern Times (1936) is sometimes described as the last silent film. People are often surprised to learn that The Jazz Singer was not the first film to use sound. 1926's Don Juan was the first feature–length film to use the Vitaphone for its sound effects and soundtrack, even though the film has no spoken dialogue. Peter Singer argues against animals cruelty, discrimination, and animals equal rights. Singer uses philosophy to teach and educate others on his point of view. Singer points out that animals have rights too and supports animals just like he does with Black Liberation, Gay Liberation, and Women Liberation. Singer states, "It is a demand for a complete change in our attitudes to nonhumans. It is a demand that we cease to regard the exploitation of other species as natural and inevitable, and that, instead, we see it as a continuing moral outrage." (pg.208) He supports the equal treatment of animals just like women did in changing societies views of work place and labor. Comparing Practical Ethics in the book with other stories, Singer tells the lifestyle about values and learning. To show the attitude and helping people built a communicating environment. Like the opposite of non–human as Ape uses the signing to communicate with people learning on human for chimpanzee on the behavior. He is upset by the lack of concern displayed by people in the more affluent countries and believes that people do not have a sense of moral high ground. This is when he passionately argues about how people are delusional with regards to the concept of famine, charity and duty. Singer's argument rests on various premises, however I shall tackle the premise where he states "if it is in our power to prevent something bad from happening, without thereby sacrificing anything of comparable moral importance, we ought, morally, to do it." • 23. Peter Singer Poverty According to the United Nations, a child dies of hunger every ten seconds. Likewise, millions of people worldwide live in poverty and do not know when they will eat again. While the typical American throws away leftover food, children are dying across the world from starvation. To put this into perspective: By the time you have started reading, a child has died of hunger. But who is to blame? According to Singer, you are. Bioethicist and utilitarian philosopher, Peter Singer, in his argumentative essay, "The Singer Solution to World Poverty," asserts that it is the individual's responsibility to save children in poverty. By providing a specific number, $200, Singer demonstrates how reasonable it is to save a child in poverty. Additionally, he repeats, "to save a child's life," which demonstrates exactly what a $200 donation could do for a helpless child. As an example, Singer references a credible philosopher, Peter Unger, and acknowledges that "by his calculation, $200 in donations would help a sickly 2– year–old transform into a healthy 6–year–old." Next, he establishes, "if you were to give up dining out just for one month, you would easily save that amount." Singer emphasizes this to show the reader how simple it is to save $200, and, more importantly, save the life of a helpless child. By repeating this number multiple times, following with "to save a child's life," throughout his essay, Singer implies a rational yet urgent tone in order to convince the reader that if they donate, they will save a ... As Singer retells many childhood stories in his memoir In My Father's Court, the idea and motif of forgiveness is constantly used as he witnesses his father perform many arbitrations. Singer also uses forgiveness as a central theme in his later adult work, as seen in his short story "A Crown of Feathers"; though it is evident through the story that his view on forgiveness had changed as he grew older. This realization came with growing up in a conflict–ridden Europe that culminated in the Holocaust. • 27. Rhetorical Analysis Of Peter Singer 's ' The Singer Solution Rhetorical Analysis of Peter Singer's 'The Singer Solution to World Poverty" From the streets of New York, to the mud homes in South Africa, poverty is a problem the world has been facing since the beginning. We see people pushing buggies full of items from their past lives, or we see children on the television struggling to survive due to the lack of food or clean water in their country. Yet, only a handful of us actually defend these children in a world that heavily depends on the idea that people should take care of themselves, rather than worrying about others. The world of poverty can be treated instead of neglected if we set aside that selfish–capitalistic mindset and use our time and money for our useless wants, to fulfil someone else's specific needs so that the future generations of children don't have to suffer in horrible living conditions. Singer, the author of this essay, prevails the idea of ethos, pathos, and logos during each explanation as well as showing his readers the idea that we as humans should do the greater good and live up to our ethical moral obligations in the society that we live in. Singer has the same views that most of us have when it comes to poverty and especially poverty in young children. He argues that if we can prevent something horrible from happening, such as the poverty of children in our world, without sacrificing anything of importance that is remotely comparable, that we should do anything in our power to do so. It analyzes on the physical, visual and aesthetics characteristics. In addition, it argues on the controversial output given by critics of the time as well as analyzing and comparing two interpretations of the portrait by art historians from the 19th century and the 20th century. Background of