Freshman In Volleyball
One of my biggest fears as a Freshman in college is gaining the Freshman fifteen. So I decided to be proactive and join the volleyball team.
Volleyball is a sport that I relish and I find myself to be rather superior at. Earlier last week, I set up an appointment with Coach Dawn to examine
my volleyball skills, therefore I could get a spot on the team. Day in, and day out, I was perfecting my performance, therefore Coach Dawn did not
have to hesitate on choosing me to be on the team. When it was time for me to show off my skills I was beyond confident. We began running drills, I
missed a few serves, but I was still amped up to do more. Less than seven minutes into our practice she had me gather all the volleyballs and put them
in the cart.

Research Paper Topic–Rules and History of Volleyball
The History
In 1895, William G. Morgan, an instructor at the Young Men 's Christian Association (Y.M.C.A) in Massachusetts, decided to combine the sports of
baseball, basketball, handball, and tennis to make a game now called volleyball (at the time called mintonette).
He created this game for his classes of businessmen so that they could play a sport that demanded less physical contact than the sport basketball. He
used the net from tennis and raised it 6'6" high. At that time it was above the average man's head.
When a demonstrative game was being played someone pointed out that it seemed like the players were volleying the ball back and forth over the
net. They said that volleyball should be the name for the sport because it is more descriptive. So, Morgan then agreed that Volleyball is a better and
more descriptive name for the sport.

The Rules
Morgan came up with about ten rules when he created volleyball. The first rule, the game needs to consist of nine innings.
The second rule, an inning is when the person serving continues to serve until

Knocking A Volleyball: A Team Sport
Volleyball is a team sport that is played by two teams consisting of 6 players each on the court. Every player on the court is given a different job. A
game lasts about 90 minutes. Volleyball is a sport that requires proper nutrition, physiology, biomechanics, and the knowledge of anatomy.
A volleyball bump is also known as a pass. It is the first contact with the ball following a serve from the other team. The first bump is hit close to the
net, so that it can be set up for a spike.
1)There are three different types of muscles used while bumping a volleyball such as the shoulder, elbow, and knee muscles. The joint used in the
shoulder muscle is the shoulder girdle and the action you can do is elevation. When bumping a volleyball, the agonist muscles used are the upper
trapezius, rhomboids, and levator scapulae. While the antagonist muscles are latissimus dorsi, pectoralis major and minor, serratus anterior, and
trapezius. The bones used are the humerus, scapula, and clavicle. The deep muscle group that moves the shoulder are the rotator cuff muscles and
tendons. They control our ability to raise our arm from our side (abduction). ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The agonist muscles are triceps brachii (long, lateral, and medial heads), supinator, and anconeus. The antagonist muscles are the brachialis, biceps

the biceps tendons (attaches biceps to radius) and triceps tendon (attaches the triceps to the ulna). The two main ligaments are the ulnar–collateral

My Volleyball Game Analysis
This year my volleyball team was up and down the whole season, it was like a wooden roller coaster, rocky. We started out atrocious, we got better,
then it all went down hill. This worked out for the better since we all learned the consequence of partying when committed to a sports team. There
were certain parts of the season that specifically stuck out to me and impacted me the most. It was the week of August 22nd, 2017, and we had our
first tournament in Bad Axe, Michigan. Tensions were very high for all of us, and as the tournament progressed, we saw we had a lot to work on.
Between girls fighting on the court, to others not knowing where they were supposed to be, the tourney was a total flop like the schools food. We all
were discouraged and just wanted to go home and wallow in our own tears by time the fourth game came, but we stuck it out because our coach gave
us hope and encouragement. To our surprise, we ended up ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It felt like things were really looking up for us. Then, it happened. Two girls went to a upperclassmen party and posted pictures on social media.
The pictures were spread around and eventually got back to our coaching staff and athletic director. It was all the talk, of course. Everyone was
taken aback, but intrigued at the same time. Since when do freshman get caught doing things that normally juniors or seniors do? For the next week
it was like World War III was happening in the tiny town of Sebewaing. The consequences were not as severe as expected, but they still were not
pleasant. Our team was upset and did not know what we were going to do. We lost our other setter and were down to only 7 girls. In volleyball, there
are six girls on the court at a time, which resulted in little breaks for anyone. We had to change our whole rotation and everyone had to play different
spots. I had to be our only setter and it was definitely a

Counting down the seconds in a crowded dark hallway, listening behind doors to the song Welcome to the Jungle blasting in the gymnasium mixed
with the sounds of the crowds roaring. The only thoughts going through everyone's head, is that this might be the last time we ever play together
again. As soon as the song gets to the que we run out of the hallway under a tunnel made of arms, running into the moment that can make it or break it.
A timeless sport filled with –– rapid movements, sweat, anxiety, and team cheering –– volleyball is a sport that many underestimate. There are
countless people that say "Volleyball is a girl sport" or "volleyball is not even that hard". Also you may come across an egotistical varsity football
team that refuse to attend any volleyball games, because they are mad that varsity volleyball made it to state championships and they did not.
However, volleyball is a sport that requires intense drills, training, and a strong team bond. For instance if you do not dive right when hitting the
floor you can seriously injure yourself. I have had torn a ligament in my shoulder diving for the ball, because as a volleyball player you are taught to
always chase after a ball even if it means running into a wall. But the best and the greatest experience of all time is when it is a game day, or even better

