Essay On School-Wide Data Analysis
School–Wide Data Analysis Overview
I gathered and analyzed the MAP results for students who took Math, Reading, Science tests in
grades k–9 in order to identify percentage of Students who met or exceeded their projected RIT
(Rasch Unit) in 2016–2017 school year. I also analyzed the results by classroom, subject, and
teacher. I used the MAP winter 2016 results, I prepared a projected proficiency summary report for
the Smarter Balanced Assessment Consortia (SBAC) and ACT tests in spring 2017. Currently, I am
helping the admin team to develop a plan for low performing teachers and students in order to
increase student achievement in the area of concern.

I started my activity by gathering the math results in the fall 2016 term. The results shows "Norms
Reference Data", student's RIT score, Projected RIT score and percentile in Math. I did the same
method for gathering the data for reading, and science.
At the end of the MAP fall test, I shared the test results with the classroom teachers and admin. The
admin team also had one on one meeting with some of the teachers to talk about the projected goals
and how we can help them to achieve these goals. After the spring test, I gathered the results in
order to compare the growth between fall term and spring term in 2016–2017 school year. The tests
results clearly show that 2nd and 4th grade students struggled with both subjects reading and math.
3rd grade and 6th grade students did not have a good year in Math. Overall all students in 3–8
grades did well in science except K–2 and 9 grade students because they did not take the test (see
Appendix A for more information on The Percentage of Students who Met or Exceeded their
Projected RIT).
I combined all of the test results by teacher, classroom in order to have a deeper understanding of
the results in teacher and classroom level. I took the average of The Percentage of Students who met
or Exceeded their Projected RIT for each teacher. I sorted teachers by their performance and
presented it to the admin team (see Appendix B for more information on the teacher performance).

1. How are bias and bullying related?
Bias and bullying are directly related. Most bullies have prejudice or are bias towards a subject
matter. For example, if a certain individual believes males are the dominate gender, then it will be
easy for that male to bully females. To end bullying means to end bias, because generally the two
are connected.
2. Describe 2–3 strategies for preventing bullying in schools. Which do you think is most effective?
There are many strategies to discourage and prevent bullying. The three suggestions that stuck out to
me the most were giving a bullying quiz, mixing up a lunch day, and watching a movie. Mixing up a
lunch day refers to the idea of encouraging students to step out of their comfort zones and to sit with
new students. This generates a friendly environment which helps stop early clichés from forming.
The third idea is watching the movie, "Bullied." The movie illustrates the perspective of bullying by
the person being bullied and the negative effects that bullying causes. The theme of the movie is to
end bullying and to encourage students to care for their fellow classmates. Overall, the bullying quiz
is a best choice to prevent bullying, because it is a way to focus on a subject matter, and show

Teachers must examine their classroom environments daily and encourage students to report
bullying, as well as feel comfortable to talk to teachers. Additionally, teachers need to be sober–
minded about the significance of terms such as "there was drama" or "he was messing with me."
These are major clues that indicate bullying and need to be dealt with immediately. Personally, I

necessity when enquiring about the possibility of integrating critical thinking in English Language
Teaching. This chapter is devoted to the investigation of the hypothesis of the study, whether critical
thinking could be incorporated in English Language Teaching. This chapter is undertaken with this

Background Information: George is a 13 year 1 month old (13;1) English speaking male. George is
currently attending 6th grade at Abrego Elementary School, where he as attended since kindergarten.
George will begin middle school in the Fall, and was assessed using the Clinical Evaluation of
Language Fundamentals– Fourth Edition (CELF–4) in order to obtain a profile that addresses his
communicative strengths and weaknesses. This profile will help to begin planning his transition into
middle school and the appropriate interventions that will be required. Utilizing school records and
interviews with George's maternal grandparents and teachers, the following information was
obtained: George currently lives with and is taken care of by his maternal grandparents. His father is
in the military and is deployed overseas; his mother is deceased. George's mother drank alcohol and
smoked cigarettes while pregnant and did not receive prenatal care. George's birth weight is
unknown, but was reported to be a small baby, per his grandparents. Additionally, the grandparents
reported that as an infant he had difficulty eating and sleeping, food allergies (not specified), and
that he had many colds and middle ear infections (otitis media). George's third grade teacher first
expressed a concern with his academics, and referred him for testing. Consequently, George was
diagnosed with having a learning disability (LD) and began receiving special education services for
reading, writing, and math.

