Montgomery Eating Out
It has been a busy week and you are ready to relax, to have great conversation, and an incredible
meal. There are so many fabulous restaurants in Montgomery, Alabama to choose from, that making
a choice is difficult. The first question you might ask yourself is "What am I looking for in a
restaurant in Montgomery, AL"?
Baseball doesn't stand alone when it comes to being a great American pastime... eating is right up
there near the top of the list too. Almost everybody, young, old, and in–between, enjoys eating out...
and it is not always just about the food.
Restaurants in Montgomery AL offer a variety of cuisine and each caters to an array of clientele that
is all their own. Dining out can be a very personal experience, one that fulfills a certain expectation
for the individual. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
What type of ambiance appeals to you? Cleanliness, comfort, and decor all say a lot. The unspoken
feeling you experience when you enter the door can be a hands down win or a deal breaker. There is
a lot to be said about first impressions.
Details are part of the package. Is the seating comfortable? Being uncomfortable will not give you
the desire to linger or return. Is the decor what you were expecting, elegant, ethnic, exotic, or
appropriate for the theme of the restaurant? Is the lighting too much or not enough? What about the
temperature, too hot or too cold? Each of the above does affect your dining experience in a positive
or negative way.
Upon entering a restaurant in Montgomery, AL you want it to be clean. Simpler than that... you
expect it to be clean. Are the tables and seats wiped and set before you are seated? Are the floors
swept or vacuumed? Do the servers look tidy and professional? I hope the smells from the kitchen
fill the air with culinary delight and not odors of stale or rotten

What Would I Be Doing Now If I Tried Out?
Every spring I look forward to the freshly cut grass, the smoothly raked field, and most importantly
squatting ready for the endless pitches. However, I always take a moment to look back and wonder,
what would I be doing now if I hadn't tried out?
Going back almost three years ago, I was just another freshman girl hoping that I could make the
team. I saw the other girls who were clearly more athletic: strong and muscular arms, toned legs,
and not to mention their perfectly tan bodies makes it obvious they played sports. Then, looking at
myself, I got a queasy feeling because I was not in excellent shape like them. I was pale, had
jiggling arms and legs, and was far from muscular. However, I pushed myself during tryout week
and every day I came home drenched ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
On that Friday the list was posted and I scampered over to see if I had made it. "I made the team!" I
remember squealing to my mom when I called her. While practicing everyday I would cowardly
stand waiting for the ball to come to me. I remember towards the end of the season during a practice
the coach had pulled me aside and at that moment I thought to myself "Is today the day I get cut
because I haven't improved enough?" I kept my head up and walked over towards him. He began
talking and I remember him saying, "I can tell you have the potential, but you are still terrified of the
ball." My heart sank further when he said that because the thought of removal, and seconds later I
could feel the tears building up, like an emotional tornado taking over. The next words to come out
of the coach were, "However, I have a great way to demolish your fear if you wish to try." That
made me the person I am today. Of course I knew the exhilarating smile on my face answered his
question. He told me to put on the malodorous catching gear and get in a "catcher position", so I did
and he told me not to put my glove up. As my legs wobble

The Day I Stood Out: A Short Story
William
This day will forever hold an important day in my life.
It was August 13, 1923 and at 15 years old you can't blame me for wanting to see my friends.
Though my mother had told me specifically not to go ,but me being my teenage self, I didn't listen.
So now I was cleaning the attic as my punishment and that's when I saw it. The it I saw was a box
that was pretty hidden but on it in large print was "KEEP OUT" again my teenage instincts kicked
in. So as quietly as I could I crept over to the box lifted the other stuff that was on top of it, though
afterwards I would look in them, lifted the lid and saw nothing of what I had expected. What was in
the box surprised me because for one all that was in that big box was a couple envelopes and two
from the looks of them they were pretty important. The envelopes had nothing on the outside so I
opened them. From the discoloration of the paper it looked as if they had not been touched in over
15 years. When I unfolded the paper I saw was what I thought was adoption papers. Then I heard
my mother call for dinner without thinking I stuffed the envelopes and papers in my jacket. Then put
all of the stuff back on the box and ran downstairs. All throughout dinner my mother and father kept
asking why I was in such a big hurry, but every time they asked I gave them the same answer, "Just
tired and want to go to bed." So they just said "Okay." After dinner I halfway ran up the stairs
jumped onto the bed and pulled out the

Negative Effects Of Coming Out Gay
The Effects of Coming out Gay
Many negative stereotypes are the cause of homosexuals failing to come out the closet to their
friends, family and loved ones. There are also positive effects to coming out as well but the negative
opinions of some has triumphed across the nation during the last decade. Even though it may seem
that our country has come a long way and accepts homosexuals, we still have a long way to go. Why
do such stereotypes override the good effects of coming out gay? Coming out as a homosexual
improves the quality of life such as making the individual feel confident and happier within. My
own experience will serve as an example on how these things can reduce the confidence level in
someone that wants to be open to friends, family and loved ones.
No one wants to admit that they believe some of the stereotypes that get out regarding homosexual
men. However, it is reality that specific stereotypes regarding gay men has erupted in our society
and becoming more prevalent today than in the past. As I mentioned above, I am going to take you
through step by step when I came out the closet and the effect it had on my life and my mental
stability. One of the common stereotypes is "Gay men are promiscuous". I guess it's hard for some
to understand that promiscuity doesn't just favor gay men. This type of stereotype made me think of
what society thought of me and prolonged me coming out. There are others that state that "Gay men
are overly dramatic". These types of

Racism In Out Of Africa
Out of Africa
The novel Out of Africa was a very surprising one, and sadly, the plot wasn't the most surprising
part. After reading this novel, a question left to ponder could be, Is the Author, Karen Blixen, a
racist? What drew some to the conclusion that the author was racist was her overwhelmingly
condescending tone throughout the novel.
The tone in the novel Out of Africa was quite interesting to observe. The author did not have a
positive tone in the novel, despite her love for the beautiful land of Africa. Her tone could be
summed up by the word condescending. One way she sounded condescending was her choice of
similes. One example from the text was when she compared the natives of Africa to dogs. Another
example was how Blixen described Kamante. "I suppose that he had been leading a seclusive
existence, like a sick animal" . It is upsetting to hear Blixen ... Show more content on

Racism is the belief that all members of each race posses(s) characteristics or abilities specific to
that race, especially as to distinguish it as inferior or superior to another race or races. So, when
Blixen states how all of the natives are so silent and explains that the natives answer questions
cryptically she is being racist, by definition. She always talks about the natives in a way that sounds
condescending, and with the less than positive comparisons to white people, one could say she lives
a life filled with prejudice. Blixen goes on to say "I cannot carry the old bwana alone, you Kikuyus
are fools". Here Blixen was generalizing the Kikuyu tribe to be stupid. Blixen always acts like every
native is the same. She fails to recognize the differences between Africans and the similarities
between everyone. She even stated that the natives could only listen to stories to make them seem
less intelligent. In this novel, she has done quite a few things to help the natives but ultimately we
know that she is a racist through her

Similarities Between Anna Karenina And Out Of Africa
"Anna Karenina" and "Out of Africa" are two films that can be compared to a roller coaster ride at a
carnival. A roller coaster ride excites and thrills us but at the very same time we feel anxiety and
fear. The roller coaster rises, falls, twists and turns. This defines the journey of the characters as they
embark upon their travels which are filled with peaks of joy and valleys of heartache, sorrow and
death. The characters are vulnerable and impressionable as they face the dangers of adultery, self–
discovery and feministic resistance. Perceptions, assumptions, fantasy and opinions are formed by
the characters as they embark on their roller coaster ride. This adds to the intrigue and suspense on
their epic journey to uncover their inner truths.
The world is a stage as the aristocratic lives of the characters is showcased in the stylised film
"Anna Karenina". This theatrical rendition creates a dreamlike falseness that is superficial and
unreal. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This thematic resistance to colonial views is exposed by Pollock as he uses the pen and compass
given by Denys to Karen as a symbolic gesture to emphasise that Denys believes that Karen is an
equal to him and that she has the power to write her own story. Ironically, Karen restores Africa to
its former beauty through the use of the pen, compass and her imagination.
When the Karen flies in a plane, she compares looking down to looking through the eyes of God and
her instilled passion for Africa. The natural lighting used in this scene engulfs the simplicity of the
unmodernized world. Flying eptiomises Karen's freedom in a male dominated society and ironically,
the crashing of the yellow biplane is a symbol for the unrealistic eternal happiness that Karen and
Denys desired. Their love story was naïve and idealistic. Denys' true counterparts are the noble
kings of the African plains – the lions. This perfect pairing is portrayed when lions settle on Denys'

