2. Colour Representation
Red – The colour red is very conventional in the horror
genre, especially in the teen/slasher sub genre. The
colour red connotes danger and violence, and in particular
blood. This enables and audience to instantly recognize
the colour red with the teen/slasher sub genre.
Black – The colour black is often linked with darkness and
dark themes, it also portrays a sense of mystery and the
unknown.
3. Existing Horror colour schemes
From the existing horror covers we can see a
conventional pattern of black, red and dark greys.
all of these colours are conventional and make the
posters look effective in creating a scary and
appealing image. Also the use of the white font over
the black background is very popular in these
successful covers. The covers psycho and sinister
are the two main colour schemes I’d like to
combine to create my own colour scheme.
4. Potential colour schemes
The bold red colour scheme connotes danger and blood,
the second colour would work better in my poster as it
a distorted effect and carries a sense of mystery which links
in with my trailer.
The bold black colour scheme connotes darkness which is
a main theme in my trailer. It is very common in horror.
However I believe the second colour scheme is again more
effective as it has a chilling and sinister edge to it, making
Suitable for my trailer.
The grey colour is a less conventional colour in the horror
genre, however I believe it gives my work an aspect of the
unknown and creates a sense of mystery.