Physics Of Volleyball
The Nature of Physical Activity
1.There are numerous fitness factors that are required for successful performance in the sport of volleyball. Using the data from Figure 1, identify and
analyse three major fitness factors utilised in the game of volleyball. When are these most likely to be used in a match?
Power is a crucial fitness factor in the game of volleyball. Upper body power is necessary in order to execute common volleyball moves such as a serve
or block but also higher velocity shots, for example, a spike which travel at an average of 112–128km/hr. However, to even have the chance to perform
a shot such as a spike or block, the player must have enough lower body power to jump and reach above the net.
On the other end, players require ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Progressive Overload – After about three weeks of training I will increase the intensity of our trainings to ensure that their anaerobic and aerobic
fitness is improving and will be at its peak when the championships come around.
Recovery – As a team expectation, players will have to take an ice bath after each training and then stretch and roll out their muscles with a foam roller
to maximise their muscle recovery by our next session.
Specificity – I am also going to identify each of my players' weaker attributes and create a training plan to improve it. For example, if an athlete is
struggling on their vertical leap then I will give them training to strengthen their calves and quadriceps.
4.Using a sport of your choice and applying the principle of periodisation, identify the three main phases of the training year. Elaborate on the
characteristics, in terms of activities, exercise, forms of training for each phase.
A premier league netball player's year is divided into three periods; the pre–season, the in–season and the

Muscular And Volleyball Exercise Analysis
One physical activity I participate in outside of school is volleyball. Volleyball covers multiple aspects of fitness, including, flexibility, muscular
strength, and possibly a few variations of endurance. Starting with flexibility, volleyball players need to be agile, have balance, and be quick to the
movement. When a ball is coming over the net as fast as it usually is, it is necessary that the player gets in the appropriate position to react to the ball,
whether it be in a low athletic position to get ready for an underhand pass, or if it be squatting down some bit with arms bent slightly in the air the
ready position for a set. Proper form is vital for a successful pass and overall well performance. Furthermore in the aspect of flexibility, ... Show more

Muscular strength is an overall area that is necessary to perform most, if not all, actions in volleyball, whether it be a controlled pass, accurate set, or
aggressive serve. If you have greater muscular strength, you will be able to exhibit a greater amount of force during a single action, therefore leaving
a greater impact. Suppose you are zone–serving to the back–left section, in order to have a vigorous serve to that specific area, you need to have good
muscular strength in your arms to get the ball there. On the contrary, now suppose you are on the defending side of the server and the ball is coming
at you. You need to get in a low position with your legs and be able to adjust as the ball approaches. Here, muscular strength in your legs are being
worked. This athletic–position stance also can cover areas of endurance, such as muscular endurance, since you are standing and holding a squat
position for an extended amount of time, and are most likely to move in a similar low position as well. Furthermore, cardiorespiratory endurance can
also be covered to some extent in volleyball. If the teams are matched up well, both sides will have difficulty scoring against one another and they will
play continuously for a longer period of time. Also, the game generally goes to 25 points per game, with multiple games in a match, meaning that
players are up and running around for some time. In general, volleyball covers many key aspects and components of

Lady Horns Volleyball Team
A lot of responsibility is placed in a person's hands when they are chosen as the team captain. You have to keep the rest of the teams heads up, and
make sure everyone is getting along on the court. It can be a struggle sometimes because the rest of the team looks up to you, and respect you. A
bunch of things can change how the team thinks of you, whether it be what you say or how you act. My senior year, I was team captain of the Lady
Horns Volleyballteam, and it is a year to remember. I will never forget that first game where our coach called me over for the coin toss. That moment
I knew I had to be mature, and keep my head up because I was a leader for this team. It can be really difficult at times to keep your head up and stay

many points got the rest of the team pumped, and we ended up winning that game. Even being the team captain I got sit on the bench quite a bit,
but it was all due to physical health issues. Even sitting on the bench I could not help but to stand up every time we got a point. Our biggest
rivalry game of the season I didn't sit down once, I stood over at the end of the row of chairs and cheered every single time we gained a point, and
even when we lost a point I would cheer the team to shake it off and to get the ball back. With all this going on we ended up making Forestburg
Volleyball history. Making it the farthest the team has ever gotten in playoffs, the Regional Tournament. We sadly lost our first game there, but when
the rest of the team was down from making simple mistakes, I kept my head up, and did my best to try and cheer them up, and that was our toughest
loss of the season. I am proud of my team though, we played absolutely amazing this year, and made history! I can't wait to come back and watch the

The place where I shine. Wood floors, loud whistles, bright lights, yelling coaches, two teams, one goal. The place where everything seems to make
sense, where I feel most at home, a volleyball court. Playing volleyball for the past seven years has taught me more about building relationships and
friendships with teammates and coaches, life in general but most importantly, more about myself than I could have ever imagined. Sharing 30 by 30
feet of floor with 6 other people doesn't seem like a difficult task to most, but it takes communication, discipline, strategy and heart from every player on
that court. Learning how to stay mentally tough when your team is down and remembering to not get cocky when you're killing your opponent.

Once I began playing volleyball, I felt like I finally belonged to something. Being apart of the volleyball community has truly shaped me into the
person I am today. It has brought out qualities in me that I never knew I had. I never cared about winning or losing before volleyball, now I am the
most competitive person you'll meet and I'm not having fun if my team is not performing well and winning, it is who I am. Last year my team
received a bid to the National Qualifier for finishing first in a tournament in Reno, Nevada. The butterflies before the big game, the shaking hands
as we warmed up and the intense plays all throughout the game made the feeling of winning that game so much sweeter. Jumping for joy with my
sisters because together, we achieved our goal, we won. No one cared how their hair looked or what their plans for next week were because everyone
was so overcome with joy. That is my happy place, that is what I live for. Once, a coach asked us; "Do you play for the fear of losing or for the joy of
winning? Because that shows what kind of player you are". I have no doubt in my mind that I am a player that plays for the joy of winning. I will be
the first to 25 and I will leave a mark in my opponents head so they never want to play my team

certain ways of communicating with one another, relaying information, and using common speech or terms that everyone in the group understands.
Being part of different discourse communities can help develop different writing styles and skills. A non–school discourse community that helped me
develop as a writer was volleyball. There are many aspects to volleyball that a player has to understand: the common goals, the rules, and the
terminology. Being a part of the volleyball discourse community, I was able to get a job at the University of North Georgia as a volleyball referee.