Out Of The Silent Planet
In the story "Out of the Silent Planet" by C.S. Lewis, Ransom, a physiology professor at Oxford
University is kidnapped by two men who take him in a spaceship to Mars, or Malacandra as they
call it. They plan on giving him over to the martians who live on Malacandra but Ransom runs away
in fear he will be killed. As the story progresses, Ransom meets all sorts of martians and becomes
immersed in the culture and language of this planet. Ransom is then faced with being called to meet
a certain spirit of the planet and makes a small journey in search of this being. Through his
experiences on Malacandra, Ransom grows in courage, shows his curiosity and exceptional
intelligence. Throughout the story one sees Ransom grow in courage. When he is kidnapped by
Devine and Weston, Ransom loses the fear that they might harm him and tries to escape from his
captors when Devine and Weston think he is asleep. He is however, unable to get away. Throughout
their journey to Malacandra Ransom loses a bit of his confidence and courage and does not try to
fight Devine or Weston's wishes. However, upon arriving at the planet Ransom realizes he is going
to be given over to the Sorns as a sacrifice. When a huge water beast surfaces and scares Weston and
Divine, Ransom takes the opportunity to run away into the unknown land of Malacandra, far away
from his captors. Another example of Ransom's growing courage is when he accepts the Hross'
invitation to hunt for the underwater beast he had

Spilling Out on My Journey
Not consciously aware, I fell asleep in my dreams. My little sister, Anastasia, who is two years
younger came into my room to wake me up. She sat along the boundary of my bed, drawing out my
pillow and playing with my hair. "Andrey, it's almost six. Don't you know we have a family dinner
in one hour? Mum and dad will be here around seven. Get up, you sleepy head." Lazily, I opened
my eyes, staring at my beautiful little sister who was smiling at me. "Where's Andy?" I asked. "He is
in his room, I guess. Just got home around half an hour." "Hey, Ana... was dad upset with me last
night?" I sat up, stretching my body. "I guess so. I didn't hear anything thou', he seemed to enjoy his
event. Maybe Andy knows better. Hey, you know what? You actually looked handsome on that tux,
last night." Anastasia gave me a little pat on my face. I reached her hand and pulled her down on my
bed, messed her long brown hair. "Did mum say anything?" "No... you know mum is always cool
about anything. It's always daddy who is so fussy about all. After all, you know him, Andrey." "Yea,
somewhat, I'm a bit troubled to face him tonight." Anastasia grinned to my replied. "I thought you
are a tough guy," said my sister, teasing me with her cheeky laughter before she left my room. Four
of us were already at the dining table, in our large dining hall, awaiting for the bosses to lead off the
dinner. "Andy, was he truly pissed off last night?" the same question popped–out from my mouth
once again. "Don't worry

Pros And Cons Of Aging Out
You come home on your 18th birthday, and rather than your mom and dad waiting to greet you and
celebrate this milestone with you, your bags are packed and waiting next to the door. For many
foster children, this is a reality. Take John; for example, John is currently a senior at the L&N STEM
Academy who has recently turned 18. Unlike most people, turning 18 wasn't a happy occasion for
him to look forward to. As he neared his 18th birthday, he was not fantasizing about all the freedom
he would soon have. Instead, he was trying to figure out where he would live. Every year more than
23,000 children will age out of the foster care system (Gaille). This can be incredibly straining as
most children who age out are still in high school and don't have time for a full–time job, and
typically, they have not built up a credit score. Without any source of income or a credit score, it can
be nearly impossible for these children to find an apartment or other housing. Some take up couch–
hopping, spending nights on various friends' couches for a few months, but, overall, 1/3 of foster
children who age out spend their first night on the streets, and 1 in 5 are homeless within two years
of aging out (Stout). Aging out also comes with issues regarding education. Emancipated
adolescents are three times more likely to never receive a high school diploma or GED, with only
57% graduating high school by 19. Moreover, 1 in 4 emancipated young adults will be incarcerated
within two years,

Austin Fisher The Three Sides To My Coming Out Analysis
Coming Out Assignment Published by the Huffington Post, 20 year old Austin Fisher voices his
process of coming out in his article entitled "The 3 Sides to my Coming Out Story". I choose to
analyze and reflect on this text for I believe it displays various situations and perceptions in response
to one coming out. The author starts by explaining how he came to terms with himself. When Fisher
was younger he idolized his brother's bravery for announcing his homosexuality to the world. This
planted a seed in Fisher's mind that would not seem to stop growing. Though deep down he knew he
was gay, he was not ready to admit it to himself or the outside world. Instead, Fisher suppressed his
"gay side" and reinvented himself. He got a girlfriend and views "coming out" as overrated, for
Fisher views it as unfair and unjust that because of his inherently "wrong" sexualtity he has to go
through an emotional process of explaining who he is attracted to the people he loves. ... Show more

His parents were less than accepting, for they viewed it as a choice that they should have been
consulted on. Though, eventually they did research on the matter and came to terms with their son's
sexuality. Fisher's peers seemed to have no opinion on the matter. Although he never publicly
announced his sexuality to his class, he told some friends and word got around and he was not
treated differently. While reading this I could not help but wonder if this was because he was in a
relationship with a girl, for hetrosexual relationships are viewed as society's "norm". Would his
peers have been less receptive of his sexual preferences if he was in a same gender

A Message Out Of The Blue
It all started with a message out of the blue. Jenna had been hard at work and was starting to wind
down when she logged onto facebook and saw a message from Nikki. Wow thought Jenna, I
wondered If I would ever hear from you again. Jenna and Nikki had met at university over 10 years
ago and as friends had almost been inseparable. It was a friendship that on one occasion it nearly
became something more. The silence between the two had been almost deafening before routine and
the normal order of the day took over. Thoughts of Nikki slowly began to fade into the background,
the embers only fanned now and then by a smell a song or the thought of the one particular incident
that had pushed them apart. After that incident, Jenna had ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

She was born to wealthy parents and seemingly had every opportunity in the world laid out in front
of her, whereas Jenna had very little.
She had left college and worked hard to build up some cash to take on her first bar. This had been a
success and soon she bought another. Within 8 years, her bars and restaurants were running
smoothly and were highly regarded in the city. She had achieved this with her own hard work and
with little or no help from anyone.
Nikki unsurprisingly also had done well for herself and settled down with Dan a big, handsome guy
that Jenna had noticed from her days on campus. She had seen him drinking in one of her bars once
and had a flirty chat with him. If she was being honest with herself this was the kind of guy that she
would like to settle down with. He was successful, smart and with a certain look in his eye that led
her to think there was more to him than people would imagine.
Jenna had not settled down, far from it. She had a few arrangements in place with men and woman
to ensure nice and unexciting would never be something that she would have to endure. She had
taken control of her life and had the time and resources to fulfil almost any desire that she could
imagine. Her free time was precious and often she like to spend it doing what she loved the most,

Persuasive Essay On Aging Out
According to the National Foster Youth institute, "More than 23,000 children age out of the US
foster care system every year."() Aging out is the process of a teens transitioning from the legal
control of the foster care system, to independent living. Youth aging out of foster care should be
given an extension on foster care services after the age of 18, because it provides a stable home for
teens, it increases the amount of college graduates and it provides healthcare for those in need.
By providing a secure and stable home for teens , it teaches them responsibility and further equips
them with stability in overall life decreasing homelessness rates. Extending foster care services
supplies former foster children with stable homes if they are in need. According to Foster Focus
Magazine, "65% of youth leaving foster care need immediate housing upon discharge"() Housing
after foster care is an immediate issue that comes with aging out. Over 50% of desperate former
foster youth are searching for a home to begin their life independently. Statistics show that, "many
foster youth are placed in homes with complete strangers that sometimes are just as dysfunctional, if
not more, than the homes they were removed from."() Unfortunately there are children in foster care
that often get bounced from home to home never really knowing when they are safely sheltered.
Some children find it better to live on the menacing streets of state's, where they are homeless, than
to be in a home

Literature Review Of The Out Of Body Experience
The out of body experience is a phenomenon experienced by a significant percentage of the
population. During this experience, an individual perceives his or her environment from a point of
view that is separate from his or her physical body. In some cases, individuals have reported looking
down upon their own bodies, although Irwin (2000) suggested that the details of the experience may
be determined by the individual's immediate needs. For instance, in a life threatening situation, one
may perceive a paradisal environment (commonly noted in near death experiences). Typically,
psychological processes such as memory, thought, and perception are unified and a separation of
these processes is known as dissociation. Because the out of ... Show more content on

