Book Banning Essay
1. Book Banning Essay
Book banning has been used throughout history as a way to control the ideas of a society. It is "a
form of censorship that attempts to control the dissemination of thoughts and ideas that some groups
in society believe to be harmful"("Book Banning"). Governments and religious bodies have tried to
ban books with differing or revolutionary views. Today, the top reasons books are banned are
because of sexual content, objectionable language, violence, homosexual themes, racism, and
religion (Whelan). The argument of book banning is seen in communities, school boards, public
libraries, and state legislature, and can involve governments, corporations, book publishers, and
private citizens ("Introduction To Book Banning: At Issue"). Book banning ... Show more content on

"Good books have always caused people to think, and since few of us think alike, controversy is
guaranteed" (Gallo). If a child is to think for themselves, they must learn about and consider other
points of view. They must be able to form their own views of the world around them, and they
cannot do that completely without needed information.
The parents who want to ban books from libraries do not seem to trust their children to know what
books they are ready for or not. If a child starts to read a book and does not like the content that is in
it, then they can decide to stop reading it and choose a book that they like better. The people who
ban books do not trust their children to be able make the right decisions for themselves, and thus do
not respect them in their decisions. Additionally, banning books often has the opposite effect of what
was planned, making more people interested in the book and want to read it.
In the future, books in libraries and schools should be judged on the story in it and not just the
content. New ideas are needed to develop different points of view and learn about the world. Books
should not be banned because it shows disrespect to the rights of the children and restricts their
ability to learn new

3. Book Banning
For the reasons of violence, religious viewpoints, offensive language, and sexuality some of the
world's best written novels and short stories are being banned from schools everywhere. As I look at
the world around me, I see the things that books, such as The Great Gatsby, To Kill a Mockingbird,
and even The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn, are banned for. I hear racial slurs, vulgar language,
see violent video games, and even people being very sexual in public, and yet people are still
banning books that are like the real world because they do not want the children of this nations to
read about the things they see in their day–to–day lives. I find that preposterous. Oscar Wilde once
said "The books that the world calls immoral are books ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Now, I am not saying they need get rid of rap or the television shows that show that type of
behavior, but only to suppress the unruliness is in the world of media today. No one can stop a child
from seeing what is really going on in the world, no matter how hard people try, kids will find out
every terrible thing that could happen in this world, they are smarter than any of us realize. Yes, they
will find it out eventually, but they are just kids. If we ban the books that are controversial, how will
they know how to deal with the problems, or cope with the fact that there are horrendous things in
this world? We will be taking the fight out of them. Everyone has a choice on how they act and we
should give the future generations a chance to fight for the right of knowledge and the power to lead
this nation into its true potential and the right to help them change this world. We should never ban
books that would help our future grow. Oscar Wilde had also stated "Those who find ugly meanings
in beautiful things are corrupt without being charming. This is a fault. Those who find beautiful
meanings in beautiful things are the cultivated. For these there is hope. They are the elect to whom
beautiful things mean only Beauty. There is no such thing as a moral or an immoral book. Books are

5. Essay On Breed Banning
Most dog owners and lovers would agree that pets are like family. Each animal with their own
personality, responses, and personal temperament. It is nearly impossible to create broad
generalizations based just on one breed. Breed specific legislation, or breed banning, is an ordinance
passed by local government basically outlawing a specific breed or group of breeds of dogs that are
considered dangerous.
Banning specific breeds is not an effective method for keeping the public safe from dog bites or
attacks. The ban does not account for differences in each dog's temperament, socialization, or
behavior displayed by individual dogs, but groups all dogs of specific breeds as dangerous. Breed
banning does not control the problem of dangerous ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
I myself own a two year old female American pit bull. She has never shown any kind of aggression,
yet, it is nearly impossible for me to live in any apartment home due to these breed restrictions.
Although these dogs are stereotyped as being "dangerous", bite statistics, when accurately reported,
do not back up those claims. The first thing is to find out which dogs are doing the biting. Dundee
Hospital in the UK conducted a study designed to analyze bite reports and medical attention
required by bite victims over a three month period before and after the implementation of a breed
ban specifically targeting pit bulls. The results indicated no change in the number of bites reported.
Banning pit bulls did nothing to change the amount of dog bites.
Most breed laws are poorly written and do not take into account the individual temperaments of the
dogs considered vicious. Mandatory leash laws are much more effective in controlling dog bites,
when the proper resources are available to enforce the laws. Mandatory leash laws do not stereotype
dogs based on their breed and put the responsibility back in the hands of the owner. Some cities
have bans so strict that if a specific breed, usually pit bulls, and or pit bull mixes is within city limits
that have the breed ban, the dogs are confiscated and