John Singer John Singer Sargent (1884–1916) was the portrait artist for rulers and the upper class in both Europe and the United States of America. He was considered the greatest painter of his era. In addition, he was born abroad and an expatriate in his life; he loyally supported all things English, but never renounced his American citizenship. Sargent's works reveal the individuality and personality of his sitters. Sargent was one of the last great Realist artists of his time. Realism was a reaction against Romanticism and sprung out of the toppling of the old order during the French Revolution. Do you believe non–human animals have the same or a different moral status to human animals? Explain the basis of your answer." More than three decades ago Peter Singer heralded the need for a new kind of liberation movement, one calling for a radical expansion of the human moral canvas and more importantly, a rejection of the horrors human beings have inflicted for millennia upon other sentient beings, treatment historically considered as being both natural and unalterable. Often regarded as being the father of the modern animal liberation movement, Singer contends that the campaign for animal ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Birth and death therefore cancel each other out whereas the death of an animal with a desire for prolonged life means that their death inflicts a loss for which the birth of another does not wholly atone for. (1993, p. 126) This Singer refers to as the 'replacability argument' which effectively seeks to draw a distinction between classes of sentient life forms. According to Singer, those animals which are not self–conscious are replaceable whilst those which are self–concious are not. If an animal is not self–concious then painlessly killing it and replacing it with an equally happy animal of the same species is considered to be morally permissible. However, if a human is self–concious then to painlessly kill one with a desire for continued existence and again replacing it with an equally happy human being would still be regarded as wrong. While practices such as factory farming are still regarded by Singer as being ethically indefensible, he concedes that there is no absolute moral requirement for humans to not eat meat so long as the animal "[has] a pleasant existence in a social group suited to their [behavioural] needs, and are then killed quickly and without pain." The story focuses around the Grandma in the story who is completely self–absorbed who, for example, prefers to think about her appearance then the possible deaths of her family and herself: "(while driving in a car with her family) In case of an accident, anyone seeing her (the Grandma) dead on the highway would know at once that she was a lady" (194). Through a character dissection of the Grandma in regards to her relations with other characters and her own actions, the theme of this short story, persistent and all–consuming selfishness leads to one's downfall, is revealed. Grandma Bailey is the epitome of a self–absorbed human being who simply cannot escape from the gravitational pull of her own self. The Singer Solution To World Poverty By Peter Singer Singer Summary Peter Singer's argument over the immoral spending of the average American is presented in his piece "The Singer Solution to World Poverty" through two analogies. He compares both situations against each other, as well as to the real life situation of most Americans. His first analogy involves a woman named Dora who delivers a boy for $1000 and then uses said money to purchase a nice TV. However the boy's life is put in jeopardy and she is compelled to rescue the boy. Narveson Summary Jan Narveson's primary argument of feeding the hungry being morally optional under most circumstances is represented in his piece "Feeding the Hungry" through many points, but the two most important come early in the piece. Those two points being the difference between justice, as well as the difference between killing someone and letting them die. To show the difference between justice and charity, he defines the two terms. He defines justice as, "things which we may, if necessary, be forced to do". He then defines charity as something that, "comes 'from the heart'". The main difference between the two would be the reason why one would take action. For my term paper I decided to go to the Cantor Museum in Palo Alto, and I chose to focus on two portraits of women from two distinct time periods. First, I decided on the portrait of Margaret Blagge, Wife of Sidney, 1st Earl of Godolphin. This portrait was painted by the artist Matthew Dixon in 1675, in the Baroque period of art. The portrait of Margaret Blagge was done in England, and it was painted as an oil on canvas. The second artwork I chose to compare was the Portrait of Sally Fairchild by John Singer Sargent. In Matthew Dixon's painting, the Portrait of Margaret Blagge, the value falls under tenebrism. Chiaroscuro is the contrast between dark and light in a painting, and tenebrism is an extreme case of chiaroscuro, with a violent contrast between dark and light. Dixon was able to have Margaret Blagge stand out from the background by composing the whiteness of her skin directly next to the darkness of the background. By using tenebrism, Matthew Dixon was able to achieve a great deal of volume in his painting. Where the whiteness of Margaret Blagge's skin touches the darkness of the background it is as though she can be lifted out of her frame. John Singer Sargent's Portrait of Sally Fairchild, is different in comparison to Matthew Dixon's portrait, because there is not much chiaroscuro in it. The most evident contrast between dark and light is