During the study, postal questionnaires were completed by 113 university students, including 28
men and 85 women. These questionnaires were comprised of three surveys. The first brief set of
questions pertained to demographic information and the experience and frequency of out of body
experiences. The second survey was the Dissociative Experiences Scale (DES), which was used to
generate scores regarding both pathological dissociation and nonpathological dissociation (or
psychological absorption). Finally, the Somatoform Dissociation Questionnaire (SDQ–20) was used
to measure the participant's proneness to somatoform dissociation. Within the questionnaires, 44 of
the 113 participants reported having had an out of body experience. To determine the relationship
between dissociation and the out of body experience, the explored variables were examined in a
logistic regression analyses. This showed the the SDQ–20 was the only independent variable that
was able to separate the participants who had acknowledged out of body experiences from those
who did not. Additionally, the SDQ–20 was also the only variable that significantly contributed to
the prediction of the frequency of out of body experiences. This, not only suggested that the out of
body experience was related to dissociative phenomena, but also indicated a relationship between
somatoform dissociation, specifically, and out of body experiences. Accordingly,

Personal Narrative: Coming Out
Coming out.
For the most part when people think coming out, they think of an all at once announcement telling
the whole world that you're gay, then, having a lot of long emotional talks with your family. They
think of it as everything changing. For the most part, that's from the eyes of people who will never
really have to come out as anything. As for myself, coming out was none of those things and nothing
seemed to have really changed at all. For me it was something that took a lot of learning, but in the
end it was well worth it.
I was raised in a heteronormative environment, where everyone always assumed I would be straight,
marry a man and have kids and that was the only way my life could be. I knew gay people existed of
course, but I ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
That is, until I walked into second period, geography and again in third period french, where I saw
her. Curly blonde hair and perfect blue eyes, she was absolutely stunning. I definitely had a crush on
her, but I was not gay. I would not let this crush keep me from continuing to be straight, continuing
to be normal. So I pushed it down again. Little did I know she would eventually be my best friend,
and we would laugh about it together.
A few months later a friend came out to our group as bisexual, then later pansexual and she started
attending the school's weekly GSA meetings. That little coming out started a spark in my mind, and
everything started to make a lot of sense. Maybe there was more to life than just straight or gay,
more ways a person could be.
Over the course of grade 9, I was still very brainwashed to automatically assume that everybody was
straight until proven otherwise. So crushes on girls really didn't last longer than a week or two. I
didn't have a chance and I knew it, so I'd lose interest really quickly. I kept pushing it down,
pretending it wasn't happening, but at least I was starting to understand what I was feeling. I
continued to only ever tell anybody about the crushes I had on boys, and I felt

Film Analysis Of Blow Out And The 1976 Film Carrie
The 1981 film Blow Out and the 1976 film Carrie are just two of over thirty films directed by Brian
De Palma. Although they span an array of genres and topics, De Palma's films are recognizable by
his distinct director's touch. De Palma's films adhere to Andrew Sarris's concept the auteur theory,
which posits that each film contains the director's distinguishable artistic personality. This artistic
nature of both the film and director is evident in the unique and consistent visual style and thematic
elements present in each of the films. Blow Out and Carrie are executed with control and a special
attention to detail, so that each shot and scene is carefully constructed and inserted intentionally to
drive the plot forward. De Palma's films contain an expert use of visual grammar, in which the
stories are told as much with camera moves and editing as dialogue. Like many of his films, Blow
Out and Carrie feature certain trademark elements of De Palma's work: the recurring theme of the
male gaze, and the use of cinematic devices including a split diopter lens, slow motion, and 360
degree pan. De Palma's use of these recurring cinematic tropes enable him to simultaneously place
his unique director's touch on these films as he crafts suspense filled visual masterpieces. Blow Out
and Carrie exhibit the recurring theme of looking and the male gaze present in much of De Palma's
work. The films adhere to Laura Mulvey's three forms of looking: the camera, the audience, and the

I Had Never Get Out Of Your Head
You know that experience you have that you can really never get out of your head? It is not a good
memory, one you will probably not tell your mother about until you are well in your forties? I had
one of those during my second week of college. My group of friends that experienced this night with
me included my roommate Dionia, Reggie, Reginald, and Fredrek. I met Reggie through Dionia,
they are both from Orangeburg, SC and attended the same high school. Reginald is Reggie's
roommate which is how I met Reginald, and Fredrek is Reginald's friend. Fredrek, Reginald and I
all happen to be from the same town so we all clicked instantly. The second week of school we were
all ready to go out and had some fun, that night we decided to meet up in my dorm so we could go
out together. Until that night on Franklin Boulevard I had never felt so scared and helpless in my
life.
I was never a person to go out and party in my hometown, but being 18 and in college I decided I
would branch out a little but not to where I would be uncomfortable. Coming to Greensboro I knew
there were parts of the city that were prone to violence, being new to the city I did not know where
those areas were just yet. We decided earlier in the week that we were going to go out that Saturday,
Fredrek started looking on Snapchat for addresses or any flyers for parties that we could go to. He
found two, one was downtown at a "club" and the other was a house party. The night we were going

Fiscal Policy, Crowding out, Supply-side, Economics
Economics Assignment #2
Question I. Fiscal Policy and the Crowding Out Effect.
(a) What is the essence of the accounting identity (the so called saving investment identity) that the
two distinguished professors refer to?
Saving investment identity is a concept in National Income accounting that states that the amount
saved (S) in an economy is equal to the amount invested (I). It is an equilibrium expressed in terms
of supply (S), and demand (I), for lending (loan–able funds). Sp (Private Saving) + Sg or (T–G)
(Government Saving or Budget Balance) = I.
The authors are assuming full employment, where S=I.
The saving "identity" where S=I holds true by ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Again, they are assuming the economy is at full employment or full potential when in fact, we are
below full employment. Therefore the savings investment identity does not prove anything about the
effectiveness of fiscal policy. Fiscal policy is a completely valid and effective method to expand the
economy and move towards full employment. Fiscal policy can raise GDP, create jobs, increase
income, etc... which is very beneficial. How can these professors be so ignorant of the full picture?
They are not taking all the proper details into account it's very surprising.
Again, we are in a recession, this allows GDP to rise. An increase in G, increases GDP, which
increases S. Therefore the actual degree at which interest rates rise and investments fall is not in line
with what the professors think. They're off. They have not accounted for the rise in GDP and have
mistakenly assumed full employment and 100% crowding out effect when this is clearly not the case
in a recession.
An example from the text that illustrates the flaw in their argument:
"In the case of [government] infrastructure spending, MPKf rises, so investment increases. Saving
shifts and investment shifts. With upward shifts in both saving and investment, the new equilibrium

The company I have selected for this advertising campaign is In–N–Out. I will start with a brief

was founded in the city of Baldwin Park, California. In–N–Out was California's first drive– thru

Aging Out Movie Analysis
In the documentary "Aging Out" directed by Roger Weisber, it is noticeable how these three
teenagers (Risa, David, and Danielle) were trying to get out of the Foster Care System and become
independent adults. However, each one of them struggled with their task of becoming an
independent person. I will provide you with one of the sociological paradigms that I believe is
strong within the documentary. Structural– Functionalism Theory, which attempts to focus on the
relationship between social institutions that are made up by society. The documentary gives perfect
examples of Functionalism because we can notice that those teenagers have all received criticisms
from all adults who are in their lives. Criticism is a big contributor to social change (which they
experienced) because people use repetitive behavior since they only do what they have applied it, to
overcome problems in the foster system, all they have accumulated from criticisms and see no way
to better themselves. Nonetheless, one big contributor to the way these teenagers have felt with
trying to enter into society is a sociological institute, which makes them meet social needs, for
example the government, it tries maintain stability and contribute to the well being, and be a society
as an integrated whole. All three teenagers were in foster care and in order for them to do good in
society they need to follow rules and be a certain way to succeed in the "real world" (society).
Therefore, navigating from teenage

Analysis of the Movie Out of the Past
The movie Out of the Past directed by Jacques Tourneur fits within the traditions of film noir
because it has some similar themes associated with it, such as doomed love. Robert Mitchum plays
the doomed, double–crossed , ex–private eye as Jeff Markham. The femme fatale is played by Jane
Greer as Kathie Moffat, who is trying to escape her future. Kirk Douglas as Whit Sterling plays the
ruthless gangster czar in the film. The formal cinematic elements in the movie are used to vividly
describe the movie. You can see that the lighting is very shadowy and dark. The composition of the
film leaves the audience feeling trapped within Jeff's problems. For example, when Jeff starts his
journey from Mexico to San Francisco we the audience start to ... Show more content on