The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn, Beloved, Gone with the Wind, The Grapes of Wrath, The
Jungles, all of these books are vital to our lives. They shaped the good part of American that made
people here now. These great novels both teach important values and educate children about world
affairs and classic themes. Sadly, these great novels were soon banned from local libraries, schools
and others. Most classical books and stories have been banned because of profanity, sexual ideas,
racial, religious, and witchcraft. Many may think that this is inappropriate, lots of English classes
have read these books that has been assigned. First, I believe that education should be allowed to
everyone who can get their hands on it. Everyone should have the opportunity to read English
literature. Micah Issitt lists "three basic rights cover under the freedom of press: the right to publish,

9. Essay On Banning Books
Since 1982, all kinds of books have been banned for the content they hold. Topics like race, sexually
explicit content, homosexualaity, religion and more. Books are banned by librarians and teachers
because they do not want children or teenagers to read about these topics. Children and teenagers
are told they are not supposed to read these books with harsh topics because they are afraid it could
influence them. They are afraid that books that talk about suicide, like 13 Reasons Why, will
influence teenagers into committing suicide. Books being banned does not mean teenagers or
children will not be able to get ahold of them some way. Just because certain books have topics
teacher, librarians, and parents do not like, does not mean they should be banned from teenagers and
children to read and learn about. Books with these topics can introduce children and teenagers ...

They get banned because of the naked truth of their subjects. Stories that touch on the harsh reality
of racism are deemed inappropriate for school. "The classics have one thing in common: they say
something humanity needs to hear, and they say it masterfully," Was stated in one of the articles.
The classics, along with other stories about the history of the world, tell us things we do not want to
hear. Because of books using harsh topics like what is going on with the world, they get banned
from libraries and schools. Banning books about the world's past and present will not, and does not
change a single thing, other than the children or teenager being under educated over the subjects.

11. Banning The Outsiders
In 1967, a 17–year–old author S.E Hinton, published her first novel from a point of view of a
teenage boy named Ponyboy in The Outsiders. The story takes place in Tulsa, Oklahoma in 1966.
The book introduces two gangs, the Greasers and the Socials. The Greasers are "kids from the poor
side or East Side of town and the Socials or Socs are the rich kids from West–side." (Hinton pg10).
The book started to stir controversy due to the realistic issues of teens involved in gang violence,
alcoholism, and drugs. Challenges to the book came in 1986 in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. The
Outsiders does not deserve to be banned because though the book contains mature material, it
provides an important insight of how teenagers in both social economic groups deal with their
problems. The author of the book, Susan–Elouise Hinton, or S.E Hinton, wrote The Outsiders while
in high school. The author, born in Tulsa, Oklahoma July 22, 1948, like many other girls of the mid

The main character, Ponyboy feels like his life as a Greasers puts him outside of what he considers
the norm, which include parents, structure and living within the law. Another theme of the book
appears in the "black and white world" (Fleming) these characters live in. Constantly at war with
each other, the two gangs "rumble" to solve their issues, no comprise or grey area. They always live
in this world of violence and death, with smoking and drinking, their escape from their pain. Many
young readers empathize with these characters which some adults find to be a dangerous thing.
Influenced teenagers might believe that smoking and drinking make them cool and fighting instead
of talking it out, will solve their problems. The dilemma of planting the seed of poor decision
encourages censorship. With guidance from adults, these readers can learn from the deeper meaning
that with perseverance things will get better that the story

I think that zoos should be banned because I believe that all animal should have freedom and not be
captured and put in a cage and viewed by people. Imagine you're at the zoo and you see a lion
pacing back and forth what do you think? Is he ok?
One reason I think animals should be released into the wild is the people that work at the zoo don't
build them a normal habit by normal I mean may not be the right temperature or not good room. My
evidence is polar bears live in the cold big atlantic at the zoo it's warm and small. I Also think they
should make the habit bigger for the animals. Another fact is the zoo's enclosure is 1000 times
smaller than the freedom they get in the wild. That's why i think animals should be free.