In volleyball, there are set rules that every player must follow. Teams have different methods to help their players understand the rules. Some teams
memorize them and have "tests", others learn from experiencing the rules while playing. The exigence behind learning the rules is so that the player
knows how to play the game as an individual and as a team. Knowing the rules of volleyball is essential for a well–functioning team. Along with the
rules, a player must understand the terminology used consistently throughout the experience.
Every sport has their own terminology and language that only players of that sport understand. In volleyball it is important to know the terms used.
The terminology that a volleyball player first learns are: pass, set, hit, kill, double, serve, and the positions on the court. Every player's exigence for
knowing and understanding the terms is for the player's and team's success. Without the knowledge of the terms used, a player will not comprehend
what is going on, what plays are being made, or what the referees are expressing.
My experience with volleyball gave me the opportunity to have a job at UNG, as an intramural volleyball referee. Being a referee is not an easy task.
Along with the terminology used by the players and coaches, there is a different set of terminology for referees. Every referee must learn a set of hand

The basic setup for a casual volleyball game consists of typically twelve players spread across two sides of a court with a net separating each team
equally in space. Teams usually form two rows of three to evenly distribute players on their side of the court. The goal the game is to receive the
ball from the serving side and return it over the net to the other side of the field without the ball being passed back. Moreover, the ball must not be
touched by the same player more than once consecutively and the ball must be passed over the net by the third touch of the ball. The serving team is
awarded a point if the receiving team fails to return the ball within the three–hit maximum, keep the ball from coming in contact with the court floor, a
player touches the ball twice consecutively, or if the ball is returned but lands out of bounds (Levinson and Christensen 437). The rotation for any team
must be clockwise, so a player in the right–back most position of their side of the court would serve first then the right–front most player would serve
next after rotation (Boga 53). Additionally, players may not touch the net. This rule is very important when a player is spiking or blocking
because they will be very up and close to the net. Every player is required to be in their position of rotation before the ball is served. After the ball is
served, however, a player is allowed to move freely within his or her side of the court. Lastly, a game is won when a team has 25 points, or 15 points
for shorter games, and the opposing team trails by at least two points (Levinson and Christensen

not good because you have to have upper body strength and leg strength to jump. Now the disadvantages, the first one is injurious. Injuries can
happen really easily in volleyball because you are jumping a lot and you slide all over the court and sometimes that can end up with a bad injury.
Sometimes when you're sliding you can hurt your knees like popping them out of place or getting a burn. You can also hurt people on the other team
by hitting the ball too hard or just hitting it in the wrong way. You may accidentally run into someone and injure both you and your teammate now
you might not mean it, but it might end up in you both sit out. You also slip and fall and injure your elbow or chest. Next disadvantage is it can be
expensive. Volleyball clubs and sometimes school volleyball can extremely expensive and sometime people can't afford it and the really sad because
they can't play just because of price. Sometimes people have the money in the beginning and then they might have something happen and then they

Reflection Paper On Volleyball Player
This Club season, I would like to improve my knowledge of the sport, understand how to be a supportive teammate, and develop into a better and more
experienced volleyball player.
The position I enjoy the most is the outside hitter. I am fond of this position because I am not only a skilled and talented hitter, but I am also useful in
backrow. Therefore, an outside hitter is my desired position because I believe this is where I would be the most useful to the team.
I would absolutely consider playing another position because I desire to support my team in anyway the coaches see fit.
A position I am not willing to play is right side hitter because in a previous club season, I was placed in that position and I did not get much playing
time and I felt as though I was not benefitting my team in any way. Also, I enjoy passing in the backrow and the position of right side hitter is only a
front row position.
My grade point average is a 98.75. My grades currently range from a 97–100%. School is a very big aspect of my life and my goal is to continue to
move forward in my studies.
On average, I study anywhere from one hour to three hours a night causing me to have plenty of free time that could be used more productively.
I am motivated by goals and I feel it is very important to set goals for yourself in every aspect of your life. I am also motivated by rewards and my
personality causes me to want to fulfill all of the potential possible for me.
My motivation increases when I am being supported by the people around me because then I will not want to let them down. My parents also
motivate me to do my best because they have set a very high expectation for me, causing me to work for what I want. Yelling and fear of failure both
decrease my motivation. When I am in an environment that I feel comfortable in, my motivation will increase, however, if I am in a space where I
feel judged, I tend to not be motivated.
I have led by example when I tell the truth instead of taking the easy way out, when I take credit for my actions and not sabotage my teammates. I
also lead by example when I listen to and follow instructions as well as when I am persistent and determined to reach a goal or support my teammates.
One goal for

Volleyball Tryout Essay
It was the day of volleyball tryouts. I was obviously pretty nervous as most should be, but it was way more than that. But something about this
current volleyball tryout felt good. Very good. It all started the night before. I can not explain how many volleyball related Youtube videos I
watched. I even tried a whole week of just vegetables but I could not live with eating brussel sprouts for my main dish. I ran 2 miles. Anything I did,
it just did not seem like enough! The worst part was I couldn't even sleep. Probably the most important thing of getting ready for tryouts tomorrow. In
fact, I tried something called green tea. I know what you're thinking,"Didn't work?" Nope! I just layed in bed thinking about how I would react if...