Also, throughout the film shadow's are splashed over Jeff like a deadly visual benediction, showing
doomed fate. Flashback Analysis Throughout the movie Jeff tells us the story through the flashback.
He is telling his flashback to Ann, a girl he's in love with. The time period is set three years back and
is narrated by Jeff. The flashback is the backbone of the movie because it shows the audience how
the whole situation started and ended. Over half the movie is told through the flashback which is
important because it shows that the character chooses to focus on the past instead of the present. The
flashback is told because Jeff is going to Lake Tahoe to handle some unfinished business and he
decides to let Ann in on the truth. Jeff was working for Whit and was assigned to find the girl who
stole Whit's money. The flashback goes into great detail throughout the whole situation. The theme
passion is shown when Jeff meets up with Kathie. Soon enough he forgets all about getting the forty
grand and returning Kathie to Whit. Jeff fell for Kathie so they ran away to San Francisco. The
characters in the flashback are shown to be a litte edgy. Fore example, when Kathie first meets Jeff,
she plays hard to get, pretending she is uninterested in him. On the other hand, Jeff plays it smooth
and doesn't let it faze him. The whole flashback sets us up for the ending and

The Importance Of Being Accepted When Coming Out As A Gay...
The Importance of Being Accepted When coming out as a gay individual, there is a desire to be
loved and accepted for who they are by the family. When parents reject their child's sexual
orientation it often comes to kicking the child out of their home out of shame for their sexuality. In
recent statistics, 'Studies indicate that between 25% and 50% of homeless youth are LGBT and on
the streets because of their sexual orientation or gender identity' (Pflagnyc, Statistics You Should
Know About Gay and Transgender Students). LGBT youth's also have an increased chance of living
in an abusive household with older parents due to a contrast of two different generations. The young
generation of today is more susceptible to accepting LGBT members because it is a more liberal
time period. However, the older generations are most likely to shun them due to biblical or
principals that they grew up with. The more accepting parents are of things they cannot change, the
happier the child often is after coming out to them. Homelessness has become an issue in recent
years as more teens are starting to come out to their parents, who have lived in the previous
generation. Religion has played a key part in the rejection of LGBT youth's due to its blunt
statements like, "Thou shalt not lie with mankind, as with womankind: it is abomination" (Bible 98).
Older generations examine and follow the bible more closely than the newest generation and take
certain verses to heart. Because they read that

clan is a bit stirred at having to deal with a woman, but gives in to her proposition, giving
permission for his people to work for her. Being a woman was also a challenge later in her life and
the movie, when her husband, Bror, goes off to defend the country from an ensuing war. Left to run
the coffee plantation alone, Karen finds the strength to commit to the job. She fights off a lion

The biggest challenge Karen faced in the movie and her life was the barrier she had to overcome to

In the face of the racial rules of the time, Farah, by many accounts, was

Out Stealing Horses Analysis
In the novel, Out Stealing Horses by Per Petterson, a 67 year–old man named Trond who lives in
solitude in Norway reflects back on the summer of 1948 where several significant events changed
his life. It follows his progression of growing up and starting to understand more about the people
and surroundings that revolve around his life and how they've shaped him into becoming a mature
and wise man. Eventually, he realizes the truth that growing up is inevitable and accepts the fact that
things will never be the same again. In Out Stealing Horses, Petterson uses the motif and imagery of
water to show how Trond's familiarity and interactions with the river reflects his gradual process of
maturing from a innocent boy into a stronger man. As a young boy, Trond's interactions with water
illustrates his innocence, showing his youthful behavior and preservation of innocence. Growing up,
water has played a huge role in Trond's life; He would often go out, "fishing for trout in the river"
(15) or "riding logs down the river" (15). These activities that Trond engages in reflects Trond's
close bond with the river and how it brought out his adventurous and youthful behavior. The
dynamic environment of the river and the never–ending flow of water is symbolic of Trond's
constant energetic youth. As a kid, Trond was always outside admiring the beauty of nature or out
stealing horses, and the river provided him the opportunity to do that. In order to go out stealing
horses, Trond had to "row across the river"(32), in which the river acted as the path or gateway that
led Trond to his next adventure. In addition, the river also represents Trond's reluctance to change or
grow out of his childhood. Trond recalls, "I could immerse myself in water up to my chin and
remain the person I was"(101). This highlights the idea that the river is a comfort zone in which
Trond is able to submerge himself in and stay youthful. Trond doesn't want to grow out of his
childhood and the river protects his innocence. Even with the "current pounding away and pulling at
his body,"(101) Trond felt untouched and remained the same person. This shows how the river
maintains Trond's growth into a man and it serves to show that Trond is the "anchor of

Out Of The Dust Character Analysis
The novel "Out of the Dust," by Karen Hesse is a story that teaches great lessons and a story could
have happened to anyone or make an impact on anyone's life. In this novel, there is a young girl
named Billie Jo. She has a rough life with not a lot of good things mixed in. She has a lot of
downfalls in her life with a couple of uprisings. Even though she doesn't have the best life she is
grateful for what she does have. Her life taught me and could teach others to be thankful and

times, soon good things will come out of it because everything happens for a reason. Billie Jo's life
was the one that you wouldn't call a dream life to have. She had a really rough life. In the beginning

Should Henry Come Out Of The Closet Essay
Question: Should Henry (the 15 year old boy) come out of the closet and not keep his sexuality a
secret from his family and friends? Yes, I feel that Henry should come out of the closet. Ethical
Principle 1 (Rights): Sexual orientation is inherent in every human being. It is something beyond our
control and it wasn't Henry's choice to be homosexual. It is his basic human right to decide if he
wants to 'come out'. If he does, he should not be judged as he definitely has reasons for doing so. He
is probably tired of 'hiding' himself and what he truly is. Homosexuals are human as well. It is
wrong for society to place Henry as a subject for discrimination just because they perceive
homosexuality as unacceptable. Instead, he deserves equal rights ... Show more content on

People are judgmental and will discriminate when they can't accept differences. "When trouble
comes, it is your family that supports you" – Guy Lafleur. In worse case scenarios where his own
family is unable to accept his sexuality, what more can we expect from the cruel society? It may
result in Henry living in self–destruction and psychological distress. Addressing the negative
impact: Since family acceptance would mean the greatest, my suggestion is to put Henry's family
through counselling. Although it may be a long process, it will help change their perceptions and
slowly accept Henry for who he is. There is a need for society to learn to accept homosexuals. One
solution is to increase the number of counselling and support centres. By doing so, it encourages
more homosexuals to accept themselves, thus making it more socially acceptable. We should not
stress over the way others choose to live – let people love who they love. Question: Should Jane (the
wife and mother of one child) divorce her husband who has not been treating her with respect and

Emotions In Karen Hesse's 'Out Of The Dust'
In the book, Out of the Dust, written by Karen Hesse, readers can experience the many emotions of
a teenage girl coming of age in the harsh climate of the Dust Bowl and Great Depression. The novel
is historical fiction, written in first person and free verse poetry. The main character, Billie Jo writes
of her turbulent time from the ages of 13 to 14 years, in the form of journal entries. Each entry is
titled and broken down into seasons rather than specific dates. There are several themes repeated in
the story, such as forgiveness, escape, healing and hope.
In the winter of 1934, Billie Jo is 13 and through journal entries, we learn of her mother, father and a
few others from a small farming community in the panhandle of Oklahoma. She describes herself as
a long–legged, red head with freckles, a good student and passionate piano player. Billie Jo learns
her mother is expecting and is excited about the new baby. She writes about typical teenage issues
like a friend moving away, school and playing piano. In the summer of 1934, Billie Jo's life takes a
turn for the worse when she and her father are to blame for a horrific accident that claims the life of
her mother and infant brother. A bucket of kerosene is left by the stove by Billie Jo's father. Her

Impact Of Opt Out Systems
IMPACT OF OPT OUT SYSTEMS
The Taskforce consider opting out information to be more sensitive in nature than information
provided by opting in Organ Donation Register ( Organ Donation Taskforce , 20). The current is
based on an open access website with an electronic register that is available to all hospital staff. In
an opt–out system, not registering in this register may mean that someone's organs may be taken
when they have had a serious objection to this. Theoretically, it is possible for someone to re–enter
someone's name on the register without them knowing, although there is no evidence to suggest that
this will happen on a wide scale. This is why some may argue that an opt–out system would require
far greater security due to the sensitive nature of the information. This information could be
accommodated on the Personal Demographics Service ( Organ Donation Taskforce , 2008) but
entering all this data would be a drain on the NHS resources especially at the start of an opt–out
system which would involve entering the data of several million people. People may also choose to
be increasingly specific about which organs or tissues they choose to donate as medicine advances
so the framework required for would be rather complex. This would also take a large toll on the
funds provided to the NHS with the costs of for the setup of IT and communications approximating
to £45 million. An additional £5 million per year is needed to refresh public messages and an