What would you do to make sure that your business does not get shut down? Some restaurants are
already banning teens, some cannot allow minors due to certain laws. The owner of "Munchy's" is
planning on banning teens from noon to 3 p.m. He wants to do this to increase the number of adults
going to the store. Teens can be disruptive, noisy, messy, and do not spend as much money as adults
do, this is why being able to ban teens is a good thing for business. In source two the pie chart and
bar graph show how adult to minor ratio changes drastically as the school year begins. Adult
customers decrease while minors increase, but adult spending is still higher while their numbers are
lower than that of minors. From my personal experience I have witnessed teens to be more chaotic
that adults in public places and sometimes I see it drives people away. They also spend less since
they do not all have jobs or earn so much and not they do not always buy food when they go to

other customers are usually start to leave or do not even bother going into the place since they want
to be somewhere more relaxing to eat. Adults and teens both can be messy and disruptive, but adults
do spend more and are more mature. More adults will start showing up when teens are banned
because the adults will enjoy being in a less chaotic place that is also more sanitary. Restaurants will

Dog lovers and the public have been raving about a topic that has gone viral and is soon to be on the
rise: painless putting band dogs down. It is believed by many around the world that these animals
are vicious, and aggressive by nature. By reason and choice I also believe aggressive pit bulls and
other banned breed dogs should be destroyed by euthanasia, and any further breeding should be
terminated. These specific breeds of dogs are very unpredictable, and are seen to have an aggressive
nature. They also leave a long line of countless and unnecessary deaths in its wake. Some argue if
these dogs cease to exist altogether then there would be no problems, as they would just be replaced
by less vicious dogs. Many people would argue Pit bulls and other banned dogs are always only as
good as the environment they are raised in, and the kind of stress they are put under.

"Protecting one of our most fundamental rights– the freedom to read– means respecting each other's
differences and the right of all people to choose for themselves, what they and their families read."
So, how is it that boards of education are the ones making decisions on books? Which ones should
be censored? What right do they have to do so? The boards are not the ones who should be held
accountable for what books children and adolescents absorb; this is primarily the responsibility of
parents.
Many conservative groups make the argument that the books that have been banned have material
that is inappropriate, immoral or contradicting the beliefs they have ingrained in their children
and/or their society. Book–banning cases usually concern the protection of children and their
innocence, but all that is happening is sheltering parents trying to avoid an awkward confrontation
with their child about uncomfortable matters. It is not only selfish, but also harmful to the overall
education of their children. The touchy subjects of banned books contain issues that are part of
everyday life, and for a group to attempt to censor this subject from younger society is almost
absurd; these issues are not monstrous and the censorship of them not only shows prejudice but lack
of respect. Others would say that it is the government's duty to regulate these books. It is the exact

banning books prevent this, but it also prevents people from being able to learn from real issues that
authors want to share with their readers. The book All Quiet on the Western Front is about a young

Many people don't comprehend how traumatic the life of a young fighter in World War I was. In my
opinion, this book will especially help you understand this. The descriptive language describing the

compassionate for the military troops. In this book, limbs are lost, animals such as horses are killed,
starving soldiers dig through garbage for food, the troops are destroyed by poison gas, munitions,
and bombs. The conditions the fighters went through in the war was dangerous and disturbing which
makes me realize how fortunate my life is and causes me to feel compassion for the fighters because
of what they had to struggle with. In conclusion, I believe this book should not be banned for all my
reasons stated and that banning historical, educational books should be illegal. Many the books that

books to prove that students won't turn into delinquents when studying this literature. Smiley
introduced his eight–grade class to the topic of banned books, and the first lesson the students

should and should not read (Smiley, 55). Parents may feel over protective of their children, because
they worry about their children encountering something that changes them forever; however,
students know what is right for them and what isn't right for them. At the end of the study, many
students felt that banning books was not right, and one student continued with their belief that
choosing what to read is up to the student (Smiley, 56–7). These students attend school to learn right