the transition from the shadows fallen on the left side of Sally Fairchild's body and her white skin. He does this by talking about scientific testing and the way animals are treated before being killed for their meat. He dives into the specifics of what happens during animal testing and animals killed for meat in order to appeal to the humanity of the reader in order to exploit it. In many ways, those "inalienable rights" are tied into many aspects of the stereotypical American lifestyle. There is the idea of the American Dream, consisting of a nuclear family living in a nice house with a white picket fence, a well–cared for lawn, and a car in the driveway. As we all know this is a very atypical scenario for most of the planet. According to DoSomething.org, more than three billion people live on less than $2.50 a day, with 1.3 billion of those people living in extreme poverty, characterized by extreme poverty (less than $1.25 a day) ("11 Facts About Global Poverty | Dosomething.Org | Volunteer For Social Change"). • 57. Analysis Of ' The Eyes Of Regan And Singer ' The book Ishmael is about how a telepathic gorilla teaches cynical writer how to prevent the world from destruction. Daniel Quinn chooses to use a telepathic gorilla to demonstrate the link between nature and human kind. The need for this link is due to the separation of humans and nature caused by human kind. The main idea of Ismael's philosophy is humans have taken our lives out the natural order and laws. Humans have been destroying themselves for years, and the only way to survive is to be connected one with nature. Individualism, in the eyes of Regan and Singer, is with each individual being be treated with equality. Ishmael believes that each being should be apart of a community. In the following essay, I will argue how Ishmael's ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The animal rights movement and the progression, is because of individualists, and the work they have done is worthy in it's own right. Singer and Regan will be used to demonstrate the ideals of Environmental Individualism. Regan introduces his stance in The Case for Animal Rights on how we view non–humans as less than the intrinsic value. Regan's mentality is about how we have this sense of value for each other, and how we should translate that respect and value to others, like animals. We treat "immoral humans" (criminals) with basic human respect (food, shelter, and hygiene). While, there are some people that do not take care of animals with the same respect as we treat humans. Animals are a part of the world that we live in, but we have grown used to seeing animals as lower than us. Regan's viewpoint shows how we should see all beings as equals with inherent value. Regan sees this as part of the Respect Principle, a principle where we treat individuals who have inherent value in ways that respect their inherent value (322). His main argument is that everything has a subject–of–life criterion. Subject–of–life criterion is the philosophy that everything is alive with inherent value. Due to every individual, human and non–human, being alive with inherent value, Regan has a stance against hunting for sport, and uses his idea of the rights view to battle against it. He says we're rich and have to give mony to poor nations, and that we have to keep giving until we're dead. This is completely unreasonable, and I know Singer is wrong. Why? First of all, because he's just trying to make me feel guilty. What is he doing for world hunger. If he's not giving, I'm not gonna either. Jon Lock has a grate view, because he say that I got a propery right, which means if I earn my mony, I can keep it. And do whatever I want with it. Even burn it. Peter Singer Solution The article, "The Singer Solution to World Poverty," by Peter Singer provides the argument that people are quick to condemn others about things that seem evil or monstrous without themselves knowing that they indirectly do the same. Going out to eat at nice restaurants, buying brand name clothes because everything else isn't in "style", buying a new phone year even though the old one was working just fine. So much of our income is spent on meaningless, or not essential to the preservation of our lives and our health. He continues the argument by discussing about how family's in the United States spends almost a third of its income on things that are unnecessary for our current circumstances and that are no more necessary to them than Dora's new television was to her. • 63. Fox Vs Singer The author, Peter Singer states that animals should be given equal consideration since speciesism is wrong. The principal of equal consideration states that the like interests of any two sentient beings are of equal moral importance. Also, speciesism is when one species takes the interests of itself or of another of its members over the same equal interests of another species. On the other hand, an opposing author, Michael Fox, states that animals do not have any rights because they are not a member of the moral community which requires autonomy and certain capacities which nonhuman animals lack. The moral community is a group of beings that are alike one another, that feel they are bound to certain rules of conduct towards one another because ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Therefore, the current way we use animals such as food and experiments would be speciesism and needs to change to allow animals to live a normal life. On the other hand, Fox believes that the way we are treating animals is normal since they are not part of the moral community where they are given rights. This makes Fox's argument difficult to support because it has many flaws