2. What is pollination?
Pollination is a method where pollen grains are
picked from an anther, which is the male part of a
flower and transferred to the flower’s female part
called the stigma. To make the pollination work
successfully, the pollen grains must be transferred
from the same species of flower.

4. Self Pollination
Self pollination is the transfer of pollen grains
from the anther to stigma of the same flower .
Presentation title 4
5. Cross Pollination
The transfer of pollen grains from the
anther of the flower to the stigma of
another flower on a different plant of
same species is called cross pollination

6. Artificial Pollination
Artificial pollination is a technique
widely used to improve the quality
of crops. In artificial pollination two
varieties of plants , each having
one or more desirable qualities are
pollinated artificially to give rise to
a variety that acquires the desirable
qualities of both the parents.

7. Artificial pollination involved the following steps
Presentation title 7
Selection
First the male and
female plants of
the same species
but with different
desirable
characters are
selected.
Removal of Stamen
Stamens are
removed manually
from the bisexual
flower before they
mature, to prevent
natural pollination
from the same
plant or flower.
Bagging
The flowers are
covered with paper
or polyethene bag
this is done to
prevent natural
pollination from
plants which are not
selected.
Pollination
Pollen grains
from desirable
plants are
collected and
dusted on the
stigma of the
selected flower.
