Teaching and training
Teaching and training may be thought of as
the same thing, but they, in fact, have many
While they are both appropriate in certain
circumstances, sometimes the presence of one
may be to the detriment of the other.

Teach me and I remember.
Involve me and I learn”, Benjamin Franklin

he realizes the need to know.
In this context, H. Clay Trumbull ,
rightly quoted, “It has been said
that the essence of teaching is

Characteristics of Training
Focusing on training, as well, makes the students
more confident and competent and helps them to
get employment opportunities.
Training equips mindset, tools set and skills set.
Training is always an active area where there
will be interaction, questioning, learning by
doing, role-plays, team games and practical
Although training is subset of teaching it does
have lot of impact in equipping the participants
with novel tools and techniques to become
competent at the job front.
Training helps in uncorking the hidden talents
among the people, which until then not realized

Training usually has a more specific focus than
teaching, which seeks to instill a deeper
knowledge over a longer period of time.
Training, on the other hand, seeks to help people
master a specific skill, or skill set, until they are
able to execute it efficiently.
Training is usually a one-time or short-term
event, as with job training.
Training is subset of teaching.

Teaching and training are supplementary to
There are times when teaching and training
must work in tandem.
For the activities which require both cognitive
and psychomotor domains of knowledge both
teaching and training are required
Interference of Teaching and Training
At times teaching can interfere with training
and vice versa
Instead of providing complete knowledge if
the child is provided training in attempting a
If in subjects/ aspects where practical
knowledge is also required along with
theoretical knowledge emphasis is provided
to theoretical knowledge only
Balancing the teaching and training
Skill training is essential along with academic or
Training will always be enriched when a deeper,
longer-term knowledge is continually sought and
Cognitive knowledge has its own limits and
benefits so are that of psychomotor domains also
Both are complementary to each other with each
cater to different domains of knowledge
At times we need both of these to varying extent