Everybody was shocked considering that we weren't members of team just yet. For once. She divided us into 2 groups. The inexperienced volleyball
players and the experienced players. Instead of putting me on the inexperienced volleyball side she put me and few other girls on the experienced
side. I was so nervous, I felt like fainting just like in the movies. Right now, I realized I should not be intimidated, I was pretty taller than them. But
they were better volleyball players than me that's for sure! I was playing front row meaning I had to block the opponent's spikes. I was very scared
thinking I would do better back row. As we started, the balls were coming towards the back row. But sadly my luck didn't last for long. A ball came
right towards me. I wasn't expecting it but instead blocking it from coming over to our side. I used my hands to block my face. I sighed in sadness,
hoping the coach wasn't looking. Many balls had went to straight towards me again. At least they had been saved. But this was the final match point.
We were at a tie of 24–24. Our "team" had got into a circle. One of the girls named Mackenzie got everyone to look at me. She finally said
"Hadassah, nobody is mad at you this your first tryout. This last point will probably end up coming to you as well. Try to imagine you are playing at the

Volleyball In Middle School
Throughout the duration of middle school, I had always engaged in played volleyball. When middle school was over, I spent my whole summer at
volleyball workouts at the high school, because it was something that I really did take pleasure in doing. I went every time, without exception, when
they were offered. When it came time for tryouts, I felt that it was unquestionable that I had made the team, because I had played before. In life,
however occasionally the plans that you make for yourself don't work out. I didn't make the team and it bothered me to start with. I knew that I still
wanted to play volleyball, but not being able to play wouldn't be the end of my world. The following days I began to look around online at some
places in the area that would entitle me to still play volleyball. I had heard a lot of people talk about Carolina Courts and their team, which is called
Peak. So I really wanted to try playing there. They had tryouts in two weeks and I thought it wouldn't hurt me if I tried. A majority of the girls that

girls, and talking to a lot of people that I'm unfamiliar with is out of my comfort zone. Over the next practices I became really close friends,
especially with Avery. It wasn't long before our first game, and not only did I have new friends, and was starting, but I was the caption over my team

Memoir What do you think when you hear volleyball; serve, bit, pass, net and ball. It's so much more than that it's aggression, passion, oomph, uphill

After the game finished I headed to my little brother's football game. Later we headed home and as I headed towards my room my mom said, "Wait."
I turned around with anger written all over my face.
"What's happened at the game when you came out?" she asked. I pierced my lips, then spoke, "When we were playing we were out of rotation and
one of my friends who was in the setter's position typically isn't comfortable playing setter so I was asking her if she wanted to switch." I replied,
"Then when I came out she started to yell at me to stop yelling at my teammates and then when I told her we were out of rotation she told me to stop
blaming my teammates. Then she said if I don't stop talking back, she would bench me the next game." She thought for a minute, then said, "Okay." "I
hate having her as a coach," I retorted. I made a fist at the thought of her.
She said, "Either you love volleyball or you don't the coach doesn't matter," she replied. At that moment I knew that I love volleyball and I love to

Volleyball as a Subculture
Does Society "Dig" Volleyball as a Subculture?
I.
Introduction
The individuality within diverse subcultures has given so much to society already.
Subcultures such as volleyball have been given a chance to grow in our society and spread to other cultures connecting nations across the globe. It
takes time for a subculture to be accepted by our society today. Once it is accepted, membership in subculture grows as more people feel comfortable
joining a mainstream subculture such as volleyball.
However, to be a part of this particular subculture there are a few guidelines and some complicated jargon. Perhaps, since volleyball is not a subculture
that greatly defies social norms, it may not be stigmatized or critically stereotyped by ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
A set is done, as already mentioned, over the player's head with two hands slightly spaced apart. Then, the players and opponents repeat the actions as
such: bump, set, spike.
I became of part of this subculture when I was in 3rd grade, but became a serious member in 7th grade when I played with a competitive volleyball
team. We would meet to practice for about an hour everyday, and we would play other opponents once a week.
The longer I was a part of this subculture, the more involved I became with it, and the more serious I became about being a part of the group.
III.
Subculture Analysis
As a leisure sport, volleyball is part of the middle class society, where most
Americans tend to consider themselves falling in the social class system. Volleyball interests most middle school and high school girls, but little
interest is shown by boys of that age. I was personally a part of the subculture of volleyball involving middle school and high school girls. Participating
in this subculture proves athleticism and strength.
Also, being a member of the subculture can give the individual a feeling of responsibility and success, helping to gain confidence in themself.
Volleyball is part of the mainstream culture, mostly popular among girls. As many schools only have women's teams, men are a minority in the
subculture, even though the game was designed originally for men. Also, because the subculture involves physical activity

Communication In Volleyball Essay
It is the fifth match against our rival team They are up by one and need one more to win. If we do what we are suppose to do and communicate, we
have a sure thing of winning this game. The opponent's side serves the ball and it goes straight to what I can say is the weakest link on the team. The
player right beside her knew she could not get the better angle on the ball, so she called her off and passed the ball to the setter. The setter set it up to
the hitter and BOOM! Kill. From everyone communicating, we are now tied with the other team. Although volleyball needs a lot of other important
aspects, the biggest thing a team needs to have is communication. To be successful in volleyball it requires speed, agility, and teamwork or, in other
words, communication. Whether a person is an experienced or inexperienced player, good players know that there is always room for
improvement(Communication). Developing from an average player to a good player demands patience, dedication and a focus on improving skills.
Learning which areas of the game could use a little work can also help develop a person as a player(Communication).
In a personal interview, a volleyball player from Moody High School, Kayley Hale, explained what she thought was required to become a successful
volleyball team. For example, she said, "I believe it takes teamwork, communication and work ethic to have a very successful volleyball team. Our
team communicates and uses teamwork every game, making sure that everyone knows who has the ball and where it is at all times possible. If we
did not do that we would not be 6–0 in district right now." Volleyball is a unique sport in that it requires teammates to constantly communicate vocally
with one another. There are three aspects of communication that are super important in any circumstances: knowing what you are trying to
communicate about, speaking clearly in a language that people can understand, and keeping your words quick and specific(Speak Up). While teams
may have set plays, they still need to respond correctly to rapid changes in a game situation if they expect to win or do good. Communication is one
of the most crucial skills for a volleyball team to have.
During matches, volleyball players

Volleyball
Volleyball was created in the United States, but is now played in 211 countries around the world. William G. Morgan, the inventor, created a mix of
basketball, baseball, tennis, and handball to make volleyball. Volleyball is a game played by two teams. A ball is hit by hand over a high net. To
score a point you must make the ball reach the ground on the opponent's side of the court.
There are many rules in volleyball. Some basic rules are, that there are six people on a court at a time. Three players are the front row players and
three of them are the back row players. The ball must hit the floor on the opposite team to score a point, and the team rotates places.