The Effects of Coming out Gay
Why is it so difficult to come out as a Homosexual male? There are several reasons some might hide
their sexuality for a longer time than anticipated. It has also been proven that coming out as a
homosexual can improve quality of life such as making the individual feel confident and happier
within themselves. With the favorable effects also come the adverse effects of coming out. Some of
these reasons may include, but for sure not limited to, dealing with stereotypes from the community,
being disowned by loved ones and encountering homophobic individuals. Today I will tell my
experience of coming out as a homosexual male to my friends and family. I will also share with you
their reactions, comments and the ridiculous stereotypes that lingered and potentially could've

No one wants to admit that they believe some of the stereotypes that get out regarding homosexual
men. However, it is reality that specific stereotypes regarding gay men has erupted in our society
and becoming more prevalent today than in the past. As I mentioned above, I am going to take you

Lgbtq Coming Out Model
Coming–out LGBTQ is a highly individual and personal process, where one concedes and affirms
their sexual orientation or gender identity, and deciding if, who and when to tell (1). Studies show
that the nature of the process is 'ongoing, dynamic and social' because of the diversity and
complexity of individual humanity. It is particular to each person's unique circumstances.
Sometimes the process is within their control, other times it is far more complex. Coming–out can
be as simple as revealing ones self–acceptance of sexual orientation or a terrifying journey of
confronting fear and concern for safety, leaving some to remain closeted for most of their life.
Coming–out has certainly its advantages and disadvantages. However, despite the ... Show more

The LGBTQ stops fighting and comes to accept who they are, making peace with their sexual
orientation or gender identity. Once the process of internal acceptance has occurred, the LGBTQ
may decide to come out to others. Disclosing to others is a personal and individual process with
respective timelines. Some LGBTQ's may feel that it is a necessity to disclose while another's
experience might be more complex involving vulnerability to fear and concern for their safety.
During this time the LGBTQ generally weighs the advantages, disadvantages and risks, recognizing
what they have to lose or gain. Acceptance by others at this point is crucial to developing a positive
self–esteem and self–concept. Acceptance by others usually paves the way to tell more people as the
LGBTQ finds acceptance for who they are. Rejection will validate the negative feeling that the
LGBTQ started out with, further injuring their self–esteem and causing them to return to
internalizing their identity as seen in the pre–coming out phase (2). Because acceptance is necessary
to the development of a healthy self–concept, it is important for the LGBTQ to cautiously choose
whom they will disclose their identity to. The more significant the relationship the greater the
impact disclosure will have on the LGBTQ's self–esteem. Studies show that support from family
and friends is significant to healthy identity development (3). This process of revealing sexual
identity to important relationships can take a long time. Just as it took a while for the LGBTQ to
assimilate and process during the pre–coming out phase, family and friends take time to accept the

Is The Theme Of Power In The Film Out Of Sight By Steven...
In the film Out of Sight (Steven Soderbergh, 1998) elements of mise en scene, lighting, editing and
characters reveal the themes of identity, love and power. The theme of power directly relates to the
economic boom in the United States in the 1990s and the population's strive for success. These
themes are brought out through the repetitive use of the color red in the film and are also used to
relate back to the title.
In relation to other American action films released in 1998, Out of Sight is a very fast faced movie
much like the rest of them. The fast paced editing style that Soderbergh utilized in the film relates
very much to the race to power that was so prevalent in the 1990s. When the economy started to

Aging Out of the Foster Care System
According to the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, every year close to 25,000 youth
age out of the foster care system and are faced with cold hard realities of adulthood. This does not
include the youth who leave the system, which is estimated to be another 30,000. Most adolescents
anticipate their eighteenth birthday, as it brings on a new found sense of independence and most
importantly a time of celebration. However when foster children reach eighteen, they begin facing
the challenges of transitioning to adulthood. These children disproportionately join the ranks of the
homeless, incarcerated, and unemployed. These youth are unprepared for the independent life they
are forced to take on. The average age that young adults who have never experienced foster care
leave their family home for good is 24, and 40% return home again at least once afterwards
(Margolin, 2008). With these facts being stated, we yet expect youth who has dealt with rejection
after rejection to leave "home" of the state custody permanently and fin for themselves. These youth
sometimes have fewer than $250 in cash, only one–third have drivers licenses, and fewer than one–
quarter have the basic tools to set up a household, let alone the skills to know what to do with the
tools (Krinsky, 2010). Youth exit care with no more than a garbage bag of their belongings, finding
themselves alone at the age of eighteen, with little reason to celebrate what is supposed to be an

Coming Out From Behind The Badge
AJ 25 Book Critique– (HANNA SANSOM – Spring 2016)
Book
Miraglia, G. (2007). Coming out from behind the badge. Bloomington, IN: AuthorHouse.
Summary
Coming out from behind the badge is a novel written by a gay police officer named Greg focusing
on homosexuality in the law enforcement profession. Throughout part I of the novel, Greg uses his
own personal stories, as well as other's personal stories, to help those going into law enforcement
have a better understanding of homosexuality in the workplace. Following in part II, Greg gives step
by step advice about coming out of the closet to fellow gay officers, and the ways to create an
accepting workplace for the LGBT community.
By giving perspectives of both gay men in the workplace and straight men who have encountered
gay men in the workplace, it gives the reader real life examples of what it can be like. This book
gives great advice for those who are looking to come out in law enforcement as well as giving good
advice to those who may have fellow LGBT coworkers. It really shows LGBT officers options about
what they can do about coming out in their department while still ensuring a successful law
enforcement career.
Coming out can be scary for both the person coming out and the people they are telling, and
Miraglia does a great job of acknowledging this is the book and giving solutions. The person
coming out is terrified of what they will think, and the person

