1. I always assumed that leadership was more on how you managed people. If I accomplished the
days tasking successfully, I felt I led my people properly. After making Chief Petty Officer (CPO) in
2010, I started to see that leading was not managing and vice versa. As a CPO, it was not just about
"me" but more about those under me. Eventually when I advanced to Senior Chief Petty Officer
(SCPO), things finally clicked on what leadership meant. I also started to realize what kind of leader

Hypothesis 1: Hiring managers are hiring Caucasians for Senior Level Executive positions over
minority applicants.
In America, cultural sounding names are prevalent. People attribute certain cultural names with
racial groups. For example, Lakisha Johnson and Jamal Wilson may be seen as names of African
Americans While Emily Adams and Connor Backham, may be seen as Caucasian names. Marianne
Bertrans and Sendhill Mullainathan conducted a study on race in the labor market by sending
fictitious resumes to help–wanted ads in Boston and Chicago newspapers. To manipulate perceived
race, resumes were randomly assigned African–American or White–sounding names before being
sent to jobs around the Boston and Chicago area. White names received 50 percent more callback
for interviews compared to the African–American names. They also found the racial gap to be
uniform across occupation, industry and employer size. In fact, Bertans and Mullainathan found
evidence that inferred social class from the names.

and prestige. Now that the moment is here I'm actually happy to say there is something my moms
were right about.
My moms raised me with a strong set of morals, including "hard work pays off." Sometimes this can
be discouraging when you work hard, but it doesn't pay off as you'd like it to. I've always gotten the
grades I strive for without much struggle. However, once high school started, everything changed.
I'd work for weeks on a scholarship essay, and I wouldn't even place. I'd work for months to get
something published and then read other people's names in the congratulations announcement. I'd
constantly wonder: Who's at the top of the class? Who's going to win the end of year awards? When
you consistently get the grades that I do, people just expect those grades. No one congratulates you
on your hard work anymore, and you don't always get recognized. Despite the lack of recognition, I

Negative Leader Robert E. Lee once said of leadership, "I cannot trust a man to control others who
cannot control himself" (Jones, 1875). This is an instance where I believe that even though this idea
or thought was mentioned many years ago, it still has relevance today. I do not have an exact date of
that quote, but with General Lee fighting in the Civil War, I would imagine it came somewhere in
the mid–1800's (The book it is found in was published after his death). Our current military leaders
need to listen to advice like this quote, get out and know the people they put in charge so they are
better able to make decisions on who should and should not actually be leading. In the past couple
of years there have been some nasty headlines made by the Air Force for things that should never
have been issues in the first place if there was proper leadership in charge. On the officer side there
has been a 2–star general bringing embarrassment to the Air Force by getting excessively drunk in
public while on a high–visibility trip to Russia, to widespread cheating on academic tests at the Air
Force Academy and on certification tests for the officers in charge of nuclear missile sites and codes.
On the enlisted side there was an epidemic of Military Training Instructors sexually assaulting

Jerry got a lot of education he never got when he lived with his parents, and got a lot of training. He

Till this day, employees that worked at the plant believed they did the best they could with what they
had to work with. Furthermore, there was no trust between management and employees.
We believe that improving the health and communication of an organization is a priority. Moreover,
it is important to put employee needs first as well as sharing information regularly. Companies such

We will continue to build upon our legacy as long as we stand united.
Every JROTC class is subjected different forms of curriculums compared to other classes in the
school.
Each class is divided into four year groups: first years, second years, third years, and fourth years.
Each year group is taught different aspects of leadership education and aerospace science. Through
the four years, cadets are taught how to be a leader.
Once a cadet reaches his or her fourth year, he or she will be given the opportunity to become a
flight commander. As a flight commander, cadets are expected to take control of the class in the
absence of an instructor or lead them in a lesson or assignment. Different flight commanders have
their own motivations to lead cadets. Cadet Colonel Chase Winans' motivation is "to help build the
foundations of future leaders".
Our program in and outside has impacted cadets lives forever. We have received thank you notes
from cadets that have graduated two to six years before. Cadets even now are realizing the impact of
