1. Blood is a complex, fluid connective tissue which circulates
rapidly in our body. Blood is 5 times more
viscous than water. It consists of 2 parts - a pale Yellow
liquid part called PLASMA and the solid part or formed
elements which are blood cells suspended in Plasma. The
normal range of specific gravity of blood is 1.052-1.061. Its
value for men is slightly higher than that for women.

3. Genres Of Blood
In 1901 Karl Landsteiner came forward with the
ABO grouping system. According to him, human
beings are classified into 4 groups depending on
the presence of absence of two agglutinogen A
and B in the red cells. In 1940 Landsteiner and
Weiner found out another factor in the red cells
called Rh factor (Rhesus factor).

4. Eligibility conditions
Donors should be healthy adults between 18 - 60
years of age.
Body weight not less than 45 kg.
Frequency of donation not to be more than 4 times a
year.
Donor should have a normal blood pressure and
pulse.
5. Precautions While Donating Blood
Avoid fatty foods 24 hours before you donate.
Do not take alcohol few hours before or after
donating blood.
If you feel faint, tell the medical staff and they will
assist you into a reclining position on the chair.