  • 1. Montgomery Eating Out It has been a busy week and you are ready to relax, to have great conversation, and an incredible meal. There are so many fabulous restaurants in Montgomery, Alabama to choose from, that making a choice is difficult. The first question you might ask yourself is "What am I looking for in a restaurant in Montgomery, AL"? Baseball doesn't stand alone when it comes to being a great American pastime... eating is right up there near the top of the list too. Almost everybody, young, old, and in–between, enjoys eating out... and it is not always just about the food. Restaurants in Montgomery AL offer a variety of cuisine and each caters to an array of clientele that is all their own. Dining out can be a very personal experience, one that fulfills a certain expectation for the individual. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... What type of ambiance appeals to you? Cleanliness, comfort, and decor all say a lot. The unspoken feeling you experience when you enter the door can be a hands down win or a deal breaker. There is a lot to be said about first impressions. Details are part of the package. Is the seating comfortable? Being uncomfortable will not give you the desire to linger or return. Is the decor what you were expecting, elegant, ethnic, exotic, or appropriate for the theme of the restaurant? Is the lighting too much or not enough? What about the temperature, too hot or too cold? Each of the above does affect your dining experience in a positive or negative way. Upon entering a restaurant in Montgomery, AL you want it to be clean. Simpler than that... you expect it to be clean. Are the tables and seats wiped and set before you are seated? Are the floors swept or vacuumed? Do the servers look tidy and professional? I hope the smells from the kitchen fill the air with culinary delight and not odors of stale or rotten ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 3. What Would I Be Doing Now If I Tried Out? Every spring I look forward to the freshly cut grass, the smoothly raked field, and most importantly squatting ready for the endless pitches. However, I always take a moment to look back and wonder, what would I be doing now if I hadn't tried out? Going back almost three years ago, I was just another freshman girl hoping that I could make the team. I saw the other girls who were clearly more athletic: strong and muscular arms, toned legs, and not to mention their perfectly tan bodies makes it obvious they played sports. Then, looking at myself, I got a queasy feeling because I was not in excellent shape like them. I was pale, had jiggling arms and legs, and was far from muscular. However, I pushed myself during tryout week and every day I came home drenched ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... On that Friday the list was posted and I scampered over to see if I had made it. "I made the team!" I remember squealing to my mom when I called her. While practicing everyday I would cowardly stand waiting for the ball to come to me. I remember towards the end of the season during a practice the coach had pulled me aside and at that moment I thought to myself "Is today the day I get cut because I haven't improved enough?" I kept my head up and walked over towards him. He began talking and I remember him saying, "I can tell you have the potential, but you are still terrified of the ball." My heart sank further when he said that because the thought of removal, and seconds later I could feel the tears building up, like an emotional tornado taking over. The next words to come out of the coach were, "However, I have a great way to demolish your fear if you wish to try." That made me the person I am today. Of course I knew the exhilarating smile on my face answered his question. He told me to put on the malodorous catching gear and get in a "catcher position", so I did and he told me not to put my glove up. As my legs wobble ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 5. The Day I Stood Out: A Short Story William This day will forever hold an important day in my life. It was August 13, 1923 and at 15 years old you can't blame me for wanting to see my friends. Though my mother had told me specifically not to go ,but me being my teenage self, I didn't listen. So now I was cleaning the attic as my punishment and that's when I saw it. The it I saw was a box that was pretty hidden but on it in large print was "KEEP OUT" again my teenage instincts kicked in. So as quietly as I could I crept over to the box lifted the other stuff that was on top of it, though afterwards I would look in them, lifted the lid and saw nothing of what I had expected. What was in the box surprised me because for one all that was in that big box was a couple envelopes and two from the looks of them they were pretty important. The envelopes had nothing on the outside so I opened them. From the discoloration of the paper it looked as if they had not been touched in over 15 years. When I unfolded the paper I saw was what I thought was adoption papers. Then I heard my mother call for dinner without thinking I stuffed the envelopes and papers in my jacket. Then put all of the stuff back on the box and ran downstairs. All throughout dinner my mother and father kept asking why I was in such a big hurry, but every time they asked I gave them the same answer, "Just tired and want to go to bed." So they just said "Okay." After dinner I halfway ran up the stairs jumped onto the bed and pulled out the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 7. Negative Effects Of Coming Out Gay The Effects of Coming out Gay Many negative stereotypes are the cause of homosexuals failing to come out the closet to their friends, family and loved ones. There are also positive effects to coming out as well but the negative opinions of some has triumphed across the nation during the last decade. Even though it may seem that our country has come a long way and accepts homosexuals, we still have a long way to go. Why do such stereotypes override the good effects of coming out gay? Coming out as a homosexual improves the quality of life such as making the individual feel confident and happier within. My own experience will serve as an example on how these things can reduce the confidence level in someone that wants to be open to friends, family and loved ones. No one wants to admit that they believe some of the stereotypes that get out regarding homosexual men. However, it is reality that specific stereotypes regarding gay men has erupted in our society and becoming more prevalent today than in the past. As I mentioned above, I am going to take you through step by step when I came out the closet and the effect it had on my life and my mental stability. One of the common stereotypes is "Gay men are promiscuous". I guess it's hard for some to understand that promiscuity doesn't just favor gay men. This type of stereotype made me think of what society thought of me and prolonged me coming out. There are others that state that "Gay men are overly dramatic". These types of ... • 9. Racism In Out Of Africa Out of Africa The novel Out of Africa was a very surprising one, and sadly, the plot wasn't the most surprising part. After reading this novel, a question left to ponder could be, Is the Author, Karen Blixen, a racist? What drew some to the conclusion that the author was racist was her overwhelmingly condescending tone throughout the novel. The tone in the novel Out of Africa was quite interesting to observe. The author did not have a positive tone in the novel, despite her love for the beautiful land of Africa. Her tone could be summed up by the word condescending. One way she sounded condescending was her choice of similes. One example from the text was when she compared the natives of Africa to dogs. Another example was how Blixen described Kamante. "I suppose that he had been leading a seclusive existence, like a sick animal" . It is upsetting to hear Blixen ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Racism is the belief that all members of each race posses(s) characteristics or abilities specific to that race, especially as to distinguish it as inferior or superior to another race or races. So, when Blixen states how all of the natives are so silent and explains that the natives answer questions cryptically she is being racist, by definition. She always talks about the natives in a way that sounds condescending, and with the less than positive comparisons to white people, one could say she lives a life filled with prejudice. Blixen goes on to say "I cannot carry the old bwana alone, you Kikuyus are fools". Here Blixen was generalizing the Kikuyu tribe to be stupid. Blixen always acts like every native is the same. She fails to recognize the differences between Africans and the similarities between everyone. She even stated that the natives could only listen to stories to make them seem less intelligent. In this novel, she has done quite a few things to help the natives but ultimately we know that she is a racist through her ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 11. Similarities Between Anna Karenina And Out Of Africa "Anna Karenina" and "Out of Africa" are two films that can be compared to a roller coaster ride at a carnival. A roller coaster ride excites and thrills us but at the very same time we feel anxiety and fear. The roller coaster rises, falls, twists and turns. This defines the journey of the characters as they embark upon their travels which are filled with peaks of joy and valleys of heartache, sorrow and death. The characters are vulnerable and impressionable as they face the dangers of adultery, self– discovery and feministic resistance. Perceptions, assumptions, fantasy and opinions are formed by the characters as they embark on their roller coaster ride. This adds to the intrigue and suspense on their epic journey to uncover their inner truths. The world is a stage as the aristocratic lives of the characters is showcased in the stylised film "Anna Karenina". This theatrical rendition creates a dreamlike falseness that is superficial and unreal. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This thematic resistance to colonial views is exposed by Pollock as he uses the pen and compass given by Denys to Karen as a symbolic gesture to emphasise that Denys believes that Karen is an equal to him and that she has the power to write her own story. Ironically, Karen restores Africa to its former beauty through the use of the pen, compass and her imagination. When the Karen flies in a plane, she compares looking down to looking through the eyes of God and her instilled passion for Africa. The natural lighting used in this scene engulfs the simplicity of the unmodernized world. Flying eptiomises Karen's freedom in a male dominated society and ironically, the crashing of the yellow biplane is a symbol for the unrealistic eternal happiness that Karen and Denys desired. Their love story was naïve and idealistic. Denys' true counterparts are the noble kings of the African plains – the lions. This perfect pairing is portrayed when lions settle on Denys' ... • 15. Spilling Out on My Journey Not consciously aware, I fell asleep in my dreams. My little sister, Anastasia, who is two years younger came into my room to wake me up. She sat along the boundary of my bed, drawing out my pillow and playing with my hair. "Andrey, it's almost six. Don't you know we have a family dinner in one hour? Mum and dad will be here around seven. Get up, you sleepy head." Lazily, I opened my eyes, staring at my beautiful little sister who was smiling at me. "Where's Andy?" I asked. "He is in his room, I guess. Just got home around half an hour." "Hey, Ana... was dad upset with me last night?" I sat up, stretching my body. "I guess so. I didn't hear anything thou', he seemed to enjoy his event. Maybe Andy knows better. Hey, you know what? You actually looked handsome on that tux, last night." Anastasia gave me a little pat on my face. I reached her hand and pulled her down on my bed, messed her long brown hair. "Did mum say anything?" "No... you know mum is always cool about anything. It's always daddy who is so fussy about all. After all, you know him, Andrey." "Yea, somewhat, I'm a bit troubled to face him tonight." Anastasia grinned to my replied. "I thought you are a tough guy," said my sister, teasing me with her cheeky laughter before she left my room. • 17. Pros And Cons Of Aging Out You come home on your 18th birthday, and rather than your mom and dad waiting to greet you and celebrate this milestone with you, your bags are packed and waiting next to the door. For many foster children, this is a reality. Take John; for example, John is currently a senior at the L&N STEM Academy who has recently turned 18. Unlike most people, turning 18 wasn't a happy occasion for him to look forward to. As he neared his 18th birthday, he was not fantasizing about all the freedom he would soon have. Instead, he was trying to figure out where he would