31. The Banning Of Banning Catcher In The Rye
There are numerous banned books which are removed from shelves due to their controversial
content not only just in America but also around the world. The novel, The Catcher in the Rye,
written by J.D. Salinger is one of the most well–known "censored publications" throughout
American schools. The novel, set in the 1950s, is narrated by a sixteen–year–old boy named Holden
Caulfield. The story begins in a mental hospital where Holden is undergoing treatment. From there,
he tells his account of his expulsion from school and his subsequent lonesome journey throughout
New York, all of which happened leading up to his voluntary admission into the sanitorium. Most of
the novel's adversaries argue that the book should be banned due to its vulgar content including the
constant use of profanity, the apparent thoughts of violence, and the descriptions of sexual activity.
On the contrary, I believe that this novel should not be banned because it brings attention to mental
illness. The most valid argument supporting the banning of The Catcher in the Rye is the abundant
usage of profanity. The novel is composed of a variety of negative language which helps define
Holden's character. Salinger uses multiple words with negative connotations such as: "lousy",
"bastard", "sonuvabitch", and "phony". It is no surprise that "three of the top five words in The
Catcher in the Rye – "goddam", "hell" and "damn" – are curse words..." (Taylor). So, in a "perfect

In most countries around the world, it is not uncommon to see a woman in an article of clothing that
is representative of the Muslim faith and history. This type of dress is typically worn in countries
located in the Middle East. The wardrobe of a woman in these countries would contain articles such
as an al–Amira, burka, or a hijab. Some women wear these clothing items for religious or traditional
purposes, but others wear them solely by choice. However, there are certain countries around the
world that oppose the wearing of certain Muslim–style clothing. One country in particular, Turkey,
does not issue total support of the wearing of headscarves for women. In fact, the government has
issued a ban on the wearing of headscarves by women in government facilitated places. The banning
of the headscarf is a heavily debated subject in Turkey due to political and social beliefs of the
Turkish people. Since the ban was put into existence, the Turkish people, specifically women, have
felt the negative effects that have resulted from it. The headscarf is an item of clothing that is worn
by Turkish women for several reasons, not solely for religious practices. The scarf has a deep history
behind it, stemming from the Ottoman influence on the Middle East. Since the beginning of the

Once upon a time, in a world not far from here, there are students who are forced to miss their
annual train ride to Hogwarts, lock the wardrobe to the magical land of Narnia, and walk through
the English countryside themselves instead of upon the back of Black Beauty. Why are these
students deprived of those occurrences? They live in America, the land of the free– except when it
comes to the books they can read. In fact, many schools across America exercise the practice of
banning books. Since 1982, libraries, parents, and schools have attempted to ban 11,300 novels,
according to the American Library Association. The essentially innoxious books are challenged for
an assortment of reasons, including use of malapropos language, graphic or explicit ... Show more

Supporters of banning say profanity can negatively influence the actions and thoughts of readers,
especially younger readers that may not have heard or read many corrupt words. Huckleberry Finn,
a book commonly inveighed for its use of contentious racial language, is commonly challenged for
that reason. For USA Today, Martha Moore wrote, "When the younger reader is staring at that word
five times on a given page and the instructor is saying, 'Mark Twain didn't mean this and you have to
read it with an appreciation of irony,' you're asking a lot of a younger reader". Granted, foul
vocabulary is a challenge that academies need to address, but not through barring novels. Besides, if
the reader is sufficiently mature for the book, they can still learn from it. For instance, some racial
characterizations do not intentionally persecute people, but show the contrasting tensions between
them, conforming to the time period. Again, the article "Huck Finn Navigating Choppy Waters
Again" revealed, "The word is there for a reason... The word is terrible, it's hurtful, but it's there for
a reason" (Moore). The racial epithets used in that book convey the attitude of Missouri in the 1840s
when friction between African Americans and white people was rising. Additionally, banning a book
due to concerns about the language is not beneficial to pupils because it prevents them from learning
from other components of the book. "Often the organizations or schools that ban these books fail to
see the book as a whole; they often center on the one page, the one scene or even the one word
containing the offensive language or meaning and judge the whole book based on that one aspect,"
according to an article by Adriana Lopez. She makes a sound point. A book contains a whole plot

