4. What is POP ART?
• Pop art is an art movement that emerged in
the mid 1950s in Britain and in the late 1950s
in the United States.
• Pop art often takes as its imagery that which is
currently in use in advertising.
• It often uses images from comic books or
ordinary cultural objects too (example: the
hearts)

• Now that we looked at the work of pop artist
Jim Dine we can notice his symbolic themes is
the heart.
• His hearts do not look like the heart on a
valentine card.

– color varieties, contrast and painting style

• We will create a heart composition that shows
color contrast and no outlines
• Then if the contrast is not clear enough, we
will add value contrast with oil pastel.
