Throughout history generations have judged those of a newer generation with the belief that they are
worsening, specifically in their intelligence levels and work ethic. But is this necessarily the case?

He believes that the generation of today is in fact what he considers "dumb". As controversial as this

Yet again Jim Carrey and Jeff Daniels take up arms together in Dumb and Dumber To which was
released on November 14 2014. Once again this dynamic duo was directed by the Farrelly Brothers
– Bobby and Peter, fully reuniting the cast from the original Dumb and Dumber. This film had a lot
to live up to and unsurprisingly it did not deliver the knock–out punch everyone was hoping for.
Instead we got an endless amount of crude jokes that didn't hold the appeal they once did now that
Harry and Lloyd are 20 years older and 20 times less innocent. Of course it had its moments – all
films do, but these were few and far between. When are they going to learn that eventually we all
have to grow up?
The plot of this brutal train–wreck seemed to have been cut and paste from the original film; from
Lloyd falling in love with a girl to upsetting the bad guys' plans. And what guides them out of

The fact that audiences have loved his believability and natural talent boosts the credit of this film as
he easily slips back into his old role seemingly no different to the Lloyd Christmas we met 20 years
ago. Carrey is perfect with his ignorance and complete oblivion to the world around him.
Unfortunately despite all of Carrey's charisma, not even he could bring this film back from the
brink. In conjunction to Jim, Jeff Daniels was also a star in this film, however again not even his
vast pool of experience was enough to make this film enjoyable. His depiction of Harry Dunne
however is spot on – from his vacant expression and limitless amounts of enthusiasm, to his crude
nature; Jeff Daniels has hit the nail on the head. No one would be more perfect in the role of Harry
Dunne and it is for this reason that I commend the Farrelly Brothers on their casting

Don T Play With Train Advertising
The South Australian television advertisement Don't Play with Trains and Melbourne Metro's viral
advertisement Dumb Ways to Die, although quite different, are both successful advertisements for
trail safety. The television advertisement Don't Play with Trains was produced to remind the public
that trains might still cross roads unexpectedly because "train schedules can change" it also warns
drivers to "watch the signs and never enter a crossing unless you are absolutely sure that your exit is
clear" and to "never assume that there is no train coming." This important message is relayed
through the use of a friendly but serious voice over as well as powerful visual effects. Images of
people and their cars disappearing when they collide with trains creates an eerie effect, more so than
seeing a graphic crash because the audiences can tell the car is going to be hit, and by wiping them
from existence, it gives it a greater impact. The viral advertisement Dumb Ways to Die, in contrast,
explores a cute song with lyrics describing reckless and stupid ways one can kill themselves such as

Even though it is more effective and serious, Don't Play with Trains is not as well–known as the
dark and humorous Dumb Ways to Die. The television advertisement has been made with a serious
atmosphere as well as voice overs warning the audience, whereas the viral advertisement is
colourful, silly and entertaining, catching the audience's attention. Dumb Ways to Die is farfetched
and it's not something that one would normally do because it's dumb, like "take your helmet off in
outer space". The song also changes the refrain at the end after the trail way accidents to "dumbest
ways to die". By changing the ending of the song from 'dumb' to 'dumbest' it makes one think that
it's dumber to die from train

The printing press has changed how society shares information from people to people. In the same
way, the internet has done the same thing for us. The typewriter made it exponentially easier for a
writer to freely flow their thoughts from their minds to the paper. With the emergence of new
technologies and ideologies come the need for change and the capability and ability for humans to
react to this change. In order to accept new things into society, one must be willing to adapt.
The human brain is completely malleable. James Olds, a professor of neuroscience at George Mason

It causes wonder if this really closes the gap between people being able to form their own opinions
on unfiltered, objective information. That's not necessarily the case because if anything, it forces us
to speculate both sides of an argument completely and totally. Having the capacity to argue both
sides of an argument makes a person fully able to decide what their opinion is on a matter. The more
information someone has on a topic, the easier it is to decide. This is a new–age thinking tool that
many people from past generations do not have the capacity of doing. If we only have information
from one side of the argument, then how can someone argue irrefutably? Fully forming an opinion
on a topic means knowing both sides of a story.
During this contemporary age, the definitions of "dumb" or "smart" are fairly relative. With the
internet and all kinds of information right at our fingertips, it's hard to measure intellectuality. A
person who seeks out information on the web, as if the internet is their own personal tool for
education, is the contemporary smart today. "Dumb" people are those who choose to look at
mindless information, not just some of the time, but most of the time. So, it isn't clearly the internet
that has made us "dumb", necessarily. The internet has forced us to bring out the parts of ourselves
that we wish to identify