The practice of censorship and banning of books in learning institution has been prevalent mostly
due to the explicit content incorporated in them. However, banning of certain books in pretense to
conceal content perceived inappropriate to impressionable children is an infringement of their right
to access information of their area of choice. While banning some book at times has valid reasons, it
is important to endorse and emphasize that every child has the liberty to select, at their discretion,
which book to read. While it is agreeable that parents and teachers should play a noble role in

Book censorship and bans only primes to conformity and thus limiting the variety and range of
expression as well as inquiry on which the philosophy depends. Banning and censoring reading
materials is capable of limiting the technological innovations, research as well as creativity. It is
hence the responsibility of the democracy to avail a diversity of views whether popular or unpopular
and else should not coerce the opinions and ideas of some while inhibiting the exertions of others
(Memphis, 1). Rather than banning books content, publishers should rather give complete
connotation to the liberty of reading by providing books capable of enriching the diversity as well as
the quality of knowledge. Reading liberation is of diminutive consequence not unless the reader
obtains materials suiting their purposes. Books should hence not be banned due to diverse peoples

39. Essay On Banning Books
The idea to ban certain books from schools and libraries is preposterous due to the manner in which
the people trying to enforce these bans try to do so in. Banning books doesn't help with the already
present problem that our youth's intelligence levels are already declining, and neither does allowing
the freedom to all books. Banning certain books due to their constant use of inappropriate language,
sexually explicit nature, and all around mature content has a respectfully reasonable reason to be
inaccessible to younger audiences such as minors and teens; not young adults. The banning of books
in libraries is outright inexcusable, unless the material is directly racist, subjective religious content,

there was some info that was important because it showed that some people really care about books

Jihad is a term associated with terrorists who believe in war against nonbelievers. However, the
misinterpretation of this concept has created a prejudice toward the Muslim people. A majority of
the American population, like Donald Trump, are fearful of this approach against believers of other
faiths. In result, he proposes the U.S should ban all Muslims from entering the country. Over two
million Muslim families live in the United States currently. Many have been here for years, and
came to seek a better life. Unfortunately, Muslims are getting a bad reputation because of ongoing
terrorism. Furthermore, the U. S. should not take these steps towards disallowing Muslims to enter
the states. Not only would it create a hostile relationship with other Islamic countries, but it would
be considered discrimination against the faith and go against basic human principles.

51. The Banning Of Banning Catcher In The Rye
Nathaniel Brewer
Mrs. Riley
AP Senior English

Shady Novels
In J.D. Salinger's The Catcher in the Rye, Salinger writes about Holden Caulfield, a teenager who
flunks out of school and goes to be on his own. While doing this, he participates in many negative
actives. Ultimately, readers see how these negative things affect his life with a looming sense of him
wanting to commit suicide. However, this is not a valid reason to ban the novel. Instead critics and
readers should see past these negatives and recognize that the novel gives exposure to young people
who are encountering these issues, instead of hiding them away or banning them. This novel uses
Holden's life as a demonstration of negative aspects including, alcohol and nicotine abuse, sexual
tendencies, and obscene language to help readers better themselves. This benefits readers and
overall is a reason why the novel should not be banned.
A slather some amount of people believe that The Catcher in the Rye fits the criteria of a banned
book. Consequently these particular people immediately assume that Holden is a terrible influence
on young children. But, "In order to shelter students from profanity, is an attempt to do the
impossible. Profanity is found everywhere" (HM). Oftentimes than not, even if you ban this book
children will still hear or see profane words. The cruel language found in this novel is utmost

