2. Our group has decided on using red, black and white as the colour scheme for
our horror film poster.
We have decided on these colours as they all have different meanings which link
well to the horror genre. The black will be used for the background and will help
to blend the dull image onto the poster. Black is often used in the horror genre
as it is associated with death, evil and mystery. It connotes fear and the
unknown. Having a black background will also help keep the focus on the title
and image. Combining black with bright colours, like red, is very good as they
contrast and create a very eye catching colour scheme.
We have decided to use white to make the text stand out over the black
background. White connotes purity and is considered to be the colour of
perfection. This is the opposite to our storyline. White is also associated with a
successful beginning. Like our film it starts off well and gets worse and worse.
We have decided to use red as our bright colour as it stands out well against
black and white and is strongly used in the horror genre as it is often associated
with danger, blood, death and power. As red is an emotionally intense colour
this will draw the audience in and make them want to see it. Red also brings text
to the foreground and is often used as an accent colour.
3. As a group we have decided to
keep the poster and magazine
colour scheme the same as this
will keep the consistency and
create synergy between the two
media products. This will also
make Ominous a recognisable
brand. However we thought of
maybe adding some gold on the
film magazine to avoid it looking
to dark. This front cover of Empire
magazine features a colour
scheme of red, white and black
but also uses a touch of gold to reinforce the fact it is a film
magazine and not a poster.