regarding what is considered a member of the moral community. The author states, "Even though other species have not been systematically excluded from possible membership in the moral community, I have not hesitated to characterize the central concepts that define the moral community in human or humanly understandable terms" (Fox 186). This makes his argument hard to support because some humans do not have all the capacities of other human beings, which means they would not have rights or are considered a member of the moral community but are a part of the second layer of the community. Of course, Fox states that senile people should be given rights because they used to have those capacities, ill people should have it because they are like us and could have had them, and people with mental problems should have rights because they share a similar kinship that other species do not. • 65. Response To The Singer Analysis 1. What is the artist searching for? I think that this song is very much about decision–making, and searching for the right answers. It is about the singer's stress to constantly make the right choices and how the path they have taken may be leading them astray. 2. What are their beliefs? A sense of spirituality is definitely present, but the specific beliefs of the singer are quite open to interpretation. 3. What has prompted the search? The search is prompted by someone being tired of always choosing the wrong path or making seemingly bad decisions. By the end of the song, there seems to be a more carefree attitude about life presented by the singer. This is demonstrated through the line early in the song that says "Time to save the ... • 67. The Jazz Singer Essay The Jazz Singer was the very first ever film made with sound that was created in 1927 and which was directed by Alan Crosland and written by Samson Raphaelson. This film has the main character which is Jewish along with his father, to ultimately make the decision of following the family tradition and becoming a cantor or following his dreams and becoming a Jazz singing star. The film The Jazz Singer presents itself as a director towards Judaism but also as the discipline of it as well, which leads to the movie showing the Jewish experience and identity. It concentrates mainly on the roles and practices of Judaism, instead of advertising itself. The protagonist of the movie is Jakie Rabinowitz who is later known as Jack Robin, played by Al Jolson whose father is the Jewish cantor of the town. Jakie's father wishes for Jakie to follow in his footsteps but Jakie wishes to take the path of a Jazz singer. Jakie's father had one day found out from Moisha Yudelsohn who is highly orthodox, that the young boy was singing at a Jazz club and he wasn't pleased and decided to beat him because he wasn't using his voice to influence people and pray to god as he does, Instead using it to sing which his father had ... Most of us are in a position to increase the total well–being by giving some of our own money and other items to increase the total well–being of others. I like Singers idea of giving some money to help others get out of poverty, however don't agree that it would work in today's society and that we have to give so much that we ourselves become close to the poverty line. Furthermore, wouldn't giving money away so that you're not close the poverty line yourself cause more problems since now there are two people at the line instead of one. Also, who is to say ... I learned that it was the first motion picture to have synchronized dialogue and words. It set the precedent for cinematography, live voice recordings, and real–time dialogue. The film was based on a short story written only a few years prior. The story was called "The Day of Atonement" and was authored by Samson Raphaelson. The short story was then adapted into an onstage musical in 1925 before finally becoming a full length feature film in 1927. The film follows a young man by the name of Jakie Rabinowitz. He lives with his mother and father in the Jewish ghetto of the lower east side of Manhattan. Jakie is an only child ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... I don't think we can necessarily say that Jakie opposes these Jewish values in essence, but perhaps he does because the tradition of his family is one that he is not particularly fond of. His father, grandfather, and great grandfather have all been Cantor's at their local Synagogues. It's easy to see a rebel in young Jakie. He is committed to his dream and he is looking for any way out of his current circumstance. Jakie has probably been whipped by his father before but now that Jakie has direction in his life, he takes advantage of the situation by fleeing from home and pursuing his dreams. Part of the appeal of "The Jazz Singer" is that it is difficult to see a progressive maturation of Jack Robin. Rather, we see an ambitious, sometimes blind performer whose "career comes before everything". But then Jack is faced with a crossroads. He is to choose rather or not to finally step into the lime– light he has so longed for. Truthfully, I did not know how Jakie would choose. He had been scorned by his father time and time again and he had dedicated his whole life to jazz singing. But ultimately I was not surprised at the choice Jack made. He did it for his mother. Though not traditional by any means, there is a love story taking place in "The Jazz Singer", and no it is not between Jack Rubin and Mary Dale. But rather between Jack and Sara, his mother. • 73. Singer Solution To World Poverty, By Peter Singer World Poverty Not a Responsibility In the Singer Solution to World Poverty Peter Singer, a utilitarian, discusses his view on world poverty