live. Every year more than 23,000 children will age out of the foster care system (Gaille). This can be incredibly straining as most children who age out are still in high school and don't have time for a full–time job, and typically, they have not built up a credit score. Without any source of income or a credit score, it can be nearly impossible for these children to find an apartment or other housing. Some take up couch– hopping, spending nights on various friends' couches for a few months, but, overall, 1/3 of foster children who age out spend their first night on the streets, and 1 in 5 are homeless within two years of aging out (Stout). Aging out also comes with issues regarding education. Emancipated adolescents are three times more likely to never receive a high school diploma or GED, with only 57% graduating high school by 19. Moreover, 1 in 4 emancipated young adults will be incarcerated within two years, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 19. Austin Fisher The Three Sides To My Coming Out Analysis Coming Out Assignment Published by the Huffington Post, 20 year old Austin Fisher voices his process of coming out in his article entitled "The 3 Sides to my Coming Out Story". I choose to analyze and reflect on this text for I believe it displays various situations and perceptions in response to one coming out. The author starts by explaining how he came to terms with himself. When Fisher was younger he idolized his brother's bravery for announcing his homosexuality to the world. This planted a seed in Fisher's mind that would not seem to stop growing. Though deep down he knew he was gay, he was not ready to admit it to himself or the outside world. Instead, Fisher suppressed his "gay side" and reinvented himself. He got a girlfriend and views "coming out" as overrated, for Fisher views it as unfair and unjust that because of his inherently "wrong" sexualtity he has to go through an emotional process of explaining who he is attracted to the people he loves. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... His parents were less than accepting, for they viewed it as a choice that they should have been consulted on. Though, eventually they did research on the matter and came to terms with their son's sexuality. Fisher's peers seemed to have no opinion on the matter. Although he never publicly announced his sexuality to his class, he told some friends and word got around and he was not treated differently. While reading this I could not help but wonder if this was because he was in a relationship with a girl, for hetrosexual relationships are viewed as society's "norm". Would his peers have been less receptive of his sexual preferences if he was in a same gender ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Wow thought Jenna, I wondered If I would ever hear from you again. Jenna and Nikki had met at university over 10 years ago and as friends had almost been inseparable. It was a friendship that on one occasion it nearly became something more. The silence between the two had been almost deafening before routine and the normal order of the day took over. She was born to wealthy parents and seemingly had every opportunity in the world laid out in front of her, whereas Jenna had very little. She had left college and worked hard to build up some cash to take on her first bar. This had been a success and soon she bought another. Within 8 years, her bars and restaurants were running smoothly and were highly regarded in the city. She had achieved this with her own hard work and with little or no help from anyone. Nikki unsurprisingly also had done well for herself and settled down with Dan a big, handsome guy that Jenna had noticed from her days on campus. She had seen him drinking in one of her bars once and had a flirty chat with him. If she was being honest with herself this was the kind of guy that she would like to settle down with. He was successful, smart and with a certain look in his eye that led her to think there was more to him than people would imagine. Jenna had not settled down, far from it. She had a few arrangements in place with men and woman to ensure nice and unexciting would never be something that she would have to endure. • 23. Persuasive Essay On Aging Out According to the National Foster Youth institute, "More than 23,000 children age out of the US foster care system every year."() Aging out is the process of a teens transitioning from the legal control of the foster care system, to independent living. Youth aging out of foster care should be given an extension on foster care services after the age of 18, because it provides a stable home for teens, it increases the amount of college graduates and it provides healthcare for those in need. • 25. Literature Review Of The Out Of Body Experience The out of body experience is a phenomenon experienced by a significant percentage of the population. During this experience, an individual perceives his or her environment from a point of view that is separate from his or her physical body. In some cases, individuals have reported looking down upon their own bodies, although Irwin (2000) suggested that the details of the experience may be determined by the individual's immediate needs. For instance, in a life threatening situation, one may perceive a paradisal environment (commonly noted in near death experiences). Typically, psychological processes such as memory, thought, and perception are unified and a separation of these processes is known as dissociation. Because the out of ... These questionnaires were comprised of three surveys. The first brief set of questions pertained to demographic information and the experience and frequency of out of body experiences. The second survey was the Dissociative Experiences Scale (DES), which was used to generate scores regarding both pathological dissociation and nonpathological dissociation (or psychological absorption). Finally, the Somatoform Dissociation Questionnaire (SDQ–20) was used to measure the participant's proneness to somatoform dissociation. Within the questionnaires, 44 of the 113 participants reported having had an out of body experience. To determine the relationship between dissociation and the out of body experience, the explored variables were examined in a logistic regression analyses. This showed the the SDQ–20 was the only independent variable that was able to separate the participants who had acknowledged out of body experiences from those who did not. Additionally, the SDQ–20 was also the only variable that significantly contributed to the prediction of the frequency of out of body experiences. This, not only suggested that the out of body experience was related to dissociative phenomena, but also indicated a relationship between somatoform dissociation, specifically, and out of body experiences. • 27. Personal Narrative: Coming Out Coming out. For the most part when people think coming out, they think of an all at once announcement telling the whole world that you're gay, then, having a lot of long emotional talks with your family. They think of it as everything changing. For the most part, that's from the eyes of people who will never really have to come out as anything. As for myself, coming out was none of those things and nothing seemed to have really changed at all. For me it was something that took a lot of learning, but in the end it was well worth it. I was raised in a heteronormative environment, where everyone always assumed I would be straight, marry a man and have kids and that was the only way my life could be. I knew gay people existed of course, but I ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... That is, until I walked into second period, geography and again in third period french, where I saw her. Little did I know she would eventually be my best friend, and we would laugh about it together. A few months later a friend came out to our group as bisexual, then later pansexual and she started attending the school's weekly GSA meetings. That little coming out started a spark in my mind, and everything started to make a lot of sense. Maybe there was more to life than just straight or gay, more ways a person could be. Over the course of grade 9, I was still very brainwashed to automatically assume that everybody was straight until proven otherwise. So crushes on girls really didn't last longer than a week or two. I didn't have a chance and I knew it, so I'd lose interest really quickly. I kept pushing it down, pretending it wasn't happening, but at least I was starting to understand what I was feeling. • 31. Film Analysis Of Blow Out And The 1976 Film Carrie The 1981 film Blow Out and the 1976 film Carrie are just two of over thirty films directed by Brian De Palma. Although they span an array of genres and topics, De Palma's films are recognizable by his distinct director's touch. De Palma's films adhere to Andrew Sarris's concept the auteur theory, which posits that each film contains the director's distinguishable artistic personality. This artistic nature of both the film and director is evident in the unique and consistent visual style and thematic elements present in each of the films. Blow Out and Carrie are executed with control and a special attention to detail, so that each shot and scene is carefully constructed and inserted intentionally to drive the plot forward. De Palma's films contain an expert use of visual grammar, in which the stories are told as much with camera moves and editing as dialogue. Like many of his films, Blow Out and Carrie feature certain trademark elements of De Palma's work: the recurring theme of the male gaze, and the use of cinematic devices including a split diopter lens, slow motion, and 360 degree pan. De Palma's use of these recurring cinematic tropes enable him to simultaneously place his unique director's touch on these films as he crafts suspense filled visual masterpieces. It is not a good memory, one you will probably not tell your mother about until you are well in your forties? I had one of those during my second week of college. My group of friends that experienced this night with me included my roommate Dionia, Reggie, Reginald, and Fredrek. I met Reggie through Dionia, they are both from Orangeburg, SC and attended the same high school. Reginald is Reggie's roommate which is how I met Reginald, and Fredrek is Reginald's friend. Fredrek, Reginald and I all happen to be from the same town so we all clicked instantly. The second week of school we were all ready to go out and had some fun, that night we decided to meet up in my dorm so we could go out together. Until that night on Franklin Boulevard I had never felt so scared and helpless in my life. I was never a person to go out and party in my hometown, but being 18 and in college I decided I would branch out a little but not to where I would be uncomfortable. Coming to Greensboro I knew there were parts of the city that were prone to violence, being new to the city I did not know where those areas were just yet. We decided earlier in the week that we were going to go out that Saturday, Fredrek started looking on Snapchat for addresses or any flyers for parties that we could go to. • 35. Fiscal Policy, Crowding out, Supply-side, Economics Economics Assignment #2 Question I. Fiscal Policy and the Crowding Out Effect. (a) What is the essence of the accounting identity (the so called saving investment identity) that the two distinguished professors refer to? Saving investment identity is a concept in National Income accounting that states that the amount saved (S) in an economy is equal to the amount invested (I). It is an equilibrium expressed in terms of supply (S), and demand (I), for lending (loan–able funds). Sp (Private Saving) + Sg or (T–G) (Government Saving or Budget Balance) = I. The authors are assuming full employment, where S=I. The saving "identity" where S=I holds true by ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Again, they are assuming the economy is at full employment or full potential when in fact, we are below full employment. Therefore the savings investment identity does not prove anything about the effectiveness of fiscal policy. Fiscal policy is a completely valid and effective method to expand the economy and move towards full employment. Fiscal policy can raise GDP, create jobs, increase income, etc... which is very beneficial. How can these professors be so ignorant of the full picture? They are not taking all the proper details into account it's very surprising. Again, we are in a recession, this allows GDP to rise. An increase in G, increases GDP, which increases S. Therefore the actual degree at which interest rates rise and investments fall is not in line with what the professors think. They're off. They have not accounted for the rise in GDP and have mistakenly assumed full employment and 100% crowding out effect when this is clearly not the case in a recession. Aging Out Movie Analysis In the documentary "Aging Out" directed by Roger