1. Q4: Why might alternative publishers like Bauer be appropriate?
• Bauer Media Group is a large European-based media company, headquartered in
Hamburg, Germany that manages a portfolio of more than 600 magazines, over
400 digital products and 50 radio and TV stations around the world
• Bauer Media Group has a workforce of approximately 11,000 employees in 17
countries.
• Their extensive routed could massively benefit someone trying to publish their
work world wide as it could easily get noticed around the world.
• Bauer Verlagsgruppe has been around along time and the media company has
been managed by 5 generations of the Bauer family. This means the original
publishers good knowledge and experience has been passed down throughout
he years so they’ll be good at what they do.
• They first launched in 1953 when they launched angling times and then motor
cycle news in 1956 which both targeted a middle class male audience. Both are
still around now which shows they are loyal and successful.
• Bauer media first entered UK with the launch of Bella magazine in 1987. Under the name
of H Bauer Publishing they became Britain's third largest publisher.
• In 1994 they launched for him, now popularly known as FHM which was a magazine
purely made for men to view women as sexual objects, this magazine is also still around
and shows the success that viewing women this way can make for a magazine.
2. • H Bauer is a publishing brand that include women's weekly and TV listings
magazines; namely Bella, Take a Break, that's life! TVChoice and Total TVGuide. This
is as well as a number of puzzle magazines. They have published popular magazines
such as Q and kerrang which are popular today and include 2 styles of music, this
shows the target audiences vary a lot throughout the different genres of magazines
they publish. Their range of published magazines shows that they have a wide
variety to interest different people and a lot of the magazines they’ve published
have stayed successful until this day. This is shows their loyalty and most likely
guaranteed success for the magazine. They have a lot of history and they have came
from a family business passed down five generations, this shows the expertise they
had at the start will have been passed down the family and therefore no new big
changes that could ruin the success/ways Bauer is run can occur. Many of the music
magazines are now popular music channels on tv which brands the magazine
making it more recognisable. So I think it is the best option for magazine publishing
