1. In what ways does your media product use, develop or challenge the conventions of a real media product?
Uses Our media product uses the stereotypical conventions with the bimbo blond character. for example the main character 'Lindsey' doesn't notice the ghost and when taking a message from a phone she doesn’t pay much attention to what the message actually says 'you will die in seven days'. We used the typical conventions in our poster too. We noticed that horror movie posters are usually simple and not over loaded and we stuck to these conventions.
Develops We developed and challenged these conventions as we used an Asian character. This is different and unusual. Yet we thought it would work well with our cross-genre and add to out creativity. We also challenged the conventions in our poster as developed the idea of having a dark, mysterious background by adding a colourful image to symbolize our cross-genre. The colours black and red are semiotics that symbolize darkness and danger.
challenges In many horror movies we see that the character is mainly haunted during the night and while its dark as this adds to the effect. However we challenged this in an effective way as we did all of our filming during the day time and we still got the same effect and response.