53. The Banning of Books
Books allow the mind to flourish, to wonder, to become the escape from reality that is desperately
needed from time to time. Books can make no social comment, such as Dr. Seuss's "Hop on Pop",
where the reader is just allowed to escape and go into an alternate reality. Books can also make a
statement about social occurrences at the time, such as Francis Scott Key Fitzgerald's "The Great
Gatsby". Orson Scott Card's "Ender's Game" falls into a category in between where it allows the
reader into an escape from reality while making comments about the society of the time, as well a
look into an exceptional child's mind. All three of these books have something in common; they
have all been at some point have had an individual or several individuals try to ban the book. Most
often those who try to get a book banned do so due to violent or offensive content. However in some
cases the reasons the book gets banned is completely ludicrous, as it is in the case of "Ender's
Game". Card's novel "Ender's Game" was banned in Utah due to the efforts of a Mormon, who got a
hold of a Baptist ban list, unaware of one way to get on that list is to be Mormon (Card Student).
This shows that not all efforts to ban a book stem from the reader being offended by the content; in
cases like this the person banning the book has not even read the book.
"Ender's Game" is an outstanding book, winning both the Nebula and Hugo awards within the first
two years of being published. "Ender's Game" makes

Should Certain Books Be Banned from the School Library? As a congregation of pupils from
different age groups, the school is responsible for teaching and giving students the right information.
There had been debates about whether specific books should be banned from the school library.
Certain books shouldn't be prohibited from the school library because it has strong legal support
(source 1), book banning censors information (source 2), and students will be tempted to access the
banned information. First, the first amendment and many Supreme Court cases vetoed the banning
of books. The first amendment guaranteed the freedom of the press which includes library books. In
addition, in the many Supreme Court cases such as Case v. Unified School District, Minarcini v.

Movies intrigues and help visualize contents a lot better. Also, according to a research conducted
(source 4), people remember 50% of what they see and hear but only 10% of what they read.
Therefore, some contents can be immature if you watch the movie instead of reading a book and
movies leave bigger imprints in students' mind. Finally, censoring information is not a solution.
People can always find a way through the limitations. Mark Twain once said "telling someone they
can't read a book is like telling a man he can't have a steak because a baby can't chew it." Following
up on the example of the Firewall of China, today, people use VPNs to bypass the filter and access
foreign information. In this case, if students can't read a book, they will be more likely to discover
ways to access the book. In the end, book banning will only increase students' desire to read and

bad for the students that are wanting to join them. Most of the students are not aware of the wrong

63. The Effects of Book Banning
Banning books is a practice that has been used all throughout history. It affects many people such as
authors, religious groups, students, and other citizens. When books are banned, it limits the amount
a person can read or learn about a certain topic. Banning books is a key component in the novel,
Fahrenheit 451, as well as in society throughout history. The Banning of books has affected the
world greatly. People have been banning books since they first started being written and are still
getting banned today. Under the United States Constitution, people have freedom of speech and of
the press. People argue that the government is violating citizens' rights by banning books. It has
been going on basically forever because governments feel the need to ban some things that are
found in books (Zorea). The reasons for banning books are usually in one of four categories. These
include religious, political, social, and sexual reasons (Dell 11). Books were censored greatly during
World War I, World War II, and the Great Depression. The United States banned any criticism or
opposition to the war or government. Governments and other organizations feared some books
might endanger the country or government (Hanyok). "During a war, battle plans, troop movement
schedules, weapons data, and other information could help the enemy." Because of this, militaries
often censor books and ban any that might help the enemy (Rupp). Many books that are popular

65. Article Analysis : Harper Lee 's ' Kill A Mockingbird '
A lot of books that get banned are due to having real world events, and certain words that are
censoring students from history, and reality. "Harper Lee's book has been challenged by black
parents who object to the use of the word "nigger"." (Rohrer). Although the word is disrespectful to
use, it's a part of history that can't be erased. "To Kill a Mockingbird" uses the word 58 times in the
book, but without it, the book wouldn't have an accurate representation of that time era. The fact that
some religions, origins, and ethnicities get offended by this is understandable, but by trying to ban
the books from schools it is restricting information from the whole student body not only their child.
The history that is being shown by the use of "nigger" only teaches the time era we have lived and
points out how far we have come from. History is what has happened in the past, and what has
shaped us today. The past defines us and is a reminder of where we came from, but also shows us
what we learned from our mistakes. It initially builds our moral values and is memories of time eras
and accomplishments. Parents can't just erase the events that they don't like, otherwise, they aren't
allowing their children to know the truth of what has happened in our past. This takes away
knowledge from students and ultimately makes them naive. Covering the issues of this world with