It is very important that skills are maintain and focus when giving it all you got on a match. That is why volleyball drills or also known as practices

offensive attackers such as the outside hitter, middle hitter, and right side hitter know when to jump and spike while analyzing the spot to hit the ball.
The fundamental skills of volleyball will enable coaches and players to provide efficient and effective teamwork as they communicate with one another.

Volleyball : The Best Beach Volleyball Olympian Team
The Undefeatable Duo: Misty May–Treanor and Kerri Walsh
People have this weird assumption that volleyball is a sport anyone can play. Some believe that volleyball is an easy, girly sport women play just to
wear spandex. Guys only go to watch their butts. Meanwhile, volleyball is an Olympic sport. It is broken in between a six woman team, as well as beach
volleyball. Beach volleyball is way harder because you only have two people; communication is key. Two women came from two different lives
chasing the same dream and became the undefeatable duo. Instead of people trying to put down volleyball; they should support those pursuing what
they love. "The advice I will give my children, if and when they have Olympic aspirations, will be to go for it"–Kerri Walsh. Misty May and Kerri

Indoor and Beach Volleyball have gained immense popularity over the years. They're both very fun sports that anyone at any age can enjoy. Although
most people would think both sports are the same, the truth is they are very different. The environment, rules of play and the collegiate opportunities
that many players have are a few of the main components that separate these sports. Indoor volleyball was invented in Holyoke Massachusetts by
William G. Morgan on February 9, 1895. Originally, the sport was known as "Mintonette" until it was changed a year later to "volleyball" which it is

I wish I would have tried so much harder, I know now that I could have done it, if I just did not give up. I regret letting myself give up, instead of
pushing through their comments, and looks. I should have worked as hard as possible, I should have shown them up and proved to them and
myself that I did belong their, and that I was a great volleyball player just like they were, they never gave me the chance to show them, they
automatically hated me from day one, which made it all the more hard for me, how could I of wanted to stay there, around people everyday who I
knew had so much dislike for me. I regret not having the confidence to stick through it. I knew the potential I had and I should have worked so
hard to get it back, I should have went back their my senior year I should have played club volleyball over the winter, to get help with getting my
strength and skills back, but instead I gave up on it all together, and it haunts me everyday. I wish I could go back to my beginning of my junior
year and tried harder, and ignored everyone's mean taunts, I should not of let them break me into giving up on my dreams. I would do anything to
have it back, I would do anything to still be able to live my dreams of playing at the University of Nebraska. I wish I could tell the younger me to
never give up on her dreams no matter how hard they may get.
What I have learned from this, is to never give up, to push through any barriers there may be in life. To never care what anyone thinks about me, only
my own opinion about myself matters. I'll never let someone else make me run from my dreams, never give up because anything in life is possible if