These suggestions will increase the amount of learning for students in your classroom. There have
been several publications written on the topic of teaching styles and sifting through all the
information can be tedious. The first, and most obvious, place to start would be to discuss a little
about how learning occurs. The brain is a complex organ that scientists are still studying. Much has
been learned about the brain, but much more needs to be researched. One thing that has been studied
a great deal is memory and how it works. All human beings use their memory to learn. Information
that has been learned was processed in the short–term memory and stored in the long–term memory.
We retrieve the information through recall, recognition, and encoding specificity. Recall is a simple
retrieval of information. Recognition involves a set of "pre–generated stimuli presented to learners
for a decision or judgment" (Driscoll, 2000). For example, when one hears the words "Oh say can
you see..." one automatically recognizes it as the opening line to the national anthem. The encoding
specificity principle states that whatever cues are to facilitate encoding will also serve as the best

For the majority of young people, transitions or transfers generally occur between nursery and
primary school, primary school and secondary school, and from secondary school to higher
education and/or work (Topping, 2011). Sometimes this change is known as transition, sometimes as
transfer but for the purpose of this study we will use the term transition. Transition can be defined as
a passage or change from one stage to another. At around the age of 11, pupils' are required to make
that change from primary to secondary school. This typically involves a change of school location,
meeting and forming relationships with new peers, learning to organise and meet deadlines and
responding to a number of teachers for different subject areas. Secondary schools tend to be much
larger than primary schools and pupils are often required to move from one location to another for
their classes. At the same time, they need to arrive to each class on time. With this is mind, it is
important for the pupils' to learn what organisation involves to meet the timetable requirements.
These challenges are different to those in primary school were pupils' spend the majority of their day

Summary It is no secret that teacher attrition or teacher turnover, as it is known in the article by
Ronfeldt, Loeb, and Wyckoff, is a major problem for the United States and it has lasting effects on
schools and the individuals in those schools (Ronfeldt, Loeb, & Wyckoff, 2012, p. 5). The authors
continue with the idea that most research done on teacher turnover has correlated it with negative
effects and this is one of the reasons for this research article because few papers and researchers
have tried to objectively determine if the effects are beneficial rather than just assuming that most
teacher turnover if not all is negative and has a harmful effect on schools (Ronfeldt, Loeb, &
Wyckoff, 2012, p. 5). The effects of teacher turnover can be many and two words that come up often
in this article are compositional explanations which are explanations that help deduce the total
effects of the teacher's quality and effectiveness on student achievement; in simpler terms,
compositional explanations are basically the team of teachers that are already at the school so their
skills and quality will strong indicators of student achievement, but are far and away from the only

the student. Throughout my whole high school year, I have had few teachers, who cared about
getting through the day and following their schedule of what the scholars are supposed to be

Introduction The topic of whether or not parents and teachers should use corporal punishment in the
name of discipline had caught my eye for several reasons. One of the most important reasons is that
I was beaten by a wooden paddle while I was growing up. I was about 12 years of age when my
teacher beats all of my classmates including me just because one of us was misbehaving. That was
in Baghdad, Iraq, where teachers and parents are allowed to use corporal punishment freely without
any fear. Another reason is that I was born in a Catholic well–educated family that showed me what
love and respect actually is. Hence, my parents didn't accept what that teacher did and went to tell
on her. They thought that a teacher should never do any kind of physical harm to their children, even
if they used to do so. Therefore, I chose this topic to read more about corporal punishment and its
usage in the United States. The key terms that are important in this paper are defined to give a full
understanding of the issue. The term corporal punishment is defined as "the act of disciplining a