The Reasons to Ban Books
Schools are meant to be a safe environment full of books and learning opportunities. If this is
impaired by books that should be banned, students may feel displaced or uncomfortable. Even a
high schooler is prone to this, if action is not taken. There are hundreds of books full of violence,
explicit language, and drug references. Annenberg Classroom says it is "unsuitable for students"
(AnnenbergClassroom.org). Students of all ages are strongly suggested to not partake of those
things, and reading all about them can cause them to think it is acceptable. It is up to administrators
and parents to decide what should be allowed in school libraries. Everybody has different beliefs,

Many school districts do not have "manga"or "anime" banned (Debate.org). This style of literature is
often considered non educational. Books should at least have censorship when profanity or have
sexually explicit content are used. Reading this content as a student is 100% unnecessary. In a study
done in 2000–09 by the American Library Association, about 1,250 books were challenged because
of offensive language. Around 1,600 books were challenged in that same study for being sexually
explicit (Butler.edu). During this, almost all books that were banned were either in school libraries
or schools. A common example of a banned book is Harry Potter by J.Kk. Rowling. This book has a
"presence of witchcraft"'(Butler.edu). In many people's' minds, witchcraft is extremely bad, and
completely unnecessary to discuss those topics. Since many people are against witchcraft, if that
was to be discussed in schools, awful consequences for teacher as well as student could result.
It is understood why somebody may think that books should not be banned at schools because by
doing this parents are hurting their children by restrain their knowledge. When a quality book is
banned, the children lose the opportunity to learn from that book. It is better supported that, some
books should be banned from schools because they can introduce students to unacceptable topics
and teach them bad or useless

This would be taking away our rights through the first amendment. However, the first amendment
states that we have the freedom of the press and freedom of speech, not the freedom of reading what
we want. Another reason books would be banned is because of the suggested content. This could
encourage kids to do wrong things. However, people need to remember that many kids know the
difference between right and wrong and also have the ability to make their own decisions.
Next off, books shouldn't be banned because it allows kids and adults to be able to escape reality.
Some kids might now have a great life at home and books can be a way to be able to forget about
the negative things for a while. This can also apply to school; let's take someone that doesn't have
many friends for example. These kids are able to really get into a book and feel as if they are a part

There are usually two ludicrous reasons as to why books are banned or challenged, one of them is
that someone gets offended by its contents. I see in many cases that a very religious person gets

that some parents may want to protect their children from the more mature content, but by no means
should you ban the book. Someone older and more mature may find this book enlightening! A great
example of this is a parent in Wallingford, Connecticut who filed a complaint against Perks of Being

In order to preserve life, certain laws and regulations are placed to maintain harmony among people,
to protect against any harmful behavior which might impose preventable diseases and death, and
also to act as an awareness and respect for others. In that regard, what are considered public places
in state laws in reference to smoking is very much debatable. It is our duty as individuals to exercise
certain behaviors that will benefit others, regardless of life circumstances and serve our society in
the most respectable manner, in accordance to people rights and choices.

Moreover, the correlation to heart diseases and lung cancer from tobacco smoke is illegitimate. Bast
quotes the British Medical Journal, "the results do not support a causal relation between
environmental tobacco smoke and tobacco–related mortality" (Bast). Some are mainly concerned
with those who work in the tobacco and cigarette business. Most families, especially those in Africa,
survive from framing tobacco, which is one of their biggest exports and income. The resultant of
banning public smoking will in the long run deter the economy and lead to unemployment.
According to one study, "the number of pubs closing per week in Britain doubled after a 2007

enforced.
However, the law doesn't prohibit people from smoking, but it protects others from the harmful

Books should be banned because children shouldn't be exposed to the real world until they are older
and they shouldn't be allowed to get this information from a school or public library. Children
shouldn't be exposed to violence, sex, drug use, or other inappropriate topics until they are old
enough to make their own decisions and be safe about them. Young adults shouldn't have to read
about these things while they are in high school and trying to get an education. Children should be
protected from learning too much about all of these things so that they don't get ideas on doing any
of them. We should be protecting our children from the world as long as we can. Young adults and
children's parents have the right to decide what information and topics their children are reading.
They also can have the right to decide what their children should be exposed to and when. Books
should be banned because parents should have the right to say what their children read and when