Freshman In Volleyball

  • 1. Freshman In Volleyball One of my biggest fears as a Freshman in college is gaining the Freshman fifteen. So I decided to be proactive and join the volleyball team. Volleyball is a sport that I relish and I find myself to be rather superior at. Earlier last week, I set up an appointment with Coach Dawn to examine my volleyball skills, therefore I could get a spot on the team. Day in, and day out, I was perfecting my performance, therefore Coach Dawn did not have to hesitate on choosing me to be on the team. When it was time for me to show off my skills I was beyond confident. We began running drills, I missed a few serves, but I was still amped up to do more. Less than seven minutes into our practice she had me gather all the volleyballs and put them in the cart. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 2. Rules And History Of Volleyball Independent Research Project Page 1 Computers By:Addy Normand (Adrena) Research Paper Topic–Rules and History of Volleyball The History In 1895, William G. Morgan, an instructor at the Young Men 's Christian Association (Y.M.C.A) in Massachusetts, decided to combine the sports of baseball, basketball, handball, and tennis to make a game now called volleyball (at the time called mintonette). He created this game for his classes of businessmen so that they could play a sport that demanded less physical contact than the sport basketball. He used the net from tennis and raised it 6'6" high. At that time it was above the average man's head. When a demonstrative game was being played someone pointed out that it seemed like the players were volleying the ball back and forth over the net. They said that volleyball should be the name for the sport because it is more descriptive. So, Morgan then agreed that Volleyball is a better and more descriptive name for the sport. Page 2 The Rules Morgan came up with about ten rules when he created volleyball. The first rule, the game needs to consist of nine innings. The second rule, an inning is when the person serving continues to serve until ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Knocking A Volleyball: A Team Sport Volleyball is a team sport that is played by two teams consisting of 6 players each on the court. Every player on the court is given a different job. A game lasts about 90 minutes. Volleyball is a sport that requires proper nutrition, physiology, biomechanics, and the knowledge of anatomy. A volleyball bump is also known as a pass. It is the first contact with the ball following a serve from the other team. The first bump is hit close to the net, so that it can be set up for a spike. 1)There are three different types of muscles used while bumping a volleyball such as the shoulder, elbow, and knee muscles. The joint used in the shoulder muscle is the shoulder girdle and the action you can do is elevation. When bumping a volleyball, the agonist muscles used are the upper trapezius, rhomboids, and levator scapulae. While the antagonist muscles are latissimus dorsi, pectoralis major and minor, serratus anterior, and trapezius. The bones used are the humerus, scapula, and clavicle. The deep muscle group that moves the shoulder are the rotator cuff muscles and tendons. They control our ability to raise our arm from our side (abduction). ... • 4. My Volleyball Game Analysis This year my volleyball team was up and down the whole season, it was like a wooden roller coaster, rocky. We started out atrocious, we got better, then it all went down hill. This worked out for the better since we all learned the consequence of partying when committed to a sports team. There were certain parts of the season that specifically stuck out to me and impacted me the most. It was the week of August 22nd, 2017, and we had our first tournament in Bad Axe, Michigan. Tensions were very high for all of us, and as the tournament progressed, we saw we had a lot to work on. Between girls fighting on the court, to others not knowing where they were supposed to be, the tourney was a total flop like the schools food. We all were discouraged and just wanted to go home and wallow in our own tears by time the fourth game came, but we stuck it out because our coach gave us hope and encouragement. Everyone was taken aback, but intrigued at the same time. Since when do freshman get caught doing things that normally juniors or seniors do? For the next week it was like World War III was happening in the tiny town of Sebewaing. The consequences were not as severe as expected, but they still were not pleasant. Our team was upset and did not know what we were going to do. We lost our other setter and were down to only 7 girls. In volleyball, there are six girls on the court at a time, which resulted in little breaks for anyone. We had to change our whole rotation and everyone had to play different spots. I had to be our only setter and it was definitely a ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. Descriptive Essay About Volleyball Counting down the seconds in a crowded dark hallway, listening behind doors to the song Welcome to the Jungle blasting in the gymnasium mixed with the sounds of the crowds roaring. The only thoughts going through everyone's head, is that this might be the last time we ever play together again. As soon as the song gets to the que we run out of the hallway under a tunnel made of arms, running into the moment that can make it or break it. A timeless sport filled with –– rapid movements, sweat, anxiety, and team cheering –– volleyball is a sport that many underestimate. There are countless people that say "Volleyball is a girl sport" or "volleyball is not even that hard". Also you may come across an egotistical varsity football team that refuse to attend any volleyball games, because they are mad that varsity volleyball made it to state championships and they did not. However, volleyball is a sport that requires intense drills, training, and a strong team bond. For instance if you do not dive right when hitting the floor you can seriously injure yourself. I have had torn a ligament in my shoulder diving for the ball, because as a volleyball player you are taught to always chase after a ball even if it means running into a wall. But the best and the greatest experience of all time is when it is a game day, or even better yet the last game that can determine your title in Norcal Championships. Norcal Championship finals is the game that all 14 teams strive for during the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 6. Physics Of Volleyball The Nature of Physical Activity 1.There are numerous fitness factors that are required for successful performance in the sport of volleyball. Using the data from Figure 1, identify and analyse three major fitness factors utilised in the game of volleyball. When are these most likely to be used in a match? Power is a crucial fitness factor in the game of volleyball. Upper body power is necessary in order to execute common volleyball moves such as a serve or block but also higher velocity shots, for example, a spike which travel at an average of 112–128km/hr. However, to even have the chance to perform a shot such as a spike or block, the player must have enough lower body power to jump and reach above the net. On the other end, players require ... Progressive Overload – After about three weeks of training I will increase the intensity of our trainings to ensure that their anaerobic and aerobic fitness is improving and will be at its peak when the championships come around. Specificity – I am also going to identify each of my players' weaker attributes and create a training plan to improve it. For example, if an athlete is struggling on their vertical leap then I will give them training to strengthen their calves and quadriceps. 