and poses a solution. Singer brings attention to the lack of food and medicine in many third world countries. He believes that it is the moral responsibility of Americans to help end world poverty. In order to do this he says that Americans should give up their luxuries and give most of their income which isn't used on necessities, to aid those in need. However, he only focuses on hypothetical examples that may not apply to everyday life and fails to realize that it is not the duty of the average American to save the world. In his essay, Singer focuses on the two examples – Dora and Bob. He begins ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Philanthropy is something many are raised to believe is the "right" thing to do once they accumulate wealth. While it is kind to help those in need or less fortunate than ourselves, it is not a requirement for humanity. The main goal of landing a respectable job is the pay. Yet, Singer believes that people should spend their extra income on helping and donating to the children of third world countries and to achieve this he bluntly states they should give up luxuries. "That's right: I'm saying that you shouldn't buy that new car, take that cruise, redecorate the house or get that pricey new suit. After all, a $1,000 suit could save five children's lives" (4). Why work hard and not enjoy the fruits of your labor? After all, that is the main motive for accumulating wealth. If Americans should only take care of necessities, then why should they aspire to get jobs in finance? If living only comfortably was the goal in life then there would be no need for most people to attend college, they could simply land a job at McDonalds. • 75. Biography Of John Singer Sargent 's Life John Singer Sargent began his life in Florence, Italy, on January 12th, 1856, and he grew up abroad, as his parents became expatriates, leaving behind their home in Philadelphia to enjoy living and travelling through Europe. It was because of this that Sargent's education was somewhat unconventional, for his study was mostly informal, and this may have contributed to his singular personality. Sargent's early exposure to European art and culture certainly had a profound effect on him, and he was able to converse readily in French, German, and Italian through his travels. The knowledge he gained through his life abroad proved to be quite helpful throughout his career, and this exposure to such diversity would later become evident in his ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... One of the best examples of Sargent's early style is his dramatic painting of 1882, El Jaleo, where his emulation of Velázquez' use of light and color is especially apparent (Fig 1). Possibly the painting in which Velázquez' influence is most obvious, however, is the painting The Daughters of Edward Darley Boit of 1882 (Fig 2). Its candid arrangement, subjects, vast shadows, luminosity, and muted colors bring to mind Velázquez' renowned painting Las Meninas (Fig. 3). Although Sargent was creating and studying art during the 19th century art movement of Impressionism, his art did not reflect this exposure, apart from some of his early works, and it is not generally considered Impressionist; nevertheless, certain of his artistic elements do show that there was some effect on his style from the artists of his time. One such characteristic of the Impressionist movement is Sargent's compositional arrangements that are somewhat candid. Additionally, a prominent feature of Sargent's art is his fascination with and masterful handling of light. Light was one of the principles that was of greatest importance in Impressionist art, and their art was "in reaction to the reflex of light, either real or imaginary." This definition of one of the aesthetic principles of Impressionism truly encapsulates the work of Sargent, for, even in his earliest art, his attention to light, its source – real or fairly ... As depicted by Peter Singer the people in the rich nations have specific obligations of helping people in the poor countries. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The proposed principle on the need to generate good things when the overall cost of extending such good deeds would be nothing morally comparable depicts that the rich countries have a major implication in helping those residing in abject poverty across the globe. He demonstrates the importance of extending the good things to those suffering due to economic misfortunes without sacrificing morally comparable. With the rich countries residing in a luxurious ways, the poor countries across the globe witness millions of deaths especially among children. These millions of children deaths could be avoided through rich countries role in generating good things. Furthermore, Singer illustrates that we are able to prevent bad things when the cost to you would be nothing morally comparable. Thus, rich countries consist of the power and capabilities to prevent the bad things including sufferings and deaths occurring in the poor countries globally with the cost of nothing morally comparable. The money, technologies, and knowledge in the rich countries could be used to prevent the deaths, sufferings, diseases, and poor housing living conditions happening in the poor countries across the globe. In a weak principle proposed by Singer of preventing bad things when the overall cost incurred would be nothing of morally significant, a clear insight is drawn on the role of the rich to help those poor. The principle conveys how in the contexts of global hunger and poverty, the rich countries continue to behave immorally by failing to help the poor nations hence the need for a radical change on our ways of ...