With recent changes and reform to primary education assessment and removal of standard levels,
assessment is the subject of great discussion in education. In this assignment I will be investigating
the practice of questioning within formative assessment; the theory behind it, strategies and

I have developed an array of skills throughout my life experiences which I will be able to bring to

years of studying up to A Level and now degree level, with my studies in English Literature being

school teacher led me to complete work experience in a junior school. This has given me a good

In the traditional education environments, the duty of the students is to adhere the education

for classroom instruction. Thus, La Salle Green Hills (LSGH) pioneered the use of tablets in the
classrooms at the later part of 2012 and named this endeavor as the PERsonal Learning device
(PEARL) program. During its initial stage, students of the honors classes were selected as its
participants. On the following year around eight to nine sections in the High School level opted to
join the said program. However, during the course of the said program implementation, certain
issues have been raised that needed to be addressed by the school especially in the area of student
learning. Based on a study made by a group of LSGH High School teachers last February 2014 on
the effectiveness of using tablets in Grade 10 English classes, it has been observed that there is no
distinct difference between the non–tablet and tablet classes in terms of student performance. This
may be attributed to the following: 1). there is no definite strategic plan made except for the
roadmap on how the PEARL program will be implemented. 2). the infrastructure set–up was not
carefully taken into consideration. 3). teachers have not been given enough training prior to its

I. BACKGROUND The implementation of technology in the classroom is a pressing topic in
education. There are both positive and negative arguments when discussing the impact of
technology on a student's ability to learn. Three parties play a role in the success of technology in
the classroom, including the teacher, student, and parent. Along with the introduction of technology
comes new terms that must be understood. II. TERMS Four terms are commonly mentioned when
discussing the implementation of technology in the classroom. A classroom that has transferred from
the traditional teaching model to a virtual classroom conducted via video is known as a flipped
classroom. Lessons are sent to students using resources such as email, Dropbox, and YouTube,
which leaves classroom time available for other activities like personalized instruction. This leads to
a second term known as personalized learning, which refers to the use of technology to cater to a
student's particular needs. Apps can be used to assess if a student is understanding the material and
allows a student to move as quickly or as slowly through the material to ensure their comprehension.
The way in which a student learns the best can also be identified. The amount of time that students
use devices such as tablets, phones, and laptops is referred to as screen time. Students also have
access to programs and extracurricular activities referred to under the acronyms: STEM, STEAM,

Children may learn through observing or experiencing other children, adults or their parents.
Without forcing someone to learn something, a person can learn so many things in life if s/he wants
to learn. The term 'autonomy' starts to be used within language teaching due to those innovations in
foreign language teaching. Learner autonomy, in its broadest sense, puts the learner at the focal
point of all attention and it endows him/her with responsibility for his/her actions. Each student can

Twenty–first century scholars presented the servant leader as one moving beyond being
transformational. These servant leaders possess the intent of transforming those served to grow
personally and professionally, become more autonomous, and increase the likelihood of becoming
servants themselves (Spears & Lawrence, 2004). Studies have shown a relationship between
implementing principles of servant leadership and positive organizational climate (Ehrhart, 2004;
Hunt, 2002; McCowan, 2004).
In Good to Great, Jim Collins (2001) describes the highest level of leadership as a Level 5 leader,
who is a servant leader. Collins also contends the companies that evolved from good to great had
Level 5 leaders and that the transformational power of the servant leader and the effect that he/she
has on a group of employees and colleagues to lift an organization from mediocrity to greatness is
astounding.
Greenleaf (2002) defined servant leadership as leaders who are servant leaders who aspire to serve
first, and then choose to lead. Greenleaf identified some common servant leadership characteristics
as being love, humility, altruism, vision, trust, empower and service. Shaw & Newton (2014) made a
statement that the practice of servant leadership in schools could have a similar impact, particularly
as it relates to teacher satisfaction and retention.
