How does your media product
represent particular social groups?
Throughout my magazine, I have included ways and features that my media product represents different social groups.
Firstly, my magazine represents the social group gender. This is because throughout all my magazine both males and females
appear on my magazine. Therefore my magazine signifies how its targeting both genders and my target audience isn’t
segregating a particular social group.
Another way that my music magazine represents a social group is through age, and how all my images have people based
around the same ages of 16-17. From doing this it means, I am specifically wanting more people of that age to pick up my
magazine. Even though older people may still be interested in my magazine, genre and what it’s offering, I’m hoping that from
focusing my images on a specific age category it will achieve to attract within that age bracket and beyond. I decided to do
this because it gives a chance for my target audience to relate to the magazine more.
Further ways that my magazine represents a social group is through the particular outfits that my bands and artists have worn
for the images. They are wearing trendy and current clothing but it still links in with what genre of music they are about ‘Indie
Rock.’ This can attract social groups that are also interested in the latest fashion and trendy clothing. This makes my target
audience want to buy this magazine as they might want to aspire to be like them and one way could be through the way they
dress. By choosing specific clothing like this, its making my magazine and images within it look more sophisticated and
appealing for when it’s on a shop shelf.
My magazine also represent different social groups through using an informal writing style. This attracts my target audience as
it makes the magazine seem more relaxed for the audience when they pick it up and read it. By producing my magazine as an
informal style it doesn’t put the audience off as it’s not suggested as intense or overpowering for the audience as they read it.

How a music magazine represents social groups

  • 1. How does your media product represent particular social groups?
  • 2. Throughout my magazine, I have included ways and features that my media product represents different social groups. Firstly, my magazine represents the social group gender. This is because throughout all my magazine both males and females appear on my magazine. Therefore my magazine signifies how its targeting both genders and my target audience isn’t segregating a particular social group. Another way that my music magazine represents a social group is through age, and how all my images have people based around the same ages of 16-17. From doing this it means, I am specifically wanting more people of that age to pick up my magazine. Even though older people may still be interested in my magazine, genre and what it’s offering, I’m hoping that from focusing my images on a specific age category it will achieve to attract within that age bracket and beyond. I decided to do this because it gives a chance for my target audience to relate to the magazine more. Further ways that my magazine represents a social group is through the particular outfits that my bands and artists have worn for the images. They are wearing trendy and current clothing but it still links in with what genre of music they are about ‘Indie Rock.’ This can attract social groups that are also interested in the latest fashion and trendy clothing. This makes my target audience want to buy this magazine as they might want to aspire to be like them and one way could be through the way they dress. By choosing specific clothing like this, its making my magazine and images within it look more sophisticated and appealing for when it’s on a shop shelf. My magazine also represent different social groups through using an informal writing style. This attracts my target audience as it makes the magazine seem more relaxed for the audience when they pick it up and read it. By producing my magazine as an informal style it doesn’t put the audience off as it’s not suggested as intense or overpowering for the audience as they read it.
