How many time has someone started a popular weight loss diet and it either didn't work, or the results didn't last long before the weight loss came
right back? In America now, there are over 30 states that have 25% or more of the adults and children that are overweight or obese (Cleveland State
University, 2013, p. 217). Since the beginning of this obesity epidemic, the risk of cardiovascular and metabolic diseases have increased over the
years (Cordain, 2011, pp. 5–7). This results in new fad diets that are introduced to the media every year and soon after, everyone is trying it out to lose
those pounds fast. These fad diets don't usually entail lifestyle changes, rather they suggest a quick fix to a person's weight loss problem. There are
weight loss supplements and extreme diets that cut out one or more food groups entirely. This can make it difficult for most people to stick with.
One of these diets suggests that if we pick up the eating lifestyle of our Paleolithic ancestors, we could become as healthy and fit as they were
millions of years ago (Cordain, 2011, p. 6). This Paleo diet was first thought of by Dr. S. Boyd Eaton and Melvin Konner in the mid 1980's when they
did primary research into what our ancestors ate and what affects this diet would have on current Homo sapiens (Frassetto, Schloetter, Mietus–Synder,

Despite previous problems that were stated before, the overall outcome was surprising and reassuring. While the cost of supplies for the participants,
items such as food containers or workout clothes, may have been warranted, it needs to be noted that there was still an overall cost for participating in
the program. Beyond, the costs of buying meal prepping items, the participants seemed extremely pleased with the progress they made on losing
weight, which was shown on their surveys.
Additionally, out of the five participants in the study the average weight loss was 3.94 pounds over a period of 5 weeks. Going further into the data
taken, no participant ended up gaining weight during the program. Also, an average of 2.07 inches was lost in waist circumference. While this
category did have gains it was evened out by those who lost more than the average. Finally, in the area of the arm and leg measurements there were not
changes. While this may be discerning for the project outcomes, if waist circumference and weight loss were present, it may hint that other factors

Population and Recruitment The sample population for this study was current and former collegiate wrestlers in the state of Washington with at least
two years of experience in wrestling. Further, the participants were current of former students from either Highline College or Bellevue College. The

weight loss. Participants were recruited and contacted by the principal investigator through a recruitment email (Appendix A). In addition, the coaches

This results in new fad diets that are introduced to the media every year and soon after, everyone is trying it out to lose those pounds fast. These fad diets don't usually entail lifestyle changes, rather they suggest a quick fix to a person's weight loss problem. There are weight loss supplements and extreme diets that cut out one or more food groups entirely. This can make it difficult for most people to stick with. One of these diets suggests that if we pick up the eating lifestyle of our Paleolithic ancestors, we could become as healthy and fit as they were millions of years ago (Cordain, 2011, p. 6).
