Pete Saunders from ProjectProject discusses
a number of core differences between mobile websites and apps and present three case studies of health related projects where the advantages of device technology became a deciding factor in their developments. Presentation from DrugInfo seminar: Leveraging social media. Melbourne, Australia, 16 July 2013
2. Mobile websites: advantages
· Mobile sites can work on any mobile device.
· Relatively less expensive to develop.
· Indexed via search engines/websites/blogs.
· Doesn’t require an app store.
· Instantly accessible.
· No need to manually update.
· Draws content from an existing CMS.
3. Native apps: advantages
· Better performance and user experience.
· Distribution through native app stores
(another promotional avenue).
· Utilise native functionality: camera, push
notifications, GPS, gyroscope, link to other
apps.
· Allows for interactivity and gamification
4. Whether you build a
mobile website or a
native app comes down
to what you want to
achieve.