4.Using a sport of your choice and applying the principle of periodisation, identify the three main phases of the training year. • 7. Muscular And Volleyball Exercise Analysis One physical activity I participate in outside of school is volleyball. Volleyball covers multiple aspects of fitness, including, flexibility, muscular strength, and possibly a few variations of endurance. Starting with flexibility, volleyball players need to be agile, have balance, and be quick to the movement. When a ball is coming over the net as fast as it usually is, it is necessary that the player gets in the appropriate position to react to the ball, whether it be in a low athletic position to get ready for an underhand pass, or if it be squatting down some bit with arms bent slightly in the air the ready position for a set. Proper form is vital for a successful pass and overall well performance. Furthermore in the aspect of flexibility, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Muscular strength is an overall area that is necessary to perform most, if not all, actions in volleyball, whether it be a controlled pass, accurate set, or aggressive serve. If you have greater muscular strength, you will be able to exhibit a greater amount of force during a single action, therefore leaving a greater impact. Suppose you are zone–serving to the back–left section, in order to have a vigorous serve to that specific area, you need to have good muscular strength in your arms to get the ball there. On the contrary, now suppose you are on the defending side of the server and the ball is coming at you. You need to get in a low position with your legs and be able to adjust as the ball approaches. Here, muscular strength in your legs are being worked. This athletic–position stance also can cover areas of endurance, such as muscular endurance, since you are standing and holding a squat position for an extended amount of time, and are most likely to move in a similar low position as well. Furthermore, cardiorespiratory endurance can also be covered to some extent in volleyball. If the teams are matched up well, both sides will have difficulty scoring against one another and they will play continuously for a longer period of time. Also, the game generally goes to 25 points per game, with multiple games in a match, meaning that players are up and running around for some time. In general, volleyball covers many key aspects and components of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 8. Lady Horns Volleyball Team A lot of responsibility is placed in a person's hands when they are chosen as the team captain. You have to keep the rest of the teams heads up, and make sure everyone is getting along on the court. It can be a struggle sometimes because the rest of the team looks up to you, and respect you. A bunch of things can change how the team thinks of you, whether it be what you say or how you act. My senior year, I was team captain of the Lady Horns Volleyballteam, and it is a year to remember. I will never forget that first game where our coach called me over for the coin toss. That moment I knew I had to be mature, and keep my head up because I was a leader for this team. It can be really difficult at times to keep your head up and stay pumped ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... I went back to the service like and took a deep breath in, and I thought to myself, "I can do this, for the team, and for district. Over and in, over and in." I served and the other team shanked it, I served again and again, and next thing you know, we are up by seven. From serving and scoring so many points got the rest of the team pumped, and we ended up winning that game. Even being the team captain I got sit on the bench quite a bit, but it was all due to physical health issues. Even sitting on the bench I could not help but to stand up every time we got a point. Our biggest rivalry game of the season I didn't sit down once, I stood over at the end of the row of chairs and cheered every single time we gained a point, and even when we lost a point I would cheer the team to shake it off and to get the ball back. With all this going on we ended up making Forestburg Volleyball history. Making it the farthest the team has ever gotten in playoffs, the Regional Tournament. We sadly lost our first game there, but when the rest of the team was down from making simple mistakes, I kept my head up, and did my best to try and cheer them up, and that was our toughest loss of the season. • 9. Volleyball Place Research Paper The place where I shine. Wood floors, loud whistles, bright lights, yelling coaches, two teams, one goal. The place where everything seems to make sense, where I feel most at home, a volleyball court. Playing volleyball for the past seven years has taught me more about building relationships and friendships with teammates and coaches, life in general but most importantly, more about myself than I could have ever imagined. Sharing 30 by 30 feet of floor with 6 other people doesn't seem like a difficult task to most, but it takes communication, discipline, strategy and heart from every player on that court. Once I began playing volleyball, I felt like I finally belonged to something. Being apart of the volleyball community has truly shaped me into the person I am today. It has brought out qualities in me that I never knew I had. I never cared about winning or losing before volleyball, now I am the most competitive person you'll meet and I'm not having fun if my team is not performing well and winning, it is who I am. Last year my team received a bid to the National Qualifier for finishing first in a tournament in Reno, Nevada. The butterflies before the big game, the shaking hands as we warmed up and the intense plays all throughout the game made the feeling of winning that game so much sweeter. Jumping for joy with my sisters because together, we achieved our goal, we won. No one cared how their hair looked or what their plans for next week were because everyone was so overcome with joy. That is my happy place, that is what I live for. Once, a coach asked us; "Do you play for the fear of losing or for the joy of winning? Because that shows what kind of player you are". I have no doubt in my mind that I am a player that plays for the joy of winning. I will be the first to 25 and I will leave a mark in my opponents head so they never want to play my team ... In volleyball, there are set rules that every player must follow. Teams have different methods to help their players understand the rules. Some teams memorize them and have "tests", others learn from experiencing the rules while playing. The exigence behind learning the rules is so that the player knows how to play the game as an individual and as a team. Knowing the rules of volleyball is essential for a well–functioning team. Along with the rules, a player must understand the terminology used consistently throughout the experience. Every sport has their own terminology and language that only players of that sport understand. In volleyball it is important to know the terms used. The terminology that a volleyball player first learns are: pass, set, hit, kill, double, serve, and the positions on the court. Every player's exigence for knowing and understanding the terms is for the player's and team's success. Without the knowledge of the terms used, a player will not comprehend what is going on, what plays are being made, or what the referees are expressing. My experience with volleyball gave me the opportunity to have a job at UNG, as an intramural volleyball referee. Being a referee is not an easy task. Along with the terminology used by the players and coaches, there is a different set of terminology for referees. Every referee must learn a set of hand signals and motions ... • 12. Volleyball Essays Volleyball The sport of volleyball was created by a man named William G. Morgan of Holyoke, Massachusetts in 1895. Morgan was a physical education teacher at the YMCA and called it "mintonette". It was an indoor or outdoor pastime that had characteristics of both handball and tennis. The first rules were written down by Morgan himself. He wrote that the game called for a 6 foot 6 inch net and a court of 25x50 feet. A match composed of 9 innings and 3 serves for each team in each inning. In case of a serving error they got a second chance just like in tennis. If the ball it the net ... The crowd's cheers were thundering through my body. I had so much adrenaline coursing through my veins that I wasn't even weary. People were jumping up and down, screaming in victory, and clapping so loud I couldn't hear myself think. I couldn't believe that I had just won the State Championship volleyball game. I love you so much," said my mother. I squeezed my mother with all of my strength. I was so glad that she was there to watch me. "Thanks! I love you, too," I responded. The crowd cheers, for the ball passed through each opponent at lightning speed and touched the court floor. This is the speedy, action–packed way volleyball is commonly played. Not only does volleyball have a fast play style, it has many other variables that make it a great sport. The history of volleyball started in 1895, much later than most people assumed (Boga 1). The basic rules would be set and are still used to this day. Later, in 1915, the sport would spread globally, and other counties would make their mark on the development of the sport (Crego 235). The basic setup for a casual volleyball game consists of typically twelve players spread across two sides of a court with a net separating each team equally in space. Teams usually form two rows of three to evenly distribute players on their side of the court. The goal the game is to receive the ball from the serving side and