Valinomycin is a potassium ionophore. What would be its effect on insulin secretion by cells that were exposed to valinomycin? Solution Ionosphore are the molecules which can transfer a particular ions across a semi-permeambke membrane..!! Valinomycin is also a ionophore which transfer the potassium across the cell memberane.. Due to which when it is exposed to the beta cells of insulin it inhibits the secretion of insulin in the body as potassium plays a major role in insulin secretion.. As the concentration of potassium is disturbed in the beta cells in inhibits the insulin secretion.. Hence the blood glucose level increases..!!.

  • 1. Valinomycin is a potassium ionophore. What would be its effect on insulin secretion by cells that were exposed to valinomycin? Solution Ionosphore are the molecules which can transfer a particular ions across a semi-permeambke membrane..!! Valinomycin is also a ionophore which transfer the potassium across the cell memberane.. Due to which when it is exposed to the beta cells of insulin it inhibits the secretion of insulin in the body as potassium plays a major role in insulin secretion.. As the concentration of potassium is disturbed in the beta cells in inhibits the insulin secretion.. Hence the blood glucose level increases..!!