Weisber, it is noticeable how these three teenagers (Risa, David, and Danielle) were trying to get out of the Foster Care System and become independent adults. However, each one of them struggled with their task of becoming an independent person. I will provide you with one of the sociological paradigms that I believe is strong within the documentary. Structural– Functionalism Theory, which attempts to focus on the relationship between social institutions that are made up by society. The documentary gives perfect examples of Functionalism because we can notice that those teenagers have all received criticisms from all adults who are in their lives. Criticism is a big contributor to social change (which they experienced) because people use repetitive behavior since they only do what they have applied it, to overcome problems in the foster system, all they have accumulated from criticisms and see no way to better themselves. Nonetheless, one big contributor to the way these teenagers have felt with trying to enter into society is a sociological institute, which makes them meet social needs, for example the government, it tries maintain stability and contribute to the well being, and be a society as an integrated whole. The flashback is the backbone of the movie because it shows the audience how the whole situation started and ended. The Importance of Being Accepted When coming out as a gay individual, there is a desire to be loved and accepted for who they are by the family. When parents reject their child's sexual orientation it often comes to kicking the child out of their home out of shame for their sexuality. In recent statistics, 'Studies indicate that between 25% and 50% of homeless youth are LGBT and on the streets because of their sexual orientation or gender identity' (Pflagnyc, Statistics You Should Know About Gay and Transgender Students). LGBT youth's also have an increased chance of living in an abusive household with older parents due to a contrast of two different generations. The young generation of today is more susceptible to accepting LGBT members because it is a more liberal time period. However, the older generations are most likely to shun them due to biblical or principals that they grew up with. The more accepting parents are of things they cannot change, the happier the child often is after coming out to them. Homelessness has become an issue in recent years as more teens are starting to come out to their parents, who have lived in the previous generation. Religion has played a key part in the rejection of LGBT youth's due to its blunt statements like, "Thou shalt not lie with mankind, as with womankind: it is abomination" (Bible 98). • 51. Out Stealing Horses Analysis In the novel, Out Stealing Horses by Per Petterson, a 67 year–old man named Trond who lives in solitude in Norway reflects back on the summer of 1948 where several significant events changed his life. It follows his progression of growing up and starting to understand more about the people and surroundings that revolve around his life and how they've shaped him into becoming a mature and wise man. Eventually, he realizes the truth that growing up is inevitable and accepts the fact that things will never be the same again. In Out Stealing Horses, Petterson uses the motif and imagery of water to show how Trond's familiarity and interactions with the river reflects his gradual process of maturing from a innocent boy into a stronger man. As a young boy, Trond's interactions with water illustrates his innocence, showing his youthful behavior and preservation of innocence. Growing up, water has played a huge role in Trond's life; He would often go out, "fishing for trout in the river" (15) or "riding logs down the river" (15). These activities that Trond engages in reflects Trond's close bond with the river and how it brought out his adventurous and youthful behavior. The dynamic environment of the river and the never–ending flow of water is symbolic of Trond's constant energetic youth. As a kid, Trond was always outside admiring the beauty of nature or out stealing horses, and the river provided him the opportunity to do that. In order to go out stealing horses, Trond had to "row across the river"(32), in which the river acted as the path or gateway that led Trond to his next adventure. In addition, the river also represents Trond's reluctance to change or grow out of his childhood. Trond recalls, "I could immerse myself in water up to my chin and remain the person I was"(101). This highlights the idea that the river is a comfort zone in which Trond is able to submerge himself in and stay youthful. Trond doesn't want to grow out of his childhood and the river protects his innocence. Even with the "current pounding away and pulling at his body,"(101) Trond felt untouched and remained the same person. This shows how the river maintains Trond's growth into a man and it serves to show that Trond is the "anchor of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Yes, I feel that Henry should come out of the closet. Ethical Principle 1 (Rights): Sexual orientation is inherent in every human being. It is something beyond our control and it wasn't Henry's choice to be homosexual. It is his basic human right to decide if he wants to 'come out'. If he does, he should not be judged as he definitely has reasons for doing so. He is probably tired of 'hiding' himself and what he truly is. Homosexuals are human as well. In the winter of 1934, Billie Jo is 13 and through journal entries, we learn of her mother, father and a few others from a small farming community in the panhandle of Oklahoma. • 61. Impact Of Opt Out Systems IMPACT OF OPT OUT SYSTEMS The Taskforce consider opting out information to be more sensitive in nature than information provided by opting in Organ Donation Register ( Organ Donation Taskforce , 20). The current is based on an open access website with an electronic register that is available to all hospital staff. In an opt–out system, not registering in this register may mean that someone's organs may be taken when they have had a serious objection to this. Theoretically, it is possible for someone to re–enter someone's name on the register without them knowing, although there is no evidence to suggest that this will happen on a wide scale. This is why some may argue that an opt–out system would require far greater security due to the sensitive nature of the information. This information could be accommodated on the Personal Demographics Service ( Organ Donation Taskforce , 2008) but entering all this data would be a drain on the NHS resources especially at the start of an opt–out system which would involve entering the data of several million people. People may also choose to be increasingly specific about which organs or tissues they choose to donate as medicine advances so the framework required for would be rather complex. This would also take a large toll on the funds provided to the NHS with the costs of for the setup of IT and communications approximating to £45 million. An additional £5 million per year is needed to refresh public messages and an estimated £10 ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Lgbtq Coming Out Model Coming–out LGBTQ is a highly individual and personal process, where one concedes and affirms their sexual orientation or gender identity, and deciding if, who and when to tell (1). Studies show that the nature of the process is 'ongoing, dynamic and social' because of the diversity and complexity of individual humanity. It is particular to each person's unique circumstances. Sometimes the process is within their control, other times it is far more complex. The LGBTQ stops fighting and comes to accept who they are, making peace with their sexual orientation or gender identity. Once the process of internal acceptance has occurred, the LGBTQ may decide to come out to others. Disclosing to others is a personal and individual process with respective timelines. Some LGBTQ's may feel that it is a necessity to disclose while another's experience might be more complex involving vulnerability to fear and concern for their safety. During this time the LGBTQ generally weighs the advantages, disadvantages and risks, recognizing what they have to lose or gain. Acceptance by others at this point is crucial to developing a positive self–esteem and self–concept. Acceptance by others usually paves the way to tell more people as the LGBTQ finds acceptance for who they are. Rejection will validate the negative feeling that the LGBTQ started out with, further injuring their self–esteem and causing them to return to internalizing their identity as seen in the pre–coming out phase (2). Because acceptance is necessary to the development of a healthy self–concept, it is important for the LGBTQ to cautiously choose whom they will disclose their identity to. The more significant the relationship the greater the impact disclosure will have on the LGBTQ's self–esteem. Studies show that support from family and friends is significant to healthy identity development (3). This process of revealing sexual identity to important relationships can take a long time. Just as it took a while for the LGBTQ to assimilate and process during the pre–coming out phase, family and friends take time to accept the new information ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 71. Is The Theme Of Power In The Film Out Of Sight By Steven... In the film Out of Sight (Steven Soderbergh, 1998) elements of mise en scene, lighting, editing and characters reveal the themes of identity, love and power. The theme of power directly relates to the economic boom in the United States in the 1990s and the population's strive for success. These themes are brought out through the repetitive use of the color red in the film and are also used to relate back to the title. In relation to other American action films released in 1998, Out of Sight is a very fast faced movie much like the rest of them. The fast paced editing style that Soderbergh utilized in the film relates very much to the race to power that was so prevalent in the 1990s. When the economy started to boom, the people of the country ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The first shot of this sequence is of Foley sitting in a chair at a desk with a red colored wall behind him. Right away the color red is introduced on the wall as well as on the desk in pens, the top of a yogurt, a potted plant and the wrapper of a power bar. After the man who was at the desk in front of Foley leaves the room, Foley's eyes gaze upon the contents of the desk. The camera pans over the red objects on the desk and then stops to rest upon the wrapper of the power bar. Half eaten and half unwrapped, only the red words "power" are exposed. This is an exceptional shot because it reveals the color red and reveals the word "power", which illustrates the fact that the men in Ripley Enterprise have power and Foley does not. In the next shot, the man at the desk enters the room once again holding a suit and Foley turns away from looking at the power bar to blankly staring at the dull colored suit. This suit represents what Foley could become; a regular guy with a regular job of being a security guard but for him this isn't going to cut it. Foley is obsessed with the idea of being higher class than he ever will be and this is reflected by the way he stared at the "power" on the wrapper; because power is something he desperately wants. Aging Out of the Foster Care System According to the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, every year close to 25,000 youth age out of the foster care system and are faced with cold hard realities of adulthood. This does not include the youth who leave the system, which is estimated to be another 30,000. Most adolescents anticipate their eighteenth birthday, as it brings on a new found sense of independence and most importantly a time of celebration. However when foster children reach eighteen, they begin facing the challenges of transitioning to adulthood. These children disproportionately join the ranks of the homeless, incarcerated, and unemployed. These youth are unprepared for the independent life they are forced to take on. The average age that young adults who have never experienced foster care leave their family home for good is 24, and 40% return home again at least once afterwards (Margolin, 2008). With these facts being stated, we yet expect youth who has dealt with rejection after rejection to leave "home" of the state custody permanently and fin for themselves. These youth sometimes have fewer than $250 in cash, only one–third have drivers licenses, and fewer than one– quarter have the basic tools to set up a household, let alone the skills to know what to do with the tools (Krinsky, 2010). Youth exit care with no more than a garbage bag of their belongings, finding themselves alone at the age of eighteen, with little reason to celebrate what is supposed to be an exciting milestone ...