return it over the net to the other side of the field without the ball being passed back. Moreover, the ball must not be touched by the same player more than once consecutively and the ball must be passed over the net by the third touch of the ball. The serving team is awarded a point if the receiving team fails to return the ball within the three–hit maximum, keep the ball from coming in contact with the court floor, a player touches the ball twice consecutively, or if the ball is returned but lands out of bounds (Levinson and Christensen 437). The rotation for any team must be clockwise, so a player in the right–back most position of their side of the court would serve first then the right–front most player would serve next after rotation (Boga 53). Additionally, players may not touch the net. This rule is very important when a player is spiking or blocking because they will be very up and close to the net. Every player is required to be in their position of rotation before the ball is served. After the ball is served, however, a player is allowed to move freely within his or her side of the court. Lastly, a game is won when a team has 25 points, or 15 points for shorter games, and the opposing team trails by at least two points (Levinson and Christensen ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 20. Reflection Paper On Volleyball Player This Club season, I would like to improve my knowledge of the sport, understand how to be a supportive teammate, and develop into a better and more experienced volleyball player. The position I enjoy the most is the outside hitter. I am fond of this position because I am not only a skilled and talented hitter, but I am also useful in backrow. Therefore, an outside hitter is my desired position because I believe this is where I would be the most useful to the team. I would absolutely consider playing another position because I desire to support my team in anyway the coaches see fit. A position I am not willing to play is right side hitter because in a previous club season, I was placed in that position and I did not get much playing time and I felt as though I was not benefitting my team in any way. Also, I enjoy passing in the backrow and the position of right side hitter is only a front row position. My grade point average is a 98.75. My grades currently range from a 97–100%. School is a very big aspect of my life and my goal is to continue to move forward in my studies. On average, I study anywhere from one hour to three hours a night causing me to have plenty of free time that could be used more productively. I am motivated by goals and I feel it is very important to set goals for yourself in every aspect of your life. I am also motivated by rewards and my personality causes me to want to fulfill all of the potential possible for me. My motivation increases when I am being supported by the people around me because then I will not want to let them down. My parents also motivate me to do my best because they have set a very high expectation for me, causing me to work for what I want. Yelling and fear of failure both decrease my motivation. When I am in an environment that I feel comfortable in, my motivation will increase, however, if I am in a space where I feel judged, I tend to not be motivated. I have led by example when I tell the truth instead of taking the easy way out, when I take credit for my actions and not sabotage my teammates. Subcultures such as volleyball have been given a chance to grow in our society and spread to other cultures connecting nations across the globe. It takes time for a subculture to be accepted by our society today. Once it is accepted, membership in subculture grows as more people feel comfortable joining a mainstream subculture such as volleyball. We would meet to practice for about an hour everyday, and we would play other opponents once a week. The longer I was a part of this subculture, the more involved I became with it, and the more serious I became about being a part of the group. III. • 29. Communication In Volleyball Essay It is the fifth match against our rival team They are up by one and need one more to win. If we do what we are suppose to do and communicate, we have a sure thing of winning this game. The opponent's side serves the ball and it goes straight to what I can say is the weakest link on the team. The player right beside her knew she could not get the better angle on the ball, so she called her off and passed the ball to the setter. The setter set it up to the hitter and BOOM! Kill. From everyone communicating, we are now tied with the other team. Although volleyball needs a lot of other important aspects, the biggest thing a team needs to have is communication. To be successful in volleyball it requires speed, agility, and teamwork or, in other words, communication. Whether a person is an experienced or inexperienced player, good players know that there is always room for improvement(Communication). Developing from an average player to a good player demands patience, dedication and a focus on improving skills. Learning which areas of the game could use a little work can also help develop a person as a player(Communication). In a personal interview, a volleyball player from Moody High School, Kayley Hale, explained what she thought was required to become a successful volleyball team. For example, she said, "I believe it takes teamwork, communication and work ethic to have a very successful volleyball team. Our team communicates and uses teamwork every game, making sure that everyone knows who has the ball and where it is at all times possible. If we did not do that we would not be 6–0 in district right now." Volleyball is a unique sport in that it requires teammates to constantly communicate vocally with one another. There are three aspects of communication that are super important in any circumstances: knowing what you are trying to communicate about, speaking clearly in a language that people can understand, and keeping your words quick and specific(Speak Up). While teams may have set plays, they still need to respond correctly to rapid changes in a game situation if they expect to win or do good. Communication is one of the most crucial skills for a volleyball team to have. During matches, volleyball players ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 39. Persuasive Letter About Volleyball Dear L.M.: As I share the love for the game with many other players around the country, I will always remember who introduced me to the game of Volleyball. It all started in the transitional days of middle school, in 7th grade, when I heard something on the announcements about Boys Volleyball try–outs. What I was contemplating at that moment as I sat there at the beginning of first period was something I would doubt and argue against to many other people in the years that followed; that Volleyballis a "girls' sport." As I now realize, the Volleyball that I play is anything but a girls' type of sport. The fact that I wanted to participate in a school sport was the main reason I decided to try out for the team. Fourth grade is when you are old enough to play volleyball. I started small at the YMCA learning the skills I needed to know, I was very good at it, and was always the best one on any team I played on. I should have worked as hard as possible, I should have shown them up and proved to them and myself that I did belong their, and that I was a great volleyball player just like they were, they never gave me the chance to show them, they automatically hated me from day one, which made it all the more hard for me, how could I of wanted to stay there, around people everyday who I knew had so much dislike for me. I regret not having the confidence to stick through it. I knew the potential I had and I should have worked so hard to get it back, I should have went back their my senior year I should have played club volleyball over the winter, to get help with getting my strength and skills back, but instead I gave up on it all together, and it haunts me everyday. I wish I could go back to my beginning of my junior year and tried harder, and ignored everyone's mean taunts, I should not of let them break me into giving up on my dreams. I would do anything to have it back, I would do anything to still be able to live my dreams of playing at the University of Nebraska. I wish I could tell the younger me to never give up on her dreams no matter how hard they may get. What I have learned from this, is to never give up, to push through any barriers there may be in life. To never care what anyone thinks about me, only my own opinion about myself matters. I'll never let someone else make me run from my dreams, never give up because anything in life is possible if you put your mind to it.
